Chapter 1

"Oh, my God! He is so hot!"

Goten smiled, his boyish face lighting up. He chuckled and said, "Well, Trunks. Looks like your fan club found you."

Trunks Briefs looked behind him and groaned. Goten laughed when the entire group of girls simultaneously giggled and blushed, trying to appear as though they hadn't been "stalking" his friend.

"Will they ever quit?" Trunks asked, his voice pained.

"Nah, you're way too cute!" Goten mocked in a high-pitched voice. He stopped laughing when Trunks's eyes flashed from blue to green and his fists started glowing gold. "Hey, man, chill! I was just kidding!"

Trunks forced a grin. "So, we still on for training tonight?"

Goten looked confused, and Trunks laughed.

"What?" Goten asked.

"You look just like your dad!"

Goten smiled, but still looked bewildered. Trunks moaned. "Don't tell me you forgot that we were training this afternoon!"

Goten smirked a bit and replied, "Ok, I won't tell you."

Trunks smacked Goten upside the head. "You have a date, right?"

Goten nodded. "Sorry, man. It completely slipped my mind. Another time, ne?"

"Hai."

They continued eating lunch, trying to ignore the blushing girls.

"Hey, Mom! I'm home!"

Trunks threw his book bag on a chair and removed his boots. He opened the refrigerator and rummaged through it, looking for food.

"Hey, you."

Trunks looked up to see his mother's bright blue eyes. He smiled as he looked her over.

"Working all day, huh, Mom?"

Buruma looked over her attire. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, and her clothes her covered in oil. She smiled and laughed.

"Yup!" She paused, looking at the chocolate snack in her son's hands. "Oh, no you don't, mister. You are going to eat healthy foods, like an apple or something."

Trunks smirked. He hesitantly put the chocolate away, trading it in for an apple.

"So, where's dad?" He asked.

As if on cue, a voice yelled, "Woman! The gravity room isn't working!"

Buruma and Trunks looked at each other before laughing.

"I'd better go see what's wrong with that damn machine. I swear, your father loves that thing more than he does me!" Buruma laughed over her shoulder.

Trunks shook his head and sat at the table.

A moment later, he was on the floor, a small body on top of him.

(an: No! HENTAI!!!)

"Bura! Get off!" he yelled.

Blue eyes stared down at him, first confused, then angry.

"Ugh! What is wrong with you? I hugged you! Man, you'd think I'd kicked you in the-Hello, Daddy!" Bura's voice changed from angry to bubbly in less than a second at the sight of their father in the doorway.

Vegeta's arms were crossed over his chest, his eyebrows knit together. He wore a tank-top and shorts, and he was dripping in sweat. Trunks could tell their father had been training all day.

Bura stood up and brushed imaginary dust off her school uniform before walking to Vegeta. She looked as though she were about to hug him, but seeing his sweat, she decided against it. Instead, she kissed his cheek.

"How was your day, Daddy?" she asked, smiled sweetly.

Trunks nearly burst out laughing at the transition on his father's face.

Everyone knew Vegeta was a tough guy, but they also knew that he loved his daughter dearly. She was his soft-spot, and he spoiled her rotten.

"It was fine, Bura. How was school?" Vegeta asked, looking Bura in the eyes. She smiled and explained her entire day, from the new boy in school down to how horrible her science teacher was. Trunks was zoning out when she excused herself to go change.

"What about you, boy?" Vegeta asked, shaking Trunks out of his daydream. Trunks smiled softly. His father was rougher with him. But Trunks was far too used to it to be hurt, and he knew somehow that Vegeta loved him as much as Bura.

"Fine. GR not working?"

Vegeta shook his head, his face hardening again. "Damned machine. I'd destroy the thing if it weren't so important."

Trunks nodded, thinking of what his mother had said.

Buruma walked in, rubbing her temples. "Fixed it. Wanna know why the thing keeps breaking, Vegeta?"

He nodded.

"You keep using it! If you'd let it sleep a few days, it would be overheating!"

Trunks did not miss the slight blush that flashed across his father's face.

Vegeta shook his head and turned to his son. "Change and come train."

And that was that. Vegeta turned and left, heading for the gravity room.

Buruma shook her head. "Why do I put up with him?"

~*~*~*~

"Guys, I have something to announce."

Everyone turned to look at Buruma. She gulped, knowing full well that Vegeta, at least, would not be open to this idea. However, since her father's passing, Capsule Corps. was hers.

"I've been pretty strained lately, what with the house work and Capsule. So, I've hired someone to help around with the business."

She saw the confusion on their faces.

"That's not all. She's going to be staying with us. Indefinitely."

She closed her eyes and started counting down from ten. She only got to 8.

"What?!"

Vegeta's voice was so loud that she nearly jumped. However, after knowing the man for over 20 years, she had learned at least some self-control.

"Vegeta, we have plenty of room. It's not as though we can't afford it; you know we can. And besides, it's my company, my decision. I just thought you'd like to know."

"You're bringing a stranger into this house, without my consent! It's damn well my decision as well, woman!" Vegeta yelled.

Trunks met Bura's gaze. His sister rolled her eyes. Trunks remembered a time when things like this would make her cry. But they both knew their father had an incredibly short fuse, and they never worried. Their parents were in love, whether Vegeta was willing to show it or not. They would never let a small bicker break them apart.

Buruma's eyes flashed, but with years of practice on her side, she managed to control her temper.

"Vegeta, I need the help. I've been exhausted lately, between the kids, you, work, and anything else that decides to pop up. I could use some helping hands around the labs, and the person I'm hiring lives too far away to commute. She's willing to come live here to help me; that's not something that comes around every day. Besides, she's incredibly qualified, and she's only a few years older than Bura. I've made up my mind. So please, can't we just eat a nice, quiet dinner?" Buruma asked. As she finished, she put on a slight pout that Bura had mastered at the age of 3. It never failed to make Vegeta give in.

Vegeta sighed.

"Fine."

They finished dinner on a somewhat lighter note.
