Fallen Eden
Chapter 2
It had been 3 months since Zarbon had spoken to Briefs, they had communicated frequently, discussing developments throughout the galaxy, however depressing they may be Zarbon still relayed them to the Doctor, and sometimes simply to lighten the mood, the Doctor would bring other subjects into the light such as Brief's young daughter or the new recipe that his wife had cooked up, who had been eager to see the green skinned man since he had left. And so here he was, 1 hour to go until landing upon a field enclosed by woodland, ready to reconvene with the Briefs family.
This wasn't an entirely pleasure bound trip, he supposed that he would initially be greeted warmly before the in-depth discussions began. Their next move was already decided, that was the whole reason he had spent that time travelling to Earth. He was going to pick up Doctor Briefs and return to the Saiyan Empire. He had spent much of those 3 months contacting old acquaintances that would perhaps have some talent or information that could be beneficial to their operation. He had gathered some support but nowhere near as much as he had hoped, there was one person he was particularly glad he had managed to persuade to join him. He had not seen them for a long time, they had spent a lot of their youths causing havoc together, it had been a shame when they had had to part ways. He drew his hand through his long hair, still damp from his time spent in the cleansing chamber. Sitting on his bed he split his dark emerald strands into three sections and began to braid, as he reminisced on his friend silently.
He hadn't always been so opposed to Freeza and schemes. But he had no immediate plans of informing Briefs of his past. It could jeopardise what they had been working for for over two years, and in that time the small snatches of reprieve he had managed to capture and spend on Earth had been amongst his most pleasurable. It was a different kind of pleasure, he could spend many nights with women in space, but it was different on Earth, it was not what he went for. Of course he went to meet with Briefs, that was mandatory, but it had been his young child of a daughter that had made him feel things he shouldn't. When he looked at her he didn't feel the knowledge burn him deep inside that he was keeping him alive for information or for some gain, she was barely a year old - she had nothing that could benefit him in any way.
It was something far different from anything he had experienced thus far in his life, in the far reaches deep in the back of his mind he knew that he had grown slightly fond of the nappy-clad youngster. Whether it was the hair colour that so closely resembled his own, or the sweetness and innocence that radiated from her chubby smile he didn't know but something about her had made him stick around those times in the past when his resolve had perhaps been at breaking point, and he had nearly fled from everything he had worked so hard for.
He was broken from his thoughts as the computer announced that the ship was about to enter Earth's atmosphere on a stealth trajectory. He was used to getting on to planets while the inhabitants remained none the wiser, but that was normally because he wanted information or to 'acquire' something, not because the population had no idea they weren't the only semi intelligent beings in the universe. Sure there were some remarkably smart people he had met on Earth, but from what he had witnessed covertly through a spying device in the Briefs home (He had managed to activate the black plastic box in the living room one day while he was alone, and he witnessed footage of people living in a place called Dallas) was that many were fickle, self obsessed and quite vain. He couldn't understand the dialects or phrases some of them used, but he understood the basics of what they were saying.
He tutted to himself lightly, tying his braided hair back. He stood and moved to a metal case at the end of the bed, opening it to reveal his shoes, clothes and similar items. Pulling out what he had intended to wear, he noticed a tear forming at the seams of the sleeve and threw it aside. “Fucks sake.” He cursed softly; the rest of his clothes also needed repairs, leaving him with only one thing to wear. It was only as he dropped the cloth around his waist and pulled on his only surviving armour, that he realised he had spoken in Human terms. English, wasn't it? He hadn't spoken his native language in 20 years, but then, he hadn't needed to...
He cleared his throat savagely, flashes of anger sparked behind his amber eyes as he tried to dispel thoughts of his homeland. Instead he decided to dwell on the Humans, and their cacophony of noise they called communication. The concept of one single planet, having such a vast multitude of dialects and languages was beyond him, as a species they could barely communicate with each other! How on Earth would they manage to deal with the thousands of species in the universe, if they could barely get along by themselves? He shook off these pointless thoughts as he briskly walked to the Command of the ship, he had about 10 minutes before landing and he wanted to double check his landing coordinates.

His slimline metallic hull absorbed the incredible heat that was generated, the smart engineering of the craft meant that this heat wouldn't simply go to waste, it would be used to power the ship, basically a free way of charging the ships engines. Free was almost always good, and this was something himself and Brief's wife agreed upon. He wouldn't go as far as saying that he had a friendship with her, they simply had things in common. He liked taking things for free, and she liked giving things away, it was a perfect match.
