Summary: This monstrosity is for all the girls over at the Salon who seem to forget that I react to dares like Saiyans react to fight instigation. *smirks* Well, girls, you get more than you pay for, ne?

AWAKENING

He had no idea how the usual spar had turned into this.

One minute, he and Vegeta were gleefully beating the crap out of each other, the last two Saiyans reveling in the thrill of battle. The next, his long-time sparring partner crashed into his chest, slammed them both into a cliff, then...then kissed him.

Too surprised to really react, he opened his mouth to gasp, only to feel Vegeta's tongue slide in and touch his own. Really surprised, he couldn't really help but go with it, his brain -- never really reliable unless in the heat of battle -- shorting out at the heady taste flooding his senses.

Eager, less-than-gentle gloved hands removed his shirts, then traced over his chest and stomach, that insistent tongue thrusting against his own as their teeth clashed briefly. It was nothing like his kisses with ChiChi. Those were gentle and sweet; this was...powerful...and wild...and a little like going crazy.

And...dammit...he liked it.

His own hands joined the fray, his body as unwilling to stay behind here as on the battle field, and he stretched the neckline of Vegeta's bodysuit over the broad shoulders and down around the lithe waist. Living marble covered with the finest satin...hot and sweating and flexing at his touch. Incredible. He'd never known anything could feel like this!

"Kakarrrrrot...."

He shuddered as the husky, purring tone shivered up his spine. Had Vegeta ever said anything to him that wasn't either a shout, an insult, or a smart-assed remark? Had he ever used that tone before?

"Kakarrrrot...tell me you want this...."

"I do, Vegeta...."

He felt a smirk against his neck. "Good."

Those gloved hands left his skin for a moment, then returned, bare and hot and eager. He shivered as strangely soft fingers traced his skin, then lowered to his sash, their intent obvious. Wrapping his arms around the muscled, trim waist, he lowered his face into sweaty, musky spikes and quivered with anticipation.

Oh, yes...this....

"Goku-sa!"

A bucket of ice water dumped down his back couldn't have quelled his stirring arousal any faster than his wife's -- his wife's! -- shocked, hurt voice. Holy gods, what was he thinking??

Jumping out of Vegeta's grasp as if burned, he felt himself color from chest to hairline as he braced himself to meet ChiChi's eyes. Slowly, he drew his gaze from her feet to her hips to her chest...to her chin...and finally...to her face.

His heart stopped.

He'd half-expected the rage that so frequently filled those sparkling, dark orbs. The disbelief and...and betrayal there nearly gutted him.

"Chi...oh, Chi...I...I wasn't thinking...I didn't mean--"

"Goku, how...how could you?"

"I didn't! I mean...I was...but I wouldn't--"

"Shut up, Kakarot. You don't have to answer to her."

"You! How could you!?" Oh, there was the rage he'd expected. Her eyes fairly burned with it as she turned her fury on Vegeta. "I trusted you! Goku-sa trusted you! Bulma trusted you!"

The Prince snorted, crossing his arms across his bare chest. "That is your mistake, fool. But don't blame your precious Kakarot. I started this, and I intend to finish it. Leave while you still can, woman."

"Vegeta! Don't talk to her like that!"

"Goku, be quiet! I can take care of myself."

"Woman, you are interrupting. Leave now."

"He is mine, Vegeta! My husband! You have no claim on him!"

"ChiChi, please--"

"Ha! He is my subject, woman. He is mine."

"Vegeta--"

"I will fight for him, Vegeta. I love him and I won't give him up."

"ChiChi, don't--!"

A snort of vicious laughter. "Don't waste my time, woman. I could crush you with a single kick."

"Then bring it on! I won't lose him without a fight, Vegeta. I love him. You don't even care about him!"

"ChiChi, stop, please!"

He took a step toward her, only to be grabbed from behind and spun around to face blazing black eyes and a furious scowl.

"Kakarot, stay out of this! You are mine, and no human harpy will take you from me."

"Don't do this, Vegeta. Please!"

"Goku-sa?"

