*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Trunks flew through the air, tears trailing him. For what seemed like hours, he glided through the air, thinking of what had happened. "I can't believe I was going to propose to her," he thought. The stubborn saiyan didn't want to go home and face his parents, so he just wandered around the city, no destination in mind.

Trunks felt exhausted after a while, so he landed in a small forest and sat down near a tree. The lavender-haired man put his head in his hands and quietly cried over the girl he had once loved. 'Why does it have to be like this? Great, now I'm crying like a baby.'

Soon, it started to rain. Trunks shivered and wrapped his jacket tightly around him. 'Damn it, I can't believe my luck today,' he thought. He was near the Son house, but it was very late and he didn't want to bother them with his pathetic personal life. Trunks sighed. 'I guess the only thing left to do is to sleep…' And he did just that, but he wouldn't be sleeping for long…

*******

Pan woke up with a start. She sat up groggily and looked around, trying to find what had woken her up. Pan was usually a sound sleeper, but that night, something interrupted her sleep. Then she noticed something unusual. There was a familiar ki not far from her house. The quarter-saiyan got up and looked out the window to see the pouring rain.

Pan squinted in concentration as she tried to identify the ki. She gasped softly as she finally recognized it.

Trunks.

Pan wondered what he was doing outside in the rain when she remembered her conversation with Marron earlier.

Ring, Ring!

Pan picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Sniff. H-h-ello? Is Pan there?"

"This is she. Marron, is that you? What's wrong?"

"Sniff. Yeah, sniff, it's me. I just broke up with Trunks."

"Really? Why?" 'Who would be dumb enough to break up with Trunks? Oh yeah, Marron,' Pan thought. She had despised Marron when she started to date Trunks because she had loved him for as long as she could remember.

"Remember, sniff, I really like Goten, so I decided to try things out with him…"

"No, you never told me about that. You probably told Bra." Great. Now there were two girls she knew that liked her uncle. It was sickening.

"Oh…Well, I really like Goten…sniff…and I had to break up with Trunks…and I never thought it would hurt this much…sniff."

Pan was beginning to feel sorry for Marron. "Did you tell him about Goten? What did he say?" She was getting more curious by the minute.

"No…sniff…I didn't get a chance to tell him. After I told him I wanted to break up, he said…sniff…that he had loved me and that I was his world to him…sniff…but that I ruined it all…sniff…then he left."

"Wow, and you didn't even tell him about Goten…"

"You're not helping, Pan."

"Am I supposed to help you? I thought your best friend was Bra!"

"Well, she's out of town right now and I need someone to talk to!" Marron was starting to get mad now.

"Oh, so when your best friend's here, you ignore me, but when she out of town, you suddenly want to talk to me! If you want to talk to someone, then talk to your parents, or Goten, or someone else that's not me!"

"I meant I wanted to talk to someone my age!"

"Well, I'm not exactly your age, am I?"

"Argh! Pan, all I wanted was to talk to someone that would help me feel better! I guess that it was a big mistake to call you! You need to stop acting like a kid and start acting like an adult, Pan!!" And with that, Marron hung up.

"What?!?" Pan looked at the receiver in her hand. How dare she! Who was she to tell her how to act? Pan humphed and started to call Trunks to see how he was feeling.

When Pan had called Trunks' home, no one was there. After that, she called everywhere, trying to find Trunks, but he was nowhere to be found. She really wanted to talk to him to see if he was all right, so, forgetting to change, she flew out her window in her nightgown to help her best friend.

*******

He got down on one knee. "Marron, I've loved you all of my life. You are my heart and soul, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

"Oh, Trunks!" Marron exclaimed. "Of course I will!"

Trunks smiled widely and slipped the diamond ring on her finger. They both stood up and kissed.

"Trunks? Trunks!"

"Huh?"

"Trunks! Wake up!" Pan shook Trunks' shoulder. "Man, he's a heavier sleeper than me!"

Trunks' sapphire eyes fluttered open. He looked around, squinting through the rain. "Pan…?"

"Hi! I was around the neighborhood and decided to stop by," Pan gave him a little smile.

