'Who is it!?' Freeza growled angrily.

'This is Baylor.' Freeza relaxed considerably.

'Is the Cannon ready to fire, Baylor?'

'Yes, in about 15 seconds.'

'The the monkey prince agreed to fight with you?'

'Yes sir, he agreed.'

'Very well. Report back to me with any news.'

'I will. Goodbye, Lord Freeza.'

----------

The Cannon had begun to charge a ball of ki at the bottom of the barrel. Now that the Reaper had set down on the
ground, the cannon was buried deep inside the barrel, fitting perfectly. On the very top, some 20 miles above ground,
a dish emerged from the flat surface and swivelled around, adjusting itself so that the blast would fire at an angle.
The air was scorchingly hot, and was wavy with the heat. A bright light was growing from the mouth of the barrel
which was getting brighter and brighter. A humming sound soon became a great rumbling. Suddenly a massive,
artificial ki blast with a breath of some 1000 feet, like a giant pillar, shot from the mouth and hit the massive deflector
dish, which caused the shot to go in a different direction. It shot off into the sky. The colossal beam continued to flow
from the mighty orifice for almost 30 seconds before waning and disappearing, leaving a vapor trail in it's wake.

---------

The shaking died down and the lights returned to normal. People picked themselves up and tidied the papers that
had fallen. Vegeta had stayed right where he was and was perfectly fine. Baylor approached him. 'Freeza should be
dead any minute now! His power level is only 530,000. A blast as strong as that will decimate him. But let's not
celebrate until....' Baylor drifted off when Vegeta stalked over to him with murder written all over his face. 'Umm....'
Vegeta picked him up by the collar and slammed him into a wall, breaking his lower back. He cried out in pain. 'What
the hell!?!?!' Vegeta slammed him again, causing minute cracks to appear.

'I heard your side of that little conversation with Freeza! Now tell me....what is going on?' he demanded darkly. Baylor
swallowed nervously.

'I don't know what you're talking about!' Vegeta tightened the grip on Baylor's neck.

'Tell me, now!'

'I....can't talk about it! Freeza will kill me!' Vegeta growled and threw him across the room, then stalked over to him,
hoisting up by the neck once again.

'TELL ME!!!' Baylor, being a coward, decided to talk.

'Well you see...umm....your whole mission? It was all a setup!'

'What!?'

'It's all a setup! To analyse you! Your protocol, your methods, your loyalty....' Baylor trailed off. 'And to test Freeza's
new super weapon. It has a range of more than a light year and can strike with enough power and accuracy to
destroy anything. This weapon means the end of the free galaxy. The whole planet is capable of moving to anywhere
it's needed,' explained Baylor in a voice barely above a choked whisper. Vegeta held him there thinking. An idea
slowly dawned upon him. He let Baylor go and rushed into the medical lab where Pan was just coming out of a tank. It
took almost no time to restore her to full power because it was a new type of super tank that had just been made.
The one Pan had been put in was the only prototype. She had just finished putting on some fresh armour when she
turned to Vegeta and bowed.

'My prince,' she said. He motioned for her to rise and she did so, looking him in the eye questioningly. He noticed that
she had a very slight limp in her right leg. 'What is going on?'

'No time to explain. We're going to blow this place up. Follow me,' he ordered. She followed him back to the room
where Baylor was gasping for breath on the floor. Vegeta picked him up roughly and twisted his arm behind his back.
'Alright Baylor, your going to fire that cannon at Freeza for real this time. Set the controls!' ordered Vegeta as he
threw Baylor to the desk where the computer was. He turned around and sent a frightened look at Vegeta.

'B-but if I do that....there's a very good chance of an overload that will destroy the entire Reaper! You expect me to
put a million lives on the line?! I won't do it!' He declared shakily. Vegeta's face twisted into a cruel sneer. He put his
finger to Baylor's chest and formed a small ki blast. Baylor began to shriek in pain and terror as the blast burned its
way to his heart with antagonising slowness. 'OK OK!!!! I'LL DO IT, JUST STOP!!!!!' Vegeta dissipated the blast and
threw Baylor into the chair in front of the computer. He quickly put some codes in, and soon the computer voice
declared a power overload. The whole ship shook once more, only this time explosions rocked the ship and pipes
burst. Vegeta turned to Pan after snapping Baylor's neck.

