Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The Princess' Bride ❯ One-Shot
Author's Note 1: This was fun. It has no significant plot, it doesn't change the world in any way, and I'm quite sure we were OOC. But it was fun anyway. So nyah!
Author's Note 2: This was certainly a fun story to write; I dunno if Cyn and I will ever write anything together again, but it was certainly fun. ;)

Princess Mimi sat at her window, her gaze directed outside, as she ran a brush through her hair; a moment later, she turned and pouted at her guards. "I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it a thousand more! I won't marry Emperor Yamato, even if breaking the engagement throws off the whole double wedding with King Ken and Lady Miyako! He's silly, he's boring, all he knows how to talk about is music, and he's so stuck on himself, he makes me sick! He has no sense of fashion, and I doubt that he even cares!!!"
Bored, one of the guards stared off into space, not even looking at his charge. "Yes, Princess. No, Princess. Right away, Princess."
Mimi's glare would have melted ice at absolute zero. "I've just sprouted devil horns and a tail!"
"Yes, Princess. No, Princess. Right away, Prince-" The guard cut off as he realized what he was saying, and what she had just said. "Umm... I mean... uhhh..."
"Hmph." Mimi practically threw her brush down onto the table; it landed with a resounding 'thwack'. "Gee, thanks for listening, I feel so safe knowing that my guards are on the watch."
The first guard began to tremble a little, while the second guard, as bored as the first, began to say, "Yes, Princess. No, Prin-urk!" Luckily for his sake, Mimi managed to hold her temper down to a point where she merely picked up her brush, and launched it as his forehead.
"Oh, just get out of here! You're not doing me any good at all." The guards glanced at each other, at her, and back at each other; shrugging to themselves, they did as she said. Mimi muttered under her breath as she glanced out the door after them, shut and locked it, then changed into normal clothing. A trill of birdsong at the window grabbed her attention. "Oh, look at you... free as a bird, no one telling you what to do." The Bluebirdmon trilled again, and fluttered away; Mimi slipped out of her ground floor window, and followed it off into the woods.
As she walked around the paths in the woods, Mimi paid no attention to what was going on around her, simply enjoying being outside of the castle. Of course, her inattention resulted in her bumping directly into someone. As the person she bumped into fell down, Mimi gasped. "Oh, I'm sorry!"
The woman, dressed similarly to Mimi, rubbed her backside as she stood up. "Don't worry about... it..." The woman trailed off as her gaze fell upon Mimi.
"Um..." Mimi said, as her own gaze was trapped with the woman's eyes. The woman recovered first.
"Hi, I'm Miyako-" Hesitation flashed briefly over her face, but she continued. "Yolei. My name is Yolei." And it is, kind of... not many people know my middle name... and it's no use letting on who I am.
Mimi just stood there, blinking, trying once more to force a thought through her mind. "Umm... I'm Mimi... Nice to meet you, Yolei."
"Likewise." From the dreamy tone in her voice, it was obvious that she was still slightly stunned. Mimi and Miyako stood there a moment, just staring at each other, neither really noticing that the other was staring. Finally, Miyako tried to make some conversation. "So... umm... do you walk in these woods often?" That was so lame!
"Whenever I can," replied Mimi. "I... I can't get out that often. I've never seen you here that often..." I am making such an idiot of myself...
Miyako nodded. "I don't get out here very often, myself. My g-... grandfather doesn't like me traveling even the King's Road by myself."
Mimi shook her head. "It's really quite safe, my fa- the king spends a lot of money keeping it that way."
Miyako, in her stunned state, missed Mimi's slight slip. "I know that, but my grandfather doesn't."
Mimi sighed. "Too bad, it's nice out here..." And you look really gorgeous with the sunlight in your hair.... What am I thinking? I just met her! For all I know, she's married!
Similar thoughts were running through Miyako's head. I hope she's not married! Wait, what am I thinking? I'm getting married in a few weeks! "I know... I just wish I got to walk here more often."
Mimi smiled. "I've managed to come out here often enough so that I know my way around. There's a little lake not far from here..." she suggested. "Have you seen it yet?"
"No, I don't think I have..." Almost of it's own volition, Miyako's hand snuck into Mimi's. Mimi pretended not to notice, liking the feel of it, and lead the way to the lake.
As they approached, Miyako gasped, struck by the beauty of the lake, and the mountains behind it. "This is beautiful! And look, there's a boat! Do... do you want to go for a ride?"
The lake is just as lovely as you... Realizing after a moment that she'd been asked a question, she answered, "That would be nice."
As they sat down in the boat, Miyako fiddled with the oars, figuring them out after a moment. Soon, the two were in the middle of the lake, drifting. Miyako was trailing her fingers in the water, pretending that she wasn't watching Mimi, while Mimi gazed over the water, using it to watch Miyako's reflection. "So, what is it that you do?" asked Miyako, breaking the silence.
"Umm... I..." Quick, quick, something that's not an outright lie... Aha! "I model clothes," she said, finally. And it's not quite a lie, every female in the kingdom wants to dress like me...
"Really? I kind of do the same thing. I help to design them, too!" Miyako smiled. And that's not a lie, I did design those Midwinter dresses...
Mimi smiled. "What a coincidence!"
"Yes, really..." Miyako trailed off as the conversation stopped again, though the silence was not awkward; the two were simply enjoying the other's presence. The serenity was broken, however, when a bird fluttered down, flapping right beside Miyako; surprised, she flailed about, upsetting the boat, sending both herself and Mimi into the water. Instinctively, she grabbed Mimi, and pulled her up under the boat, into the air pocket. Mimi stared at her, panting, as they both realize just how close they are. "Do you... would you mind if I... I... I mean..." Trailing off once more, Miyako suddenly leaned forward, and kisses Mimi. Mimi, shocked, almost pulled back, but then fell into the kiss.
