Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Breathe Today, Tomorrow Unknown ❯ The Cats Out Of The Bag ( Chapter 26 )
Happy Early Valentines day! Sorry I have been so absent! Thank you all for continuing to read and support me in my fiction, you all have been amazing, and I truly mean that!
Dr. Briefs turned to go talk with the so called 'Saiyan' in the Gravity Chamber that held him for the past week. He wasn't nervous to talk to him, but was unsure how he would react when he brought up the fact that he knew he killed his sons, his wife, and was responsible for his daughter being abducted, leaving him without a family. He had such power as a young child that he couldn't even begin to fathom the strength he possessed as an adult.
As he turned the corners to make it to the brute, he stopped at the window and looked in at him. He had been training in 100 times gravity at the Saiyan's request. Since his daughter had told him her entire story, earlier in the week he changed the gravity knowing that the man would be able to handle it; also, he would get test results which he greatly enjoyed. Looking in, he saw the man training heavily doing pushups which soon led to sit ups. His training was limited since the room was not built for the power that the man had possessed. Taking in a deep breath, Dr. Briefs pressed a button which allowed him to speak through the intercom in the room.
"Looks like you've been training hard," he led with a normal tone in his voice. He was definitely not used to confronting murderers who turned out later to be saviors. It was definitely a weird situation. He didn't know if he hated the man or not. He murdered his family in cold blood, yet he saved his daughter and brought her back to him. At this point it was a double-edged sword. "Can I have a word with you?" He watched as the Saiyan stopped what he was doing and stood up, grabbing a towel and walking towards the glass, nodding his head.
Putting the room back to normal gravity, Dr. Briefs opened the door and entered the room. Walking towards the table, Goku followed suit, taking a seat as the older man had done.
"So, the results came in?" Goku asked while recovering his breath from the workout. It had been exciting for him to train in a different level of gravity. It had been years since he was actually able to train that he abused this week to do so. He had thought about Bulma a lot, but tried to focus his mind and soul on re-training what his body had forgotten.
"They did." The doctor said with a stone face. "Turns out, she is in fact my daughter." A smile appeared and vanished quickly as he looked at the Saiyan's dark eyes.
"Indeed, she is." Goku smiled, letting it hang on his face, "So, speaking of your daughter, where is she?" His eyes quickly darted to the door, wondering if she would pop in at any moment. It had been a week since he had seen her. The window in the room was not a two-way window, his half of it was a mirror, so he was not able to see who was looking in at him.
"She's upset." Dr. Briefs spoke in a monotone voice.
"Upset?" Goku was confused. He knew his woman could be emotional since this whole ordeal had happened, but he didn't know why she could be so upset over the fact that she proved she was Dr. Brief's daughter to where she wouldn't come see him after a week. "Why is she upset?" His arms crossed over his chest as he leaned back in his chair. It made no sense to him.
"She knows about you." He kept his tone as he met with the Saiyan's eyes. He saw them twitch and fixate on him. He had no idea what might happen.
"What do you mean, 'she knows about me'?" He leaned in closer, bringing his arms to rest on the table, also not breaking any eye contact with the man across from him.
"She knows that you are the one that killed her brothers, her mother, and she knows you are the reason she was taken in the first place." He watched as the Saiyan's eyes grew wide. A perplexed look formed on his face, one that the doctor had not yet seen before.
"H-how?" Goku didn't know what do to. He had no idea how the doctor knew about what he had done, let alone was able to tell Bulma about it all. For the first time in his life, the Saiyan was stunned with no words to say.
"When you left and all was finished, I was able to collect some of your hair that you left after slaughtering everyone that I loved." The doctor kept his voice even as he spoke. "When I was well enough, I began searching with the police for you. I entered the DNA sample and looked through our entire database on criminals with no match. It was then I noticed your DNA was far different than that of a human. I kept this information to myself and knew I would never find out who had actually taken everything from me. I knew my daughter was long gone, either dead or somewhere I would never be able to get to. So, when you and what I thought was a pseudo form of my daughter came into my life, I took samples of DNA from both of you. One, to see if she was who she said she was. Two, to see if my curiosity on you was correct, which it was. I told my daughter all of this. So, she knows about you."
