Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ The Rebirth ❯ The Rebirth ( One-Shot )

[ A - All Readers ]
Ken Ichijouji, the former Digimon Kaizer was missing.
He had vanished one day while the Digidestined had all been together in the Digital world, just hanging out and having fun.
During this, Ken has suddenly let out a high, unnaturally pitched scream, as if he was being ripped between dimensions. Then he was gone, just like that.
Of his Digimon, Wormmon, there was also no trace.
A month had passed, his parents were worried about him and the Digidestined were searching for him unaware that a Digimon, a strange panther-like Digimon calling itself Ijomon, had been born in the Primary Village around the time of the former Kaizer's disappearance and had the answer to the question...

'Where is Ken?' Kari thought. 'He can't be dead, of that I'm sure but...I'm beginning to doubt...' She looked around the wasteland around her and then focused on her fellow Digidestined, they all looked defeated and drained. The truth was, they were all depressed from the loss of their fellow, even Cody was having regrets.
Kari sighed and kept looking.

The rookie stage Digimon, Ijomon, yawned and trotted down the grassed hill. He had been seeking out the Digidestined for a whole month and two days now and had come no closer to finding them. His tail waved behind him as he walked.
"Will I ever find them?" He mused aloud to hear his voice.
"Find who?"
Ijomon spun around, his fur bristling up, but then he saw who the speaker was and relaxed. "Palmon."
"Have we met?" Palmon blinked her eyes and tilted her head curiously.
"Err...ah, no. But, you're with one of the Digidestined."
"Yes."
Ijomon moved a little closer to Palmon. "I need to find a Digidestined. Have you seen any?"
Palmon gave him a wary look.
Ijomon looked slightly offended, but then he sighed. "I'm Ijomon and I need to find them."
"Ijomon? I've never heard of you."
"I was only born a month ago, cut me some slack here!"
Palmon blinked. "A month ago? And you're already in rookie stage?"
"I guess I'm just a fast grower."
Palmon crossed her arms. "Why are you looking for the Digidestined?"
"Ken Ichijouji."
Palmon blinked. "The former Digimon Kaizer?"
Ijomon flinched, then nodded. "He went missing a month ago."
"I know, his friends are looking for him."
Ijomon's eyes lit up briefly. "Can you tell me where they are?"
Palmon seemed to consider for a moment. "They were heading for the wastelands by the Digimon Kaizer's crashed ship."
Ijomon flinched again. "Alright, thank you." He turned and rushed off in the direction of the wastelands.

"Doesn't Arukenimon ever get tired of this?!" Davis cried as a spire Digimon, DarkTyrannomon attacked them.
"Why don't you ask her sometime?" Exveemon called down to his partner as he and the other Digimon attacked DarkTyrannomon.
Nefertimon de-evolved back to Gatomon and DNA Digivolved with Aquilamon to create Silphymon.
"What I wouldn't give for Paildramon about now." Muttered Davis, Kari nodded agreement.
'Once we find Ken again...'
Suddenly a panther Digimon as big as Nefertimon leapt onto the scene, dodging DarkTyrannomon's claws it attacked with a fury that made the other Digimon stop and stare at it.
The panther Digimon spread it's black raven wings and reared back on it's hind legs.
"Solar Strike!"
The attack blew a huge chunk off of DarkTyrannomon and Exveemon leapt in and finished it off.
The panther Digimon came to rest on it's hind legs and abruptly de-evolved, then turned to face the Digidestined.

Ijomon had found the wastelands and saw DarkTyrannomon as it was created and attacked the Digidestined from a distance, he had run toward the fray and had paused on a sandhill above them, watching Davis and Kari with his yellow eyes.
"Hello friends." He whispered and his gaze travelled completely to Davis. 'I can feel your heart beating with mine...'
A wonderful feeling came over him and he Digivolved to MegaIjomon, then he had rushed down to help the Digidestined.

