CATCH OF THE DAY: Chapter Twelve

Disclaimer: I don't own anyone except for Kage-chan, Ocarina, and Olenji (Japanese for orange, the fruit, not the color).

Kage-chan watched as the Gentle Tom began to cut her pet open. Her pet was dying, she could sense it, and she somehow knew that what the Gentle Tom was doing was the only way to save the kitten.
The kitten was brought out, mewling loudly. Then Kage's pet breathed her last. The distraught animal lifted her head and wailed her grief to the world.
...

Trunks stood facing the wall while silent tears ran down his cheeks, unable to watch. He heard a plaintive yowl, and the tears fell harder. He squeezed his eyes shut, a strangled sob escaping him before he got a hold of himself and went to where his father was laying.
The small, pale figure was surrounded by blood, the scarlet liquid contrasting rather prettily with the pale skin and black hair.
//I think I've gone into shock,// Trunks thought as he numbly moved forward. He couldn't think of any other explanation for why he would find the sight of his father covered in blood pretty.
He scooped up Kage-chan, holding her close to his chest. Gohan was taking care of his new little sister, leaving Vegeta just lying there. Dead. His father was dead.
It just didn't seem possible. He reached out one hand to lightly touch his cheek. He was still warm, but that warmth was fading away fast.
"Dad?" he whispered, as if calling to him would bring him back. "Daddy?"
His knees went out on him, and he was suddenly kneeling on the floor, Kage-chan cuddled to his chest. He started sobbing loudly, his eyes getting red and puffy. His whole body shook as he cried.
Gohan finished bandaging the baby's arm and set her an incubation chamber before going over to Trunks and squatting beside him. He pulled the teenager into his arms and held him as he cried.
...

Chi-Chi stood in the corner, dazed. //This is all my fault,// she thought. //All my fault. My husband's gone off to kill himself and Vegeta is dead.//
Goku had started showing interest in her again, but she had pushed him away whenever he came near. She had wanted to bond with him, but not before Vegeta was forced to bond with Goten.
Now everything was going wrong and it was all her fault.
...

Goku and Goten froze in their savage fight as a presence in the back of both their minds suddenly winked out.
"Ve...Vegeta," Goku whispered, his sanity returning to him.
"Nooooooo!!!!" Goten screamed raggedly. He dropped to the ground in a heap, sobbing uncontrollably. "No."
"Goten," Goku said softly. He went to the boy and gathered him into his arms, cradling him against his chest.
Goku reached one hand up to his forehead and used his instant transmission to take them both back to Capsule Corp.
