Part 6 The Full Moon

Vegeta groaned. The evening had been a success, but he was completely wiped out. I am Vegeta no Ouji; I am a Saiyjin Prince, and a Super Saiyjin. I am the father of two children. I should be able to handle four brats without them running me into the ground! A small moan came from the couch next to him. Kakkarott was sitting there, leaning his head back, eyes closed and looking utterly exhausted. And we haven't even started working on the suppression techniques for the Oozaruu transformation, thought Vegeta tiredly. At this rate Kakkarott wouldn't need the practice; he would simply sleep through the full moon, not even noticing his blood singing.

The evening had started out simply enough. Vegeta had prepared dinner, no small feat for two fully grown Saiyjins and three growing demi-Saiyjins. He had had some dubious help from Kakkarott in the beginning, but had in the end banished the man from the kitchen, bidding him instead to get the brats cleaned up for the evening meal. He had transferred a sleeping Sage from the carry-pouch to his infant seat as he worked around the hot food, and could hear Kakkarott chasing the three boys. Apparently Gohan had joined the younger chibis in a bout of parental mutiny. Kakkarott had just managed to get the three overly excited and famished boys into the capsule house, when Sage woke up with a howl, guaranteed to wake any dead that hadn't been resting comfortably for at least a centaury. Vegeta, his hands full, tried to comfort the screaming baby, and was just about to throw dinner to the four winds, when Sage's cries stopped abruptly. Vegeta almost dropped a scalding hot pan on his foot when he saw Kakkarott cuddling his chibi, talking softly to him, and soothing him. But it wasn't Kakkarott's parental instincts that threw the prince, after all Kakkarott did have two brats of his own. It was his son's response to the Saiyjin. This was Sage, who refused to be comforted by his own grandparents, even at times his mother, resting contentedly in the arms of Kakkarott. At first Vegeta didn't think that Kakkarott knew what a coup he had made, but then the taller Saiyjin met his astounded gaze. Understanding flashed between the two sets of onyx eyes, and Vegeta, turning back to the stove to salvage dinner simply said, "There are prepared bottles in the refrigerator Kakkarott. They need to be warmed."

He heard him rummaging around in the fridge, and knew he was warming up a bottle with his ki. A few seconds later, he could hear the contented slurping as Sage downed the first of his three evening bottles.

Dinner had been a riot, complete with a rousing game of pass the baby, and a narrowly avoided food fight between Goten and Gohan. Kakkarott, grinning had volunteered to fight Vegeta over who got to do the dishes and who got stuck getting the boys ready for bed. Vegeta had simply smirked and put Sage back into the carry pouch and strode back into the kitchen, suppressing a snicker as he heard all three boys jump Kakkarott. In the end, Vegeta had helped Kakkarott get the boys washed and settled down. As they closed the door to the room where the three older boys were to sleep, they heard scuffling and muffled voices.

"Shhh…quiet, they'll hear us."

"You be quiet, baka."

"Both of you be quiet, I want to get some sleep."

Silence, a giggle, then an outraged shout as they heard the sounds of two small bodies landing on top of the older boy.

Vegeta and Goku, glanced at each other, and agreed to just leave them to it.

"Look at it this way Vegeta," said Kakkarott as they entered the living room where Sage was sleeping in his infant seat, patented Sage thumb sucking position engaged, "Either they'll wear themselves out and sleep like the dead, or else they'll knock each other cold. Either way, they're out of our hair." The younger Saiyjin ran his fingers through said hair, and collapsed onto the couch.

"Whose idea was this again?" he wondered.

"Hn," snorted Vegeta. "If I wasn't so tired, I'd laugh in your face, baka."

"Might have been my idea, but you didn't have to go along with it."

Vegeta could think of no response to that.

They sat in blissful silence for a few minutes. Then Vegeta heard the familiar singing in his veins, the urge, to run outside, to turn his face to the moon, to give into the transformation. It was easy enough to suppress the urge; he could gaze upon the full moon without transforming with ease. But the sensation reminded him of why they were camping out in the first place. He could feel Kakkarott tremble slightly beside him.

"Kakkarott," he said softly.

The man gave no sign that he had heard the prince's voice.

"Kakkarott," Vegeta repeated, firmly, "Kakkarott, I want you to look at me."

Goku shuddered. He could hear Vegeta's voice, as though from far away, commanding him to turn and look at him. It sounded hard. He swore he could hear the bones in his neck creaking as he slowly turned his head towards the smaller Saiyjin. Saiyjin eyes met Saiyjin eyes, and suddenly, Goku felt almost normal.

"Kami, that was close," he gasped.

"Baka," said Vegeta disdainfully. "Have you NO control whatsoever?"

Goku shook his head. "I didn't even know about my transformations for years, and even after my tail was removed, no one told me that I turned into a giant monkey and stomped on people." Goku's voice was rueful, but held more than a hint of sadness, even guilt.

Vegeta's voice softened. "Kakkarott, you CAN do this. You can control the transformation. Come, sit on the floor with me, and we'll start the mind exercises I showed you."

