The Shadow
Chapter 8
"Sora! Get away!" Angel's voice jolted Sora back to her senses.
She frantically shoved herself off the ground. Sora made a mad dash towards the sidewalks, she
flung herself forward, her hands instinctively came out in front of her to block her fall, she landed
sideways, her left leg in an awkward position under her.
The car missed by a mere inch, as it swirled to the right avoiding her. It skidded to a stop, the
driver came out of the car, running towards her.
"Are you alright, miss?" He began, but he was interrupted by a near hysterical Tai.
He pushed his way pass the crowd and practically shoved the driver to the ground as he ran to
Sora's side.
"Sora, what happened? Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He asked anxiously.
"Tai, I'm. . ."
Suddenly Tai turned around and glared at the driver. "Don't you know how to drive? You could
have hurt her! You almost did, you son of a . . ."
"Tai! Stop it!" Sora screamed. She nearly got ran over by a car a moment ago. She needed
comfort right now, not someone who is more of a wrack than she felt.
Tai stopped and turned around to face her. Sora was shocked to see his eyes glistening. "Oh Tai."
Sora whispered.
Tai knelt down beside her and wrapped his arms around her. "I was so scared Sora."
Sora wrapped her arms around him. "Tai. . ."
"I thought I lost you, when I saw you on the ground and the car coming towards you." He
choked out.
Sora buried her face in his shirt, willing herself not to cry.
"Oh god Sora! I never want to go through that ever again. I can't live without you."
"You won't." Sora answered back. "I will never leave you. I promise."
Tai's arms tightened around her. Sora never wanted to move, she felt save and secure in Tai's
arms. Angel's voice suddenly interrupted them. "Sora are you alright?"
Sora looked up reluctantly at her. "I think so. Thanks Angel, you saved my life."
"I did?"
"Ya, you snapped me out of my daze, when you told me to get away."
Angel smiled. "I'm just glad, that you're okay."
"What happened anyway?" The driver interrupted. " One moment the street is empty, and the next
you came flying out of nowhere."
Sora hesitated. " Someone shoved me from behind." She could feel Tai tense up.
"Someone pushed you from behind?" The driver said puzzled.
"With so many people in the park, it's impossible to tell who did it. It could be anyone." Angel
explained.
Tai's eyes darkened. "But there's only one person that we know that want's to hurt Sora."
"Excuse me?" The driver asked even more puzzled.
"Never mind." Angel turned back to Tai. "We better get Sora home."
Tai nodded. He helped her up, but as soon as Sora's left leg touched the ground it gave out on
her.
"Sora!" Tai's eyes was wide as he caught her.
Sora grind her teeth against the pain coursing up her leg. "It's my left ankle. I can't walk."
Tai suddenly lifted her into his arms.
"Tai. . ." Sora stared at him.
"Common Sora, let's get you home."
Shadow smirked as she watch Tai carry Sora away. She could have killed her then and there, but .
. . it just wouldn't be the same. Shadow's eyes darkened, to let Sora die like that would be so
meaningless. She wanted her to suffer, to die slowly, to feel the blood slowly seep out of her
body, and most importantly she wanted Sora to die by her hands. She wanted Sora to see who
Shadow is before she died. She wanted to see the horror in her eyes when she killed her, and so
this is why Shadow let her live.
Shadow's mouth slowly stretched to a grin as a plan began to form in her mind. And this time, she
will not fail.
Sora curled up on the couch next to Tai. "The doctor said that I just twisted my ankles and to stay
of my feet for a while. And mom went totally ballistic, she said I'm not suppose to go anywhere
for the next couple of days so my ankle can heal. The only thing good about this is that she won't
even let me go to school." Sora rolled her eyes heavenward.
Tai chuckled. "She's just worried about you."
Sora sighed. "I know, and that's why I love her, but I'm a big girl, I can take care of myself."
"Yes, but people like your mom and me like taking care of you." Tai smiled.
Sora blushed. "So what happened in school anyway?" She changed the subject.
Tai's eyebrows furrowed together. "Nothing, really. Except Julia was away today, and she also
canceled her party next week."
"Julia? She canceled her party?" Sora asked worried. "But that's impossible. She was so excited
about it. Do you think something happened to her? You don't think she's hurt, do you?"
Tai shrugged nonchalantly. " She's not worth you worrying about."
"Why would you say that?" Sora asked outraged.
Tai's eyes darkened. "For all we know, she is Shadow, and she. . ."
"But we don't know." Sora argued. "And she's still my friend."
Tai sighed. "You're too nice Sora." He touched her cheeks gently. "Tomorrow is Saturday. If you
really want to know if she's alright, I'll could go check on her."
Sora smiled and kissed him lightly on the lips. "Thank-you. You're the best."
Tai sighed and rolled his eyes heavenward. "I know."
Sora laughed and kissed him again and this time it was deep and long.
Izzy looked sideways at Tai as they entered the apartment building. Tai hasn't spoken all morning
which is very abnormal for Tai.
Izzy sighed. "You really don't want to see Julia huh?"
"I just don't get why Sora would worry about her, especially after what she tried to do to her."
Tai practically growled.
Izzy and Tai walked into the elevator and pushed the button marked five. "I know exactly what
you mean. I am not particularly fond of Julia either. But you know what they say, 'innocent until
proven guilty'. Maybe Sora's just looking at the situation this way."
Tai didn't answer.
