Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Fairy Tale ❯ Chapter 1
Many years ago, in a far away kingdom named Vegeta-sei, a cruel King Vegeta ruled. He was a tyrant, so greedy that he never took a mate, unwilling to share his power with the chosen partner.
In a village not far from the capital a family dwelled: Toma, his mate Bardock and their 10 years old boy- Radditz. Bardock was the one to give birth to him despite being a male where it counted. They were far from being rich but they were very happy together. In addition, Bardock had the talent to comfort wounded spirits, so even the rich Elites came to him, to spill their problems on his broad, tanned shoulder and he always tried his best to help- to find a mate for a low- class boy, to collect some money to buy back a relative from slavery (here's something Bardock hated about the king- the mere word `slavery' made him sick), to tutor a child for coming of age rituals. Despite being so famous for his kindness and ability to help, he always had time to play with his child, and every night before they fell asleep, he sang a lullaby to him, the same one, the one he wrote for him.
One day, during a report to the King a small package fell from the pocket of an Elite soldier, with Bardock's name of it.
"What is this?" The king asked.
"This is a mere gift to a person who helped my son."
"I see. Is this the same Bardock the rumors talk about? The healer whose fame is second only to his passion and kindness?"
"It is."
"You may leave."
The King gave it a thought. He was kind of lonely, and legends about Bardock's looks and kindness were extensive. So he disguised himself as a simple peasant and went to see what the mess is all about.
He saw a group of Saiyans sitting in a circle around a tall Saiyan, who was busy explaining to them something. The King approached and the Saiyan who spoke smiled:
"Another friend, you're welcome to join us. Are you hungry? Thirsty?" His voice was deep and pleasant.
"Can I have some water please?" The King forced himself to be polite.
Bardock had never seen any picture of the king so he didn't recognize him, nor did the others who came to see the healer.
"Radditz, bring our guest the best wine you find in the house, or would you prefer tea?"
"Just water, please."
Radditz rushed and offered the King a cup of water with a bow.
"Drink and be refreshed." He said.
"Thank you, child."
"Don't thank me, sir. The water isn't mine to own, but everyone's so it's yours as well." Radditz said as he refilled the cup.
"So, how can I help you, stranger?" Bardock asked and his brown eyes shone with concern.
"I just came following the rumors about the greatest man of the kingdom."
"Oh, the rumors greatly exaggerated. I'm nothing but a simple healer." Bardock replied. "Oh, greetings, Pargas!" He addressed the Elite that the king spoke to earlier.
"I've brought you something from my travels! Whatever you've done to my dear Brolli stopped his insanity completely! He's such a sweet boy." Pargas showed forward a slender boy who smiled shyly.
"Thank you, Healer." The boy said.
"And how's your eye, dear friend?" Bardock asked once Brolli ran off with Radditz.
"I will never be the same, but 80% sight is better then nothing."
"I'm so sorry, Pargas." Bardock hugged the Elite. "I did my best to heal you."
"If it wasn't for you I would've lost the eye completely. Please, take this gift. It's the least I can offer you."
Bardock opened the package, knowing well that by the tradition not to accept the gift would insult Pargas greatly, as much as not opening it and bragging about it. Saiyans were proud and impulsive after all.
"Oh my dear… Toma, come here, beloved!" Bardock examined the necklace the package held. "It's amazing." He turned and put the necklace around Toma's neck.
"Oh, it complements your eyes so much. Thank you, Pargas!"
The minute the king saw Bardock's smile and the popularity he held, he decided that such a jewel should belong to him along. He returned to the castle and called his strongest warriors.
"Bring me Bardock. Don't kill his family though, they could be useful. Oh, and bring the necklace his mate wears. It's too good for a simple farmer."
A king's word is the law, and at the next day the kind healer was forced to kneel before Vegeta-no-Ou.
"Why did you bring me here? I've done no harm, my Liege!" Bardock said.
"From now on, you belong to me." The King got straight to business.
"I have a mate!" Bardock yelled. "You have no right…" Then it hit him. "It's you, the man who came the other week… You BASTARD! Gods, Toma won't believe it when I'll tell him…"
"Fine, go to him. But don't be shocked if an accident happens to him or your polite chibi. I believe his name is Radditz?"
"No… I'll obey, just please, spare them, spare my family."
