From now on I'll use the name "Alice" when Alice is in her human form, "LadyDevimon" when she's an Ultimate, and "Lilithmon" when she's a Mega. Oh, and to avoid confusion, the Phoenix Spirits have nothing to do with the spirits from season 4.

Chapter 6

The Council

<Several hours later, in the Council's main meeting room>

The room Alice was in at the moment was actually a natural cave modified a little to make it as comfortable as possible for both humans and digimon to use. The cave's walls were painted white and there were electrical lamps of some sort hanging from the ceiling. In the middle of the room was a large round table with some kind of holographic display at the center. Around the table were some kind of wooden seats looking like they were made for royalty, not normal people. There were over twenty people in the room, Alice excluded, most of them men, but also some women. They were all dressed in the same manner as Kynai. She had been told they are all high rank members of the Council. Alice had not remembered any of their names except for the leader of the group. He was called Jennai. She had noticed also that there are several digi gnomes in the room. They were floating around at random above anything and anyone. Since no one seemed to care about their presence, she ignored them as well. Now she was waiting for everyone to sit down. Then she would finally get some answers.

Alice didn't have to wait long. Everyone settled down quickly and Jennai began speaking.

"I'm sure you have a lot of questions, Alice. But first let us tell you a few things. Tell me, do you know this sign?" A hologram appeared in the air above the center of the table. It consisted from four red equilateral triangles. All four were the same size. The central one was pointing down and was in a circle. Each of the other three had one of their apexes touch one of the apexes of the central triangle. With a little fantasy you could say they form a "Y". The girl recognized the sign.

"This is the sign of the Hazard. So?"

"Beware of digimon with this sign on their body. Such digimon are Hazard digimon. They can use the power of the Hazard to boost their own power. The higher the digivolution level the greater the boost. Also when greatly weakened if they refuse to give up fighting and continue to struggle, they can digivolve to Megidramon. Or BlackMegidramon. We believe good digimon turn into Megidramon, while evil ones become BlackMegidramon. As for neutral ones, we have no idea. In fact, we're not even sure we're right about what I just said. The Hazard is an enigma for us. Either way, when a digimon turns into Megidramon for the first time, he has hardly any control over his power. This can be extremely dangerous. Takato's Guilmon is the best prove for this. Both he and Takato refused to give up in the fight against Beelzemon. The power of the Hazard was activated, turning WarGrowlmon into Megidramon. However Takato's partner had no control over his new power at all, which is why he could not attack, or Beelzemon would've been history. It is impossible for us to say if it matters that Calumon used his digivolving power to help WarGrowlmon, but in any case the result was that Megidramon nearly destroyed the place they were at and the whole South sector was in danger of destruction. Not just the digital, but also the real world. But do not think this power can be used only for destruction. It can be used for protection, as proved by Guilmon, who used it to turn partially into Megidramon and deflect Beelzemon's attack with his tale. How did he do it when he was unconscious at the time is unknown. This is actually the only time we know of that the Hazard was used for protection. This was the first and so far the only time Guilmon has used the power of the Hazard." Jennai paused to take a breath and decide how exactly to continue. "Takato's partner was born a Hazard digimon. Normal Guilmon are not born with this power. In the South sector Takato's digimon is unique, but not here, in our world, any digimon can be born with the power of the Hazard. We don't know what the reason is. A digimon born with this power cannot lose it no matter what. However there is a way for a non-Hazard digimon to become one. Such digimon can turn back to normal. We don't know how can a normal digimon gain the power of the Hazard, or how can this power be lost. But we do know it is possible. There is one digimon that we know of who has done it."

Jennai stopped again and the hologram of the Hazard sign disappeared.

