Chapter 5
Teancha was sobbing quietly within Goku's arms. It had been a close call as far as the warrior was concerned. The child had managed to release the energy harmlessly. He looked over at what was left of the island.
Well, almost harmlessly. She still need to work on her control.
The Prince was still a little shaken up and looking thoughtful as he stood a little ways off. His back was to them so he could not see what expression Vegita was wearing.
:Guess I blew things this time,: Goku mused to himself, :Vegita is not going to agree to caring for this little one. Well, there is always Piccolo. After all, he did train my oldest son, Gohan.:
He smiled down at the girl whose silver locks shone in the sun. The earlier demonstration of her powers had tired her out. She yawned and lay her head upon his shoulder trustingly. This little one had a great heart full of love. Perhaps he was better off sending her to Piccolo for training. Vegita was not known for demonstrating affection.
:You will break many hearts someday,: he kissed her forehead as she closed her green eyes giving in to her exhaustion. He studied her sleeping features trying to puzzle out who she took after the most. In her was the union of the Sons and the Briefs. Whose genes had proved to be the most dominate?
Was there a trace of him in her open smile? Her wide green eyes were very expressive putting him in mind of Bulma. Her long, silver hair came from her mother who was the granddaughter to Trunks. Her stubborn chin and that trademark smirk could only have come from Vegita.
There was a strong dose of determination and grit in her character. She was protective towards those who she cared for. Then there was that streak of pure mischief in her that put him in mind of Goten and Trunks. The most amazing thing about her was her speed. He had never seen anyone that young, move so swiftly. And her maneuverability? Where had she learned those tricks?
" I should have approached Piccolo first. I can trust you to keep this episode under wraps. Right," he addressed the other Saiyan.
" Piccolo? What are you muttering about Kakarrot?" Vegita asked irritably without bothering to turn around and face him.
" Teancha's trainer."
" Piccolo," the word was a curse, " that Namek train the brat? Are you brain damaged?"
" Huh," Goku looked up from studying the sleeping form of the girl under discussion, " He did train my son," he said in a reasonable tone.
" And look what you ended up with. The first time in battle he froze from fright. If he had been under my command he never would have hesitated."
Scratching his head a little puzzled he eyed the other Saiyan. Was his ears working right? Vegita was actually considering the task of training Teancha? What had happened to change his mind? Sometimes he just could not figure out what made his rival tick.
" You want to train her?"
The Prince turned to scowl fiercely at him, " Don't state the obvious. She is in need of someone who is qualified to train her. A Saiyan of the blood," he emphasized the words, " That Namek won't do. She would swat him flat then where would you be?"
" Uh..."
He smirked in triumph while Goku just shook his head in disbelief.
" If this is what you want, Vegita."
" It is," came the stiff reply as if he were choking on the words.
" I place her into your custody. This job is not to be handled lightly. You can not ignore her all hours of the day. She will need supervision when she is not in training. What will you do when she wakes up in the middle of the night crying?"
The Prince leveled a fierce stare in his direction.
" Vegita, she is a child, not a little soldier that can be ordered around."
" I will not coddle her," he looked away a strange look in his dark ebony eyes, "I will not ignore her existence," his gaze was searing.
" She needs to know that there is someone there for her to depend upon," he would not back down. He could see the other was struggling with some deep, hidden emotion. Was there something about Teancha's plight that reminded the Prince of when he was younger and forcibly taken from his place of safety?
" I will be there for her," he promised as if the words were being ripped from him.
Goku nodded, though he was far from satisfied. Time was running out for him. Gently, he shook the girl awake. She came awake, abruptly her ki powering up until she saw that she was in safe surroundings. He could hear the Prince breath a little uneasily as she powered down.
He set the child down on her feet then knelt until he was at eye-level with her, "Tean, I need for you to be very brave for me. I have to leave now," she began to shake her head, " This man is your grandfather. I want you to go with him."
Her bottom lip began to tremble, " I want to stay with you."
He kissed her forehead then hugged her fiercely one last time before stepping away his eyes shuttered.
" Grandpa," she reached out her little hands. He paused looked down at her then turned and began walking away. " Grandpa, don't leave me," she cried out in agony. There was a slight hesitation in his step but he kept on walking.
" Grandpa," she screamed.
He turned once, waved sadly, then disappeared.
" I don't want to be alone," she whispered tears trailing down her face, " I don't want to be alone. Please don't leave me alone..."
Thus ends part 4. I promise the next one will not be so sad. This next one will hold some humor in it. It will take place a few years later else this story will be a saga. I know this one was a little short but I did not want to overdo things. Keep reviewing
