"I don't think we're going to get any sleep tonight. I'm sure Davis and the others won't."

Matt shivered and nodded. He glanced at Tai, meeting with his gaze. Neither felt safe, both felt the urge to help the younger Digidestined fight off the Digimon Emperor, both felt the urge to help themselves, even each other.

Izzy interrupted their thoughts.

"They made it to the base for sure. Cody just sent me a message saying they might crash for the night."

"They can't do that!" exclaimed Tai. "They need to fight."

Izzy shrugged. "Well tell Davis that." He went back to typing.

Tai sighed and stood up, beginning to pace back and forth. "If they're going to rest, can they at least not do it inside the fortress?"

He rambled on until Matt silenced him.

"Cut it out you two," Izzy warned, still typing. "We need to stay strong."

"Well don't get all whiny about it," Matt muttered, standing up. "Besides, I say we ought to go there and do things our way."

"You know we can't," Tai said quietly. "They have this battle. It isn't ours."

"But at least we'd be able to help a bit. I'm really..." Matt silenced himself, turning the other way.

"Don't worry, TK will be fine," Tai reassured, sending a worried look to his friend.

Matt didn't say anything and instead pointed to the screen on Izzy's computer. He couldn't bring himself to. If he said something, he might start crying and he just couldn't let himself do that. Oh, he wouldn't just be crying over his brother's safety. There would also be the little matter of wanting Tai. It's been over a year since he realized his feelings for Tai, only Tai didn't know about those feelings.

TK ran this way and that, trying to dodge the attacks being sent to himself and Kari, who was holding his hand.

"TK, we have to get out of here!"

"I know, but Davis is too stubborn."

Davis was shouting unruly things at the Digimon Emperor, having Flamedramon protect him as shots were fired.

"The Bakemon and Flymon aren't going to back away," TK continued, tugging on Kari's hand. "Davis is going to get hurt."

"Don't worry, he can take care of himself."

"Yeah, but in the process we'll get hurt too!"

The pair made their ways into the middle of the battle scene where Davis was still yelling at the Digimon Emperor.

"Stop hurting innocent Digimon," he was yelling, while having Flamedramon move him out of the way of stinging needles sent out by the Flymon.

"Davis, give it up!" Yolei screeched, holding Cody back a little ways away.

Davis ignored his friend, still yelling. One shot from Kimeramon sent Flamedramon back to his rookie form, back along with the other digimon.

The fortress began to shake, and TK could clearly hear the Digimon Emperor curse and begin to run. He looked up to find Davis chasing after him. He then saw his digimon.

"Patamon!" TK yelled, leaving Kari's side. He ran to where Veemon and Patamon lay, near a few stacked up boxes. He picked up his little digimon, making sure it was all right. Then he took Veemon.

"TK, get away from there!" Cody yelled.

TK looked back to where Kari was. She and Davis were both screaming inaudible words at him. So were Yolei and Cody. He pushed the digimon forward, and suddenly, everything seemed to become black as a great force was upon him.

"We haven't gotten an e-mail from them in a while," Tai stated.

"If they're in battle, how are they supposed to e-mail us?" Izzy questioned, shaking his head.

Matt just watched the two talk it out; Izzy used logic to calm Tai down, as usual. He sighed and closed his eyes. This was going to be a long night...

**~**

Kari was still screaming, even Davis was when she called him back from chasing Ken.

"TK, get away from there!" she yelled. "Davis, do something!"

Davis began running towards the scene. Their plan was malfunctioning: their digimon all de-digivolved, the fortress was now going down (even though that was good, they were all still trapped inside), and now TK was underneath a pile of boxes, just so he could save both his own and Davis' digimon.

"Oh TK, what have you got yourself into this time?" he muttered, while still running.

Yolei and Cody were already at the scene, both frantically digging through the broken and whole boxes.

"What's inside the boxes?" he heard Kari ask from behind.

"What does it matter?" he asked, turning to look at her.

"Well... he could be.... he could be," she struggled to find the words.

It occurred to Davis that there could have been something heavy in them. "Start digging," he said frantically, picking through pieces of wood and crate.

"The place is starting to go down," Yolei stated. "The roof could gave in!"