'Let's get out of here,' suggested Vegeta calmly. Pan nodded and they began to blast their way through the steel
walls. It soon occurred to Vegeta that they were in the center of the ship, and blasting out would take a very long
time. Time they didn't have. He was about to tell Pan to stop blasting when she blasted into an engine room. The
room was massive. It literally stretched as far as the eye could see in all directions. In the center of the vast room
was a massive black sphere of metal and wires which Vegeta assumed to be an engine. It was shaking so violently it
was falling apart. Fires were breaking out of the walls, further lighting the room. He looked around and saw the
number of the engine. It was number 8. If Vegeta remembered correctly, this one was near the top of the ship. He
motioned for Pan to blast up. They did so and soon the dark room was bathed in an orange glow as twilight
permeated the roofed abyss. The two Saiya-jins blasted out the top, just as the engine exploded. On top, a massive
explosion erupted from the smooth surface, and out of the fiery blast emerged two tiny figures. They flew down and
landed on the ground miles away several minutes later. They looked on as the titanic cube was bathed in fire. It
exploded spectacularly when the Emperor Cannon fired. From the distance it looked like a tiny pinprick of light was
shooting into space. The deflector dish broke and landed perfectly on the opening, sealing it. The blast backfired on
itself and the Reaper took the blast as if it had been the target. When the explosions died down, what remained of
the once great super structure was a giant flaming graveyard 20 miles high with massive pillars of thick black smoke
billowing into the wind which could be seen for thousands of miles.

Pan looked at Vegeta expectantly, asking for answers. 'I'll tell you on the way back to our pods,' he said.

-------

'So you see, my lord, Baylor had betrayed you, and I pretended to be with him. I managed to destroy the Reaper
before any harm could come to you or your empire. It is regrettable that the weapon backfired and destroyed the
planet, but I think that it was for the better. A traitorous planet like that could have never been re-integrated to your
empire,' said Vegeta to Freeza, who was standing before him, listening to Vegeta's report.

Freeza was furious. He had lost much aside from the planet itself, such as the new regen tank design, and he was
forced to believe that Vegeta was truly unaware of any conspiracy, and that Vegeta truly thought Baylor to be a
traitor. Vegeta had also found Pan, which he was not planning on. Dodoria was dead and Zarbon was.....Zarbon. In
short, it had been a disaster, one which his empire may never fully recover from.

'Very well, monkeys,' Freeza hissed through clenched teeth as he returned to his chair, gulping his wine. 'You are
dismissed.' Pan turned on her heel and left Freeza's quarters, but Vegeta stayed behind. Freeza became aware that
Vegeta had not left and swivelled around in his hover chair to face him. 'What is it!? I wish to be left alone!' growled
Freeza.

'Why did you keep from me the existence of one of my subjects?' questioned Vegeta, who was angry that Pan had
been kept from him. 'And be truthful with me.' Freeza eyed him critically before he decided to tell the truth.

'As you may or may not know, Pan is, and always has been stronger than you by a small degree. I felt that if you and
her could compete, you'd both become stronger than I wished. You might have even been able to surpass Zarbon and
I do not want that.' Even as Freeza said this the puzzle solved itself in Vegeta's mind. Freeza was afraid of him and
Pan. He feared that Vegeta might actually become the legendary Super Saiya-jin. Vegeta slowly smirked and chuckled.

'And now that we're together you're afraid. Afraid that we might team up and kill you. Coward,' taunted Vegeta boldly.
Freeza's face contorted with anger of a second, before reverting to the in-control face he normally had. He glared
wobbly at Vegeta.

'If I wasn't so drunk right now, monkey, I would kill you. Now that you and Pan know of each other, I'm placing a
training restriction on you two.' A look of disbelief crossed Vegeta's face, and Freeza laughed. 'You two may not train
with each other. The only time you will even be allowed to fight together is on missions. If this rule is defied even
once, a ki suppressing collar will be placed on you. Understood?' Vegeta instantly left without a word.

---------

Months later.