"My name is Ijomon." He introduced himself.
"Hey Ijomon!" Davis said, instantly feeling friendly. He introduced himself and his friends, as well as their partner Digimon. Ijomon listened with a smile in his eyes, he already knew all the names.
Gatomon noticed this look and frowned, she had never seen or heard of this Digimon before and the fact that he seemed to know everyone's name already made her wary. She was reminded of DemiDevimon who had sometimes mimicked just this behaviour, so she didn't trust Ijomon right off the bat.
"Why did you help us?" She growled out, which caused Kari to look at her in surprise.
Ijomon also looked surprised, and a little offended at the tone. He laid his ears back. "I...heard you're looking for Ken Ichijouji."
"The former Digimon Kaizer, why do you care?"
"Gatomon!" Kari snapped, surprised at her Digimon's hostile behaviour.
As what always seemed to happen when the words 'Digimon Kaizer' were said, Ijomon flinched. "I'm sorry..." He muttered quietly, then looked at Gatomon with a slightly pained expression. "I think...I might be able to...help you find him..."
At this Kari stepped forward. "Do you know where he is?" She asked with an almost desperate tone.
"I think that I do. I...I can sense him."
"How?" Gatomon demanded.
"I..." Ijomon paused, almost for a painful amount of time. "I'm not sure..." He said finally, wishing he had kept that talent to himself. "Maybe...some higher power wants me to know."
"So, where do you sense Ken to be?" Davis inquired.
"Despair Mountain."
The Digidestined looked at each other blankly, but Gatomon snarled and approached Ijomon with intentions to kill.
"You've got some nerve in you, kitten." She growled, her tail lashing. "Trying to send us there."
Ijomon laid his ears back and hunkered down on his four legs. "I don't understand." He whispered. "I was only born a month ago, I've never been there!"
"A month ago?! And you expect me to buy that?! No Digimon can reach rookie stage so quickly naturally!"
"Gatomon, why are you harassing him?" Kari asked, stepping right over to the two cat Digimon.
"Despair Mountain," Gatomon growled, never taking her eyes off Ijomon for a moment. "Is where Myotismon used to reside."
Kari pursed her lips and nodded, she knew how much Gatomon lothed her former Master. She turned her attention to Ijomon. "Are you sure Dispair Mountain is where Ken was taken?"
"No, I'm not sure. But it's the closest I can guess." He sat up on his hind legs and spread his front legs in front of him in a gesture of peace, looking at the hostile Gatomon. "Look, I don't even know who this Myotismon is. I don't want to lead you into danger, I just want to help you rescue Ken."
"Why?!" Gatomon demanded. "Why would a Digimon like you care about the former Kai--"
"You don't have to remind me what he was!" Ijomon snapped. "I know he was the Digimon Kaizer, you don't have to keep telling me!"
Both Gatomon and Kari were surprised at this burst of anger.
Ijomon calmed down. "I care...I can't tell you why, but I really feel the need to help you rescue him."
The Digidestined looked at each other again.
"Well hey, I trust him!" Davis said suddenly. "I say we take his word for it and head to this Despair Mountain!"
"You trust too easily." Cody muttered.
"Say," T.K said, looking at Ijomon. "How did you Digivolve to Champion if you're only a month old?"
Ijomon blinked and frowned. "I don't know...I just saw you fighting and I felt an urgent need to help."
Gatomon looked at Kari. "That only happens with partnered Digimon." She said matter of factly.
Ijomon's ears went right flat. "I'm...not joined with anyone." He said.
"Well, how far is this Despair Mountain?" Davis asked.
"A good long ways." Gatomon said sulkily, pointing with a claw. "We'll get there faster if we Digivolve."
"Let's do it, then! Ready Veemon?" Davis said.
"Ready!" Veemon said cheerfully.
All the Digimon but Armadillomon and Ijomon Digivolved, Cody and Armadillomon went with Yolei and Halsemon.
"You can ride with us, Ijomon." Kari offered with a smile.
Ijomon looked at Nefertimon to make sure she didn't object before leaping to her back with Kari.
The Digidestined took off into the air, heading for Despair Mountain.

When they arrived at Despair Mountain, Nefertimon de-evolved back to Gatomon and shivered. "I hoped never to see this place again." She said.
Kari looked at Ijomon, who had laid his ears back. "Is this the place?"
"This is where he is." Ijomon said, a slight quaver in his voice. He shook himself out. "Well, let's go then." He started heading towards stone steps carved into the mountain.
"Hold on, you!" Gatomon snagged Ijomon's tail. "How do we know this isn't a trap?"
Ijomon turned as best he was able with a captured tail. "Gatomon," He said evenly. "You are Kari's Digimon, and I have respect for you. Please don't make me question that respect by suspecting me and treating me like an enemy."
Gatomon blinked and released his tail.
Ijomon continued toward the steps, and soon the others followed him.

