Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ B.F.F ❯ BFF1 ( Chapter 1 )
B.F.F
She carefully entwined the lavender hair between her delicate fingers into a miniature braid. Her pink dress spread across her legs as she adopted a sitting position. With one hand she slid a strand of her blonde hair back behind her ear, which had escaped from her ponytail. Cautiously she laid the finished braid down onto the bedspread, along with several other tiny plaits amongst the lilac scattered hair. Leisurely, she let out a sigh and picked up a new portion of hair, skilfully knitting it together and threading it into an intricate pattern.
Penetrating through the bay window, the February afternoon sunshine had started to creep through the thick layers of clouds. It cast a golden glow and a deep warmth into the bedroom, making the room light up and intoxicate its inhabitants with a placid and peaceful feeling.
Marron glided the hair swiftly through her agile fingers, as she glanced out of the dome shaped window. Though she was deep in thought she could still hear the familiar clicking of the buttons of a keyboard as Goten played a computer game, and the swift turning of a page as Trunks lay before her, reading a glossy magazine. These were all too memorable sounds for her ears, that now they had become part of human nature to her and were easy to ignore.
She smiled to herself as she glanced back down at yet another braid she had completed in Trunks' hair. This is happiness to her. This is what she enjoyed doing, what made her days worthwhile. Nothing had changed for years and that's the way she liked it. Everyday she spent around her two best friends and that's the way it always had been, and how they had all promised it would stay.
With her free hands she fingered the small golden pendant hung around her neck. They each had one, though the boys never wore there's but instead took it with them wherever they went. When all three were placed together it formed the shape of a heart and completed a message engraved into it, reading `Best Friends Forever'. Marron's third was the part which read `Friends'.
"Maz are you alright?" Trunks' deep masculine voice broke through her track of thought, snapping her attention back to current matters. She had not realised it but she had been staring down at Trunks without taking the image in.
"Uh huh." She replied, blinking several times, but gradually meeting eye contact with him. His blue eyes gazed up at her with a familiar and comforting warmth. Those eyes had viewed Marron at the best and worst times of her life. They had watched her grow for sixteen years; they had watched her achieve all her goals; and they had watched her struggle through all the hardships of her life. And not once had those eyes displaced the loyalty and love they always held for her.
He smiled up at her. The magazine once clasped in his hands was placed beside him and his hands were now rested on his stomach. He was still dressed in a white T-Shirt and blue jogging pants that he had used for training that morning. Around his wrists and ankles were blue cloth weights, which Goten and him always wore.
"You finished doing whatever it was you were doing with my hair?" He asked, propping himself up on one elbow and turning his head round to look at her. Everything about Marron was so accustomed to him. Her clothes, her hair, her face. They were like a photo etched into his memory. She nodded her head, causing her blonde pigtails to bounce up and down. She had a delicate smile placed on her face and a gentle look in her eyes, which had never changed.
"Good. I'm gonna get some food. You guys want anything?" Trunks asked, kicking himself up into a sitting position. The petite braids swayed in his hair as he stood up.
"No thanks." Replied Marron, picking up the discarded magazine and nestling herself back into a pillow.
"Goten?" Trunks enquired, stretching slightly.
"Yeah, can I have some coke and a few burgers?" He asked as he turned away from the computer to face Trunks and Marron. "Thanks." He responded while Trunks left the room, an innocent smile across his face. Marron giggled. She had seen that same expression over a million times and it never failed to amuse her. Goten had not changed one bit. He was still the goofy one with the ability to make her laugh without saying anything. Like Trunks he too was still clad in that mornings training clothes; though his top was orange and his pants were black. He always had a sparkle in his dark eyes, his ivory hair was always dishevelled and he always shone with excitement and entertainment like there was no limit to existence. He was the life of the friendship; he emulated the positive moods and created enjoyment for them all.
"What ya reading Maz?" He asked, leaning back into his chair.
"Some gossip magazine." She replied as she held up the cover for him to see. He knew Marron bought about four magazines a week and had no doubt she had read the same story at least six times. He smiled to himself at this thought, while Marron continued to read the magazine.
Slowly he glanced around Trunks' bedroom. The sofa bed had been pulled out and a navy duvet was spread across it. Two pillows were positioned at the headboard of the sofa bed, stacked one on top of the other. This was Goten's bed for the night, as it was every time he slept round Trunks'. Further down the mattress there was a black backpack that Goten used for school. This contained everything he needed for the night and the next day.
By the side of the double bed that Marron was situated on, lay another bag. This one belonged to Marron. From what Goten could make out of its contents it included: nightwear, magazines, sweets, videos, a book, clean clothes for the next day and her toy teddy bear that Trunks and himself had bought for her when she was younger.
Rolled up in the middle of the floor was a red and black sleeping bag, which belonged to Trunks. Trunks always insisted that he slept on the floor, giving Marron his normal bed. They all had their own set positions when the slept round his house. Goten would situate his pillows at the opposite end of his bed, so that he faced out towards the room. Marron would position herself across the bed so that she could face Goten, and Trunks lay in between the two, gazing up at the ceiling.