A knock came from Vegeta's door. When he didn't answer the door opened and Pan stepped into the dark room,
which was lit only by the stars which could be seen through the huge window that stretched from one end of the
room to the other. It was a sight that she had seen many times before. Vegeta, like herself, was an elite, and with
that status came a room that had a bed, a separate bathroom and some nice things such as a couch and a few
chairs. She strained her eyes to see Vegeta, and saw him sitting on one of the chairs, looking out at the stars. He had
been sitting there for hours, just thinking.

'Vegeta?'

'Leave me be. I wish to be alone.'

'Look, my prince,' she began without any hint of mockery in her tone. 'I know that you're brooding, but I'm hungry,
and I think you are too, so why don't we go and get some food?' she suggested. Vegeta was silent. 'It's your day off,
Vegeta. You shouldn't mope. You're the legendary. You should at least not starve yourself. You'll become weak if you
do.'

'They're beautiful, aren't they?' he said quietly, totally ignoring her words.

'My prince?' questioned Pan.

'The stars,' he said a little louder than before. 'They're beautiful. They are always there, calm, serene. When you look
at them as long as I do, you realise that you're insignificant.'

'I fail to see the beauty in giant balls of gas which are violent and unpredictable, my prince.' Vegeta rose from his
seat.

'I know. Someday you might. Let's go get some food,' said Vegeta quietly. He left and headed for the bar. Pan took a
different route and got there first. Vegeta entered the room after her and took a seat at the bar. Suddenly Pan,
Raditz and Nappa were all around him congratulating him. Before he could react Pan handed him a bottle of very
expensive wine. He soon came to his senses.

'What the hell is going on!?' he demanded, looking at Pan for the answers. She was happy to oblige.

'It's a small congratulations on becoming a 1st class elite. Your power level is now 20000, and to celebrate, we got
you a bottle of G'traue-made wine. It's the finest bottle ever made by the finest wine makers in the universe, and
what makes it even more special is the fact that the G'traue-jin became extinct 80 years ago.' Vegeta wanted to
protest, and say that he didn't want any of this, but he didn't feel like it, so he decided to humor them. He opened the
bottle and downed about half of it in one go. When he put the bottle down, Zarbon was there. Suddenly the four
Saiya-jins got out of their seats. Nappa and Raditz bowed, but Pan and Vegeta did not.

'Vegeta, Pan. Lord Freeza requests your presence on the bridge immediately,' he said. 'Come with me.' He turned and
left with Pan and Vegeta in tow. They walked through the never-ending corridors of Freeza's mega space station and
eventually came to the bridge where Freeza was inspecting an unmoving young woman who was carried between
two guards. 'Wait here,' instructed Zarbon. He left after this.

'What is he doing?' Pan asked Vegeta, referring to Freeza.

'Just watch,' said Vegeta grimly. Pan turned her attention back to Freeza.

'Very good. You chose well. How long has she been dead?' he asked the guard.

'Six or seven hours, my lord,' answered the guard. Freeza licked his lips and creased her cheek.

'Good. Take her to my quarters.' Pan shot a look at Vegeta and he nodded. Pan felt her blood boil in disgust.

Freeza turned to the pair of Saiya-jins. 'Ah, you're here. I called you here to make sure you're not getting soft. I've
noticed that you two have been spending a lot of time together and have become rather chummy.'

'I would not hesitate to kill her, Freeza,' declared Vegeta, instantly knowing what Freeza was getting at. 'So don't
worry about it.' Freeza chuckled.

'I know, my little monkey prince. It's not you I'm concerned about. I'm not sure that Pan has what it takes to kill you
though.....Pan, I order you blast him.'

Pan glared at Freeza. 'I could blast him any time I want to. I don't have to do it now to prove myself!' she shouted
angrily.

'Really? Haha. Then do it. Or are you too weak to?' he taunted. Pan powered up a blast and without a second thought
sent it through the right side of Vegeta's chest, leaving a gaping hole that one could could fit an outstretched palm
into. He went flying back and crashed into a wall, sliding down unconscious, leaving a dark red smear of crimson in his
wake. Pan turned back to Freeza.