Craning his head around, he met her eyes, dismayed again at the hurt he'd put there, though the betrayal seemed to have vanished.

"Let it alone. I will fight for you. I love you."

"I love you, ChiChi. Please don't fight him!"

"Kakarot!"

Jerking his gaze back to Vegeta, he felt his heart twist at the hint of betrayal there. Did Vegeta actually care? Why was all of this happening?

"I will fight for you. I will have you."

"No...Vegeta...please...."

But he could only stand and stare as his two...loves?...squared off several yards away, Vegeta's face stony with resolve and ChiChi calm and unafraid. He should step between them. He should stop them. He should protect them somehow. That's what he did, right? Protect those he loved?

But his feet remained glued to the ground, even as Vegeta powered up with a yell and ChiChi lifted off the ground an inch or two and sailed toward him with a battle cry.

The collision rocked the ground, and he wanted more than anything to close his eyes, to not watch. While his wife hadn't fought in quite some time, she was an excellent fighter in her own right. She would get in a few hits, he had no doubt. But he also had no doubt that Vegeta would win by sheer strength and battle-savvy.

ChiChi was a fighter. Vegeta was a warrior.

And he couldn't bear to watch them.

"Stop."

The whispered word drifted off on the breeze kicked up by their battle, kicks and punches and their various grunts and cries smothering it until he wasn't sure he'd actually said it aloud. ChiChi wailed and hit the ground hard, then managed to flip to her feet and kick Vegeta in the chin. The Prince stumbled back a step, then grabbed her foot, lifted her into the air, and flung her, sending an energy blast after her.

Both impacted the ground, and the explosion rocked the countryside.

"ChiChi!"

But he still couldn't move, couldn't run to her, even as she pushed to her feet and levitated right back at him, her feet trailing a few inches above the ground as she yelled another battle cry. Apparently surprised at her resilience, Vegeta merely stared as she advanced, his head whipping to the side as her fist cracked into his jaw. Blood flew, and Goku winced at the other Saiyan's grunt of pain.

Retaliating with a sweeping kick, the Prince roared as she hopped over his leg and launched her own kick, and Goku lost track of the fight for a moment as they stirred up a concealing dust cloud. Muffled thuds and cut-off cries and grunts sounded from within, and then a merciful breeze finally blew away the dust to reveal Vegeta standing over the fallen ChiChi, energy blast glowing in hand and vicious triumph darkening his handsome face.

"Vegeta, NO!"

Now he could move. Now he charged across the broken turf, standing between his wife and his intended lover as the blast detonated against his blocking arms. His own energy flared dangerously as his rage and heartache culminated, and he screamed at the force of it.

Time froze, ChiChi crying out behind him, Vegeta's wide, shocked eyes before him, his own sudden illumination as to what and whom he wanted more than anything in the universe flaring to life within.

Too late. Always too late.

Time jump-started, and he was nearly deafened by the blast's report and the shouting and screaming as everything scorched and all three combatants were flung apart.

Sound retreated slowly until he realized it was only his heart thudding in his ears, and he blinked, momentarily unaware of who he was and why his shirt was smoking. It came back in a rush, and he pushed to his knees, desperately looking for his one and only love.

"Chi...no...."

He dropped to her side in an instant, pulling her into his arms and lap and holding her close. Pale and shivering and liberally splashed with her own blood, she was still as lovely and dear to him as she had been on their wedding day, and he could tear out his own heart for doing this to her.

"Chi, I'm so sorry."

A sob welled up in his throat, and he marveled a bit at the thought that he was about to cry. Had he ever cried before? He'd seen ChiChi cry a lot. He'd even seen Vegeta cry. But had he ever?

"I'm such an idiot...."

"Go...goku...sa...."

His heart dropped as she smiled softly and opened her eyes. Those lovely, dark orbs were dull with pain and likely concussion, but he saw the love there, and it sent his stomach falling after his heart.

"Did...did I win?"

"Oh, hai, Chi. You definitely won. It shouldn't have even been a contest."