Goten lifted himself from the office chair and twisted his torso around, causing the bones down his spine to crack. Walking towards his female friend he felt a searing pain down the back of his legs. That mornings training with Trunks had lasted longer then their normal sessions. They had performed half an hours worth of stretches and then two hours spent sparring each other. The workout had been strenuous and exhilarating, leaving both Trunks and Goten out of breath and feeling a deep ache of profound exhaustion in their bodies.
Marron had watched the whole thing from the gardens of the Capsule Corp. The boys always warned her not to come too close to the grounds they were fighting on, even if they were several feet in the sky, because she may get hurt. They never hid the fact that they protected Marron like a brother would their sister. It felt like their duty to shield her from any harm that may come to her. Sometimes she complained that she didn't need help or advice on how to survive but deep down she appreciated their concern.
He laughed to himself as he remembered the time when Marron had asked to spar with him and Trunks. She had complained excessively when they had refused to do so, until they finally gave in. they both agreed to take it easy on her even though she had asked them be at their full potential. One at a time they fought Marron. If Goten were being honest she didn't stand a chance even then, but she survived the gentle punches and carefully placed kicks. He had to carry her back to her house once she gave up through exhaustion.
Kicking a pair of trainers out the way and stepping over piles of clothes he finally reached the bed. He lowered himself down onto the green bedcovers, next to Marron. He could detect the faint smell of his beef burgers cooking downstairs and felt a deep pang of hunger hit him. Looking around the large bedroom, he took in its familiar furnishings, colours and pictures. Next to Trunks' bed was a cabinet (a great place for their stash of sweets), and on top sat a framed photo of all three of them together at the Kame house, which was taken last Summer. Dotted around the room were pictures of the lot of them together; posing like Charles Angels; eating at school; having a water fight in an open field; enjoying a picnic; and an old picture of the three of them snuggled together, fast asleep, when they were a lot younger. Marron had given both of them that picture in a red frame for Valentines Day.
Goten felt a sharp nudge in his back, and then another, until they became constant. A small smile praised his face and, without moving the rest of his body, he quickly raised one hand and caught Marron's foot as it advanced for another prod in his spine. As he got ready to tickle the offending foot, Trunks entered the room carrying with him a tray filled with drinks, snacks and assorted goodies for the three companions.
"Thought we'd need extra refreshments throughout the night." He explained, placing the tray on the floor, and retrieving a plate filled with hamburgers, which he handed over to Goten whom instantly dropped Marron's foot.

The night carried on. The three friends enjoyed the loud music, movies, assortments of food and plenty of video games. Time passed quickly and before they knew it, it was gone one in the morning. Trunks and Goten finished the game they were playing, Trunks having won once again. Together they noticed that Marron had been very quiet and spotted her curled up on the bed. Her blonde hair was fluffed out around her head and rest on the pillow. Her head was tilted to the side and snuggled under her chin was the teddy bear she had bought with her. Loosely clasped in her right hand was the blue light gun she had used for one of the video games.
They looked at each other and smiled. Silently Trunks walked over to his rolled up sleeping bag and started to pull it open, so it lay flat on the ground. Goten carefully pried the gun from Marron's fingers and placed it on the floor by the side of the bed. Stopping a second, he watched her body heaving gently up and down, and listened to her delicate breathing. She looked so small, curled up into a defensive position. Her face was peaceful and looked so delicate that Goten didn't want to move her body.
Cautiously, he lifted her body from the bed supporting her head with one hand and cradling the rest of her body into his arm. Goten didn't remove his gaze from her face, watching as her eyelids fluttered slightly, but she continued to sleep. Trunks carefully assisted Goten by pulling back the bedspread so he could place her inside the bed.
He rested her down onto the mattress of the bed and covered her over with the bedspread. Delicately he tucked the edges of the cover around her head, so the only part of her showing was her face. Un-consciously she nuzzled her head deep into the comfort of the pillow and twisted her body so that she faced out towards the room and the two boys.
After a moments pause the demi Saiyans continued to prepare for sleep. The last remains of food were devoured between the two of them, and the slipped between the covers of their temporary beds. A comfortable silence fell over the room, as both the boys got cosy. The only noise their delicate hearing could pick up was the soft sounds of Marron's breathing.
They didn't know how long it was before the silence was broken.
"What do you think we'll be doing in ten years time?" Trunks asked. His hands tucked behind his head as he gazed up at the ceiling.
"Exactly the same thing we are now." They heard Marron reply. Neither of them were aware she was awake, but they continued the conversation without hesitation.
"Do you really think so?" Trunks asked, it wasn't often that he spoke so seriously about matters. "Don't you think we'll be doing our own thing? We'll probably have our own families."
"Maybe. But no matter what we'll always be friends." Goten chimed in, trying to lighten the mood Trunks was giving off.
"Yeah, Goten's right. We promised we'd always be friends and that's the way it's going to stay." Marron finished in a matter-of-fact tone.
No one said anything after that, the silence fell over them once again until they all fell into a profound sleep.
