CHAPTER 12: RETREIVAL

She flew over the small cities and mountain ranges of New Earth. Marley climbed higher and then let herself freefall down to the ground all most and jetted upward again. She loved flying. It calmed her.

The Box was calling her; she always heard it, even if she was holding it. It sang its lonely song. She remembered the first time she heard it, when she was younger.

"What is that noise?" She remembered her childhood experience "Is it trying to tell me something?" The voice sang louder. "Where are you, do you need help?" She ran in the direction she thought it came from. The closer she got the louder it sang.

She then came upon a small box. She touched it and it spoke, "Do you have the Key young one?"

"I have a key," she replied.

"No physical key will open my secrets, you must have the Key," it said.

"Maybe my key is the Key you want, no one can see it. My daddy said it rests in my soul. He says someday that a box will call to me and I have to open it for him, because he can't do it himself."

"You may indeed have the Key needed. Dare and open me, if you wish to know my secrets."

"What will I see?" she asked, a little scared.

"Different people see different things, some see the Present, some see the Past, and then there are those who see the Future," it answered.

"Well since my daddy wants to see the future I think I'll see that thank you."

"We shall see. Open me and we shall see."

Marley woke from her daydream. She felt a power coming towards her, a Saiyan. She raced forward, faster and faster. She could hear the singing very loudly, it was calling to her again. Then a hand grabbed her wrist and turned her around in mid-air. It was Gohan.

"What do you want?" She asked in an anxious voice, but not an angry one.

"Where do you think your going?"

Her eyes pleaded with him. "You don't understand. It is calling me. I've been away too long. The Box needs me. It sings for me."

He let her go, surprised. "You hear it too?"

"I always hear it."

"So that is what I heard."

"How do you hear it, I have the Key!" It was her turn to be surprised.

"Well I don't anymore," he looked away. "But I use to. It was always there."

Marley looked at him carefully, "I think it is time for you to leave."

"Are you running away?" he asked in a worried voice.

"Where would I go? I don't even have a spaceship, well a functional one anyway. Besides," she smiled, "your mother still owes me a meal for saving your life."

He laughed and smiled at her. Then he turned more serious, and floated closer to her, until he was inches from her face. Emotions she had never felt before swelled in her chest as he grabbed her hand. He looked into her eyes and she couldn't help a little butterfly in her stomach, his eyes were so beautiful.

"Gohan," she whispered. He came closer still. Then her emergency defense system kicked in and her cold stare returned and she backed up, "I've got to go."

She flew away. She turned just slightly and saw him floating backwards, a shocked and surprised look on his face. And then he jetted off. Marley felt a tear run down her cheek. So she officially had another weakness, Gohan. Surprisingly, she was okay with it.

She flew towards the music of the Box, still confused about her feelings and Gohan. You got yourself in this mess you know. You could have let him die and just taken the Key as it exited with his soul like you did with the others. But no you had to put yourself through all the trouble and pain. Now you are in a bigger mess than you were in before. But…it was a nice feeling. Snap out of it. Now were is that Box.

She landed in the clearing she had first landed on seven days ago. She lifted the dirt easy enough and the Box floated out with ease. She grabbed the Box out of the air and let the chunk of rock fall.

Hello again child, it spoke into her mind. I was wondering when you would retrieve me.

"Hello Box. I'm sorry I had to burry you. I needed to keep you safe. Do you mind if I open you, I need to see the Future again."

What happened to the other Key bearer? I couldn't feel you for a while, I was worried.

"I had to hide the Key too, sorry, it was the only way. But you are safe again. I can protect you. Now I really need to see the future, I feel something terrible coming."