"What are we supposed to do? Leave TK behind?" Cody asked coldly, comforting Patamon and trying to dig as well.

"Just keep digging," Davis said, "he can't be too deep... can he?"

Kari didn't say anything from beside him as she lifted pieces and threw them behind her.

"Can't you guys Digivolve?" Yolei asked.

She got a 'no' from each digimon.

In a low voice, Kari suddenly said to Davis, "We aren't going to find him."

"What?"

"He's too deep. If we keep looking, we'll all die."

"Fine, then leave!" Davis yelled.

Yolei and Cody both looked at him questioningly.

"I'm sorry Kari, but why don't you go find help? I'll keep looking for TK. You, Cody and Yolei go get help! Send an e-mail to the others and get help -- any kind of help."

"I won't leave you," she said firmly, "I'll--"

"Just go," he said softly, looking up into the brunette's eyes. "Kari, I'll keep looking for TK you go get help from Tai, Matt and Izzy. Find their digimon. Just go before you can't get out."

"What about you?" Yolei asked.

"I'll be fine," he said firmly. "Now go!"

Kari nodded and took Gatomon in her arms. She beckoned Cody and Yolei to follow her, and in a matter of minutes, they were no where in sight.

Davis went back to digging, praying he would find TK soon. Both their lives counted on it.

"Are you boys going to spend your entire time in front of that laptop?"

"Yes," Izzy answered automatically. He looked up. "We just need to finish something."

"Finish what?" asked Tai, after Mr. Ishida went inside the tent to sleep.

"I'm locating the exact position the base is now."

"Oh." Tai glanced at Matt, frowning. "What's with you?"

"Nothing," the blonde replied. "Just thinking'"

"About TK?"

"No, no really."

"Oh." Puzzled, Tai sat beside him. "You know, I wish we could do the same. You know, go fight again. It was the best time of my life. Being eleven, in another world with no parents there -- I loved it."

"Yeah. I did too, I guess."

"You guess?"

"I wasn't exactly the nicest person to you, you know," Matt pointed out.

Tai shrugged. "We were just rivals, like TK and Davis are. Besides, that was still the best time of my life. Especially when we were fighting Piedmon and you came back to the group. I was getting tired of beating on Izzy, it just wasn't as much fun as beating on you."

"Oh thanks," Izzy called, looking back. "It's nice to know I was the replacement punching bag for Matt."

"Anytime."

Kari ran up the stairs and down the stairs. This place was like a roller coaster of stairs. Up one set, down another. It wasn't exactly easy to send Tai a message this way.

Suddenly, she bumped into something and would have fell down the stairs if it wasn't for Yolei catching her; though her D-Terminal did fall down.

"My D-Terminal," she cursed, standing up. She glared at the Digimon Emperor.

He smirked and walked towards them. "You aren't going to get out this way. It's a dead end."

"Then how do you get out?" Cody asked.

"You actually think I'd tell you lot that?"

"Cody, Yolei, run back the way we came. Send Tai a message and--"

She was cut off when Yolei began screaming. She turned around to find a Bakemon holding both Yolei and Cody. Ken pushed past Kari and took the D-Terminals from both Yolei and Cody.

"Problem solved," he said, smirking still.

"Ken-"

"Don't call me Ken!" he roared, slapping her.

Kari cried out and fell back, catching the railing so she didn't fall down the stairs.

"Kari!" exclaimed Yolei. "You don't dare touch her! Leave her alone!"

"Fine. I will. Bakemon, take these three out of the base and into my new one."

Cody gulped. "Your new one?"

Ken ignored that remark, looking around. "Now where is goggle-head and blondie?"

None of the three answered, each looking away defiantly.

"Well I'll just have to go looking, now won't I?"

**~**

Scratches and bruises covered Davis' arms, legs and face, though he didn't take notice. There were so many boxes; some filled with dark rings, some filled with food and others full of clothes.

"Davis, take a break..." Veemon began, his sentence trailing.

Davis ignored him and kept working at it. Why did there have to be so many boxes? All he wanted to do was quit looking and fall asleep. He was ever so tired, so very tired.

He swiped at the tears that were forming in his eyes and kept on digging through the rubble. Was there any way to find him sooner?