They got up the steps without incident, Gatomon was trembling slightly by the end of it and stuck close to Kari.
When they reached the top however, everyone just stopped and stared.
The room they had entered seemed to be a huge cavern covered with large, green crytals on the ceiling.
But soon their gazes were diverted elsewhere.
In the middle of the room were two crystals attached to the floor...and inside them were Ken and Wormmon. Both had their eyes closed and seemed to be quite limp.
Ijomon made a pained sound, but it was drowned out by Kari's anquished sob.
"Ken!" She cried, running right over to the crystal that contained him. She put her hands on the crystal, tears running down her face. "Who could have done this?!"
Slowly, Ijomon edged up beside Kari and looked up at Ken's limp body. He smiled slowly. "Finally..." He whispered, and suddenly went limp.
It took the Digidestined and the Digimon a couple of moments to realize that Ijomon had collapsed.
"Ijomon!" Yolei exclaimed in surprise at the same time Kari noticed and scooped the Digimon up.
"He's not breathing..." Kari said after a pause, and blinked.
Gatomon and the other Digimon also looked puzzled.
"He shouldn't still be, then." Gatomon said. "His data hasn't been rebooted for some reason."
"Odd." T.K said.
Their attention was diverted suddenly as Ken stirred within the crystal and opened his eyes. The crystal splintered and cracked and Ken was ejected as it exploded outward.
Kari, who was closest was knocked down and fell with a small cry of surprise.
"Hey, everyone ok?" T.K asked, moving his arm from shielding his eyes and looking at his fellows.
"Yeah..." Kari said. She felt herself being lifted to her feet and turned her head slightly.
"You ok, Kari?" Ken asked, looking at her with his gray blue eyes with concern.
"Yeah, I'm alright Ken." Kari replied with a small smile.
Ken's gaze travelled to the black form in Kari's arms.
Kari noticed the gaze. "His name is Ijomon, he helped us find you."
"Yes," Ken said, reaching forward and putting a hand on Ijomon gently. "I know."
Kari blinked in confusion.
Ken shook his head. "I'll explain later, for now let's free Wormmon and get out of here."
"Yeah!" Davis readily agreed. "Veemon?"
"Ready when you are, Davis!" Veemon said.
But before Veemon could Digivolve, there was a rumbling and a rock fell over the entrance, blocking their exit.
Gatomon jumped in surprise and clung to Kari, suddenly afraid.
Ken's expression darkened. "He's coming."
"Who's coming?" Yolei asked, looking around fearfully.
"The one who brought me here, Otakamon."
As if saying the name was a cue, a dark form suddenly lunged from the ceiling and unfolded itself before them.
The Digimon was all black in color except for it's two, large, red eyes, which focused on the Digimon and Digidestined before it. Besides that, it was hard to see any of it in the dim chamber.
"It's from the Dark Ocean." Ken whispered to his comrades. "It was actually after Kari, but it took me instead for some reason."
Kari paled. "So this is the Dark Master the Scubamon were talking about." She said, and started shaking in fear.
"That's it, it's Digivolving time!" Davis yelled, Veemon Digivolved to Exveemon.
The other Digimon followed suit, except Gatomon, who could only become Nefertimon.
"Ok guys, hit him with all you got!" Davis yelled.
When the Digimon attacked however, the attacks just seemed to bounce off.
"You think you can defeat ME, puny humans?!" Otakamon roared and swept out an arm, knocking Angemon and Nefertimon away.
"This isn't working!" T.K hissed, clenching his fist. "We need DNA Digivolving!"
Ken looked over at his trapped Digimon sadly.
The Digimon that could, DNA Digivolved, but it still didn't seem to be quite enough.
"Exveemon!" Ken called to Davis' Digimon. "Try to free Wormmon!"
Exveemon looked to Davis for confirmation and when he got it, he attacked the crystal.
Otakamon noticed Exveemon's efforts and started to laugh as he cut down Shakkumon and Silphymon. "You cannot defeat me!"
Unnoticed by the Digidestined, Ijomon, who had been put at the base of said crystal began to stir. He lifted his head and looked at the battle, his yellow eyes narrowed and he slowly climbed to his feet.
Exveemon noticed the movement and looked down, starting in surprise. "Uh, Davis..."
Davis looked over, then did a double take. "Ijomon?!"
At the exclaimation, the other Digidestined looked over in surprise.
"This isn't possible..." Ken muttered.
Ijomon focused his eyes on Ken. "Let me help you." He said.
Ken blinked, then nodded and his Digivice began to glow.
"What th--?"
Ijomon glowed as well and Digivolved again into MegaIjomon, he joined the fight against Otakamon, but unlike the other Digimon, he was actually inflicting damage.
Everyone stared, including the other Digimon.
Otakamon was quite shaken up by this and retreated, swearing that it would get revenge.
MegaIjomon then turned it's attention to the boulder blocking the entrance and threw a Solar Strike at it, destroying it, he then de-digivolved and shook himself out.
"How...?" Ken muttered.
Ijomon turned to look at Ken as the other Digimon returned to their basic forms. "I was born from darkness, Ken Ichijouji. Only darkness could harm him."
Ken blinked.
Ijomon trotted over to the crystal that held Wormmon and looked up at him, then his eyes closed and he fell over, vanishing.
Moments later, Wormmon was freed.
"Wormmon!" Ken exclaimed in delight, catching the caterpillar Digimon and hugging him tightly.
Wormmon beamed happily.
Ken turned to his fellow Digidestined. "Lets get out of here." He said. "This isn't a place to linger."
"Yeah." T.K agreed, looking around nervously. The Digidestined all turned to leave.
"Glad to have you back, Ken!" Davis said as they left.
"Glad to be back." Ken responded.
The Digidestined all got out safely and Ken returned home to his tearful parents.