"This visit isn't all bad, Tai. Just remember, we're here to gather information. And also to find
anything suspicious that would help point Julia out."
Tai just simply glared.
Izzy sighed, exasperated. "Just remember to try to be nice when you get there."
The elevator stopped and they got out. They walked down the hall until they reached Appt.#56.
"This is the one." Izzy ringed the doorbell.
A moment later a women answered. She was an exact duplicate of Julia, except maybe older and
she looked weary.
That must be Julia's mom, Tai thought.
"Hi ma'am." Izzy began. "I'm Izzy Izumi and this is Taichi Kamiya. We're some of Julia's
friends. One of our friends, Sora Takenouchi is worried about Julia, when she didn't show up for
school yesterday. And we're wondering if we could see her and . . ."
Before Izzy could finish his sentence. The women broke into tears. Tai and Izzy stared at her
shocked.
Ding Dong.
Mrs. Takenouchi hurriedly got out of the kitchen and went to open the door. "Oh, hi Angel. What
are you doing here."
Angel smiled up at Sora's mom. "Hi Mrs. Takenouchi, I'm here to see Sora."
Sora's mom smiled. "Common in. Is those for her?" Mrs. Takenouchi gasped at the flowers.
"Yes they are" Angel put the roses down on the table.
"How beautiful. It's an interesting color." Sora's mom looked at her watch. "Oh dear, I'm late.
Sora's in her room, I'll go get. . ."
"It's okay, Mrs. Takenouchi. I could get Sora myself."
"Thanks dear." Sora's mom said. "You're such a sweetheart. Make yourself at home. I better get
going. Well bye." And with that she left, leaving Angel in the apartment.
"What do you mean she's in the hospital?" Tai asked shocked.
Izzy glared at him sideways. Tai ignored him and looked at Julia's mom from across the coffee
table. Julia's dad was beside her trying to comfort her.
"How did this happen?" Izzy asked.
Julia's dad sighed. "The police is not sure yet."
"I don't get it." Julia's mom took another tissue from the tissue box." Everything was fine when
she left the flower shop." She sobbed.
Tai and Izzy exchanged looks. They had seen Julia leave the flower shop also on Thursday.
"She just said that she was going to see someone, and that she'll be home in time for dinner."Mrs.
Suki began to cry all over again.
"She didn't come home that night." Mr. Suki continued. "We got sort of worried, because if Julia
decide not to come home that night, she would normally call home. But we didn't make such a
big deal out of this because we just though that she'd forgotten."
"And then the next morning." Mr. Suki's voice lowered. "We got a call from the police saying
that they found a young girl's body in an alleyway. And that it could be our Julia."
"When we got to the hospital and saw our daughter lying on the hospital bed." Mrs. Suki had
tears streaming down her face. "My world just shattered."
"The doctor said that Julia is unconscious because she was struck from behind with a rock in the
alleyway. And they're not sure when she'll wake up." Mr. Suki's fist clenched. "And the only clue
the police have is a stinking purple rose."
"A purple rose?" Tai and Izzy said in unison.
Mrs. Suki nodded. "My poor baby."
Tai was tense as he got up to leave. "We better be on our way. I'm sorry we've bothered you."
Mrs. Suki nodded, she walked them to the door. But before they left, she suddenly said. "Earlier
you mentioned someone by the name of Sora Takenouchi."
Tai looked at her puzzled. "Yes, she's the one that sent us here."
"Hold on a sec." She said as she walked back into the apartment. She came back a moment later
with an envelope in her hand, on top of the envelope spelled Sora's name. She handed it to him. "
I think this is meant for her. It was the last thing Julia wrote down before she left the store." And
with that Mrs. Suki closed the door.
Tai stared down at the envelope, an ominous feeling coming over him.
"What does it say?" Izzy looked down at the envelope curiously.
Tai slowly opened the envelope and unfolded the piece of paper that was inside.
To: Sora
If you ever got to read this letter, it can only mean that something happened to me. I know I
should have told you about this earlier, but because I didn't you may get hurt. Understand that I
never wanted anything bad to happen to you, but. . .but I had to protect her also.
You're one of my closest friends but so is Angel, and I don't want anything to happen to her
either. By now, you probably understand what I'm talking about. Yes, Angel is Shadow. As your
friend I'll try and talk to Angel and tell her to stop, but as her friend I can't call the police on her.
Please understand Sora, that I'm sorry. I really am for not being of any help to you.
Regretfully yours;
Julia.
"Shit!" Tai stuffed the letter in his pocket, and began to run as fast as he could to Sora's
apartment, with Izzy on his heels. He didn't' know why, but inside he just had the feeling to get
there as soon as possible or the consequences will be fatal.
Sora looked at the clock on the wall, it was 10:00 AM. Tai promised to come over after visiting
Julia. I wonder if she's alright. Suddenly a noise interrupted her thoughts. Sora frowned as she
got up and opened her bedroom door. Mom should have left for work by now, so what was that?
"Mom!" Sora called out as she walked into the living room. "Mom!" Sora called again but no
answer. Sora's heart thudded in her chest as she walked into the kitchen.
She let out a breath of relief as she saw the familiar figure. The person had her back to Sora. Her
golden blond hair hanged past her shoulders and her slim body was against the kitchen counter.
"Oh . . . Angel, it's only you." Sora laughed nervously. "You scared me."
Suddenly Angel turned, the sunlight coming through the window glinted of the knife that was in
her hands. An evil smile slowly spread across her face. " You should be scared . . .
