A WARRIOR'S PROMISE
Prologue
He stood shivering in the rain, black clouds overhead thundered in a tremendous show of pity as the young man sank to his knees and pummelled the ground with his fist. Tears fell fast and furiously down his youthful yet extremely drained face, there was no use for shame or pride here, but only of anguish. He had been preparing himself for two years, two very long years but nothing could prepare him for this kind of pain, it was worse than any kind of physical beating or mental mind games inflicted upon him, and no doubt it would last for far longer.
It was hard to believe that just moments before he had held her in his arms, whispering words of comfort that he no longer felt or believed in. He could see it in her face, her blue aqua eyes that once sparked with hope and love but now of age and defeat, that she herself never believed him but for once he allowed his whole being to co-operate with the lies he told and he could tell that she was ready to accept them or maybe she just didn't have the will to fight against them.
But in the end it had all been worth it, she had gone to rest with that hope and, as she spoke her last words and her very existence leaped from this plane of existence to a peaceful after life he knew it was the right thing to do, she would finally be with her friends and family and the man she loved. Those last moments he would always remember as if it was inscribed in the fore front of his mind, even now as the ground cracked with his sheer force he could see her still…
“Trunks”
“Mother” he replied as he moved closer to where she lay on the bed and peered down at her face
Her voice was low and hoarse and her small body shock as she spoke “I'm sorry”
He looked at her and saw the once bright spark extinguish as they spoke “Its ok mother, its time”
She laughed lightly “It's never the right time to die son”
He shook his head lightly in a bid to clear his thoughts and stop the tear that were threatening to be let loose. ”But it's the right time to be at peace” he paused slightly “your battle has long since been won”
“But my time with you has not ended” her voice began to break “I am not ready to leave you- and damn that grim reaper to Hades for trying” she finished with a hint of angry and annoyance
He turned and stared at her, she was no sayian and yet here she was attempting to fight death for him. Call him selfish but he wished she would win the battle, deep down he knew that he must let her go and so he forced himself to begin the lies that he had so often told her through the years.
“It's alright mother, we'll have our time. It time with you to be with them-with him you don't have to stay for me anymore. I've ridded myself of that hate, it wasn't healthy. I know you always will be with me, and I will always be with you, but I beg of you let me go mother. Its time we both had our peace” he finished sombrely
Tear streamed down her aged face and for a second he could see the spark back in all its glory but it quickly dissipated like a cigar being carelessly stub out after a brief session of enjoyment. “But will you really be at peace in a world half destroyed and no means of repair”
His eyes fell to the floor “I will be at peace mother, because I know that your are”
“Trunks” she said as she sobbed and reached out a hand to touch his cheek “You have had to live a hard life, without the love of a true family but you survived. Your would have made your father- of this time proud and no doubt in the other world he would have heard of your good deeds, we will both be waiting for you in the other world”.
A tear began to trickle slowly down his face as his mother spoke her last words, and almost like an echo he could hear his father voice “You have a warriors spirit, a noble heart and pride and compassion in the right place, you would have made a good prince. But promise me this…………”
…. And so he had giving her a promise “I give you a warriors promise” he whispered as he looked down at the ground filled with rain drops or maybe tears and after a long time he truly saw himself. Not as the warriors that saved two worlds but as the little boy that lost both a father and a best friend, one that had been forced to grow up to quickly and in doing so had lost pieces of himself.
Trunks finally retired to his small capsule cor. house he could no longer go back to the place where he and his mother once resided, for one he hadn't the strength or courage and two it had been decimated during his rage (after of course he had taken his mother out) . He half cursed himself for his rash behaviour and half agreed that that was what needed to be done he needed to stop living in the past. Slowly he walked over to the single bed in the corner and sat on it, what was he suppose to do now. He could sleep but sleeping could only fill up so much of his time, he could invent but he had lost his desire, or he could fight… he laughed at the bitter irony of that. Whatever he did it always came down to fighting- a sayian thru and thru, but could a man made of mere flesh and blood go on fighting forever, he didn't think so. With no clear path of the road ahead he did what anybody would do, wait till morning and then do nothing.
The first thing Trunks noticed when he awoke was that it was dark and that he felt totally numb inside and for a while he lay there confusion emulating from his every thought. Last nights memories were like a distant world, a collection of nightmare patched together to form his deepest horrors, but like anything that was patched together the seams that held them would begin to unravel and so it did and he remembered that he was alone.
Suddenly a voice cut thru the silence and he just knew things would become a hell of a lot worse
“Still feeling sorry for yourself”
“Yes” was Trunks harsh response
“Up you get we have work to do”
Trunks made a slight move pulling the cover tightly over his head
“That's not going to make me go away” when no response was made he sensed the agitation in the persons voice “Get up, I have a deal to offer you”
Trunk gruffly mumbled a reply “Can't you see I'm mourning”
“Oh is that what your doing, it seems to me your wallowing in self pity”
“Get lost” hissed Trunk a sudden angry rising from his chest
“No look here, I have a deal to offer you and I'm not leaving. Instead of being happy for your mother your here mourn-“
As soon as Trunks heard the word mother the anger shoot out of him shooting him into action as he grabbed the speaker's throat “Don't you speak about my mother like that”.
If Trunks thought the action or the harsh tone would scare them he was sadly mistaken as the person slowly grabbed a hold of his wrist and easily removed it from there neck “I will not baby you, and don't think for a second that you frighten me” the speaker said in an eerily calm yet stoic tone ”I have something to offer you, and you will listen even if I have to pin you down to do it”
Trunks eyed the person as best as he could do in this darkness it would be so easy to just knock them threw a wall, but he had enough violence to last him a lifetime. “What is it” he relented
“I'm offering to take you on an all dimensional trip to find you another place to live. It's a heroes package…”
“I'm no hero”
“I can see that” they added distastefully “Now are you coming”
“I-“
The speaker hesitated slightly before continuing “If you come with me you can revive you lost family and friends”
Trunks head snapped sharply up and he stared directly in the direction of the speaker “How”
“If you come with me, I will tell you-trust me”
“I don't trust anyone”
“Fine than have a little faith…ok I make you a warrior's promise that I give you no lie”
A warrior's promise thought Trunks as he recalled last night, he didn't know whether he should believe them, but he felt compelled to do so.

A/n: yep thats the first chapter, and sorry if you find Mirai Trunks a little OC, but i thought in this chapter you would see the darker side of Trunks, (i mean his been through a lot), that way you can see a progression in the character as the story grows.
any ideas on alternative worlds for the other character is welcome!
