Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The Real Me is Not the One You See ❯ Not the best of Friends ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter Two
I slowly became aware of voices all around me. "Is she okay?" "She should be, it wasn't a very bad drop. Hey, you okay, Matt?" "Dang, she's got a pretty good kick *groan*." "Don't worry Matt. That kick probably knocked some sense into you!" "Thanks a bunch Sora." "What is she doing here?" "I don't know, let's check her crest-" My eyes snapped open, and the first thing I noticed were about six faces looking down at me. I sat up, looking for a way to escape, and grabbed my crest. I must have only been out for a few seconds or more. They hadn't even killed me yet. "Lana!" came Ze's voice from my left, sounding worried. "Ze?" I said, looking at the faces around me with distrust. Suddenly a small face was right in front of my nose. "Hi! I'm TK! What's your name?" He asked. "Lana." I answered, looking around for Ze, whom I couldn't see at the moment. "I'm over here, Lana." said Ze, as she pushed her way through the tight circle, and nudged my back, trying to get me up. I looked at her, and she gave a slight look towards the sky, signaling we were going to try to get away again. I started to get up, and edged towards her back, but the blond guy, who I guess was called Matt, grabbed my arm and said, "Hold on, who are you?" I looked at him and bared my teeth. "None of your dang business." I growled. "Why wouldn't it be?!" he exclaimed, exasperated. I got in his face, and was about to tell him exactly why (In words I will not repeat here), when I felt a tiny hand slip into mine. I looked down in surprise, and saw a little girl with brown hair looking back up at me. "It's alright. I'm Kari, and this is my brother Tai! You can trust us, we're friends!" Ok, so sue me, I have a soft spot for kids. "Trust is a word I don't use that often, kid." I said, but backed off of Matt. I sat down on the grass, and looked at the people around me. "You're the digi-destined, right?" I asked. "Yeah, does that make you feel better?" said 'Tai'. I snorted. "No. We heard you guys were a bunch of kids who go around deleting digimon." said Ze in a flat tone. "WHAT!?" they all screamed, and jumped up. Ze panicked, and hoisted me up off the ground with a wing, onto her back. "Whoa! Hold it! We're sorry! We didn't mean to startle you!" said a girl with a blue hat, and held out her hand to me. "I'm Sora." I looked at her hand for a second, and then shook it. "Lana, so you guys don't do all that stuff?" "No!" she said, violently shaking her head. "We help to protect digimon!" "Oh, sure!" snapped Ze. "First, you sick your Kabuterimon on us, then your Wargreymon. Oh yeah, not to mention your Garrurumon. And then you try to take Lana's crest! Of course, I see it all now, you were only trying to HELP us! Why didn't I realize it sooner?" Ze sneered. "I don't think she likes you much." I said with a smirk. "Geez, what a smart-aleck!" said Tai looking at her in disbelief. "None of our digimon ever talk like that!" "Well some of us have to be original." Ze sniffed. Then she stared at him. "Though I have to admit, that goggle look is one that I have never seen before." Tai blushed, and the girl wearing the pink cowboy outfit stepped up, and introduced herself. "Hi! I'm Mimi!" "It figures." Ze muttered. I grinned, and said, "I'm sure you've learned my name by now, I've said it more than once. This however, is Ze. Short for Zeboramon." "I'm Joe." said a kid with blue hair. And another with red hair said he was 'Izzy'. "I'm Matt." said the blond, in a No-autographs-please voice. "I'll try to remember that." I said to him, in a bored voice. "Why are you dressed in all black?" asked Kari. I shrugged, "That's the only color they'd let you wear in prison." I managed to say this with a completely straight face, which was a miracle. They all went pale. "Gullible bunch of kids, ne?" said Ze, turning her head to look at me from my position on her back. "You said it. And I only spent one month in there." I said looking back at her with a shocked look on my face. I noticed Matt slightly pulling TK away from me. I turned and smiled at them. "Hey, you want on TK?" I fully expected Matt to go over the top at