Chapter 2: Who are you?
"Speech" `Thoughts' *Dreams*
I could hear the doctors and nurses talking like I wasn't there. Their conversation was interesting so I didn't open my eyes just yet.
"She's lost so much blood that I don't know why she's still alive."
"Yes but her missing blood is being replaced by an unknown acidic substance. We've done some tests but we still don't know what it is or why it's replacing her blood."
"Should we alert the government and have them send some doctors?"
"No absolutely not! You have no idea what is going on and I don't need this taken away from me. If we can figure out what's happening to her we can get a large sum of money form the government and more patients. Think of it, the first medical team to solve a mystery in over twenty years!"
I couldn't stand it anymore and opened my eyes, but the room was empty. I sat up and felt something rip. My hands had been restrained and they had tied me down. They were right about my blood being replaced, I was tired and my veins felt like there was liquid fire flowing through them. I couldn't stay so I got out of bed and searched for something suitable to wear. I felt a tug on my left wrist and found an i.v supplying saline to my body. I quickly pulled it out and used the clear tape that held it in place to stop the bleeding. The room was completely empty except for a few extra gowns so I put another one on backwards to cover my rear. The door wasn't locked so I snuck out the windows were dark but the hallway was lit sparsely with fluorescent lights. I hid in the shadows as I made my way down the hall. I passed a lounge where I could hear the doctors talk about me. They sounded exactly like the ones I was hearing in my room. I couldn't have heard them from there could I? I listened to what they said as I hid under the big window facing the hall next to the door.
"Her blood is nothing like anything we've ever seen. It doesn't match any type that we have. We could get major money just exposing it to the public. Think of the headlines, "Local hospital discovers new type of blood unknown to modern medicine.""
A round of laughter echoed down the hall.
"Well she's not going anywhere we've got her so sedated that the restraints aren't necessary I highly doubt that she will wake up until the end of the week. That gives us plenty of time to get what we need and send it in." A female voice happily chirped.
`These aren't good doctors; all they care about is money.' I shook my head and nearly lost my balance. `Note to self, don't shake head and find decent clothing to escape'.
I didn't bother to peek and see what they looked like as I continued down the hall. I found a room marked storage and let myself in. I found a few extra pairs of nurse's uniforms and some regular clothes so I changed and hid my gowns under a box in the back. I left and walked further to a room marked monitoring station. There was nobody there but I noticed a purse hidden under the main desk. I "borrowed" her money and left before I was noticed. I didn't take the elevator and soon wished I had. The stairs were steep and I was on the sixth floor. I made it to the ground level and used an emergency exit to slip into the blackness of night and into the safety of freedom.
There was only one clothing shop open and it was only a block away from the hospital. I slipped in and looked around. There weren't many people in there and the attendant walked up to me.
"Do you need help" She asked looking at me oddly.
"Yes, do you have anything in my size?" I asked looking down.
"Of course this way please." She seemed shocked at my comment but led me to the dressing rooms. "Wait here I'll bring you something to try on."