Dr. Briefs had thought about meeting the man in front of him since the day he met him long ago. He was just a boy, but he was a man now. He had already thought of everything he would say to him, how he wrecked his life. How he killed everything that made him happy. How he was a horrible being. How he hoped he would die in the worst possible way. How he hoped he in turn would lose everything that he ever cared about. He wanted to say so much to him, but that all seemed to be pushed aside as he looked at the Saiyan. His face was stone. It seemed that he did just lose everything he ever cared about; he just lost Bulma. "Why did you do it." His voice lowered, not in aggression, but in sadness.
Goku sat there for a second, taking everything in that the doctor had just said. He was right about it all. Ever since he saw Bulma as a young girl on Planet Vegeta, he knew he was responsible for her being there; that his actions caused her life to be turned upside down. And when Prince Vegeta made him her caretaker, he felt even more guilt. He had to be around her all the time. His life at that point was meaningless and he learned to feel nothing since the day his father left him, but something struck him with the girl, especially when he felt a bond start to form. He had not bonded with anyone, so letting someone in was a big deal to him. Then their bond grew stronger and feelings started to grow that at that point, telling her that he was the reason for her life being so painful was his fault was not an option anymore. He didn't want to lose what he finally had.
"It was not my idea to come to Earth and kill your family." Goku's voice was soft as he and the doctor began to relive what happened many years ago, this time learning a different side as the 'why' it happened. "When I was a boy, my father ended up leaving me and my brother to join Frieza's army. Frieza is an enemy to the Saiyan race, so when our king found out about this, my family became known as traitors. Even though my brother and I didn't do anything against our race, we were still looked at as if we had. My father leaving us haunted me each day until I finally snapped. At that point I thought if my race wanted a traitor, then I would show them a traitor; I'd be just like my father, but worse. I began killing Saiyan after Saiyan until the king was able to stop me. He said he saw something in me, something so strong that I could help the Saiyan empire destroy Frieza and his army, which included my father. He said that would redeem whatever damage my father had done and the damage I had just done. So, I took him up on his deal. I was going to join the elite force of the Saiyans and help take down whatever I needed to in order to promote my race in taking over our enemy. But first, the king said I had to prove that I was loyal to him and would listen to his orders. Killing your family was not the only thing I had to do in order to be able to be in the king's good graces, but it is the one I have regretted the most."
"Do you only regret it because you became involved with my daughter?" The doctor cut in.
"No." Goku didn't aggressively react, he knew he deserved whatever Dr. Briefs threw at him. "It was the most haunting one. Honestly, if I killed you all then it wouldn't have haunted me as much. You lived as a family and died as one." He was truthful as he spoke. "But knowing that someone watched their family die and then was taken to live a different life by force, no choice in the matter, and I was the reason for that is a pretty difficult thing to live with."
"Why did you spare my daughter knowing this, then?" He questioned on.
"I didn't." Goku took in a deep breath as he remembered that day. He was told to show the king he was loyal and was told to kill them all, so that is what he was going to do. "The king stopped me as I was about to kill her. As to why, I don't know. I stopped by command right as I was about to do it." He began to think about if he did do it, if the king didn't tell him to stop. His life wouldn't be anything like it was today.
"He was seeing if he could leash you in." Dr. Briefs spoke as he listened to the story. He gathered that the Saiyan was a savage beast, so he guessed that if the king could command him, he needed to know he could retract him as well.
"That may be." The Saiyan never thought of it that way, but never put it passed King Vegeta to do something like that.
They both sat in silence as they sat across from each other. It was a lot of information that had just taken place that it seemed there wasn't much else to say. They both had each other's story on what had happened on that day, and for Dr. Briefs, the 'why' was the most important. He didn't accept it as an answer, but at least it wasn't for nothing, to say the least.
