So everyday, since the fight, Yasai would take care of Vegeta as if the older man was his own child. He would feed, clean, and dress him, because Vegeta was so weak and severly injured that he could barely move.

Yasai did not look the same. Nor did he act the same.

Since the first day, Vegeta told him that now, the young boy would have to take in the responsibilities Vegeta had. He would have to hunt for food, gather wood for the stove, and several other things. The first day that he set out to do those tasks, he came back crying, because he had been frightening by a deer he was supposed to kill.

Vegeta was greatly disappointed by this, because his own son had been scared by a harmless doe. But, he did not want to wreck his confidence, so he told Yasai that he should go get some smaller animals instead.

So, after an hour or two, Yasai came back with two, plump rabbits.

Vegeta was pleased, but he knew that what he had gotten was not enough, because their Saiyan-sized appetite would at require ten rabbits at the least. But, he knew it was better than nothing at all.

Yasai had insisted that Vegeta take both, because he was older, or to at least take one and half of the other, but Vegeta said that was not fair, because Yasai had been the one who hunted, and the boy must have been awfully hungry by now

Yasai sighed and tried to start up the fire in the stove. Then after a while Vegeta told him how to turn it on, because the boy was clueless at the point.

The yound child skinned the rabbit and took out the insides while the stove warmed up. He seasoned it with some of the herbs that he had gathered outside, then put it into the oven.

The heat coming from the stove warmed the room slightly, and the smell of the cooking meat became stronger.

Vegeta sighed, then went deep into thought.

If I hadn't been so much of a weakling I wouldn't be so badly beat up.

He felt tears well up into his eyes again.

The feeling of tears filling his eyes again only shamed him more, what kind of a prince cried?

But then again, he wondered what kind of a prince would have a life more devistating than his own.

It was possible... but Vegeta doubted that anyone could have a life worse than his own.

No, Kakarot wouldn't want you crying. He would want you beating the shit out of people like you usually did... I mean he wouldn't want it.. but he'd like it more than your cries.

Vegeta could almost swear that every night, Goku's ghost would stand at the foot of his bed and say:

Vegeta, why didn't you save me? Why? I thought you loved me! You let me die!

The Prince would always stare Goku in the eyes and scream," I loved you! I couldn't save you! You told me to stay away from the fight! I would have never let you die! Please come back!"

Goku would stare at the ground and say:

No, you don't love me. Don't lie.

And then before Vegeta could say anything, the young Saiyan warrior would be gone.

The feeling of guilt would almost drown him, and he'd cry.

Yasai noticed that Vegeta was just staring into space and crying the whole time...

"Dad, you okay?" the boy asked.

Vegeta turned his neck, almost groaning in pain from the extreme feeling of hurt..

"I'm fine child. Is the rabbit ready?" he asked.

Yasai walked over to the oven, put on some oven mits so he wouldn't burn his hands, and opened the oven door.

He pulled out two medium-sized trays, with one rabbit on each tray.

"Alright... I'll feed you first, dad..." Yasai said.

Vegeta sighed slightly, then nodded.

Yasai fed him, little by little, because Vegeta's chewing was slow.

When he finished, Yasai said,"Alright.. that's... about it..."

Vegeta was still awfully hungry, but the gnawing of his stomach wasn't as bad as before.

When Yasai was done eating, he was still hungry as well, but did not whine.

"Dad... Let me clean you a bit..." Yasai said. He got a wet cloth and swiped it across Vegeta's face, cleaning away the tear stains and slight amounts of dust. The boy only cleaned his face, because though he was young, he knew that cleaning any other part of Vegeta's body (*EXCESSIVE LOUD COUGHING LOL*) wouldn't be very respectful.

"Ummm... goodnight, I suppose..." Yasai mumbled. He kissed Vegeta's forehead lightly, then walked to his room.

Vegeta watvhed Yasai walk to his room, and kept watching until he could no longer see the young boy's figure.

He shivered, and closed his eyes. He lied there, motionless, though his mind and heart were racing for some odd reason.

His stomach growled, and he frowned slightly.

The wind outside howled, wanting to creep into the house, but the sturdy, well-made house Goku built would not let it.

And Vegeta couldn't help but wonder if Goku was ever coming back.

In fact, while he was on the subject, would Kakarotto come back?

And as his mind drifted off, he fell into a deep, peaceful sleep, one that even Yasai had expected he'd never wake up from, because of his injuries. He had made it through the day, but it was very unlikely that he'd make it through the night.

But Vegeta beat the odds. The next morning, when Yasai got up, he was expecting to see that Vegeta had kicked the bucket over night. But no, his eyes were wide open, and he was waiting on Yasai.

"Dad! Good morning!" Yasai said.

"Good morning child.." Vegeta mumbled.

Yasai was overjoyed to see that Vegeta was okay.

And so days and days passed... the days became weeks... and the weeks became months...

Everyday Yasai would catch bigger game, and one day, Vegeta noticed that Yasai had a huge scar running down from the boy's forehead to his chin. The scar ruined his innocent face, but it showed that he was a warrior now... not the best, but not the worst..

As time passed, Vegeta's wounds healed, until he could get up and walk again, with some help from his little son.

During those long days, Vegeta learned the true meaning of misery. He couldn't move, he could barely speak, he was like a doll that could only think.

A vegetable, he thought, a humiliation to my name, the Saiyan race...

His thoughts would trail on, to a path leading to nowhere...

And he would aways think, before he went to bed..

Will Kakarot come back?