I looked in the mirror and nearly fell down. My body was thinner and had muscle tone. I was still deathly pale but my curves made the look fit. I couldn't believe it; I was actually kind of cute. My hair went to my shoulders and was still red and my eyes hadn't changed in color but they were slit like snakes. I was taller about 5'11" and looked to be about 15. `I can't be 15, I'm almost 18!' My mind shouted at me. I was shocked when a knock came from the door and an outfit was hanging over the top. Twenty minuets later and twelve outfits I finally found something that suited me. I was wearing a pair of low rise jeans that showed my navel and made me look older then what I had thought. My shirt was blue and clung to my curves like a second skin. I bought it and wore it right out of the store. To my amusement there was a salon a few doors down that was still open. A few hours later I was running low on cash but looked great. `They'll never recognize me now.' I thought as I looked at my golden highlights in the mirror as the cloth was taken off and shaken. The hairstylist had done a great job, she took off about five inches and the highlights were perfect. I didn't get my nails done but I didn't need to I was the total opposite of how I looked back home. I only had about thirty dollars left and was getting really hungry but needed to get away from that town. I got a bus ticket to West City because that's all I could afford. I got off of the bus at West City and walk around just as the sun was lighting the horizon. I had about ten bucks left and found an all night diner and had breakfast, a cheap breakfast that took the rest of my borrowed cash. I got a few odd glances because of my eyes. I didn't care because I was used to be looked at like a freak. Just as I was leaving I caught glimpse of a clock and saw that it was almost five in the morning. `I was never much of a morning person but I guess that I'll make an exception.' I needed to find a place to stay but I was sol for cash. Soon the sun would be up and I needed sunglasses. There was a drunken bum lying on the curb with a few dollars in change scattered next to him. I felt sorry as I took them but he wouldn't miss what he never had. I bought the cheapest pair of sunglasses I could find and still managed to get a copy of the morning paper. It was Sunday and the headline was about me. The article was about a patient that had broken her restraints and escaped from the hospital in Ginger town. The patient had also stolen over three hundred dollars in cash from a nurse's purse. I shook my head and got dizzy but didn't fall down. The classifieds were all looking for over qualified people who had degrees in things it would take forever to get. There was one that caught my eye it was looking for a maid to work at Capsule Corporation. I would be doing laundry and child care? I hated kids but I needed a place to stay and the money. So I took my last quarter and took a bus to Capsule Corp. It was only six in the morning but the lights were on, but the giant gate was closed. I saw a buzzer on the gate and pushed it.
"What do you want?" An angry voice yelled at me from the other end.
"I'm here because I read that you needed a maid." I managed to say.
"It's only six fifteen in the morning come back later." Then the speaker went dead. I saw that a camera was watching me so I tried not to look at it.
"What do you want?" This time a female voice yelled at me.
"I'm here for the job; I read in the paper that you needed a maid."
"It's more like nanny work." The voice replied.
"That's okay."
"All right." The voice said and this time the gate opened. "Come in and I'll show you around."
I carefully walked up to the door and knocked. It opened and Bulma was standing there looking tired. She had me follow her as she showed me the house.
"Trunks needs a nanny so I'm counting on you to take care of him." Bulma said.
"How old is Trunks?" I asked.
"He's about two months old." She looked at me. "Are you sure you can handle him."
"Sure, no problem. By the way, I'm Sara." I offered my hand and she shook it.
"I'm Bulma and if you need anything just ask."
"Thanks."
"Your hours are from six in the morning to nine at night." She said. "So you should get here a quarter to six so that I can tell you what needs to be done."
"All right, but do you know of any places nearby that are renting rooms?" I asked.
"Nope, no place near here why don't you have a place to stay?" She looked at me oddly.
"No, my parents kicked me out because of money troubles." I lied and because of my sunglasses she couldn't tell.
"Well I'll show you one of the guest rooms. Your hours will be twenty four seven, if you stay here."
"I don't mind." I lied and followed her.
"Who the hell is that?" I heard a gruff voice yell from behind me. I turned around just to see Vegeta standing there.
"Vegeta this is Sara the new nanny." Bulma stressed to him.
"She won't last a week." He said before walking off.
"Don't worry; he's like that just stay out of his way." Bulma looked at me again. "Breakfast is at eight and Trunks needs to be fed at eight thirty."
"All right." I said. Just as I finished a loud piercing crying started down the hall.
"Trunks is awake, come on I'll show you where he is."
I followed her and she opened a door a few doors down from mine. I walked in behind her and stared at the room. Trunk's room was bigger than my room back home. The walls were painted blue and there was a large window that faced the sunrise. His crib was made of steel and was a light purple. Bulma lifted him up and I saw that he did have purple hair and that adorable little hat. He stopped crying when he saw me and looked curious. Bulma handed him to me and he grabbed my sunglasses. I was shocked when he pulled them off and started to chew on them. He stopped when he saw my eyes but he didn't cry he just stared at me. I looked up but Bulma was gone, there was a digital clock on a nightstand next to the crib and it was only seven thirty.
"Well you get to eat in an hour so what shall we do until then?" I looked down at him and pulled my glasses from his mouth. They were ruined so I just threw them into the trash next to the changing table. I sat down in a rocking chair in the corner and just looked at him. He made a cooing sound and smiled, he looked so cute I could just hug him to death. I didn't I gave him a small hug and he wrapped his tail around my arm. I tired to unwrap it but he just started to cry so I stopped and comforted him.