The ship was controlled by auto flight when in space, a clever design to say the least, he had only heard of a few ships that had such a mechanism, and he knew they were far out of his league, he would have to save ten lives of currency. Luckily he had gotten this one for free. As he passed through the atmosphere of the Earth, he took control of the ships navigation, and cruised on a descent towards his destination. It took less than 4 minutes to arrive above the intended field, and he began his landing as the ships tripod legs appeared out of the underside of the sleek ship.

Briefs was sat upon the chequered blanket, a little girl lay beside him with a ladybug skittering about on her hair, he brushed it away lightly but with slight difficulty as he had a sandwich triangle in one hand and a glass of clear fizzing liquid in the other, and it was then that he saw the ship high in the sky. “He's here!”
He shouted over to his wife who was investigating a tall tree, trying to pick a fruit off the hanging branches, but not quite able to even on her tiptoes. When she heard her husband, she stopped her efforts and rushed over to him, picking up her once dozing daughter who had woken from the shout.
The ship landed with ease, and after a moment the cargo doors opened wide revealing Zarbon clothed in his best amour. “Zarbon dear! Come down, come! We've got plenty of food, you must be starving from your travelling!” Mrs. Briefs beckoned him with a pleasing smile.
He half bowed to her, and made his way down the ramp. His eyes softened as they fixed on their daughter, he wouldn't tell anyone but he had practised saying her name so that he did not make a fool of himself in front of the Briefs when he finally saw her again. He walked up to the leggy blonde who looked dazzling in the sun, who coincidently reached up and placed a swift polite kiss on his cheek, it had taken a little time but he had grown accustomed to her friendly affections. “Mrs. Briefs, it is good to see you again, I am pleased to see that you are in good health. How is,” He almost seemed to hesitate before the next word. “Bulma?”
The young girl gurgled happily as she tried to reach up and grab his hair.
Mrs. Briefs giggled happily, “Well, she's a right terror! She's teething like there's no tomorrow, we'll be lucky for a good nights sleep in the next few months! But all's well, that ends well as the saying goes!”
Zarbon didn't really understand, so he just nodded. He turned his attention to the Doctor, “Do you want to begin discussions now?” his thoughts drifted to the picnic hamper longingly. Briefs took a sip of his drink and said after a few seconds, “Will anything you have to tell me change in the next half hour?”
Zarbon's yellow eyes glinted in the sun. He liked being in the heat, maybe it was part of his genes. “No, I don't think so.” He replied slowly.
Briefs smiled at him, “Good, get yourself a sandwich and a pork pie and get stuck in!” He plopped himself down on the blanket, and reached into the hamper. “Chicken and bacon, or salmon and cucumber?”
~*~
After three sandwiches, two pork pies, a slug of fruity wine, and a generous helping of strawberry cheesecake, Zarbon was ready to start talking. “Have you heard any more on Prince Vegeta?” Briefs enquired.
“Just that he is developing well, sources tell me he has starting using Ki.” Zarbon responded.
“Already? I thought that didn't manifest until 8 months?” Briefs was surprised by this information. Zarbon sighed and nodded once, solemnly.
“It seems our Prince is a fast learner, there is talk among the Saiyans that the rumours and intrigue surrounding the boy are more true than anyone thought. The Royal house is trying hard to keep these stories quiet, they don't need anything else to pique Freeza's interest in the boy. Reports from my various subordinates suggest that Freeza is currently located in the Daihjor Province.” Zarbon finished, expecting Briefs to speak. At seeing the slightly confused look on the Doctors face, he began again. “Daihjor is approximately five months away from the Saiyan home world, based only on Freeza's flagship maintaining a standard speed. If his Pilot was any good, and I know he is, he could manage their fuel efficiently enough to be there in 4 months at top speed.” Briefs nodded in understanding.
“Any other news?” Briefs asked, he knew there would be, he just hoped it was something good.
“Yes actually,” Zarbon paused a moment before continuing. “The Queen has been officially announced as missing in battle.” Zarbon stated point blank. Both Mr, and Mrs Briefs released shocked gasps. “How long ago?” The Doctor asked.