"So, how did you survive anyway?" Goku was curious, recalling that he blasted him pretty good.
A slight chuckle left Dr. Brief's mouth at his question. He didn't know why it was humorous, but it was. "You got me pretty good, but even though you hit me in my chest, you somehow managed to miss all of my vital organs. They still took damage, but you hit me just right for me to live. I had my phone on me and was able to call for help the moment you all left."
"Well, I am glad you did." He spoke remorseful. He never thought he'd be face to face with the man he took everything from, but it was time for him to face his demons and it was nice to have it in the open. "How am I going to explain this to her?" Goku looked up at the ceiling as he knew he wouldn't be able to justify anything. He wasn't forced to do it, he willingly took it all from her. This would be he most difficult thing he would have to do.
"You're going to have to make it work." Dr. Briefs stood up from his seat and began to walk away from the table, appearing to be leaving the room. "She's pregnant you know."
"She's what?!" Goku stood up and walked next to the doctor.
"She's pregnant; she's with child." He smirked at the Saiyan as they began to walk the halls together.
"How do you know this?!" Goku couldn't fathom the thought at all. But a bigger question to him was if it was his. He and Prince Vegeta had been with her so close together, that it could be either one of their children.
"I am a doctor, a scientist, and an inventor. Shall I go on?" He could see the Saiyan was definitely in shock.
"Where is she? I need to talk to her." Goku looked around in each room to see if he could see her in any of them.
"You might want to let her be for a bit, she just learned a pretty terrible thing."
"Does she know she's with child?" He couldn't imagine Bulma running off knowing that she was pregnant.
"No, I did not tell her. After I told her about you, she ran off outside. Give her some time, she'll come around." They had made it to the front door, which was still open. "We'll tell her another time. That is a lot of emotional stress in one day."
As Dr. Briefs ended his sentence, he looked at how puzzled Goku looked, "Something wrong?" he hadn't seen this look from him either. He became concerned as he studied his face.
"Yes." Goku spoke as he rushed out the door, levitating into the air to see beyond the trees, not caring if anyone could see him. He could feel something. It was subtle, but definitely there. It didn't take him long to focus his attention to a field where he began to fly to. As he was approaching, his eyes widened when he could hear a faint voice screaming for him. "Bulma!" He yelled back as he began to fly faster to aid her. He was baffled when he saw a ship lift up off the ground, zooming beyond Earth's atmosphere until he could no longer feel its energy.
"How did I not feel it?!" He became angry as he lost Bulma. He was dealing with what Dr. Briefs had been telling him that he lost all focus at that time. He was always aware and the one time he wasn't, he let Bulma slip through his hands. Instantly, Goku flew to where he and Bulma had arrived to get on his ship and follow them, but when he arrived, he could see that it was no longer cloaked and no longer functional. He knew that the other Saiyan had found it first and destroyed it before coming to find them.
Quickly flying back to Dr. Briefs' house, he landed and walked through the front door where the doctor was still standing. "They've got her." He said angrily as he began to pace back and forth in front of him.
"What do you mean?" A concerned look formed on his face as his heart began to sink.
"They've got her, she's not here anymore. Do you have a ship? I need to get to her!" He tried to stay calm, but he knew if he didn't act fast, Bulma would not survive.
Dr. Briefs' face sunk as he turned his gaze to Goku, "No, but I can make one."
"I'll help you to get it done faster, we need to move." Passion flowed through his eyes as he followed the doctor to his workshop. He knew that he couldn't do much since he himself was no scientist, but he at least knew about his own Saiyan ships to be able to let him know what needed to be done and how their functionality worked so he could duplicate it. He knew the quickest way would be to build an Attack Ball, which were small and made it easy and fast to travel through the universe. He knew they needed to build something fast in order to get to her in time. He was going to get her back no matter the cost. He couldn't lose her, not now or ever.
Finally, the question you all have been asking is answered :D
