Kiwik stared at the hat in wonder. Vegeta had given it to the Saiyan for a quick check, and the fact that the dragon ball had somehow been glued onto the hat in some way amused the younger.
"Well?" Vegeta asked, his arms across his chest. He was starting to loose his patience on Kiwik, because it seemed as though all he was going to do is stare at the dragon ball in amusement and practiacally drool over it.
"Good, it's fine, but sir- er, Vegeta- how exactly did you put the dragon ball on a hat?" Kiwik asked, still staring at the hat.
"Well, how should I know? I didn't put it on there, go ask Kakarot, oh wait, he's dead!" Vegeta sneered.
Kiwik stared with wide eyes, as did Yasai.
"And if we don't move our asses off the ground and go look for the dragon balls, he'll never be back!" Vegeta barked, almost on the verge of tears.
"Vegeta, please do calm down, I'm sorry, we'll leave now," Kiwik said.
A considerable amount of time passed before anyone said anything. All that could be heard to a human was the wind's soft, cold breaths, blowing the bare, ugly branches and the very few leaves left on them. Winter was almost here again, and the animals were scurrying around, preparing for the winter that was to come. It seemed almost like yesterday that Vegeta had been doing nothing but lying down on the couch, not able to move, barely able to speak.
The silence to them was quite loud, because unlike humans, their hearing, smelling, eyesight, and taste senses were much more enhanced than those of regular humans. Their extraordinary sense of hearing let them hear almost everything that was going on in the forest.
The chattering, twittering, and squacking of multiple types of birds, the growling of tigers, and the leaves on the floor rustling, when rabbits, mice, deer, meese, etc. ran over them. The noises caused a headache to all, especially to Vegeta, for some particular reaon.
"Fine, do you know where the next dragon ball is?" Vegeta asked. Another pause of silence passed, because apparently, Kiwik was still trying to get over the shock of Vegeta's sudden outburst.
"Well, um, with my scounter, I could find out where the next is. The good thing is that the lady had four, you gave me one, four plus one is five, five subtracted from seven is two, so now we only need two dragon balls. We haven't much work cut out for us, but the hunt for the dragon balls won't be an easter egg hunt at the park. It will be much more work--"
"Thank you, Kiwik, I am impressed by your knowledge. But, like you said, it will be work, so we must get to it now," Vegeta rudely interrupted. But Kiwik didn't mind the interruption.
"Alright, Vegeta," he said, pressing on a button on the side of his scounter. The machine turned on, and some strange beeping sounds were heard coming from it.
Yasai was quite amused, he had never been around much technology before, and seeing this was fascinating. What exactly did a scounter do?
"Vegeta, sir, it's a little ways from here, up in the mountains, I reckon," Kiwik informed after a while.
"You reckon?" Vegeta sneered impatiently.
"Um- I know it's there, the scounter is quite new, it shouldn't malfunction, so it must be right," Kiwik stuttered.
"It shouldn't malfunction, you say? But what if it did, and it led us to hell?" Vegeta said, his voice almost a bark instead of an actual question.
"Please, Vegeta, just trust it," Kiwik sighed.
Vegeta stayed quiet for a while, then asked," You know how to fly?"
Kiwik nodded, his bangs blowing in the wind.
"Alright. You hold the dragon balls and I hold Yasai, since my son does not know how to fly yet, and I would not trust you with him," Vegeta replied, picking Yasai up and carrying him like a baby.
Kiwik continued to nod, then picked up the five dragon balls, which shone brightly in the weak sunlight.
"Okay, let's go," Vegeta said, his feet lifting off the ground, which amused Yasai.
Kiwik nodded once more, and his body disappeared. Vegeta was very surprised, and looked around for him, just to see that the dumbass had just gone up into the sky faster than himself.
"You stupidass! What the hell do you think you're doing?" Vegeta hollered at Kiwik. So many swear words coming from his dad amused Yasai.
"Getting ready quickly," Kiwik said, smiling sheepishly.
"Kami! You're just like the baka Kakarot!" Vegeta yelled as they flew to their destination.
"You call him a baka, I thought you loved him," Kiwik said.
"Oh, yeah, can I not call him a baka? You loved Kalien, and yet he obviously called you an idiot at one point," Vegeta sneered.
"I do not love Kalien!" Kiwik screeched, which made Vegeta snicker.
"Sure you don't, say you don't, but I know you do," Vegeta replied coolly.
All was silent then.
The wind roared in their ears as they flew, and Yasai kept looking down at the ground, amused that they were so high up that all the houses and buildings of the big city seemed nothing more as specks on the ground.
A bird flew just under him, and Yasai giggled. He reached down, struggling in Vegeta's arms, twisting and turning in his grip, trying to get the bird.
After an amount of time, Vegeta's arms slipped from around Yasai's waist.
And the boy fell.
Vegeta and Kiwik stared in shock for a while, then after the slight pause of silence from the shock, Vegeta screamed.
"YASAI!" he screamed, then tried to save his falling son.
"DAD! HELP ME! I- I CAN'T FLY!" Yasai screamed as he went down, until his figure was nothing but a blob.
