Matti and Naruto

A full two weeks droned by since the day Vegeta agreed with Bulma not to ’be a bad boy’ and take housing at Capsule Corp. with her. Thankful for her father, the Gravity Room was built after three days, which gave the prince work to do instead of poking hurtful fun at Yamcha. His training was routine, rough, mostly unbearable. Obsessive was the word Krillin once used, which described Vegeta to full extent. Yet, after several days, he stopped. Muscles never wore down, machine not stopping production. An object within the warrior’s mind caused uncasing days of onyx eyes distant with thoughts.

Bulma, always observant, (and constantly trying to get close), noted Vegeta’s absence in the chamber every hour of day and night. He stayed in the room she provided, only leaving to eat or escape to the front lawn for meditation. Once, she dared to ask if he was alright.

“Leave me alone, woman. You female folk are so damn nosey!” He chuckled, turning for his back to face her. “It’s not like your species of human is intelligent anyway.”

That was final for Bulma, leaving him alone until she wanted his companionship, possible affection. Not knowing when that time would come, she decided to not bother in trying hard.

Vegeta was glad to have snuck away from the scientist. She was like an annoying dog in heat around him. With his enhanced Saiyan senses, he knew better than anybody with that fact. He was surprised her boyfriend, Yamcha, did not. Besides, he had much more important issues to work out.

A young raven haired girl, around the age of six-teen, took change from an elderly cashier after buying her and her younger brother each water bottles. She ushered the boy out before he could steal the fruits his large crystal eyes were hovering around. “We’ve been traveling long. Don’t give ourselves away now!”

The blonde male rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, eyes closed in his trademark expression. “Sorry, but our food packs are nearly empty! We’ve been rationing food for days!”

“Relax,” Matti suggested, handing him the water she bought him, “We’ll be reaching Papa’s territory soon.” A small palm pilot unhooked from her belt, delicate, war torn fingers holding the skinny stylist. “In a few hours, if we keep walking.”

Naruto blinked, shoving the plastic Poland Spring bottle in his backpack. “Screw walking!!” He leaped high, catching a low hanging oak tree limb. The branch, old and eaten away by age, snapped suddenly under the heavy pressure. He fell right on his backside, bouncing once off the concrete sidewalk.

Matti stepped over him, not bothering to assist him to his feet. “Like I said, only a few hours by foot.”
**

Vegeta planted his feet firmly, boots crushing miniscule strands of grass. His children were late by a day and he did not like that sign. If something happened, he would never know. Their father and mother would curse the prince till his death if a wrong had been done. His dark eyes squinted to see far in the distance.

Naruto snuggled his face deeper in Matti’s warm back. His hands folded to fists holding her shirt. A strap from one of their bags fell from his shoulder, but he did not care.

“You’re here in one piece.” Vegeta smirked. “Anybody follow?”

Matti shook her head, shifting her sibling against her back. “No. Master Kakashi followed till we were far from any ninja territory. I made sure to cover all tracks.”

“Good. All we need is a bunch of those pricks. Either of you injured?”

Naruto was sure the firm voice he heard was one he recognized. Yawning, he rested his cheek on Matti’s shoulder.

“No, hungry and worn out.” She set Naruto down when he asked. “Papa….” Her fists quivered from tightness.

Vegeta had guessed she would be the one to cry. She was very attached with friends, since there was no more family to go around. Naruto, had none, so strayed, sometimes acting loony to gain unwanted attention. They wished desperately to become a pack. Softly, his hand rose away from his chest, patting her spiky bangs.

Matti opened her eyes, allowing the tears to fall. “I missed you…” Naruto hid his face in her side, clenching her shuriken holster.
**

“Well, they may not be yours, Vegeta, but one thing is for sure; you raised them.”

Matti snuck a hand in Naruto’s plate, taking half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She gracefully ignored the glare he sent her as he clamped white teeth into his own half. “What makes you say that. I’ve been told I am like my father.”

Bulma rested her elbow on the table, cheek in hand. “Oh, just the part about appetite and…attitude for the little one.”

Naruto did not even think about the comment. “Have any more bread? I wanna make another sandwich, Since Somebody Keeps Eating Mine!!” His sister shrugged him off. “Yeah, that’s right! Don’t even try to fight me!” A heavy punch came in swift contact with his arm. “…..more bread please.”

“You’re more of a greedy fox than me!” Matti snapped, “It is called being polite!”

“Just shut up! I asked and not grabbed, didn’t I?!”

“It still doesn’t count!”

“Sure it does!”

“You are pathetic, Naruto….”

“I am not!! I made the cut for a Genin before we left home, didn’t I?!”

Matti closed her eyes, clearly unimpressed. “So? I passed my exam to become a Jonin, and now study in specialized fields.” She grinned, similar to Vegeta. “It will be years before you are anywhere near my level and I’ll keep moving upward.” Her brother’s rage was not at all difficult to miss. His attempt to aim a shuriken missed because of his blind anger.
Naruto’s fists clenched. “You SUCK!”

“Thank you.”

Annoyed with the sibling rivalry, Vegeta slapped both behind their heads. They winced at the punishment in silence. “Shut up before I make sure neither of you can argue again!” They nodded together. “Good. Now go find something to do before you eat all my food.”

The siblings picked up their things and did as told, heading outside among the grounds.

Bulma stacked each used plate on the table. “It’s not all your food, Vegeta….”

The prince snorted, leaving the room. He was in no mood for a challenge.
**

Naruto kicked in his sleep, dreaming of fighting off enormous demons as they attacked his home village. Of course, he was winning without breaking a sweat. Rolling over and grabbing his pillow, his teeth sank through the cloth casing.

His sister slept soundly in a room next to his. A five pointed shuriken, each blade about a foot long, was folded under her pillow. No matter where she was housed, a weapon would always be close at hand.

Vegeta folded his arms, resting his back against the South wing fence. Again, he was expecting company.

“Vegeta, Prince of the Night. That fits more suiting for you.”

Keeping body still and face emotionless, the Saiyan warrior remained calm.

“How were they when they arrived?”

He shrugged. “Fine, but not better. Did anyone track them?”

Kakashi hopped from the tree he was camouflaged in, branch hardly swaying from his absence. “Not sure. We found a few areas that were easily seen to have a few bugs, but I know Naruto backtracked for some reason. How long will you have them stay?”
Vegeta stretched his legs. “The woman who invited me feels guilty they have no home and that I neglect. She will allow either one to stay for however long. I only need them for training.”

Kakashi unclipped a lock from the breast pocket of his vest. “Be careful. Matti has been ruthless from her studies. Naruto has become a couch potato, so spar with him as much as possible.” He handed Vegeta two small scrolls. “Incase. Have Matti make more.” Without reading the seal, the man knew what each was for. “They have much better control, being older and not much war time. Take care of them.” He took a seat beside the Saiyan, single raven eye watching the slowly fading 5am sky. “So….how have you been after all these years?”

“Perfect as usual.” Vegeta replied with a smirk.

“That’s good to know.” He turned a few moments later when the Saiyan sat up with a start. “What?”

A hint of ki, identifiable with evil, was approaching Earth.
