Saiyans of the Silver Millennium
By: Nova Starlight
Prologue:
Thousands of years ago deep in the outer reaches of space, there was a planet in turmoil. The planet was known as Arti, and it was inhabited by a species known as Saiyans. These saiyans had long since split into two different sides and began warring with each other for control of the entire planet. Years of civil war and destruction had nearly reduced the planet to rubble and as life seeped from the planet, both sides needed to consider their options, but it was put off time after time in favor of continuing the war. Then a sudden meteor shower hit the planet and caused massive causalities on both sides. It showed both leaders that there was no more time left to delay the inevitable.
The leaders King Vegeta and King Letiz met in a neutral zone and ended the war in the interests of escaping the planet to find new homes. The two headed off from their home planet in total opposite directions. Both sets of saiyans could now find their own planet from which to express their beliefs and maintain their own governments without battle. While Letiz decided to scour the galaxy for an abandoned planet so that his people would not be embroiled in another conflict over a planet. King Vegeta however simply located the nearest prosperous planet and sent down his soldiers to kill off all of the life so that they could claim it as their own. What was once known as planet Plant became the new Planet Vegeta.
For the others, months passed of drifting through space with no luck, the soldiers were close to a mutiny against their leader. Then as if by providence, the King happened to be looking through the telescope in his quarters and found a shining beacon of light. On impulse he directed the fleet to land there to investigate. The planet they had discovered turned out to be the moon of a planet that was already occupied. The uninhabited moon was empty and bleak but it could be improved. It was that night as they camped out around the ships he announced that this moon would become their new planet. “Everyone may this planet become a testimony to our bright and shining existence, I know proclaim this the Silver Moon Kingdom.”
Many years later, both groups of saiyans had established themselves and become known throughout the universe. They had also evolved to suit the environments of the planets they now inhabited. The saiyans of planet Vegeta had become rougher and tougher with time. Breeding standards produced stronger and stronger offspring every year that went out to conquer and control more and more worlds out in space. However, the saiyans of the moon became gentler and more bureaucratic with time. Despite this, they were still very powerful creatures and a force to be reckoned with in military precision. Their appearances had also changed because after years of exposure to the brilliant rays of the sun most of the saiyans had come to have white tails. Brown tails were rare and almost unheard of after years of evolution.
Neither of the groups had been in contact since their split and there seemed no reason to change that fact, until one day the current King Vegeta became curious about the saiyans that had once been at war with his ancestors. He sent a patrol group of slaves captured from another planet to find out information on them. He would spend hours poring over the reports that had been brought back like he was obsessed. To be honest, he was intrigued by the society they had established and the wealth and status they had acquired. Even in this day and age his people were still considered barbarians but they were like diplomats. Well, if the species of this universe wanted them to be barbarians, they would get their wish. Those pathetic white-tailed saiyans were long overdue for a little vengeance. He sent for his son as he devised a plan.
When Prince Vegeta arrived in the King's chambers he was surprised at the jovial mood his father seemed to be experiencing. “My son, come, I have great news.” Then he handed him the reports and said, “Do you see the mockery those deserters have made of our species? If they are allowed to continue like this they will ruin the name of saiyan across the universe. So, I have decided that we should conquer them and show the real strength of our army. It will show the Universal Alliance that no one can save them from real saiyans.”
“Sounds like a great plan,” Prince Vegeta agreed. “How do you propose we go about taking them down? I would suggest that we execute the attack with minimal casualties on our side so we will seem even more victorious.”
“I like your train of thought,” the King replied. “In fact I have already begun working on a plan that would achieve that goal. My plan is that we send in someone undercover that would be able to send back reports so that we could know exactly where and when to strike to hit them hardest.”
“Let me do it,” the Prince insisted. “I would be the perfect undercover operative and I believe that I could easily blend in with the other saiyans. As a saiyan of royal blood, I would be the perfect candidate and I would blend in perfectly as a member of their society.”
“Excellent, starting tomorrow you may begin organizing the military just make sure commander Vespa is in charge of the main fleet. We will need her leadership skills supporting you and it will look good to have your future bride leading a pack into battle alongside of you. It will be a true merger of power and military expertise when the two of you are wed next spring. I am sure that your offspring will be a credit to our kingdom.”