"KIWIK! YOU ASSHOLE! HELP ME!" Vegeta yelled as he flew down.
Kiwik stood there for a while, then remembering that his own fate depended on what Vegeta thought of him. And he dove down.
"Vegeta! How do you supposed we'll get him!" Kiwik yelled once Vegeta was right beside him.
Vegeta turned around to face the younger Saiyan, his facial expression a display of utter desperation. "You go down there and catch him if he falls!" he hollered.
Kiwik nodded, then flew as fast as he could to ground, while Vegeta looked around desperately in the air.
And when Kiwik reach 'the ground' he practically died.
Instead of any type of land, there was a lake. The water seemed extremely deep, and he feared the worst for Yasai. By now, he probably would have reached the bottom... not a good sign!
Vegeta quickly caught up to Kiwik, then practically jumped on him, screaming," Did you find him?! Oh please Kiwik, tell me you found him!"
Kiwik's throat suddenly became dry. "Vegeta... he... probably... most likely drowned.. I'm sorry.." he whispered silently, so that perhaps Vegeta didn't hear him.
But his luck proved little.
"No! I didn't loose him! I can't! I can't!" Vegeta wailed in anger.
"Vegeta, he- he- oh I'm so sorry..." Kiwik said.
And Kiwik had never heard anything more horrible and depressing than Vegeta's cries. Kiwik felt a knot in his throat choking him, forcing him to cry. But he refused. He just couldn't cry.
As Vegeta cried, there was a small voice, screaming out from a far distance.
"Father! Kiwik! Up here!"
Kiwik and Vegeta's eyes widened in surprised. "It's Yasai! He's okay!" Kiwik screamed, then flew up into the air.
"You dumbass! Wait for me!" Vegeta yelled, flying higher into the sky as well.
Wow... such a belligerent man...
As they reached the sorce of the screaming, Yasai's figure was visible once more.
Vegeta couldn't be anymore relieved than he already was. It felt as though a load had been taken from the pit of his stomach.
"Yasai!" he screamed, hugging Yasai in a death grip.
"Dad... not.. so.. harshly..." Yasai gasped as he was squeezed.
Vegeta let go when he thought that the time was right, then stared wide-eyed at the young boy. "You can fly! You can fly, my son," he mused.
"Huh? Oh... I suppose so..." Yasai muttered, rubbing his forehead with his thumb and middle finger.
Kiwik smiled, then said," Well, there is no great loss without some gain. Or whatever fits in the situation."
Vegeta smiled and nodded, then looked at Kiwik. "Well, the good thing is that noone has kicked the bucket yet. As much as I'd love to celebrate Yasai's learning how to fly, I think we should collect that dragon ball," he said, glancing at the scounter quickly.
Kiwik nodded, then looked to his left.
"That dragon ball is pretty close now, you know," he said.
Vegeta nodded, then he quickly turned to Kiwik. "Wait, didn't your scounter explode when we first fought?"
Kiwik nodded. "Umm, yeah, why's that?" he asked.
Vegeta just stared. "Well... if it exploded, then how is it that you have it on right now?" he asked.
"Well.. I repaired it of course," Kiwik replied.
"Even if it had exploded?"
"Yup."
Vegeta just nodded, then stayed quiet as they flew off again. Yasai no longer needed to be carried, which took a load of work off of Vegeta's shoulders, but still, now and then, Yasai would stop flying suddenly for some strange reason. But, of course, after a few moments, he'd continue flying.
Honestly, he wasn't really used the feeling flying provided. It made his heart flutter in his chest like mad. It gave him this queezy feeling as well.
After another while, Kiwikk smiled, then said,"Hey, the dragon ball, it's right under us."
Vegeta smirked. "Well done."
They went down, but quickly stopped, because the landscape in the place was mountainous. It was very likely it would be up in the higher elevations.
"Alright, it's just a bit lower down, come along, Vegeta and son," Kiwik said.
"Dude, Kiwik, I'm not a child," Vegeta grumbled. Kiwik just sighed and nodded, because he did not want to start a fight with the prince, because he knew that he surely would not win.
Yasai just giggled as they went down to ground, about half way up a medium-sized mountain. They looked around, the scounter beeping loudly as Kiwik tried to locate the dragon ball.
The landscape here was a bit more different, there were multiple snowy hills, the land seemed a bit tilted, which made Yasai slightly dizzy. His tail straightened out behind him so he could keep balance, in case he were to fall.
"Alright, it's a few hundred feet from here, up the mountain," Kiwik informed after a while. Vegeta plainly nodded as they trampled up the mountain, their feet making prints in the mud on the ground. The slushiness and the disgusting color of the mud was repulsing to them, but they did their best to ignore it.
Yasai tired easily, so Vegeta had to carry him. And it annoyed him much when Yasai fell asleep in his arms.
Oh, the annoyance boiling up in him right now...
But they continued up the mountains, and soon, they were able to hear the sounds of talking, laughing, and screaming. Not critical screaming, like when Vegeta would beat the hell out of someone, but playful screams, like those of a child.