**So that's what Rosemon meant with "Obviously no one explained the meaning of the Hazard sign to you." That's why she, WarGreymon and Puppetmon turned into Megidramon.**

"Long ago there was only one digital and one real world. There were other worlds as well: the World of Darkness, the world of wishes where MaloMyotismon came back and so on. Then one day a digimon came from the World of Darkness. She was incredibly powerful and had one servant: NeoDevimon. She had a human form, in which her name was Dellia, and a Crest. She came in the digital world and disappeared for a few days. When she came back, she had become a Hazard digimon. She tried to conquer all worlds. The five Sovereigns tried to stop her, but she was more powerful than any other living digimon. They realized they needed help and so the first DigiDestined were chosen. Each had a Crest and a partner that could go to Mega. Each of the chosen digimon had a different type of Zeon. Unfortunately Dellia was highly resistant to the effects of the Zeons, so they were of little help against her. The Sovereigns made five special crystal balls called "Force spheres". These spheres could give a digimon a shield similar to the barrier of a Sovereign, only weaker, and could increase a digimon's power. They were given to the five strongest DigiDestined. Then the Sovereigns together with the DigiDestined and a large number of powerful Mega digimon went to the World of Darkness in an attempt to stop Dellia. Before they could reach the island on which she lived she did something. When they reached her, she was no longer a Hazard digimon. This fact however was ignored. But she still had her Crest, the Crest of Evil, as well as her servant. She met the Sovereigns and the DigiDestined and fought with them with all her power. In the end she lost, but most of those who challenged her did not live to see the end of the battle. When she began to delete, she laughed and said that this was all part of her plan. She said she had achieved what she wanted and swore that one day she would return to finish what she has started. Then Dellia died. What happened to her Crest is unknown. The Sovereigns had no time to look for it. While they had been traveling to the isle where the battle would take place, an earthquake had begun. It had been ignored at first, but now it was much stronger. This earthquake later turned out to be what we now call the "World Break". We suspect that Dellia has used all the power of the Hazard she had to cause the World Break. We can only guess what did she do, but as a result both the real and the digital world were split into five pieces that we call sectors. Each was ruled by one of the Sovereigns. Various cataclysms were unleashed upon each world. The results were different as well. There were even time cataclysms. After a while it all ended. The South sector was in the worst condition, but the rest weren't much better. The sectors were isolated from each other for a short period of time, then communications began to restore slowly between all except the central one. Our sector remained isolated for the longest time, and this fact combined with the cataclysms I mentioned earlier led to a wrong conclusion. The remaining Sovereigns decided that there are only four sectors. We were considered dead and forgotten by all. Most members of the Council had perished in The World Break, but there were some left in the East sector. They were later destroyed by the Dark Master Piedmon. All except Gennai. We are the only other survivors."

Jennai stopped, giving Alice time to fully understand what she had heard.

"How did she get the Crest you mentioned?" Asked the blond girl.

"That is unknown to us. We suspect she made it, although we have no idea how." Then he proceeded with the story.

"Of course since none of us was alive when it all happened, I am telling you what our predecessors have told us in one way or another. Therefor it is possible that there are some inaccuracies in what I told you. But they are of little or no consequence. Now let me continue. All Zeons remained here, as did most Phoenix Spirits. I'll explain about them later. After we restored what we could, and rebuilt what we couldn't, we returned to our duty: to protect the digital and the real world as best as we could. Only now we had ten instead of two. We began with the South sector since it was in the worst condition. It had hardly any digimon left. But unlike the other sectors in the south there were a few digi gnomes left. The only other digi gnomes were here in our world. We… how to say… "helped" in the creation of the first digimon games. This led to the creation of the first "digimon" by the Monster Makers. We also did what we could to help the newly created digimon evolve as fast as possible. We didn't have to do that much thanks to Shibumi and the algorithm he created. We also created the TV show. It shows events that really happened in the East sector. All the digimon and humans in the show are real, although they have no idea they have been watched and are now the heroes of a TV show. The same goes for the new digimon season that starts in your world next month. Only these events take place in the West sector. But that's not important right now. As a result of our interference the South sector is now populated by digimon, as it should be. So are all the others. At first we were worried about the digivolution of the digimon because the two digivolution crystals had remained here. But as a result of the cataclysms that were already mentioned earlier in each sector a different form of digivolving appeared, as well as new laws. And, of course, new evils. So new Chosen Ones had to be selected. In the end they won, although it wasn't easy."

Jennai paused to catch his breath, then started again.