“Three solar days ago. I've had various reports, but nothing solid that we can rely on. If I'm not being told she has been killed, or taken by Freeza's Empire, it's that her squadron turned against her and are holding her for ransom. I have no substantial evidence to support any yet, but for one I don't believe the Saiyans would turn against her.” Zarbon reached over and grabbed a slice of quiche that Mrs. Briefs had made this morning. The pastry was crumbly and the filling was deliciously cheesy, he didn't know what the orange and red bits in it were, but they tasted good too, he might have to commission her to make more before he left.
Doctor Briefs expelled a breath of air, this news could dramatically effect their plans. “What has been the reaction of the Saiyans to her disappearance?” This could make everything so much harder, would the King even be in a fit state of mind and abilities to see the sense of their operation, when they finally got through the two~three month trek to his home world?
Zarbon finished chewing his late bite of quiche, and washed it down with a slurp of wine before he formed a reply. “There was some dissent among the people, the majority of the population actually liked Queen Evana, as opposed to being blindly loyal. They want to know what has happened to her, and to be honest I don't blame them. I've seen holo-pictures of her, she's got an arse I'd lo-”
“Yes, thanks I get the idea.” It was the Doctor who spoke. Zarbon made a small noise in his throat as he looked towards Mrs. Briefs. She was looking right back at him happily, apparently she hadn't been offended by his comment. He picked a handful of grass, and sat throwing it like one would a dagger. “Look, the bare bones of it is the Saiyans ain't happy. They've got their tails in such a twist about this, they've locked down trading routes with foreign species. I have some sources on Vejiita-sei, one inside the Palace itself. I can get us to see the King easily, as I've told you.” He paused, as an after thought he added, “You just have to be prepared, some of those Saiyan's can get nasty, so watch yourself alright? Even as He-Monkeys they have a certain type of etiquette, break it and your life ain't worth living basically. And I don't much fancy informing your darling wife here that you're dead.” He drawled in what the Briefs had dubbed his Australian accent. “You don't need to know this stuff yet.” He shook his head dismissively.
He disintegrated the remaining grass with a flash of his Ki. The young Bulma giggled, and clapped clumsily as she tried to wriggle out of her mother's grasp to crawl to him. He allowed a wry grin as she got as far as falling into the remaining cheesecake before being scooped up again. “When will you be ready to leave Doc?” He asked, while passing a handkerchief to Mrs. Briefs so she could clean Bulma's face before the child ate all the creamy sludge on her face.
“Ready now.” He moved to stand up, as Zarbon countered. “Excellent, let's get going. Thank you for the food Mrs. Briefs,” She blushed and smiled happily. “I shall wait in the ship while you say your goodbyes.” He turned and started heading inside.
Making a noise in his throat, the Doctor was just about to speak, but it was Mrs. Briefs who piped up first. “Why would he need to say goodbye?, we're coming with you sweetheart! It's going to be so much fun!” She began packing the hamper away.
Zarbon froze in his tracks, turned around, and said simply, “No.” He couldn't understand them, he thought the bloke was smart! “Briefs, your kid and wife could be killed out there. Are you seriously telling me that you would actually risk that willingly?” He couldn't believe this intelligent man had considered taking his eight month old daughter into space, into what could potentially be a battlefield if things went bad.
Doctor Briefs spoke calmly, as though he had expected a reaction such as this. “I thought about this for a long time, and I weighed up the risks, I'm not a foolish man and I wouldn't want to come across as one, but if the worst comes to the worst then it won't matter where they are will it? Freeza will find them, and he will kill them. Good or bad, I want them with me.” He stopped, watching Zarbon's face. He could sense anger emanating from the man. So he decided to end the discussion once and for all. “And as your main source of currency, I think I have the right to bring my family with me. Unless you want to find a different source of income?” He didn't want to sound harsh, but since he had been in the business world he had had to learn to be more ruthless to get what he wanted. He couldn't see himself leaving his beautiful wife and child alone, it was practically unthinkable.
Zarbon stood silently. They were damned if they did, and he was damned if they didn't. He watched Bulma starting to cry as a small spider landed on her, as she was held by her mother under the large tree beneath which they had just eaten. You will have something to cry about if you get in danger out there girly, I don't know if I can protect you. He was going to regret this tonight, it was doubtful he'd get sleep with Bulma on board after all. “Alright. Fine. But don't come whinging to me if you lot catch a space disease or something, it was your choice to bring them Briefs. So it rests on your conscience.” With that he nothing short of stormed on board, leaving them outside.