"It's in a village," Kiwik whispered. Vegeta nodded, then tilted his head to the side.
"And how do you plan on getting it?" he asked the younger Saiyan.
Kiwik thought about it, then said," Ask for it?"
Now, that made Vegeta laugh like mad, his laughs waking up Yasai, and alarming the village of people.
"Oh, you really think that? Ask for it? I've never heard anything more ridiculous!" he laughed hysterically.
"Vegeta..." Kiwik whispered, pointing at the villagers. Yasai stared in surprise, and in some fear as to what would happen next.
"Eh?" the prince asked, then noticed the villagers. One of the men, a young man no older than twenty years, with blonde hair, icy blue eyes, and pale white skin, approached them with a rifle. He looked at the children behind him, then said," Stay back!"
Vegeta and Yasai did nothing but stare. Kiwik did the same.
"What do you three want?" the young man barked at them, temptingly pointing the rifle at Vegeta.
Vegeta chuckled slightly, then said," My, my, what cute toys you have!"
The man growled ferociously, then the gun went off, the bullet going for Yasai.
Kiwik gasped slightly.
Yasai smiled, then bent over backwards, so his body seemed like an arch. The bullet flew over him, heading quickly for Vegeta.
Vegeta swiftly caught it in his fist, then clenched his closed fist tightly. When he reopened it, the bullet was reduced to nothing more than dust.
The man sweatdropped when that happened, then he shot at Kiwik.
Kiwik smirked, then let the bullet hit him. When it came into contact with his armor, it shattered into pieces.
The man gasped, then yelled," What kind of monsters are you?"
"Oh, you don't want to know," Yasai replied, then he gave the man a deadly glare. "Give us the dragon ball," he then ordered.
"What is that?" the man asked.
Yasai groaned in frustration. His hand dug into his pocket until he found the mystical sphere.
"This," he started, showing them the small, orange sphere," is a dragon ball."
Now, the man instantly reconginized the item, it was on one of his wife's necklaces. He hadn't known exactly what it was, but seeig that it was quite unique and its shine brilliant, it was worth alot of money. His village was poor- it had been ever since his father had been brutally murdered. The dragon ball could help with their money issues. But their lives were on the line as well, if he were to say that he did in fact have it, but didn't want to give it to them.
But the money... it would help the children... he's heard rumors from one of the eldest ladies that 'The sphere was said to be worth about two hundred thousand zenie each, and according to legend, there were seven in total'. Though he had only one, it would come to great benefits for everyone...
But the safety of the kids... he had his own family now, two young girls, and a wife, and his elder mother, along with many companions- ones he has had since he was small, during the days they would all hunt for small animals for their skins and meat and bones...
And he came to decision after a long while of deafening silence..
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he stated, hands on hips in a feminine pose.
"Look, MAN, the scounter says it's here! The scounter is NOT wrong!" Yasai yelled.
"I don't have it!" the man barked at Yasai.
"Give it!" Yasai screamed.
"Musuko-sama! Do as he says!" a young woman (who was apparently his wife) shouted from behind.
"Shut up Pemienta! You really don't know how dangerous this is, do you?" he barked.
"Just do it!" Pemienta groaned.
"They have to promise to never disrupt the village then!" Musuko yelled.
"Just give us the goddamn dragon ball!" Yasai screamed, a huge, hideous vein bulging out of his neck... nasty..
Musuko stared in horror, then ran to one of the larger huts. Vegeta and Kiwik were dumbfounded.
Vegeta couldn't believe what Yasai was doing.
Yasai... my sweet little angel... what happened to you?
The man came back, holding the small dragon ball.
"Here, have it," he said. He tossed over to Yasai carelessly. The boy caught it and smirked.
"You made the right choice, earthling," Yasai said, the sickening smirk still on his face.
It just plainly shocked Vegeta to see his own son doing that, considering how innocent he had always been. Why the sudden change? Why was this happening?
"Leave. Now," Musuko warned, still shaking from fear, his face trying to twist into a serious scowl, one that would intimidate Yasai, Vegeta, and Kiwik. But that proved almost impossible.
Yasai shrugged and started to walk away, dragon ball in hand. It was alot easier than he thought it would be. Finding the last dragon ball would be a breeze.
And of course, Vegeta and Kiwik just followed along... feeling almost powerless against the five-year-old boy.
What the hell had just happened? A five-year-old just intimidated a twenty year old man, and his father? No... that wasn't right!
As they walked, Vegeta ran up to Yasai, then asked," Yasai... what was that... agressiveness all about?"
Yasai stared at Vegeta. "Dad.. I had to be assertive to get the dragon ball back."
Vegeta chuckled slightly, along with Kiwik.
"Son... there is a difference between 'assertive' and 'aggresive'."
Yasai's eyes welled up with tears.
"But Daddy, with the dragon balls, we'll be able to wish back father. Don't you want to see father again?" he asked.
Vegeta thought about it, then burst into tears, because even with Yasai, and the cheerful, unusual Saiyan Kiwik...
... He was still broken without Goku.

Yasai... my sweet little angel... what happened to you?