"So, this issue is settled. Prepare him and take him to my chambers."
Bardock shrugged off the guard's hand.
"I'll walk by myself, thank you." He spat grimly. "Bastard…"
"Oh, and give him 20 lashes for insulting me." The king said.
Months passed. And one lovely day, Toma gave birth to a beautiful boy. He and Bardock were separated just few hours after they had sex and this was enough. The boy was named Kakkarot. In the same night, at the palace dungeon, after great agony, Bardock gave birth to another child, who was named Vegeta, after the father of the baby.
Vegeta was told that his male-mother died in birth, because the king was too greedy to share Bardock even with his own child. But every time the child became sick, the King would tie a blindfold over his eyes and fetch Bardock from the dungeons (he still hoped to tame the passionate spirit of the Saiyan). Bardock would attend to Vegeta-no-ouji, and every time he lulled him to sleep, reaching into the fever, with the same lullaby he used to sing to Radditz.
Years came and went. Kakkarot grew up to be a healer, just like his father, and in his looks he was a carbon copy of him- spiky hair, sparkling eyes, everything. And every night as he fell asleep, Radditz sang to him Bardock's lullaby and told him about the man.
The King often sent his son to the dungeons to see the prisoners, so his heart will harden. Only one prisoner the prince was not allowed to talk to, for the king feared that Vegeta might recognize the voice or learn the truth. But, the prisoner only used sign language to teach the prince about caring and loving and despite inheriting his father's looks and apparent cruelty Vegeta-no-ouji was a good person.
One morning, the King came and told his son:
"You're soon to come of age. Once you do, you'll marry prince Freeza from the Ice Kingdom. You've been promised to him as a baby."
"But Father, Freeza is cold and evil, not to mention his father and brother."
"Are you defying me, brat? Guards, give him 15 lashes. Maybe being punished like a common thief will teach you some manners."
Later that day, the young prince walked the garden of the palace, his back aching terribly, when he heard a sound so pleasant he couldn't believe his ears- the sound of children's laughter. He sneaked closer to see who dared to enter the forbidden palace garden.
"Hey, Bulma, pass me that apple!" A boy's voice came.
"Hey yourself, Kakkarot. But here's your apple!" A girl's voice chirped.
"Look at the fish!" Another boy's voice, older than the first one.
"Gold fish!" The other children chorused. "Yumm!"
"Actually, I wouldn't eat this fish if I were you. It's sick." Vegeta came from behind the bushes.
"Who're you?" A boy with scars on his face asked. He was the one to find the fish.
"I've Vegeta no Ouji. And you are?"
"I can't tell you, because you'll call your father and he'll have us tortured." Scar-face said.
"I hate him. And he just had me whipped, so I assure you I won't come running to him!"
"In that case, I'm Yamucha. The blue haired lady is my smart sister Bulma and the black-haired one is Chichi. And above you are Kakkarot and Radditz."
Vegeta looked up and paled. The younger of the boys looked exactly like the silent prisoner, except he had no scars on his face.
"You look like you saw a ghost!" Kakkarot said. "What's wrong, `Geta?"
"Nothing. Why are you in the garden?"
"After my daddy was taken away by the guards, Mother Toma has hard time to feed us, so we though that the king doesn't need all those fruits and fish and we decided to take some."
"Oh, be my guests. In fact, hide for a second. NAPAAAAA!" Vegeta yelled.
The children hid in the bushes as a huge guard approached. Radditz had to stifle a hiss as he recognized one of the Saiyan Elites who took his father.
"I'm hungry. Bring me food!" Vegeta ordered.
"Go to the palace." Napa suggested.
"Are you arguing with your prince? Besides, I can't sit on those palace chairs, my back hurts, thanks to YOU. So I'll eat HERE. MOVE!" Vegeta hissed and Napa ran away.
"They don't come dumber than him." Vegeta added. "Wait just 5 more minutes, the servants will fetch some food."
`Some food' was a meal large enough for 10 Saiyans. After the servants left, the children came out and dug in.
"When was the last time you ate?" Their appetite shocked Vegeta.
"Yesterday." Bulma muttered.
"What?" Vegeta's eyes went wide.
"Can I take some for our mother?" Bulma asked.
"And for Toma?" Kakkarot added.
"By all means, go ahead." Vegeta squirmed at the pain in his back.