~*~
Three months later.
As they walked through the crowded streets, the lavender haired man held the laughing child against his chest. He was torn, it was good to see someone happy. But a small part of him was angry that anyone could be happy after what had happened to his family. There was only two of them now, the burden of raising a daughter rested solely on him. He winced slightly as she bounced against his broken rib. It had been a difficult journey, but it was over. They were finally here, he couldn't help but feel like it was an anti climax to what they had been through. His wife was gone, Zarbon was seriously injured, (but to the Doctors astonishment, he persevered through his pain and walked beside him) he himself had multiple injuries, bruised and broken ribs, a fractured left forearm, and a deep gash to his forehead. Bulma had only sustained slight injuries in the attack, but she still seemed to be none the wiser that she had only one parent now.
He felt his eyes begin to sting, and it was nothing at all to do with his injuries. He was broken from his thoughts as Zarbon spoke more softly than normal. “We're here.” And indeed they were he looked up to the lavish Palace, if such things could still have made him gasp in wonder then he would have done. But they didn't, and he didn't see the beauty in the richly decorated stone work walls surrounding the entrance to the Palace, or the deep red lengths of something akin to velvet that graced the tall poles either side of the gate. He barely felt the wind on his face or the breath in his lungs, he didn't know what he was feeling at that moment, he just simply stared at the Palace. This was what they had come for, and yet at that moment in time he couldn't care much less whether Freeza came and took the Prince, or killed him, or whatever he was going to do.
Zarbon stood watching his silent comrade. He didn't know what was going through his mind, and he'd probably be better off if he didn't find out. But they had to continue, and so he broke the almost awkward silence. “I have spoken to my contact inside the Palace, we have to ask for him at the gates. He'll take us to get cleaned up before we meet with the King.” There wasn't much of a response from the Doctor, apart from the smallest inclination of his head which Zarbon took as an affirmative. He inwardly sighed in angst as he looked at Bulma, she was staring up at her father, sadness in her young eyes as she outwardly expressed what it appeared he couldn't. Her eyes shone with tears and she began to cry as her father ignored her.
Zarbon felt something inside his chest contract. It seemed like a lifetime ago when he had come to the conclusion that he saw her as his baby sibling or even daughter, and his life hadn't become any easier from that revelation. He found himself coming to her when she cried, and holding her when things scared her, it seemed so out of character for him that he had tried his best to stop, to simply ignore it. But it didn't seem fair to have both of them ignoring her, someone had to take care of her after all and it seemed her father was doing his best not to be that person, in itself it was a rarity that Briefs was holding her as they walked to the Palace from the Docking port. He had seemed to be avoiding that since Mrs. Briefs had -
He lead the way as they walked to the gates, stood near to one of the two sentrys and commanded, “I am Zarbon, this is Doctor Briefs and his daughter. War Counsellor Bardock is expecting us. He told us to wait at the gates for him. Go inform him of our arrival.” The tall Saiyan guard took in the appearance of all three of them, maintaining a stoic face as he looked upon the dishevelled apparel and dirty faces. Pressing a button on his scouter he waited a moment, he was about to speak when a bleeping sounded behind them. “Damn Zarbon, what happened to you? You look worse than I do after a run in with my mate.”
All eyes turned to the armoured and well decorated Saiyan behind the gates, standing tall with his unintentional messy spikes of hair unmoving in the wind. “Ha! Bardock, I could never look as bad as you when you've done something to piss Selei off.” He let a pleased smirk grace his bruised and battered face as he greeted his long time comrade and contact in the Palace. “You gonna let us in or what?” He asked after a moment.
Bardock chuckled to himself. “No thanks, I can smell you from here.” He laughed louder at Zarbons outrage. But it was the man beside him who made him stop. “Stop fucking around and let us in, or do you actually want Freeza to continue taking everything in the Universe for himself?” Briefs practically spat the words at the Saiyan before him. Bulma made small whimpering noises at the loud words, she was resting right beneath her father's head.
Bardock looked taken aback for a second before regaining his normal composure. “Zarbon, you better teach your friend here some manners if he wants to survive when he meets the King.” He warned while glaring fiercely at the pale haired man on the other side of the gates. “Come, I'll take you to the bathing quarters.” He gestured for the guards to open the gates to let the aliens pass through. He began walking towards the large doors at the end of a long pathway, the others fell in step behind him. “During your stay you will be sleeping at the Palace, it's all been cleared with the King, he wants you comfortable while you're here. After all, you say you may have a way to stop Freeza, how else would he treat you?” Zarbon made a noise of agreement as he followed blindly, thinking of having a hot bath once again made his skin tingle.
