Chapter 12

The warrior and the musician walked into Tris and Jen's bedroom to discover two decidedly slumbering females lying back-to-back on the large bed. Jen was sleeping on her side, her considerable belly framed by extra pillows, and snoring away. Lluvia was curled into a modified fetal position facing in the opposite direction. Her boots, jacket, and MAARCU had been removed before she'd crawled into the bed next to her friend. Bardock uncovered Lluvia, who mumbled an unintelligible protest at the intrusive loss of warmth and kept reaching for the covers in her sleep. Tristan gave Bardock a silent grin and a thumbs-up as the Saiya-jin carefully picked up her limp form and departed the room. Her sleepy breaths remained steady and sure as he carried her back to her own quarters in his arms.

Once he laid her down on her own bed, he stood for a moment to relish the sight of the formerly kinetic female as she slept; her intense slumber akin to that of an extremely weary child. Any thought of rousing her for a little late night pinch and tickle fled from his thoughts while he watched the slow rise and fall of her quiet breaths. After removing his scouter and shucking off most of his clothing except for his leggings, he carefully positioned himself in spoon fashion behind her on the bed and pulled her protectively into him while his furry tail coiled companionably around both their bodies. Her gentle warmth and scent enveloped his senses, sending him into a profoundly dreamless state within a few breaths' time.

Savoring the half-sleeping, half-waking feeling surrounding her like a cozy protective blanket, Lluvia yawned. The resultant sound came out of her mouth like a kitten's soft mewling.

What a delicious feeling! Mmm! I could stay this way forever!

During the night, she had turned over and had contentedly nestled into the warm curve of Bardock's body. She buried her face into the hollow of his shoulder and collarbone, lost in the pleasure of nuzzling and inhaling his unique scent. It'd been such a long time since she'd felt so safe, so protected! It would be so easy to just let it all go in his arms! A small sigh emerged as she detected the change in his breathing pattern from deep sleep to the transitory, half-awake level.

Bardock pried his eyes open to look down at the bright head resting so trustingly in his embrace, like it had always belonged there.

Amazing, he thought to himself. I haven't enjoyed such a restful night's sleep in ages! Come to think of it, since I first met her, I haven't had any more clairvoyant episodes, either! I wonder what kind of magic she's managed to work on me for thatto happen?

While the questions raced around in his mind, her eyes came up to gaze wonderingly at him. His early morning tumescence gave her his unambiguous answer as he pulled her in closer to him and began to slowly press his hips into her pliant body. His mouth came down to gently taste the resident sweetness of her lips. Her hands found their way into the abundance of dark hair at the back of his head, running the strands between her slender fingers. Groaning with a burgeoning need, he began to fumble and tear at the confining bustier's laces as their breaths grew more insistent and ragged.

At that precise moment, an audible mechanical beeping intruded upon their heated groping.

"SHIMATTA!" growled an irritated Bardock.

"Yeah, what you said!" agreed an equally frustrated Lluvia. "Bardock, I think the sound's coming from your scouter this time!"

"Don't you dare move from this bed, woman! That's an order!" Lluvia gave him a sexy smile in response as she enticingly stretched out lengthwise on the sheets.

"I'd like nothing better, Saiya-jin." Her seductive purr nearly caused him to blatantly disregard the insistently beeping summons. He jumped off the bed and picked up his scouter unit, holding it up to his ear.

"Bardock here!" he barked in to the microphone.

"Commander! You are to report immediately to central documentation."

"What the bloody hell for?" Kami, but I hate bureaucrats!

"It seems that we do not have a copy of your last Planet Trade assignment on file and we need you to file the report ASAP!"

"Fine, I'll give it to you now!"I can't believe this is happening to me!

"No, Commander Bardock. I'm afraid you'll have to come in person to do that!"

He turned to meet Lluvia's questioning gaze and wrung his hands impotently in the air. She groaned, muttering something under her breath about "a friggin' conspiracy".

"Fine, damn it! Bardock out!" He pressed the OFF button and tossed the offending scouter back onto the discarded pile of clothes. "You heard?"

"Uh-huh! Sorry, Bardock, but I suppose it's just as well! According to my wrist chronometer, I've got just enough time to wash up and head out with my group to the arena for rehearsals." She sighed heavily.

Just as she slid off the bed and was heading toward the bath, he grabbed her nearest arm and spun her back into his embrace.

"Tonight?" His earnest expression made her break out into a giggle at the sight.

"Yes, tonight!" A brief, but intense kiss would have to suffice until they could pick up from where they left off.
