Holiday – Day 2

“Another one?” Bulma asked, catching the box Vegeta dropped over the banister to her.

“If you don’t want it . . .“

“I didn’t say that!” she exclaimed, clutching the box tightly in case he were to fly down and take it back.  “I’m just a little surprised, that’s all.”

Vegeta grunted and climbed the rest of the stairs to their bedroom.

Bulma carried the box into the kitchen and set it on the table.  While she poured a cup of coffee, she wondered what could possibly be going on.  It wasn’t even close to her birthday or any significant date in their relationship.  They hadn’t been fighting, so the gifts weren’t meant to soothe her.  She was at a loss.

She slid the ribbon off the long box, flipped the top up on its tiny hinges and picked the contents off the black silk liner.  Hanging from a delicate chain of silver was a gem even she - a jewelry connoisseur - didn’t recognize.  It was milky white, almost ghostly, and round as a pearl, yet not glossy.  It was almost as if Vegeta had taken the very moon from the night sky and given it to her.

Rare for her, Bulma was speechless.