He turned to Veemon, asking: "Can you Digivolve yet?"

Veemon shook his head sadly, along with Patamon.

He sighed and turned back, lifting a side of a box away. A very small hand stuck out, limp.

"TK!" he cried out. he worked faster and harder, that is, until a cruel laugh caused him to turn around.

"Are you too stupid to follow your friends to sanctuary? Oh wait, they were stupid enough to fall into my trap."

"What did you do with my friends?!"

Another cruel laugh. "Oh, they're out of the base all right," he paused, a smile twisting his lips, "they're at my new one."

"You- you're new one?" he stuttered out, his mouth gaping.

He pointed at Davis "Bakemon, seize him and take him to my new base."

"No!" Davis struggled, trying to fight off the Bakemon. "Veemon!"

Only Veemon and Patamon were already held, being taken out of the room. Davis continued to struggle, remembering his friend.

"TK..." he whispered, still struggling.

At that moment, the walls surrounding them began to crumble.

"Let's go," the Digimon Emperor said abruptly, walking towards the door.

"TK!" Davis shrieked, "TK! Let me go! Let me go!"

Another twisted smile appeared on the Kaizer's lips as he turned around. He looked towards the boxes, noticing TK's limp hand.

"That saves me a whole lot of trouble for looking for him." Instead of ordering a Bakemon to seize him as well, the Emperor said to leave him.

"You can't do this!" Davis screamed, "He'll die! TK!"

**~**

Matt wrapped his arms around himself, wondering if his lips were turning blue. He suddenly felt cold, very cold.

"We haven't heard from them in a while," he mumbled, scooting closer to both Tai and the fire.

Tai nodded and looked towards the tent, where Izzy was inside looking for something in his bag.

"Maybe we should have helped. Maybe--"

Tai hushed him and went back to staring at the fire. "It's too late for maybes. We need to look forward."

"It's easy enough to get into the Digital World--"

"Have you forgotten that we need one of them to open the gate for us?" Tai snapped, glaring at Matt.

Matt was taken aback and he shut his mouth, looking back into the fire.

Tai sighed. "I'm sorry. I'm frustrated too."

Matt nodded, still refusing to look at Tai. Suddenly, Tai cupped his cheek and began leaning forward.

"Hey guys!" Izzy called "Tentomon just informed me that the base is going down."

Tai stopped and gave Matt a weak smile before he got up. Matt, on the other hand, sat dumbstruck, unbelieving that he had almost kissed Tai.

"That must mean they won, right?" asked Tai. "We should get an e-mail from them soon."

"I guess," said Izzy.

Matt stood up and walked to where the pair stood. "I hope they aren't inside."

"Nah, Davis will lead them out. I'm sure of it."

**~**

Yolei's eyes opened and she looked at her surroundings. To her left Cody hung limp on chains and to her right, Kari was kicking the wall screaming.

"Let us out!" She began to sob. "Just let us out..."

"Kari?" asked Yolei.

Kari looked at Yolei with sad eyes, forcing herself to stop crying. "Davis and TK are still in there.... I know it! The base could have already exploded. Who knows?"

Yolei wish she could comfort her friend, but she wanted comfort too. She shivered and sighed. Will this nightmare just end?

"If only we had our D-Terminals," Kari was saying, "then I could e-mail Tai and he would come help us."

"They wouldn't be able to get into the Digital World," Yolei pointed out.

Kari's mouth widened. "Oh yeah... Davis and TK are going to die. I just know it!" she screamed in frustration.

**~**

Davis had stopped screaming and kicking. There was no point. They had already left the base and from afar he could see the base on the ground with small fires in some areas.

"It's pitiful that you actually think you could stop me."

Davis didn't reply and kept staring in the distance at the base, thinking how he failed to bring TK out. He was going to die and it was all his fault. He sighed, fighting back tears that threatened to fall.

"You were so predictable. Of course you were going to try and destroy my base. I didn't think it would be so easy to defeat you, though."

Davis felt sick. They lost. Their team had lost. TK was probably dead, and Yolei, Kari and Cody were at this new base. Looking up, he saw the new base. It had to be at least twice as large as the last.

"Welcome to your new home, Davis."