~*~
Fully bathed and dressed in new clothes, Zarbon sat with Bulma on his knee as they waited for her Father to come out of the dressing room. He gently played with her blue hair, in the right sun it shone the same colour as his, he had never seen a species beside his own with that shade. Thinking this was a game, little Bulma reached out and grabbed his long braid of deep emerald hair. She twizzled it between her chubby short fingers, just like he was doing with her own. Deciding this wasn't fun enough, she chose a new tactic: Pulling.
“AH! Crap, you're strong for a fat bundle of joy,” He spoke the last word with thinly veiled sarcasm. He was getting better at using Human phrases now, Mrs. Briefs had taught him some. Little Bulma's face began to crumple as she saw she'd made him unhappy. “Oh, nooo don't do that pretty one. You'll make me cry too!” He bounced her on his knee while he tried to sound as happy as possible, (She seemed to like it) he wasn't completely lying either, if one of the Saiyans came along and he couldn't stop her from crying... well then he really would have something to cry about.
He was broken from his thoughts as Briefs came out of the dressing room, clothed in clean and fresh robes. He was about to speak when Bardock came striding down the hallway towards them. “Ah, much better. Least I have nothing to fear of you assassinating the King with your stench.” He smirked. “Are you ready? The King awaits you in the Councillors room. And yes, the rest of the Council is also there.” He said as Zarbon was about to speak. “Alright, follow me, you don't wanna be late. And don't forget Hoomun,” He mis-pronounced the foreign word. “and you too Zarbon, in that room, and in front of other Saiyans you called me War Counsellor Bardock. It's respectful of my class and rank. And absolutely at all times show proper respect to the King and the other Counsellors, they're the ones that could make or break your whole organisation. Got it?” He spoke as though he was commanding his soldiers. “Yeah yeah we get it, anyone would think you were talking to children dammit.” Zarbon replied, a bite in his tone but when Bardock turned around to look at him he saw he was chuckling, but what surprised him more was that the girl Human in his arms was giggling happily while pointing at Bardock.
~*~
“As I have said already Freeza is strong, we all know that and we have to find a way to defeat him before he gets too powerful. It is a good partnership, we have something to offer each other.” Zarbon said as he looked around the large glazed stone table at the myriad of Counsellors, before his eyes rested on the King.
“What can you offer us?” Asked a burly man sat opposite Zarbon. “Well, put it this way. We build up a resistance against Freeza on your behalf. We create new technology to aid you in defeating his armies. Not counting how that technology could help you in other ways, medicines etc. We find a way to stop Freeza killing your Prince, that's a biggy that one. Hmm.. what else... Oh yeah, we defeat the sick son of a bitch and the Universe is safe once again. Is that enough for our part of the deal?” Zarbon said, exasperated. They'd only been in here 10 minutes, and he already wasn't seeing eye to eye with some of them.
Some of the Counsellors chuckled at the attitude of the Zichen change-ling, some merely stayed silent. The King meanwhile held a smirk on his face, his head supported by his hand. He chose this moment to speak. “A big task for only two men and a girl cub. Who's the brains, who's the brawn, and who is gonna stop Freeza getting his claws into my Son? As you can imagine, we're finding it difficult to believe you can achieve all that you claim.” The King tapped the stone table lightly, before he took to stroking the goatee that he was growing.
Zarbon was about to counter and explain that they had one of the leading Tech Scientists of Earth in the room with them, who was willing to aid them in their quest to destroy Freeza. Before he could get a word out that very same person, Doctor Briefs spoke for the first time since entering the room. “This could be one reason perhaps?” He stood, pulled a small white tubular object out of his pocket, and held it up to the room. The room looked on in interest and confusion, all apart from Zarbon who had seen one of these before, but just once. Briefs pressed a small button on the end of the little tube, and threw it into the centre of the table. There was a loud pop! And smoke billowed from the strange little object, obstructing anyone's view of it.