this invitation, but to my surprise, TK smiled happily, and climbed up before his brother could protest. He looked down at Ze with bright eyes, and said, "Let's go for a ride!" "Wait for me!" yelled Kari, and scrambled up, along with both their digimon. "No! Don't take-" started Tai and Matt, but Ze had already opened her wings, and flown off into the sky. "WHEEEEE!!!" yelled both of the kids. "Did you really go to prison?" whispered Kari to me. I turned so she could see my face and winked. "No. But don't tell anyone that." "Do a loop-the-loop!" TK yelled to Ze. "Hang on!" she yelled. I gripped both kids, and made sure the digimon where holding me tight, and got a hold on Ze with my knees. She then turned her nose up, and flipped over backwards a couple of times, I'm pretty sure I heard I heard screaming from below, but the noise was drowned out by Kari and TK's shouts of glee. "Ok, that's enough. Let's go back." I said after a few more minutes of flying. "Awwww..." said TK, with a disappointed look. "Can we ride again sometime?" asked Kari. Ze whinnyed and said, "If your brothers don't kill us when we get back!" I looked, and saw what she meant. Both had digivolved their digimon as far as they would go. I gulped, and suggested we drop the kids a little way off from the rest, and then fly off. "Tai wouldn't hurt you!" Kari said with confidence. TK looked kind of nervous, "I don't think Matt would either." "Terrific. I've always hated blonds." (If this offends anyone in the audience, don't worry, she'll change her mind.) I muttered, and licked my suddenly dry lips. "We'll stop here." said Ze, also sounding nervous. We were a good fifty feet from the rest of them. "No, go ahead. They might as well get kicking our butts out of their system." I sighed. She gave a fearful whinny, but soared over to them and touched down between Tai and Matt. "Maybe you should've left us a little 'get away' space." I muttered, looking at their faces. "TK, get off of there!" Matt snapped. I felt TK's grip on my hand tighten, and he said in a shaky voice, "You won't hurt her, will you?" I gave a dark chuckle "You better get down buddy, he looks mad enough to kill." TK reluctantly slid down with Pattamon sitting on his head. I looked down at Kari, but she wasn't paying any attention. "You should have seen the clouds, Tai! They were the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Oh! We also saw a lake near to here that we can stop at for the night and fill up our water bottles! And-!" "Alright! Alright, Kari!" I laughed. "Take a breath! I think your brother would want you to get down right about now." Tai lifted her off Ze's back, and looked very relieved that she was not hurt. Matt, however, wasn't through with me yet. "What the hell did you think you were doing?!" he yelled at me. I looked at him with a slightly amused look on my face. "Temper, temper! We have children in the audience!" "Why I'm gonna-" he growled, stepping towards me. I didn't even let him finish. I slid down off of Ze's back, onto the ground. "Alright Blondie, you'll get what you want. One on One, no digimon." I said, and got into a fighting stance. "Don't hurt him, Lana." said Ze sounding genuinely worried. Matt looked at me like I was crazy. "You mean you WANT to fight?" he asked. I smirked. "Sure. I might be losing my touch. That last guy didn't even get two months in the hospital." He snorted, and looked doubtful. "I'm sure. I'm not THAT gullible." I just smiled at him, but Ze started pawing the ground and tossing her head in a worried gesture. "No." she told him flatly. "She's completely serious. He took her to a party and got drunk, then tried to hit on her. He got two weeks in the infirmary. Be careful." I grinned, and said, "Sorry Ze, but I'm not going to throw any punches, I'll just block so he can get it all out of his system. Unless, of course, he makes me mad." "Look, Matt doesn't want a fight. No one does. Come on you guys! She's a new digi-destined! Let's show a little hospitality!" said Tai, looking annoyed. Hospitality, or hostility? I asked myself, looking at Matt, with a questioning look. He glared at Tai, and then clenched his fists and faced me. Maybe I was wrong. He's not so bad. At least he doesn't take orders from anyone. I thought, and grinned.
