Chapter 3

Chichi awoke the next morning to her radio playing “So what” by Ciara and Fieldmob. As she listen to the words, she relized how much they related to her. Hojo spent his time, when not with Chichi, with other girls and made up exuses not to be with her. So what. She didn't care. Let him do whatever he wants with his life. He wasn't hers and in a way, never was. She looked at her bedroom door to find Yamcha standing there. She smiled slightly and rolled out of bed. After shutting off her clock, and a quick hug from Yamcha, she got redy for school. Today she washed her hair, and wore green army pants, and a black shirt with a picture of a broken heart and in bold letters said: “You break it, You buy it”. After putting her hair up in her usual ponytail, Chichi and Yamcha went to school.

Chichi looked around for Kagome, but she didn't seem to be there. This was strange, considering she saw her last night, so it seemed pretty unlikely for Kagome to come down with something. Then Chichi heard Eri, Yuka and Ayumi talking. “I heard Kagome broke her collar bone”. Whispered Yuka urgently. “Nuh-uh. Her grandfather said that she had isometrics or something.” Ayumi said. “Well I heard those, plus she has rheumatism AND diabetes.” Eri said, seemingly sure of herself. Chichi was confused. Kagome was in high spirits yesterday and last night. Hold it. Yesterday, in second period, was it just her or did Kagome look really tired and she kept mumbling the word “sit” to herself. Hmmm. It was very strange, but what could Chichi do about it. The first two periods zipped by, and third period was gym.

As Chichi changed into her white t-shirt and her high-cut shorts, she thought: [Well, “sit”... You say that to a dog, but kagome has a cat... Maybe She was thinking of Sota... Probably telling him to sit down... Oh god... All this thinking is hurting my brain... I should stop... Vollyball for gym today... Hojo will be on the other side of the fence... Running... Arggg... Must...Stop...Thinking... Hojo...] “SHUT UP!!!” she yelled aloud to herself. The other girls turned arund in alarm. Chichi sheepishly grinned arund the locker room. “Uhhhhhh... Heh, heh. Um, just a little mind battle with myslf. Oh you know, like, uh...um...Oh! Like war and stuff! Like whether or not pink bunnies-um...my bad...heh heh ehe heh...” Chichi trailed off. Chichi saw Bulma roll her eyes and whisper something to her friends. Chichi's face burned with shame, and for the rest of the period, tried to do her best without drawing attention to herself.

After school, she trudged miserably to Yamcha's school. She looked up, and saw kids rushing out of school. Then she saw Yamcha with his hand over his eye. His teacher stoped him, put her hand on his shoulder and said something. He nodded and left, when he saw Chichi, his face grew red and someone hit him in the shoulder relly hard. Yamcha stumbled for a second, then, regained his balance. He walked up to Chichi and said: “Let's go.” Chichi said nothing, and followed him. After getting out of earshot of the shool, Yamcha stopped Chichi and lowered his hand. She gasped. Yamcha was sporting a swollen, black eye. “Yamcha! What happened!?” Chichi asked in alarm. Yamcha looked away in embarassement. “Uh... Well some guys cornered me at school and they...um...they...beat me up...” he trailed off. “THEY WHAT!?!?! WHY!?!?!YOU'RE THE MOST POPULAR GUY IN SCHOOL!!!” Chichi yelled. “...I know...that's mainly the reason the beat me up. It's okay...No biggie...” Yamcha replied miserably. Chichi said nothing and they truged home .

When Chichi and Yamcha, he put some ice on his eye, and went to lie down. A little while later, Chichi checked up on him. He was asleep. She smiled slightly, and left. She sat down at her computer to organize her folders. Chichi hadn't organized her folder in months. It took about two hours, but only because she kept looking at different files and pictures. Chichi still wondered what happened to Kagome. Maybe she should visit her and see what's wrong. But it was rude to just drop in without calling. But what if Kagome came down with something? But what if it's all a joke? What if-? Chichi cut herself off. If you spent your life on “What ifs” that's a waste of your life. In the end, Chichi decided to go to Kagome's house.

Chichi slipped on a pair of jeans and a blue tank top. She wrote a quick note telling Yamcha where she went, threw on her sneakers and ran out the door. Chichi arrived at the Higurashi household, 30 minutes later. Panting, she knocked on the door. She waited and knocked again. The door was answered by Kagome's mother. “Hello Chichi. How are you?” Kagome's mother inquired. “Um...fine thanks...” Chichi muttered. Kagome's mother invited her in for a cup of tea. As Chichi quietly drank her tea, Kagome's mother stared at Chichi in such a curious way that Chichi just had to look up. Kagome's mother cocked her head and smiled. (A/N: You know...eyes closed, genuine smile.). Kagome's mother got up to fetch something. Chichi looked at Buyo, lapping up tea.

Kagome's mother returned with a long, slim, wooden box in her hands, as well as a bigger one. She sat beside Chichi and opened the long box first. Chichi gasped. In it was a beautiful sword with a silver dragon handel. Then they opened up the second box. Chichi gasped even louder. In it was a gorgeuse haori. It was black with a neon green dragon on the back and a neon pink dragon on the front. She went to go try it on. When she came out, she was barefoot, her hair in a ponytail, and her sword strapped by her side. Kagome's mother looked at her and looked out the window towards the well. “Chichi... If you're planning to join my daughter, be safe...” Kagome's mother trailed off. Chichi gave her a slight nod and left.

As Chichi left, she looked towards the well. Kagome's mother had looked at the well for some reason. Chichi stepped inside the shrine. Stale, musty air greeted her nose. Chichi looked at the well. It seemed pretty ordinary. But something was pulling her in. She felt a need to go. Slowly, as if in a dream, she found herself in front of the well. But she was scared as well. If she jumped down, would she ever come back out? But she had the nagging feeling that she was needed. She fingered her sword. But she didn't pull it out of it's sheath. Later. She would need it later. She just knew it. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and jumped....