"But... but... but..." Mimi's father, the King, stared in shock at his daughter as he did his best to imitate a motorboat. "What do you mean, you don't want to marry Yamato? Since when has this been about what you want?"
"I would rather die than marry him!" exclaimed Mimi, enthusiastically. "I don't even know him!"
"Then who do you want to marry, my dear?" He leaned forward a little, straining to hear as Mimi murmured something. Why do I suddenly not like this? "I'm sorry, my dear, I didn't catch that."
"Her.. her name is Yolei."
"Ah, and what does this.. Yolei... do? Is he a noble?" Please say he's a noble, please say he's a noble!
Mimi looked up, meeting her father's gaze. "She is a fashion designer."
The king sputtered. "She?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? All right, Princess Mimi Andraia Tachikawa, you leave me no choice! Guards!" At his call, a troop of guardsmen ran into the room. "Escort the Princess to her room! Do not let her leave until the wedding!" The guards picked up Mimi, ready to carry her off.
"FATHER!" shrieked Mimi.
"Mimi, you have left me no choice. Guards, lock her door." After a moments reflection, he added, "And make sure someone guards her windows."
As the guards nod in agreement, accepting the orders, Mimi screamed, "I love her, and you can't stop me!"
"Oh, yes, I can!" shouted her father, suddenly enraged. "I'm moving up the date of the wedding! This time next week, you will be wed to Emperor Yamato, and nothing will ever break this marriage!"
As the guards carted off Mimi, who was kicking and screaming, she got in the last words. "MY DEATH!!!"
"I'm sorry, my dear..." said the king, sighing. "This is for the best."
"The wedding has been moved up?" asked Miyako, talking to her maidservant, Sora.
"Yes, milady," replied Sora.
"But... but why?" Miyako was truly stunned; she no longer wished - in fact, she vehemently wished not - to marry Ken, though she had yet to make this known.
Sora leaned in conspiratorially. "The rumors are that the Princess defied her father's wedding plans for her."
"So he decided to move up the wedding? Why, so that she couldn't find a way out of it?" Sora nodded. Darn... I was hoping to find Mimi again! As Sora puttered around the room, tidying up a little, folding up some clothes, Miyako sat at the window, her back against the window frame. Slowly, thoughts of Mimi lulled her to sleep.
"She doesn't love Ken," murmured Sora, to herself. "She never has... but I think she's in love with someone now. If only I knew who..."
Hikari, Mimi's maidservant, tried to get Mimi into her wedding dress so that the final fittings could be performed before the ceremony. "Mistress! Please, let me finish dressing you!"
Mimi wouldn't have it. "I don't want to get married!"
Hikari sighed. "I know, Princess... but Emperor Yamato is in the same situation that you are, or so I hear..." Hikari gasped, quickly covering her mouth, when she realized what she had revealed.
"What?" said Mimi, blinking, surprised at the revelation.
"Nothing! Forget it, Princess; your father won't change his mind now."
Mimi looked at her maidservant, fire in her eyes and ice in her voice. "Hikari."
"It... it doesn't matter, Princess. Please, just make the most of this, and at least try... even if you don't love him, at least try and care for him?"
"Tell me!" snapped Mimi.
"I... I can't." Sighing, Hikari whispered, "You'll hate me for this if you ever find out, Princess." With a wave of her hand, a pink sparkly light descended over Mimi. Within moments, it was gone, and Mimi was once more struggling with her dress, having forgotten what Hikari said. Finally, Hikari won the battle, and Mimi was in the dress.
The wedding march began to sound throughout the church. Mimi, looking utterly pissed, walked beside her father down the aisle. Miyako's father was to his right, with Miyako beside him; this hid the two ladies from each other. Mimi stared straight ahead, while tears poured down Miyako's face.
The ceremony passed in a blur, neither Mimi or Miyako able to pay much attention to what it going on. Finally, the priest intoned, "Do you, Princess Mimi-" He got cut off as Miyako's head shot up.
"Mimi?"
Mimi looked over where the voice had come from, shocked. "Yolei?"
Miyako blushed, embarrassed. "My... my name is Miyako." She stared as Mimi pulled back her veil, revealing her face. "Mimi! It is you!" She pulled Mimi into an embrace. "I... Mimi, I don't want to marry Ken, I want to marry you!"
"And I want to marry you!" returned Mimi, deepening the embrace. With an unspoken thought, they both turned to glare at their respective fathers. Faced with both girls' determination head on, the two senior kings had no choice but to relent, since it was obvious that they would never go through with the arranged wedding. Oddly enough, Yamato and Ken looked rather relieved themselves, staring into each other's eyes with what could only be an attraction as hidden and deep as Mimi and Miyako's.
The priest coughed once, catching everyone's attention. "Excuse me, may I have an answer as to who is marrying whom?"
Mimi looked at the priest. "Miyako and I are marrying each other!"
Then another voice spoke up. "And Ken and I are marrying each other!"
The spectators all stared at Yamato, who had eyes only for Ken as the other king nodded his agreement. The priest shrugged; he got paid no matter who got married.
"Then, Princess Mimi Andraia Tachikawa, do you take Princess Miyako Daena Inoue to be your lawfully wedded wide, 'til death do you part?"
"Yes!"
"Princess Miyako Daena Inoue," continued the priest, "do you take Princess Mimi Andraia Tachikawa to be your lawfully wedded wife, 'til death do you part?"
Miyako looked into Mimi's eyes. "A thousand times yes."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you... well, wife and wife. You may kiss."
And they did.
