Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The (Not So) Horribly Cliched Kaikari Fic ❯ Kiss An Angel ( Chapter 1 )
Somebody Else: All right, we're re-doing this.
Kali: Yeah, we didn't like the way the fic was going so we're doing it with more of my input.
Somebody Else: I hope this is better. (Oh, and I know this seems like Daikari at first, but believe me it's a kaikari fic all the way!)
Chapter 1: To Kiss an Angel
The new digidestined were having a picnic. They had been destroying control spires all morning, and now
they were taking a well- earned break in a grassy meadow. It was a picturesque setting, really. Lush green
grass and rainbows of wildflowers surrounded the basket atop the checkered blanket to the edge of the sunny
woods on all sides. None of the digidestined themselves lay on the picnic blanket, opting instead to splay
themselves in various positions among the knee- high grass with their sandwiches and sodas which Miyako
had complained were seriously hurting allowance, but looking around at just that moment, even the over-
exuberant child of love and sincerity couldn't imagine anything wrong with the world.
The silence continued comfortably for a while after they all finished eating. Hikari was beginning to fall
asleep and began wondering if anyone was already asleep. She knew all the digimon were taking naps, but
what about the humans? Probably Daisuke, she decided. There was no way in hell he could just enjoy the
quiet like this without getting bored. She could hear his rhythmic breathing almost a foot away from her, but
couldn't see him through the grass to tell if he was actually sleeping. She absently started playing with the
grass and realized that her hands were still sticky from the juice in the apple she had eaten earlier with her
sandwich. She couldn't have sticky hands ruining her quiet moment. She remembered passing a stream on
the way here. She frowned. She didn't want to break the silence, but she knew that if she didn't they would
ask and the silence would be broken anyways.
After a few moments of quiet debate, she timidly murmured, her voice carrying in the near- silence of the
rustling leaves and wind "Hey, I'm going to go wash my hands in that stream we saw a little while back,
O.K.?"
Takeru with an equally quiet but concerned voice, "Hey Kari that wasn't that far away but you still have to
cross over into Kaizer territory if you're going to retrace our steps. We still need to pinpoint exactly where
the control spire is in that area."
Surprisingly enough Daisuke wasn't asleep, but wide-awake. However he managed to use his enthusiastic
voice quietly, somehow picking up on the mood of the moment through the energetic haze that seemed to
hide the beauty of silence from him. "He's not here now. If the Ken were going to attack he probably would
have done that already. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that him just sitting there and letting us
destroy his control spires would have been stupid. However, just in case of the slim chance that he shows up
while you're in his territory, I'd be more than happy to go with you Kari- Chan."
"Dai- baka has a point, T.K.," Miyako piped in, gleeful at the thought of contradicting her ex. "He's
probably not here right now. I mean, Ken's a boy genius and all so he probably had a photo shoot or a
commercial to film or something."
Tekaru frowned, even though nobody was at an angle where they could see it since everyone was still laying
down. "Kari-chan, why don't I go with you also?"
Hikari was intrigued by this new, quiet side of Daisuke and also didn't want Tekaru putting the moves on her
while he was still off limits so she calmly stood and replied, "Don't be silly, take- chan! There's no reason
for you both to get up. We'll be fine."
Daisuke smiled hugely at the prospect of spending time alone with Hikari. Then frowned slightly, thinking
about the Kaizer. "Maybe we should take Vee-mon and Gatomon."
Hikari smiled confidently, despite the fact that the rest of the digidestined looked suspicious at this peculiar
reversal of roles. "We'll be fine. And they really do need their rest."
"O.K."
Once they were a ways away, Hikari did something she rarely did: she abandoned tact. She couldn't think of
a nice way to put her questions so she made them blunt. "Dai- chan how on earth did you stay quiet so long?
I've always thought of you as the loud one, so how is it that you suddenly picked up on the mood?"
Daisuke blinked "Huh?"
Kari rolled her eyes "How did you, Mr. Uncontrollable Energy stay so calm?"
"Uh, I dunno. I just felt kinda relaxed."
Kari blinked. "Whatever." Hikari continued the walk in quiet contemplation. She was so wrapped up in her
thoughts that she almost walked into the river. Lucky for her that Davis caught her upper arm. "Come on,
Kari, lets go sit on that rock down there," he said nodding to a large white rock splayed out halfway into the
river.
Once they were sitting out on the rock and her hands had been rinsed, Hikari decided the subject required
further prying. "You know Daisuke, you were the only one of the digidestined that I couldn't read. I've even
gotten better at reading Iori than you. But… you must be somewhat good at reading people since you have
the crest of friendship."
Davis thought a moment before replying. "No, not really. I just try to think the best of people. Like Ken, for
example. I could tell when we were playing soccer that he needed to unwind some. I even had this absurd
daydream about going out to get ice cream together after the game and being friends and… well…never
mind. I just think that under all that there really is a nice guy. I just can't believe that he's the Kaizer and I
can't understand why he'd rather hurt the digimon than make friends with them." Davis winced. "That must
sound kind of childish, huh? But I just couldn't see any bad in him, and he seemed truly happy when he
called me his 'Worthy Adversary' sort of like a child with a new toy.
"But, then I suppose that's all I ever was to him: a toy." He sighed restlessly and flopped onto his back. Then
he abruptly smiled and asked "Wanna swim?"
Hikari laughed and said, "You don't have a particularly long attention span, do you?"
Dai grinned back. "Nope." Apparently his moment of uncharacteristic serenity was over.
Hikari laughed some more. "We can't go swimming, Dai. We didn't bring our bathing suits. And we have a
very busy afternoon ahead of us and we can't be going around with wet underwear. Seeing Daisuke's crushed
look she quickly added "But I bet we could go swimming tomorrow. Just the two of us if you want."
