Chapter XI
The sun was slipping over the horizon when the two fighters called it quits. Dropping to the grass, her gi twice as damaged before, Kaeru sprawled out, breathing hard.
Blood smeared down the left side of her face, causing her to close the eye in squint. Piccolo stood above her, arms at his sides, a small smirk tugging at his lip. "It would seem we are evenly matched."
"Ahh, hell no. I just letcha win." she said tartly. "I didn't wanna damage your ego, considering that you would have been beaten up by a girl."
Piccolo growled softly. Kaeru pushed herself up, leaning back on her elbows. "Calm down.. I was only joking." Scratching her head, she made a face, when she withdrew her fingers, to find them streaked with blood. Flaking away the dried stuff on her scalp, she grumbled. "Shit. I need a bath."
"Let's get back to the Lookout, then."
"Meh. I'll hang out here for a while, if you don't mind." Standing with a groan, Kaeru smoothed what was left of her gi. Sniffing the air, she turned, to face north. "I smell water. ..I'll get cleaned up here, and come back when I'm finished."
He crossed his arms. "I see. You're still worried about last night." Sighing, Piccolo looked south, prepared to make his exit.
"Hey..." A gentle hand was placed upon his shoulder. Glancing over his shoulder, he raised a brow.
"Eh?"
"...thanks. For.." her words were hesitant. "For helping."
The Nameckjin grinned a little. "It was the least I could do."
"Catch ya later, then." She nodded, as both flew off in seperate directions.
Finding the water was easy. But the fact that it was occupied already, well, Kaeru wasn't expecting that. She burst from the trees like a gunshot, not having realized this. The strange reptillian beasts, which had bodies like pterodactyls, but were built like sumo wrestlers, were congregated around the pool. Squawking and splashing each other, the younger ones played in the center of the water, the elders sat at the edge. "Ah... shit."
Two dozen lance-shaped heads turned in her direction simultaneously, the adults opening their beaks to reveal two rows of razor sharp teeth. The largest, a male, purple in color, growled, and lumbered forward, until Kaeru stood in the shadow of his immense bulk.
"Uhm... hi." she squeaked. "I didn't know this pool was uhm... in use..." Holding her hands up, as a sign of surrender, she began to back up slowly, reflexively coiling her tail around her waist, where it would be safe.
"You're intruding on our territory...Huh?" Cocking his head, the fin protruding from his cranium causing enough of a gust to rattle the leaves from the trees, he stared at her. "You've got a tail."
"Yeah..." Laughing nervously, Kaeru tried her best to act casual. "I hope that's not a bad thing..."
Lowering himself so that his distended stomach brushed the ground, the saurian creature prodded Kaeru's belly with a blunt claw. "You a friend of that kid?"
"...what kid...?" Kaeru swayed to and fro under the poke.
"He was a little squirt. Had a tail and wacky hair." Scrutinizing the humanoid monkey, he tried to remember the 'squirt's' name. "He beat my dad in the Tenkaichi Boudokai a while ago. I think my dad called him Gokou."
*Okay. Now here's the tough part. Do I admit to knowing him, and quite possibly have to stand in as Gokou for a bunch of revenge-seeking dinosaurs?* Kaeru fidgeted, an uneasy smile on her face, eyes averted. The tips of her index fingers touched, as she tried to think of the best answer that wouldn't get herself in a lot of trouble. "Uhm... yeah..he's.. a friend?"
Looking over his shoulders, he honked to the rest of his pack. They instantly surrounded her, the children peering through the legs of the adults.
"Shit. Wrong answer, ne?"
But a fight wasn't on the minds of the animals, as the alpha male leaned back in to Kaeru again. "You give him our regards, eh?" He patted her on the head, nearly pounding her into the ground in the process. "Any friend of Gokou is a friend of ours."
Suffice to say, the Saiyajin hybrid nearly fainted.
"If you ever need to use this pool again, don't hesitate to ask." Opening his wings, the rest of his family following suit, they prepared to take off.
"Uh... what's your name? So that I can tell him when I see him." Watching as they rose into the air, she saw the purple male smile.
"My dad is Giran. I'm Giran Jr."
"O..kay." Kaeru watched the pack fly off somewhere. She then nearly collapsed. "I never should have gotten up today. Nope."