Her smile widened, her eyes closing. "Good. Tell...tell Vegeta...I'm sorry, but I...I just couldn't lose you."

Swallowing hard, he sensed for Vegeta's energy, looking over at the bloody pile of muscle and torn clothing lying so far away. Concern flared, but he forced his attention back to the only thing that was important.

"I think...I nearly killed him, Chi. He's...he's dying."

Her eyes snapped open, and big, crystalline tears filled them. "No...no, Goku-sa! You have to...to heal him! He can't die!"

Holding her closer with both bewilderment and concern, he blinked. "But...but Chi, he tried to kill you."

"No...no...nonono...." And she sobbed, trying to cover her face with broken, bleeding hands. "No, Goku, you...have to save him. I'm dying...and you can't be...can't be left alone!"

"What?" Panicked, he held her closer still, nearly crushing her against him, despite her wounds. "Chi, you're fine! You're just...a little bruised! You can't die! I...I have a senzu at home!"

Still sobbing, she pressed her face against his chest. "I'm...I'm hurt inside, Goku-sa. You have to heal him. He's...he's so much stronger than me. You have to love him...so you won't...be...be alone." Shuddering with the force of her tears, she clawed at his arms, perhaps trying to get him to let go. "I love you...too much for that...Goku-sa! Please...save him...."

"No, Chi! I won't! I love you! I want you! I want only you, forever!"

And the tears came, burning and not at all cleansing, and he put two fingers to his forehead and concentrated on his sons' energy...

* * *

...and sat up in bed, a scream in his throat and his fingers to his forehead, his energy soaring, tears streaming down his face.

Reality slapped him across the face, and he flinched with the metaphorical blow, his head actually turning with it. Opening his eyes, he stared down at his sleeping wife, her slumber undisturbed by his thrashings, her sweet, lovely face peaceful with sleep.

Shuddering with the force of his realization, he merely stared and bit at his lip for a long moment, breathing in her sweet, light scent and feeling the warmth she generated.

ChiChi...I am such a fool....

He'd never so much as touched Vegeta that way, of course...but he'd considered it. And it was all the same, wasn't it? He might as well have, if he'd considered it seriously enough to dream about it, ne?

But never again. He knew now. No doubt plagued his mind.

The worst of the shudders faded, and he smiled softly and spooned up behind his wife, his love. Pretty ChiChi. The mother of his boys. The best cook in the universe.

And the most passionate woman he had ever met.

All things Vegeta would never, could never be....

"My beautiful Chi...."

His murmur in her ear made her stir, but she didn't awaken, so he flicked out his tongue, teasing the sensitive hollow just behind. She shivered and moved restlessly against him, reaching back to pull his arm around her. Grinning, he breathed over the tiny wet place he'd left, and she shivered again, her backside shifting against his groin.

"My beautiful, wonderful Chi...."

"Nnn...Goku-sa...sleepin...."

"Wake up, Chi. I've been dreaming of you, but I want to wake up now."

She made a soft, sexy sleep noise in her throat -- something between a grunt and a chuckle -- and his grin widened. Nipping his lips down her throat, he bit lightly at her collarbone and rubbed his stirring arousal against the soft curve of her backside.

"Lovely, beautiful, wonderful Chi...."

Pressing against the warm silk of her skin, he slid one arm under her and trailed the fingers of the other up her arm to her shoulder, around and down to her side, then along the underside of her breast, and she woke with a little gasp, arching back slightly, the fragile curve of her skull resting back on his shoulder.

"That's it, Chi. Wake up."

"Goku-sa...what...?"

Touching her only with his fingertips, he traced the contour of her breast, savoring the flawless texture of her skin, the soft but firm flesh of her breast, the pebble of her nipple, the sudden flare of goosebumps at his teasing touch.

"I love you, Chi. Always and forever. You know that, right?"

"I...I suppose...Goku-sa!"

Her voice hitched as he cupped that perfect mound of flesh fully, the arm he'd slid under her wrapping around her waist and pulling her close.

"Love you more than anything and anyone...."

"Oh!"