"I already mentioned the two digivolution crystals. So let me explain what they are. Or were before they were shattered. You see, before the World Break there were two large crystals. One with the form of a pyramid and one with the form of an egg. The pyramid was the power source for Normal digivolution, while the egg was the source of power for Armor digivolution. During the World break they were shattered into pieces. Each piece took the form of the crystal it was part of. So some pieces took the form of pyramids, while other took the form of digi eggs. Eventually a war began for some reason between Normal and Armor digimon. This war rages on to this very day. It is far worse than the war between beast and human digimon in the West sector. If there is a way to stop it, it is unknown to us. There is only one place in our world where Normal and Armor digimon live in peace. That place is the City of Rebirth. It is where digimon are born and where their data goes when they are deleted. It has its equivalent in the East and West sectors - Primary Village and The Village of Beginnings. If both were to be destroyed, the data would go to the City. Since all dead digimon are reborn there, it is well guarded by both Normal and Armor digimon. The strongest of both types live there and protect it against everything that would threaten it. It is also where the two crystals were kept until they were shattered. Most of their remains are still there, but not all. That is the second reason it is neutral territory. And since I already mentioned the remains of the two crystals, let me finish. The eggs are all here in our world as far as we know. But not the pyramids. You see, at the time when you were a little girl two were lost. During a battle two portals were opened and through them two of the pyramids were lost. One ended in the human world of the East sector, the other in the human world of the South. Both ended inside a human. These humans were two little girls. The pyramids changed into energy that went into their bodies and has remained there undiscovered by anyone. However since the human bodies are not supposed to be exposed to such power (it was meant for digimon after all), the girls were initially sick for a short period of time, and were ill a few more times over the next few years."

By now Alice had the feeling she knew who the girls are. Soon she would find out if she was right.

"The power changed a little with the change in the pyramids. It could still be used to give digimon the energy to digivolve. But it could be used for something else too, as proved by you recently. As you probably guessed already, the two girls were you and Kari." Alice just nodded in confirmation. "As shown in the TV show, Kari used the power to let Agumon digivolve and defeat the third Dark Master. But she never suspected how she did it. Neither did anyone else for that matter. Everyone thought it was because she had the Crest of Light. They were wrong. You too used that power once. It was when you opened the portal that brought you in our world. This is the change I mentioned. If there are any other changes, they are unknown to us yet."

"Could this be the reason the three Zeons of dreams were interested in me?" Spoke the girl for the second time since the beginning of Jennai's monologue.

"Probably. Only they know for sure, but this may really be the reason. If that is so, they will surely try Kari too. But that's not important at the moment. Since you and Kari received the pyramids we have been watching you. Of course not all the time. But as often as possible. Master Huanglongmon ordered us not to do anything else because there are things you must do on your own, without any outside interference. And you did. You found the way to our world on your own. We are sorry for the loss of your friend Dobermon. While watching over you we saw the time you spent with him. We know you were friends and you were hurt by his death when Yamaki tried to delete all digimon in the human world. Th Sovereigns brought him back and sent him to your world to bring their power to the Tamers so that they could biomerge and fight D-reaper. We don't want to bring back any painful memories, so let's change the subject."

"I would be grateful if you do that."

"Well, I promised to tell you about Phoenix Spirits. They look like small randomly floating clouds of data with the form of a phoenix. They can be loaded by digimon just like any other data. Once loaded, their power remains dormant until the digimon is deleted. Few hours after the deletion the digimon is brought back to life and is at full strength and health. One of the Phoenix Spirits that digimon possesses floats away. There is no limit to the number of such spirits a digimon can have. If another digimon tries to load the data of the deleted digimon, the Spirit's power takes effect immediately, restoring the digimon and preventing the absorption of data. As I said, most Spirits are in our world, but not all. Each of the Sovereigns has one Phoenix spirit, although they may have long forgotten it. One of Zhuqiaomon's Devas, Vajramon, had such Spirit too, which is why he came back after Rapidmon deleted him. Where that Spirit is now is unknown to us. We know there are few more that are no longer in our world, but their whereabouts are unknown as well. That is all we can tell you about Phoenix Spirits."

"That was interesting, but I'm sure I'm not here only to learn all this. What is the real reason I'm here?"

"Yes, it is time you learn why you are here and why we were so interested in you. It is not just the digivolution pyramid you now possess. It is Ophanimon."

"And what do I have to do with her?"

"There is a prophecy that says Ophanimon will be stopped by the Dark Maiden of Light."

"So?"

"You, Alice, are the Dark Maiden of Light."