"Let me see, I'm a healer, like my father were." Kakkarot offered.
Vegeta pulled off his shirt and Kakkarot smeared some slimy stuff over his welts.
"It feels like kissing an Ice-jin, but it will heal your back completely by the evening." The boy explained. "Listen, Vegeta, we owe you for the food, so if there's ever something that you need, let us know."
"Thank you." Vegeta bowed. "The servants are returning. Quickly, run!"
The kids grabbed some food and left. Vegeta smiled to himself. He finally had some friends.
A while later, the King invited Vegeta to the throne room and said:
"In a week, Prince Freeza will arrive to take you with him. I suggest you get ready."
Vegeta broke in tears and fled to the dungeons, only to find his prisoner friend gone. Napa was waiting for him there.
"You were told to stay away from this man. The king ordered to punish you. So do me a favor, brat, and scream!"
From a window that watched into the dungeons, the screams echoed through the palace.
"Please, don't, he's your child as well as mine!" Bardock begged, raising his chained hands in a desperate gesture.
"I've warned you. I want none of your softness in him. Now it's hell to pay."
Bardock screamed and lunged blindly at the king, only to be defeated and tossed on the bed.
"I've been too soft with you, whore! It's about time you learn your place!" The king hit him hard. "And he will marry the Ice Prince."
"One day, you'll pay for your crimes."
"By whose hand?" King Vegeta laughed at him. "Yours? Try and stop me."
Bardock bit his lip. He was indeed helpless.
5 days later, Vegeta found his way back into the garden, and saw his friends playing there as usual.
"Vegeta-kun! What happened?" Kakkarot rushed towards the boy, only to feel him flinch at the smallest touch.
"Father has given me to Freeza! And he had me tortured because I made a friend!"
"Calm down. I've promised to help you and I will." Kakkarot said. "Now sit down and let Radditz and me heal you. And we'll find a way to save you from Freeza."
Vegeta submitted to the gentle treatment and even dozed off, until he heard Kakkarot hum a familiar melody. He joined the singing and was rewarded by a look of total shock on the other boy's face.
"How do you know this song?" Radditz managed to ask.
"When I was sick, Father brought this healer, whose face I was never allowed to see, and the healer singed this song to me."
"Many years ago, the King stole my father and Ditzu's male-mother Bardock from us. They say I have his looks and kindness and Radditz has his passion and strength."
"You know, the friend I've mentioned, he looks like Kakkarot, only with a scar…"
"A cross shaped scar on his cheek. It's Bardock!" Radditz cheered. "That makes you our brother."
"And that also saves you from Freeza." Bulma said.
"How?" The rest of the gang asked.
"If the other parent objects the wedding, it's cancelled. All we need is to get Bardock to the throne room tomorrow." Bulma cheered. "Do I get a kiss, Vegeta?"
"Sure." He kissed her shyly.
Yamacha growled.
"All right! Now, how do you get into the dungeon?" Kakkarot asked.
"To get in is easy. To get out is the big deal."
"Why do you think Radditz has big hair? Trust us, just get us in."
"Allright, but you might get hurt…"
"And 16 years of being separated from your family is not a torture?" Kakkarot asked.
"Fine. I'm sorry… GUARDS!!!!" Vegeta screamed. "There's someone in MY garden!"
10 seconds later, two guards approached- a tall warrior and a short female.
"Those are not intruders!" The tall warrior said. "Those are my childhood friends, Kakkarot and Radditz!"
"Brolli!" The boys rushed to hug him.
The female smiled.
"You are Bardock's children, aren't you? Your father healed me once, so I'll let you go."
"No! We must get in."
"Then… I know! The prince wants some cuties in his bed before Freeza. WE got you some, and a healer. After all, we don't want Freeza to get damaged goods." Brolli offered.
The female smiled.
"And oops, we forgot to search you. Follow us, brats."
Vegeta just shrugged and headed to the palace.
The king heard his reasons and took it rather well.
"Fine by me, enjoy. By the way, is the healer's name Radditz?"
"Yes, Father."
"Then it's all the better. I was growing tired of my current toy anyway. I'll execute him after the wedding."
"Save me a goblet of his blood." Vegeta smirked and left.