Trunks wasn't amused. "Pan, what are you doing here? How'd you find me?" He eyed the clothes she was wearing. Her nightgown was clinging to her body because of all the rain. 'Man, you can almost see right through that nightgown…" he thought. His body was starting to react to his thoughts when he snapped out of his daze. "No!" he scolded himself. "She's way younger than me, and I just broke up with my girlfriend!"

Pan put her hands on her hips. "Hmph. That's what I get for trying to help my friend? No "hi" or "what's up"? I thought you were nicer than that, Trunks."

Trunks sighed and looked down at his hands. "Sorry. Something…happened, and I just want to be alone right now."

The determined Pan wasn't going to let him off that easy. "Tell me what's wrong," she said as she sat down next to him. Pan already knew what was bothering Trunks, but she pretended not to because she wanted to hear what Trunks would say about the whole situation.

Trunks looked at Pan's dark and mysterious eyes. "They look just like Marron's…" After that thought, old feelings started to rise (about Marron), and he gave in. "Alright, I'll tell you…but can we go to your house or something. It's kind of wet out here."

Pan chuckled. "Come on, we'll go talk in my room," she stood and helped Trunks up. The chilly weather finally got to her and she started to shiver.

Trunks saw her shiver and gave her his jacket. "Here, I won't need it," he said. The jacket was soaking wet, but at least it could keep her a little warmer for now.

She took his jacket and slipped it on. "Thanks." After Pan put on Trunks' jacket, the two Saiyans took off into the air and headed for the Son home.

*******

"I can't believe your parents didn't wake up," Trunks whispered. He and Pan had both changed into dry clothes after they arrived in Pan's room. Pan didn't have clothes for Trunks, so she decided to get some extra clothes from Goten's old room. They made a lot of noise, but Gohan and Videl still slept soundly.

Pan giggled. "They're really sound sleepers. I think it's something in the Saiyan blood." She started to put all the wet clothes in one pile inside her closet.

"I can believe that, but what about Videl? She's obviously not a Saiyan."

"She has to get used to sleeping like that, my dad inherited Grandpa Goku's snoring abilities," Pan said as she picked up a brush and started to run it through her sopping wet hair.

Trunks smirked. "I don't suppose that you inherited those abilities?" He sat down on Pan's bed.

"I'm not going to answer that little question, Trunks. You probably would've known from all those times I spent the night with Bra. Besides, I thought we were going to talk about you," she said, poking him in his chest.

Trunks' face fell. Why did Pan have to mention that when they were having a fun time together? He sighed and looked down at his hands. His break-up with Marron was the last thing he wanted to talk about now. Couldn't she see that?

Pan sat down next to him. "Come on, Trunks. Tell me what happened. Pleeeease?" She put on her puppy dog eyes and stuck out her bottom lip. "I'm curious."

Trunks got one look at Pan and wanted to laugh out loud. The sight of her like that was hilarious to him, but he wasn't in a laughing mood. He didn't laugh, but he gave in once again and started to talk. "Where do I start?"

The sixteen-year-old looked him in the eye. "I don't know, how about…how it all started?"

The demi-saiyan sighed, looked up at the ceiling, and started to talk. Trunks talked while Pan listened for what seemed like an eternity. Pan took in every word and while Trunks told her everything.

He talked about how he met Marron. Their first date. Their first kiss. How they broke up for a week because of a huge argument. He talked with passion and love in his voice, up until he reached the part when he got into the whole proposing "fiasco". The passion in his voice turned into remorse, the love turning into hate. Pan had moved slightly away from him when he started to talk about their dinner together earlier that night, his voice was so harsh. But then something cracked inside of him. He stopped talking and put his face in his hands. Pan scooted closer to him and was shocked to see that he was crying.

"Trunks…?"

The prideful saiyan sniffed. He had never cried in front of anyone before, and he wasn't about to start now. He wiped his eyes with his sleeve and looked up at his companion. He tried to stop them, but it was not in his control anymore. The tears kept on falling from his cerulean eyes.

Pan didn't say a word. She just put her arms around his broad shoulders and squeezed tightly, trying to confront the man. She knew what it felt like to have your heart broken by someone you loved for so long. Unfortunately, she didn't know how to mend your heart, she had been trying to do that for years, but to no avail. She rocked back and forth, holding the man that she loved for so long, never noticing the tears that came out of her own eyes.

Then, without any warning at all, she did something that would change both their lives drastically.