“Yes, my King, I am sure that the next Prince will truly be a fearless and excellent warrior. All your other commands will be done as you requested,” he replied. Then he bowed and exited the room to begin planning a very large and very crucial battle with his top commanders. This would be a massive military operation in more ways than one. If he had his way there would not only be a leadership change in the Silver Moon Kingdom but on Planet Vegeta as well. It was his time to be King and this attack would be the perfect stepping stone to that honor, no one would question his assuming the throne if the King happened to perish in the battle against the Silver Saiyans. Within a few weeks he planned to have everything set up for his new role as King and to be on the Silver Moon observing the weaknesses of their enemy.
On the Silver Moon Kingdom a young courtier named Okalina was dressed up in one of the princesses' gowns and tiaras waiting for the princess to return. She was the princesses' lady in waiting and body double, unfortunately the princess believed that having a body double meant that she could leave Okalina in her place and run off whenever she felt like it. Her majesty had a lesson with her tutor in a matter of moments and the tutor happened to be one of the few people who would instantly realize what they were doing as soon as she laid eyes on Okalina; as she had in the past. Just in time, Princess Buruma appeared on the balcony and said, “See, I told you I would be back.”
“Yes, you did return as you promised but you have only a few precious moments to dress and arrive at your lesson or Lady Sauer will know you have been making trouble of some sort.”
“Oh, let that biddy think whatever she wants,” Buruma replied as she quickly discarded the boy's trousers and assorted clothing she had donned during her little adventure outside. Then she quickly wet a washcloth and began to wash her face while she continued her rant. “I am tired of everyone watching me like a hawk and giving me no freedom. Should I not be allowed to see a kingdom I will one day be Queen of?”
Okalina could not help but sigh in response. She and Buruma were of the exact same ages but sometimes she believed that Buruma willfully remained ignorant of the court's customs and shirked her responsibilities at an opportunity. “I suppose by saying you will one day be Queen, you have accepted the betrothal that your parents arranged?” Okalina commented. She could only hope that comment would be a good change of subject. The details of the princess's betrothal had only been finalized a few short months ago, long after what was considered to be appropriate, and she had been matched with one the most handsome and established men in the kingdom. His name was Lord Kerit and Okalina could not deny that if he had not been selected by the Royal Kingdom for her charge and friend Lady Buruma, she would have set her cap for him herself during the fall season. Oh well, what was done, was done, and he apparently had agreed to the betrothal himself so there would have obviously been no chance at all for her anyway.
“Of course I have not accepted their betrothal,” Buruma responded haughtily. “I intend to fight against it with every breath in my being. Why should I marry a saiyan I barely know?” she replied. Okalina could see now that this subject seemed to be upsetting her as well because you could visibly see the fur on her brilliant white tail was sticking straight up on end. “My parents are bound to change their minds at the last minute anyway.”
“Lady Buruma, your parents have stated unequivocally that your marriage to the man of their choosing is a requirement for you to be Queen. You must remember also that your parents were brought together by an arranged marriage and I am sure they see their own happiness as an endorsement for the process as a whole.” Buruma simply huffed and walked out of the room under her own steam towards the room where her tutor would be awaiting her. Okalina wondered if there would ever be anyone able to talk some sense into that girl.
As she walked into her father's study she saw Lady Sauer sitting in a chair and laughing with her father, King Letiz. “Why hello, your highness,” she called out. Then she stood up to curtsey formally before resuming her seat.
“What are you doing here father?” she asked. “I was unaware that you would be a part of my lessons in some way.”
“Well my child, I was having a discussion with Lady Sauer here and we decided that you should begin preparing for your season. Of course unlike most of the young ladies you will not be looking for a husband, but it will be a great opportunity for the courtiers and the kingdom to see its future king and queen together. Buruma bit her lip. She wanted to speak up, to challenge his plans for her, but as opinionated as she was, she was still scared to talk back to her father. Of course there was also the issued of Lady Sauer's presence, who was not only her teacher, but the mother of her betrothed. So, she kept her mouth shut and endured hours of coaching on posture, etiquette, and how to let her husband to be do all the talking.
Later that night, she was once again isolated in her room and watching the life of the capitol city from her balcony, which luckily, was high enough to see over the palace walls. She yearned to go out there and experience life the way other people in her kingdom did, to be free of all the expectations on her for just a little while. She looked back at Okalina who was sitting on her bed doing needlework. “Oka, do you think you could-,”
“No, No, Definitely not,” Okalina cut her off. “You should know by now that I know there is trouble when you call me Oka.” She watched Buruma sigh and resume her lungful gaze into the outside world. “Look, I believe you and I should both be retiring for the night. Tomorrow is a long day and there will be much to do.” Then she gathered up her things and left the room. Once she was gone Buruma climbed into bed and closed her eyes hoping at least her dreams could take her away.
