The Shadow
Chapter 3
Sora was still a bit shaken up by the phone call she got yesterday, as she opened her locker. The
person who had called her, had hung up before Sora could respond. Who would play a prank like
that on me? Whoever it is, is really sick!
"Hey Sora." Sora practically jumped when Tai called her name.
"Tai, don't scare me like that!" Sora turned around, glaring at him.
"Sorry." Tai smiled sheepishly. " Anyway, Matt's band is playing at The Cyclone tonight. The
whole gang is going." Tai looked at Sora expectantly. " It's Friday night, Sora!"
"Okay, I get the point! I'm gonna be there."
"Great! We'll meet at the front entrance at seven. See ya later."
Sora couldn't help but smile, as she collected her books for class.
Sora leaned back against the rails on the sidewalk, she looked around at the fall weather. The
leafs are starting to change colors, and the wind had a distinct chill to it.
Sora stuffed her hand in her pocket. She looked up to see Tai, Izzy, and Joe coming toward her.
"What took you guys so long? I thought you said seven." Sora crossed her arms across her chest.
"Joe's fault." Tai made a face. "Wouldn't leave until he finished his homework."
"Homework is important!" Joe said exasperated. "How many times do I have to tell you that,
before you learn."
"Stop your arguing, people." Izzy interrupted. "Matt's band is probably playing already."
"Where's the others." Sora asked.
"T.K.'s probably inside already, Kari is probably with him, and where Kari is, Davis is. Yolei, and
Ken are over at Cody's. I think it was something about fixing his computer." Tai explained as they
walked into the Cyclone. The atmosphere instantly changed from the quiet streets outside to
blaring loud music from the band.
"Hey, What took you guys so long?" T.K waved to them from one of the booths.
"Don't ask!" Joe answered.
"So what do you guys want to drink?" Kari asked
Matt's voice suddenly boomed through the speakers. " Now we're gonna slow it down for all the
lovers out there. Common out and dance!"
"Common let's dance, Sora."
Sora turned and looked at Tai bewildered. "Dance?"
"I did promise a dance with you at the dance a couple of days ago, remember?"
Sora looked at Tai's sincere eyes. "But this is a slow dance."
"That's not a problem, unless you're scared."
"Scared!" Tai smiled as he saw Sora's eyes change a slightly more reddish color as she always
does when she is being challenged.
"Let's see what you've got Taichi Kamiya." Sora took hold of Tai's hand and pulled him towards
the dance floor.
Tai laughed, he knew exactly how to push her buttons. "Now, just remember not step on my toes
alright?"
"Don't temp me Tai!" Sora retorted.
"Aren't those two cute?!" Joe commented.
"Ya, but it's not likely they'll get together though." Izzy responded.
"Why not?" Kari asked puzzled.
Izzy looked at the couple dancing on the floor. "It's Tai and Sora we are talking about here."
Kari sighed. "You've got a point. Those two are the most stubborn people I've ever met.
Probably takes a miracle to make them admit that they like each other."
Sora's arms encircled Tai's neck., she felt Tai hesitate as his arms slowly came around her waist.
As the soft music flowed through them Sora relaxed against him, despite the fact that she and Tai
had practically went to every dance together, and they always came to the Cyclone together,
they've never actually danced together. Except for maybe this one time when they were 14 years
old, and Mimi dared them. But that didn't count because it was a dare after all.
Sora looked up to find Tai looking in the direction of one of the booths, where Angel was sitting
with a couple of her friends. Sora's heart sank. " Do you like her?" She whispered.
Tai looked down at Sora confused. " Like who?"
Sora nodded towards the direction of Angel. " Her...Cause you know, she likes you...a lot and...I
know she's a bit perky, but she's really not that bad..."
Tai looked at Sora with a bewildered look on his face. " I don't like her!" Suddenly Tai's
expression changed. "Why! Are you jealous?" He chided.
Sora laughed, and Tai suddenly felt that strange sensation inside of him again. He looked at Sora,
she seem to take his breath away. With her soft auburn hair framing her delicate face. Her ruby
colored eyes shining with happiness and life, her silky white skin, and her soft feminine lips.
She seem to surround him, when he looked back at her, her eyes were starting to close and she
was leaning into him. As if with a will of its own his head bent towards her, when they were only
a breath away, Matt's voice suddenly echoed through the speakers.
