Chapter 9: The Bad Death of Son Goten

Gohan and Goten had been sense-watching the battle from their mesa-top hideout since it began. From Goku's transformation to a third-level Super Saiyajin, to the Advent of Furita, to Goku blacking out from the force of the Kamehameha, it all came down to this.
"Gohan!" Goten cried. "We have to help daddy! He's gonna get hurt!"
"There's nothing we can do now, pal," Goten whispered. Tears filled his eyes and his throat locked up as he thought of what was going to happen. "Dad's a lot stronger than either of us. If he lost, neither of us can do a bit of good. It's - -" Gohan stopped abruptly and looked back to the remains of the city.
Furita was charging a devastating attack! A shot with the amount of force he was putting behind it could easily wipe out everything on the planet if allowed to strike. Gohan processed this in under a second, giving just the amount of time needed to formulate a statement befitting the situation at hand.
"Shit..."
********
That one word was all Goten needed to decide what to do. Gohan had only sworn twice in all the years Goten knew him, both of which were times right before great destruction or pain. Gohan said there was no way they could help daddy, but Goten could D-A-M-N sure try. It was time to put the flying lessons to work.
Goten's ki flared around his heels. He was gone before Gohan knew what had happened. All Goten could think of on the way back was how everyone said there was no way he could help, that he would only make things worse if he tried, that he would only get in the way. But they'd all see, soon enough, that a child could save the world in dire times.
There! In the distance, he saw a faint purple glow. Daddy's ki was gold, so this had to be Furita. He was the bad man doing all this!
Goten landed near the scene, behind a large pile of rubble. He tried to sense Goku, but his ki signature was gone, making fearful thoughts run through Goten's head faster than he could think coherently. He had always been able to sense Goku's ki, wherever he was in the world, after Gohan taught him how to sense ki. Goku's ki was always there, like a security blanket, reassuring him that all was right with the world. But now, his ki was gone. So now, Goten would have to rely on his five original senses to find daddy.
Suddenly, Goten picked up on something. A small groan, very quiet but unmistakably Goku's, came from the other side of the mountainous debris pile. Goten made a mad dash around the side and, lo and behold, there was Goku, sprawled out on the ground, semi-propped up against the great pile of remnants. He wasn't moving, barely breathing. Small amounts of energy left his hands, possibly residue from the Kamehameha. Blood oozed from every visible orifice.
Frantically, Goten searched for Goku's ever-present sensu bag. There couldn't be much time left with him losing blood and energy like that. Goten panicked. The bag wasn't anywhere! Under debris, in Goku's hand, floating in midair, it was nowhere!
Then he remembered, he took it from Goku at Dende's Lookout, wanting to try one. He'd left it up there, leaving it on a tea table.
"Baka!" he screamed at himself. "Baka Goten! Daddy's gonna be hurt really bad and it's your fault!"
He had completely forgotten about the little piece of Hell floating above him, charging a massive strike against Earth.
"... HAAAAAAA!!!" Furita bellowed from three thousand feet above the destruction...
... and reality returned to young Goten. He snapped his head up, wiped the tears from his eyes and saw a thin energy beam, heading straight toward him and Goku. Goten knew that now it was put-up-or-shut-up time. He had two options. One: He could drag Goku to a safer location, most likely killing him in the process and leaving Earth wide-open for Furita's attack. Two: He could take the shot himself, saving Goku and the planet, dying in true kamikaze style.
Before he could make a conscious decision, Goten leapt into the air, ki blazing. As he flew full-tilt into the path of the ray, he realeased all of the pain, rage, and hate he felt that day in one, blood-curdling cry.
"DON'T HURT MY DADDY!!!"
********
Goten's cry echoed for miles, bouncing off of the Senshi Mountains, traveling through Chibi Valley, across the Golden Plains, to the mesa-top shelter where he was not fifteen seconds ago. Goten turned back to smack Goten for revealing their hiding place, but he found, slightly later than one could hope, that he was gone.
"Kami, I'm a fool." he muttered. "I can't turn my back on that little kuso for one minute." Finally, Gohan was able to put two and two together.
Goten screaming + Goten no longer in sight = …
Goten had left to help dad! Gohan couldn't believe it, but it was the only logical explanation. The boy had absolutely no idea what he was getting himself into. In the blink opf an eye, Gohan was halfway to what was left of the city, but it was too late.
********
Goten steeled himself in the path of the blast and spoke a small, silent prayer. "Kami, let this work."
********
Furita's howls of insane laughter filled the dusty, smoky midday air as he awaited the destruction of one of the Sons.
********
Time seemed to slow as Gohan watched the purple ray of destruction come ever closer to his baby brother's body. He simply floated in the air, seemingly bolted to the sky, unable to help in any way, form, or fashion.

The Demon Ken finally struck home and Goten's hopes were realized. The attack stopped when it reached it him, but he still had to suffer its results.
The attack burrowed into Goten's throat and ceased to be a direct attack. The ray bulged to about three inches across and hollowed out. Feeling his attack strike, Furita initiated the second phase of the attack.
Furita directed the energy remaining in his tail down the makeshift straw. Goten's body, as it was, could not contain the energy, so he began to expand... in all directions. Within moments, Goten had become a living caricature of a morbidly obese circus dwarf. His gi was torn to shreds as his uncontrollable growth split its seams.
Furita watched with glee as Goten's body stretched to impossible proportions. It wasn't Kakarotto, but at least it was one of his brats. And as an added bonus, he now knew that his improvised attack worked! He quickly grew bored with this sight, however, and funneled one last bit of energy into Goten's grotesquely misshapen body. And oh! What a sight it was!
Furita laughed with psychotic glee as what could only vaguely be recognized as a humanoid form finally began to tear under the strain of the massive ki addition. Goten uttered a low, guttural howl as long, crimson gashes appeared in his sides, showering the carnage below with blood, gastric juices, and other assorted bodily materials. He could feel the gulleys in his body lengthening, his vital organs, misshapen as they were from their own bloating, falling out as well. His final words were some no child, nay, no human being, should ever have to utter. "Avenge me, brother!"
Purple light began to emanate from the valleys that had been torn into his body. At last, Goten could withstand the torment no more. He cocked his head back and cried out to the heavens, a purple beam of light flying from between his lips. The beam got wider and wider, spreading his mouth open further and further, until it too began to tear from the pressure. Slits appeared in Goten's cheeks, allowing his jaw to drop further. A small crack appeared in the child's forehead, quickly becoming a massive rift. His cry became louder and louder, until it finally stopped. It is rather hard to scream when one's head has been torn apart from within. But the beams of light continued to fly from his body.
The beams came together and formed one large, vertical ray of light, extending skyward, through Goten's neck, down through his torso and out again, reaching the ground. The beam expanded until it completely engulfed Goten's floating corpse.
Slowly, the beam faded from view. When it was all over, all that was left of Goten were a few specks of ash, led away on the wind to some distant part of the planet, never to be seen again.

Wow, was this a long chapter or what? Okay, I need ideas for the next chapter. I know what the ending will be, but I need one more battle before I can begin the ending. Please give ideas in the reviews. Thanks.