The two Saiyjins faced each other, sitting crossed legged as they breathed in unison, finding the spot in their minds that drove the singing in their blood to gaze upon the full moon. Vegeta's voice guided Goku through the steps of the suppression technique, and abruptly, Goku knew he could control the pull of the moon. He had the insane urge to get up, run outside and laugh at the moon. He opened his eyes, and his breath caught in his throat. Vegeta sat before him, deep in a relaxed state of meditation. Goku let his caught breath out in wonder. Why had he never noticed how amazing the prince looked, he wondered. His feral grace was apparent, even in this tranquil state. Even in his casual dress of jeans and loose grey t-shirt, Vegeta looked every inch the prince that he was. Goku's eyes traveled from the proud face, down the supple neck to the corded muscles of the shoulders he knew rested underneath the thin cotton of that shirt. The prince's back was straight, his hands resting lightly on his thighs; Goku, out of the blue had the urge to cross the small space between the two of them, and worship those large, strong hands with his lips. He absently brushed the back of his hand across his lips, and was startled to discover that they were hot.

Vegeta opened his eyes lazily. He could feel that Kakkarott was in control of the transformation; he had only needed guidance this first time. It wasn't unusual, children first learning to control the transformation often needed help several times before feeling confident enough to do it on their own. And with Kakkarott never having had the training, he may as well have been a child.

His nostrils twitched. Kami, something smelled good. Briefly, he thought it was Sage, but it wasn't the distinctly sweet, sagey smell that radiated from his son. It was darker than that, more seductive. He breathed in deeply, moon musk, he decided. Moon musk and sweet spices. His eyes met Kakkarott's, and literal sparks flashed behind his eyeballs. Without realizing what he was doing, he moved forward, hands reaching up, towards that beautiful face, Kakkarott moving to intercept him….

A small chibi giggle rent the silence.

The two adult Saiyjins looked simultaneously across the room. A grinning Sage giggled again from his infant seat, and popped his thumb back into his mouth, watching them intently, apparently waiting for them to continue.

Avoiding the other's gaze, Vegeta crossed the room, and picked up his child. Sage looked mildly disappointed, but wrapped his tail around his father's neck as Vegeta cuddled him.

Vegeta struggled to gain control of himself, as he held his son. Stupid, stupid stupid, he berated himself. Stupid to forget about THAT effect of the full moon. That damnable scent was still arousing him. It wasn't alarming, he told himself. I'm a Saiyjin, not a foolish human who thinks that an attraction to the same sex is perverse. But I'm NOT attracted to that third class baka; it's just the moon talking. That's all. He regained his composure, and turned to face Kakkarott. The man was still kneeling on the floor looking confused. Vegeta sighed. He was going to have to explain this.

"Here Kakkarott," he said, pulling the taller Saiyjin to his feet and handing Sage to him. The chibi chortled, and wound his tail around Goku's bicep.

"Vegeta, I'm…I'm…." Goku stammered, not entirely sure exactly what he wanted to say.

Vegeta cut him off. "How long has it been since you've been with that woman of yours, Kakkarott?"

Goku blinked. Of all the things he didn't want to discuss with Vegeta….

"Tell me, Kakkarott, it's important."

Goku shifted Sage in his grip. "A while," he admitted in an embarrassed tone of voice. "Chichi…she doesn't much like sex." He blushed, then looked up at Vegeta. "Why?"

"The full moon," he replied. "It amplifies your urge to mate. If you are in season, it will send you into a rut." He sighed again. "It's been awhile for me too, doctor's orders after Sage was born. And before that, it was dangerous for me to touch her sexually in any way."

Goku blanched. "Was that…is this…"

Vegeta couldn't help it. He laughed. "Baka, if either of us were in season, our clothes would be off and Sage would be enjoying one hell of a show."

Goku blushed, creating an interesting effect as color rushed back into his formerly pallid cheeks. "But we're both…" his voice trailed off as Vegeta simply looked at him. He couldn't continue, he simply couldn't.

Vegeta finally took pity on him. "Stupid baka," he said, almost affectionately. "It would be your class, rather than your gender that would prohibit me from fucking you. You are Saiyjin…stop thinking with a human's brain."

Goku sat back down on the couch, feeling light headed. It was too much, his brain protested, just too much to process. He looked up with the intention of telling Vegeta so, but the words never left his throat. Vegeta sat across from him, and calmly explained Saiyjin mating habits to him. Goku managed to absorb enough to stop being embarrassed at the earlier display, and actually recovered enough to ask some pertinent questions, which Vegeta answered. Their birds and bees talk was interrupted by a most foul stench. A diaper change, and two midnight bottles later, Vegeta was purring his son to sleep on the couch, apparently absorbed in his parental duties. Goku bid the pair good night, and walked to his own room. Goku, sat down on his bed, head in his hands. Not knowing that Vegeta, two rooms away was having nearly the same thought, the words, Kami…do I really hope it was just the moon, flitted across his brain.

They awoke next morning, to shouts and scuffles coming from the boys' room. Groaning, Vegeta set Sage down on the floor to roll around as he headed to break up the fight. He met Kakkarott in the hall, and just as they were about to open the door, there was silence. They looked at each other in mild confusion, shrugged, and were about to head to the kitchen when they heard three panicked voices howl one word in unison.

"TOUSAN!!!!!!!!!"

Worried, Vegeta and Goku all but broke down the door. Lying sprawled in the middle of the floor, amidst a jumble of sheets and pillows were the three boys. At first, they didn't see anything wrong with the scene in front of them. Then, a furry lavender appendage twitched it's way out from the tangle of sheets. Vegeta gasped. Goku fell against the doorway to the room, as matching brown tails appeared out of the chaos. All three boys looked stunned and scared. Only Trunks managed to say anything.

"Papa, I got my tail back, but now I can't walk!" he wailed.

To be continued…