'There. I've proven myself. Can I go now?' Freeza eyed her suspiciously before dismissing her. Vegeta was taken to a
regen tank to heal. When he came out the next day, Pan was waiting for him.

'My prince, forgive me,' she requested as Vegeta put new armor on.

'Hn.' he replied. 'Forget it. You were under orders, and I would have done the same thing to you. I want you to check
my power level. It should be slightly above 20000 due to the bad injury.' Pan complied and checked her scouter. Her
hand fell away and she stared in shock at him.

'M-my prince? Your power level is 21,000!!' Vegeta, who had just finished dressing spun around to face her.

'What?!? That's impossible! It takes months to achieve an increase like that! Retake it!' he demanded and tossed his
scouter to her. She switched hers for his and took it again.

'It's still 21,000!' Vegeta had a look of thought on his face, before a half smile half smirk graced his features.

'Do you know what this means! I always knew that an injury, espically a bad one, rose a Saiya-jin's power, but it must
rise by a percentage instead of a fixed amount. Meaning if I get beaten to within an inch of my life again, my power
could rise by several thousand! With regular increases like that I could defeat Freeza in a matter of months!' Vegeta
was excited, more so than ever before. He calmed down and put his mask back on and made a decision. 'Pan, I'm
going to my quarters.' He left without another word and went to Zarbon's room. He swallowed the lump in his throat
and blasted the door to bits. Zarbon leapt from his chair and stalked over to Vegeta. Before he could question Vegeta,
he got punched in the face. Vegeta attacked him and had the upper hand for a short time, before Zarbon took over.
He quickly beat Vegeta into a bloody body on the floor. He dragged him to the training room and threw him to the
floor.

'We're not done yet, monkey! I don't know what possessed you to attack me, but you'll regret it.' Vegeta chuckled
weakly from his spot on the floor and spat out the blood in his mouth.

'You're the one who will regret it, freak!' he wheezed painfully. Zarbon snarled and kicked Vegeta in the ribs, breaking
the few which were still untouched.

'You've got guts, monkey. Let's see what they look like.' Zarbon keeled next to Vegeta and ripped the armor and
spandex off of Vegeta's torso, leaving his chest open. He grabbed two ends of Vegeta's abdomen and slowly began
to pull them apart. Vegeta began to roar as Zarbon tore his abdomen open and began to gently pull his guts out. He
forced himself into silence, closed his eyes and willed himself to pass out, but he knew from experience that that
would be too merciful for the likes of him. He wondered if Zarbon was going to kill him this time, or would he make
sure that he did just less than what it would take to kill him, like he always did. After too long the world around him
began to fade and spin as the kind embrace of darkness welcomed him.

Zarbon was rummaging through Vegeta's insides when Freeza walked in on him. 'I hope he is still alive, Zarbon,'
growled Freeza threateningly. 'I have a mission for him that I was going to send him on immediately, and he can't do
that if he's dead.' Zarbon was scared for a second that he may have killed Vegeta, but was relieved when he saw
Vegeta take a ragged gasp. Zarbon stuffed his undamaged intestines back in and picked up Vegeta.

'Will I put him in a pod with a tank, my lord?' asked Zarbon.

'Of course, you idiot! And hurry. The other monkeys are waiting for him. The next time you decide to eviscerate one of
the monkeys, notify me first!' Zarbon and Freeza headed in the direction of the docks, Zarbon walking and Freeza in
his hover chair. 'I'm sending them on a mission from which they will not return. They are becoming too powerful.
They're going into the heart of my rival's empire to destroy it. They will be slaughtered. Though it will take them a few
months to get there, they should still be able to do some damage before they die. Raditz is going on a one and a half
year long round trip solo mission to some backwater planet called Chikyuu-sei in search of his brother, whom he
thinks is alive. He is so weak that he could never be a threat to me, so I am unconcerned about him. Nappa is weak,
and he will never be a threat on his own, but he could turn the tides at a critical moment, so he is going with them to
die too.' Freeza finished and the two walked in silence to the docks, where Pan and Nappa were waiting. Raditz had
already left. 'No words, monkeys! Get in the pods. Your prince will be fine.' Nappa and Pan reluctantly got into the
pods and waited for the life support to come on. When it did they went into a long sleep.