Daisuke still looked dejected but managed a half- hearted smile. "Sure. I'd like that. I just wish it were
tomorrow now."
Kari giggled. "Maybe we could stay all day and pack a picnic lunch and it can be our secret." Kari frowned
out at the river. "Actually, I think it'll have to be a secret. If Tai knew I was going to be a lone with a guy for
more than two minutes he would insist we take the chaperone brigade, and I want some quality time with
you. I've spent alone time with Iori and Miyako and even TEKARU since Tai doesn't think he counts as a
boy because he's Matt's little brother. It's about time I got to know you better."
Kari turned to Daisuke and was surprised at the intensity with which he was looking at her. He blushed and
abruptly tuned away. "Uh, yeah," he mumbled. "That'd be great."
Kari giggled and blushed. "Penny for your thoughts, Dai- chan?"
"Uhm... well..." Dai blushed harder and sweat dropped.
Hikari giggled and blushed more. "You can tell me. Please?"
"Well.... It's kind of embarrassing..."
"I promise not to laugh or make fun or tell anybody."
"Well... uhm... welldontlaughoranythingbutIreallylikeDragonBallZandIwaswonderingif...

Kari had promptly face faulted and fell back on the rock as soon as the blurred words "Dragon Ball Z" had
registered. She had assumed Daisuke had been thinking flattering thoughts about her. "Daisuke is that what
you were really thinking?" She asked calmly, still on her back. She would not allow herself to get
disappointed over this.... shit... too late.
Daisuke looked away. "I'm that bad a liar, huh? But really, do you think he ever did? Do you think maybe
since he and Bulma were different species-"
"I'll answer your questions when you answer mine. If you refuse I'll have to use force."
"Force?"
"Just how ticklish are you, Dai- Chan?"
"..."
"I thought so."
Actually, Daisuke wasn't especially ticklish but if he told her when her weight was pressed against him.... if
she got that close to him... he sighed in defeat. "You win. I was thinking about how much I like you and how
much I'd like to uhm...kissyou"
"What? Dai- chan speak up!"
"Kiss you. I said I was thinking about how nice it would be if you would let me kiss you." Daisuke was
blushing bright red now. "I know that you don't really want me to kiss you on the lips like a boyfriend to
girlfriend type kiss but...uhm...Hikari, could I just kiss you on the cheek? Please? Just a between friends-
type kiss?"
Hikari was blushing furiously now. She wasn't expecting this. Even though she knew he had a crush on her,
she and Daisuke were just friends, not even as close friends as she was with the other digidestined and yet...
he had a really sweet puppy- dog face. She smiled. It was irresistible. "Well... I guess just a little kiss
between friends wouldn't hurt."
Daisuke smiled brightly and leaned over to kiss her on the cheek. Actually it ended up being on her jaw and
it felt... sweet. It was sort of long for what was supposed to be (and decidedly wasn't) a peck on the cheek
but that was all right. They were taking each other in. The smell, the feel, their arms were around each other.
How did that happen?
Kari had been kissed before. She'd even frenched a few guys and she'd liked it. She'd even been kissed on
her neck, but she'd never really reacted like this. She didn't even really know the word for the feeling. There
were shivers up her spine in the most wonderful way, and you'd think that would make her tense but she was
the most relaxed she'd ever been. She wanted to grope him, claim him with her own mouth... he was so
close... but then he was gently pulling away, and she looked into his eyes and ...oh god he was so gorgeous.
No other word would do him justice. She blushed and turned away. After seeing how TEKARU and
Miyako's brake up had affected their friendship she had promised herself to never date anyone within the
digidestined.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by childishly elated laughter. Daisuke was laughing happily. "Woohoo!
I kissed an angel! The most beautiful angel ever let me kiss her. I think I may die from happiness and
shock."
Hikari giggled and blushed. "Stop that. I'm not an angel."
Daisuke laughed. "Well humans sure aren't that pretty, so you've gotta be an angel."
Kari giggled more. He seemed so childishly logical. "Well, I see there's no way to change your mind. Why
don't we plan for that picnic tomorrow?"
The Kaizer sat down in his chair smirking when he saw the colorful blinking lights. He zoomed in on the
sector and was surprised to find that two of the lights were separated from the main group. Even more
surprising was that the lights were different colors. That meant that the pair weren't partners. He switched
the screen to one of his many hidden cameras and was surprised to find the child of light alone with
Daisuke. She was babbling about going swimming tomorrow. He turned away and fiddled with some
controls, organizing a small army of digimon to aid him in their capture but keeping one ear open just in
case they said anything interesting. And then... wtf? Motomiya Daisuke liked that lame kiddie show? Now
theres some interesting blackmail. He stopped and listened with both ears. Motomiya was ticklish... WTF!?
Ken rushed over to the screen and got there just in time to see the child of friendship and courage lean in to
kiss Hikari. Oh, god the look on her face... she looked so... erotic. His lips had ended up very low on her
cheek and she had absently tilted her head back so that they were just on her jaw line. His arms gently clung
to the curve of her waist and her hands had come up to rest on his shoulder blades. He was kneeling in front
of her, practically pulling her into his lap and god she was gorgeous. That wasn't a friendly kiss. He absently
heard the baka's insistence that she was an angel.
Ken felt a pang of jealousy. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted her. Ken smirked. He would have her. A long
time ago he had perfected the dark rings he intended for human use, but he had never been able to capture
any of the digidestined. Then again he never had such a perfect opportunity. He grabbed a small black case
from a drawer and called wormmon to carry the ring for him. Just one. He only wanted Hikari, the light, and
then it would be fun to watch the rest of the digidestined fall at his feet. Oh, yes. Lot's of fun. Almost as an
after thought he ordered some of his Gazimon to prepare the guest room next to his.