In the dungeon, Radditz simply pulled lock picks from his hair and gave them to Yamacha. The skilled thief opened the door. Then, Bulma took off a belt she wore and the pieces turned up as parts of three guns for them. Yamacha begun to open all the doors in the dungeon, freeing the prisoners, until in the darkest corner, he found a strange cell. On a beautiful bed, covered with silk and feather gowns, a chained Saiyan slept, dressed only in a tattered loincloth. Radditz's legs gave under him but he soon recovered and approached the prisoner.
"Yamacha, Kakkarot, come here! I've found him!"
The prisoner barely opened his eyes. He lost lots of blood and he couldn't believe his senses- the lovely young man smelled like his long lost cub.
"Radditz?" He asked.
"Yes, father. And this is your younger son, Kakkarot. We thought you died. But we'll heal you. We need you 100% by tomorrow."
"Aren't you afraid of the guards?"
"What guards?" Vegeta entered the cell, licking blood from his fingers. "Did you know that the mere sight of a stuffed CARROT drives Brolli berserk?"
"I know." Bardock muttered. "I thought he got over it. Oh, well, back to square one with this boy. He'll kill about 30 people before calming down. Oh, Vegeta, it's really you!" He smiled at the prince. "This calls a group hug!"
The three boys curled up next to their parent and started planning the next day while Yamacha tried to unlock Bardock's chains.
"By the way," Bulma piped in. "If you don't smell like me, you'll father will suspect, veggie-chan."
"I hate that nickname!" Vegeta growled. "But I'll give you a scent all right." He growled and carried her from the cell.
"Kids and hormones…" Bardock smiled. "So, how did you find me?"
"It's a long story." Kakkarot said.
"And we have the whole night." Radditz said. "Let's begin the healing."
At the next morning, Vegeta emerged from the dungeon, put on his nastiest smirk and his best outfit and went to see the King.
"There you are. How was your last night off?" The old man teased.
"The female was feisty and tasty." Vegeta grinned. "And the younger boy… Kakkarot or something, he screamed like a girl."
"Good. You're finally learning. At noon, the wedding ceremony will take place. Run along for now. By the way, where's the young healer?"
"Scratching his no good brother off from the bed."
"Brother?"
"Yeah. Like `please, spare my brother, great prince'. Oh, and did Brolli kill Nappa?"
"You could say that being torn to shreds is killing."
"Good riddance of bad rubbish. Farewell, Father." Vegeta bowed and left.
"Same goes for you, brat!" The king whispered.
On the noon, a large group of Elites gathered to watch the wedding ceremony. Freeza was even worse in reality than on the pictures Vegeta had seen, looking like a drag queen lizard.
"So, where is the lovely prince?" He asked in his teasing tone.
"Here I am." Vegeta entered the hall. He was dressed like a third class, red wrist warmers, one hand behind his back hiding something, white armor with open shoulders, and black boots.
"What is the meaning of this, son?" The King asked.
"I'm dressed the way my male-mother dressed me. I refuse to marry this slimy thing!"
"You can't refuse. I'm your sire and I order you…"
"You won't order anything, Vegeta no Ou." Bardock's hoarse voice rang. "I am the boys birth mother and I forbid such a union."
"Guards, cease this whore."
The young team came out from behind the curtains, holding guns, only Kakkarot unarmed.
"Touch my dad and die." The boy promised.
"I said cease him! And kill the brats!" The King roared.
"Oh, Brolli, look, a stuffed CARROT!" Vegeta showed his hidden hand. "Here, Father, catch!"
And before the king had any chance to respond, somebody or something moved faster than the eye and tore the King's head off.
"Now, as for you, Freeza…" The prince smiled. "I believe you know where the door is."
"I'll get you for this, prince Vegeta."
"Oh, we're so scared." The team chorused.
Freeza chose to high tail it.
"And now, since there's a crowd for a wedding, what do you say, annoying woman, should we get married?" Vegeta addressed Bulma.
"Sure, why not. And my name is BULMA, not WOMAN!"
Bardock hugged Kakkarot and Radditz smiling happily as the young prince kissed hit soon to be mate.
"Oh, but before that, here are my royal orders. Bardock, you and your family are welcome to stay here. I assure you that you will come to no harm. Yamacha, I take your sister and reward you with enough gold to last you and your family a lifetime. And somebody, shoot Brolli with a tranquilizer, please."
And they lived happily for ever after.
The end.