His free hand slid lower, fingers toying along the line of soft down over her groin, his lips busy against her neck and shoulder. Giving up his hold on her breast, he dipped a finger in her belly button briefly, grinning at the slightly breathless laugh the odd move caused, then smoothed his palm down over her hip and thigh, feeling the lovely tone there.

His beautiful, strong, passionate wife....

"Want you so bad, Chi...."

"Oh, hai, Goku-sa...."

And he touched her, cupping the curve of her groin and pressing his fingers inside, feeling the heat and the wet and her shudder and gasp, and he kissed the vulnerable nape of her neck, nosing into her fragrant, silken hair, and losing himself in the priceless, matchless feel of his love, his mate...his wife.

She cried out as he slid his fingers deeper, his thumb brushing over that spot he knew sent a burst of pure pleasure through her loins. Sure enough, she bucked her hips against his fingers, her small, strong hand clasping his wrist as the other ran into his hair and fisted in his spikes.

"Pretty Chi...my beautiful, beautiful Chi...."

"Goku...oh, gods, Goku...."

Again and again, he stroked that little nub of flesh, his fingers thrusting deep inside, his other hand again cupping her breast, his own breathing cycling higher as she cried out and arched and tugged his hair almost hard enough to hurt.

He held her as she shuddered and shivered, breathing in tearing gasps and little sobs, then slowly relaxed, a fine sheen of sweat musking the air. Rolling her gently to her back, holding her as carefully as he would the finest, most priceless china, he grinned down at the pleasure-hazed, dark eyes he so loved.

"Are you ready for me, pretty Chi?"

"Goku-sa...what's gotten into you?"

"Only you, Chi." He drew his thumb over her lower lip, then leaned down for a gentle, slow, and infinitely sweet kiss. "Only you forever."

She blinked in obvious confusion but made no protest as he shifted to lie between her thighs. "Sometimes, I don't understand you, Goku-sa."

Smiling, he slid a hand down her thigh and lifted her leg over his hip. "I know, Chi. That's all right, though. You love me, ne?"

Her eyes closed as he slid carefully inside, connecting himself to her in the best possible way. "Oh, hai, Goku-sa. I love you."

His own eyes rolled back into his head at the incredible feel, the intense heat and tightness, the perfect fit. "Good."

The ocean. Loving his beautiful Chi like this always reminded him of the ocean. The timeless rocking, the ebb and flow, the sense of weightlessness and perfection...it all held him in utter thrall, and he knew nothing could ever be so right.

"Love you...love you forever, Chi...."

"More...please...Goku...."

And he gave her more, moving with more purpose, raising his energy a bit until she cried out and bucked against him, disturbing their perfect rhythm for the barest of moments before it swept them away again, the full tide pulling them far out to sea, pulling them into the depths, washing him free of any thoughts of anyone else but his perfect woman, his only one.

"Gokuuuu-sa!"

"Hai, Chi. My name. Say it again...please...."

Her arms wrapped around him, her mouth hot and sweet against his. "Goku...." she whispered between desperate kisses. "Oh, hai, Goku!"

His energy broke over them in a nearly scalding wave, and she cried out, her body galvanizing below and around him, pulling him into her until they were one, a more perfect fusion than any other dance could devise. Her passion ignited his own, and he, too, cried out, thrusting again and again until the crest receded and he realized he'd crushed her to his chest and she likely couldn't breathe.

Reluctantly relaxing his grip, he lifted to one elbow and brushed a damp strand of hair away from her forehead. Her fingers still clutched his back, her eyes clenched closed, her even, white teeth clamped on her lower lip.

Smiling, he tugged at that hostage lip with a gentle forefinger until she let it go, then leaned down to kiss it, feeling it stretch in a smile.

"What was that all about?"

Feeling at ease with himself for the first time in weeks, he grinned down at his first and only love and flicked a finger at her nose, laughing when it wrinkled.

"I told you, Chi. I dreamed of you, and I wanted to wake up."

A soft laugh escaped her throat, and she stretched, then closed her eyes. "I'll never understand you, Goku-sa."

"I love you, too, Chi."