"The band's taking a break, we'll be back in ten minutes."
Sora smiled weakly, "We better get back to the booth."
"Ya," Tai said dazed. It had almost happened again, he had almost kissed her. And damn it! He
had wanted it to happen, he had wanted to kiss her, and have her kiss him back. Tai frowned as
he followed Sora back to the table.
"Hey Sora, look at what you've got." There was a smile on Kari's face as she held up a purple
rose and a note in her hand as Sora and Tai approached the table.
Tai frowned as he looked at the flower. " Who's it from?"
Matt seeing Tai's reaction smiled smugly. "Ahh...Jealous, I see."
Tai glared at him. He turned to look at Sora, only to find that her face had gone a few shades
lighter. And her hand was shaking slightly as she held onto the note.
Tai walked over to Sora and read the message.
Sora;
I watch as the light gleamed off the knife,
Reflecting perfectly the horror on the girl's face.
She begged with her eyes for me to let her go,
I watched as the tears rolled off her faces and socked the carpet,
She would have cried out if she wasn't gaged.
The tip of the knife gently cut into her skin, causing blood to spill over.
Her scream was muffled from the cloth, and whimpers can be heard.
I couldn't take it anymore and took mercy on her,
I applied more pressure on the knife that was against her neck,
The once struggling body now lay limp on the carpet.
There was no more whimpering, no more tears, she is now dead and at peace.
Shadow.
Tai's hand shook with furry as he looked up at the many shocked faces of his friends. He looked
back at the piece of paper in his hand, ripped it to pieces and threw it down on the table.
"Bastard!" Tai can barely control his furry.
Kari dropped the rose on the table as if it stung her. "Who would write such awful things.?" Her
eyes still wide with shock.
"It's obviously a psycho!" Matt spat out the words.
"Are you alright?" Joe turned his concern eyes to Sora.
"Ya...I'm fine." Sora swallowed. "It's just a dumb prank. It's okay." She whispered.
"This is not okay! Whoever did this, obviously have problems." T.K stared at the pile of shredded
paper.
Sora brushed her hand across her face. "I'm sorry guys, but I don't feel so good. I think I'm
going to go home early."
"I'll walk you." Tai offered.
Sora smiled weakly and nodded her head.
The rest of the group watched the couple as they slowly left the building.
No one said anything as they walked towards Sora's house in silence. Tai cast the occasional
glances at Sora, who was just walking silently beside him.
"Sora..." Tai suddenly stopped and turned Sora to face him. "Sora...look at me!" But Sora just
turned her head away. "Sora!" Tai put his finger under her chin, and turned her head to face him.
He was surprised to see the tear stains that's on her face.
Tai didn't know what to do, he hated seeing her like this. "Sora, it's alright. It's just a dumb
prank." He pulled her into his arms. Sora went willingly, burying her head into his shoulder.
"Tai...I'm scared." She sobbed. " First it's the phone calls and now this."
"Phone calls!" Tai's eyes widened. "What phone calls?" Sora's shoulder shook as she explained
what had happened last night.
"I don't know what's going on. What did I do? Why is this person trying to scare me like that?"
"Sora...," Tai brought her closer to him. "It's going to be okay. I won't let anything happen to
you."
"Promise?" Sora whispered into Tai's shoulder.
"Promise." Tai vowed.
They stayed like that in each other's arms on the sidewalk ignoring the cold as the fall wind
swirled around them.
Shadow walked out of the dark. The killer slowly walked over to the table that the digidestined
had occupied. There wasn't many people in the Cyclone anymore, most had left.
Shadow brushed aside the shredded pile of paper, and picked up the purple rose. Shadow studied
the rose as the killer's fingers twirled the flower in it's palm. The killer brought it up and sniffed
the faint fragrance of the flower.
Snap... the rose broke in two. The smile remained on the killer's face as the petals from the
flower slowly fluttered to the ground. Obviously Sora hasn't taken this threat seriously, she still
didn't know what's going on, she still thinks this is a prank. The poor girl has no idea that her life
is in jeopardy. Oh well, the more naive she is the more fun I can have with her. Shadow looked
down at the broken flower. I guess I'll just have to convince you that I'm serious.
It is always sad to kill one of gods' creations, but to get what I want, I would have to sacrifice
you, and after all you are expendable. Without a backwards glance, the killer turned and left the
Cyclone.