This action surprised the Saiyans gathered there, some shouting ensued until the smoke cleared, and everyone could see that the little white tube had disappeared. In it's place spanning the length of the table was a sleek, black gun resting on tripod legs. “This, is what I have been working on for some time. This gun is a prototype, the first of many models that I will construct. In it's core is a reactor, when used properly this gun can fire into space. That would be pretty useless in itself, but what's important is what it fires. This gun will charge a pulse powerful enough, that when aimed and fired correctly to hit it's target, it will shut down all power. An EMP gun for short, this can render your opponent unable to defend by machine standards. It will knock out shields, force fields, whatever you wanna call 'em. They'll be sitting ducks, with no power, no guns, no way of escape.” Briefs finished, and looked around at the faces gathered there before looking directly at the King.
The King himself, leaned back in his tall chair and said nothing as Briefs leaned over the table and pressed a small button on the underside of the gun. There was another billow of smoke smaller than before, it cleared quickly and the room could see that the gun was no longer there, instead the small white tube was in it's place. “Why should we trust you? None of us have ever heard of your species before.” The King asked Briefs as he took a sip from his silver goblet in front of him.
This time Zarbon managed to speak before the Doctor. “With all due respect, I know this man. He has sacrificed a lot to come to this meeting... and I don't think that I could put trust in anyone better.” He looked at the King trying to decipher his expression. “Sir, if you don't trust him, then trust me. I have done you well in the past. We have a common enemy, it makes sense to work together to bring him down doesn't it?” Zarbon was talking slightly different than normal, or maybe it was just because he was showing the King respect.
There was silence in the room, apart from Bulma's small gurgles as she managed to escape from the confines of Zarbon's lap and crawled around the table. It was several minutes before the King spoke again, and when he did it captured Bulma's attention and she tried to make her way to him. “I think we agree that your technology is something unknown to us, and could benefit us in some way.” He paused a moment as Bulma had managed to crawl to him, and was trying to pull off his medallion, which drew some laughter from the room. “Zarbon, Briefs. The Council will discuss your offer in private, in the meantime you may do as you wish, go to the med wing or go eat - you look malnourished.” He concluded as Bulma fell into his lap and faced the room. Seeing something shiny grab her attention she tried to lean forward and get to the King's goblet.
Zarbon stood to leave the room, with Briefs following a second later. “Zarbon. Take this with you.” The King commanded, gesturing to the blue haired child using his body as a play area. Bulma drew laughter from the room as she clung to the King tightly when Zarbon tried to pick her up. The King thought a change of tactic was in need, so he pulled a menacing face and growled deeply at her. Instead of scaring her to let go as he had intended, she giggled loudly, delighted that someone wanted to play! The King sighed at her and motioned Zarbon to cease his efforts to get her to release her grip on him, “You may as well leave her. She obviously wants to hear what we have to say.”
Zarbon hesitated for a minute, but seeing that Briefs displayed no reaction to her being left with strangers, he walked to meet Briefs at the door and left the room. The was slammed shut and the noise reverberated through the room. Bulma was happily head butting the King in the chest and laughing at her own game, with the entire room watching her. “A Zichen and the King of the Saiyans defeated by one small girl cub. I never thought I'd see the day.” The King spoke to her, the array of Counsellors laughed heartily at his analogy.
One of the Saiyans nearer to the King looked at the girl and then the King confusedly. “Sir, I don't understand. Why didn't you or the Zichen just use your strength to pull her off? She's only a child, she can't be that strong.”
“Exactly because of that, she's not strong, she's fragile. Would you hurt a defenceless child Nappa?” The King enquired while holding the girl at arms length, sizing her up. “Look how Saiyan she looks. She's only missing the tail, and the Ki of course.” There was a noise of agreement around the room, including Nappa. The King placed the child on the table top, where she happily began crawling around. “Now, to the matter at hand. What are your general thoughts of this proposal?” The King said while leaning back in his chair again, taking a sip from his goblet.
There was a myriad of voices, each giving their own opinion.
“How do we know they won't turn against us?”
“That weapon could be very valuable against Freeza!”
“I'm not sure about them...”
“Me either.”
“I think we should give them a chance.”
It was Bardock who called silence, “Look, I have been communicating with Zarbon for a long time. I have no reason not to trust them. That Briefs guy... you can bet your tail he'll do anything it takes to down Freeza.” He said, rubbing his temple.
“How can you be sure Bardock?” First Battle Commander Toma asked him, interested.
Bardock seemed to contemplate something for a moment. As though he was torn between speaking and staying silent. He finally gave his answer while his gaze was fixed on Bulma, who was sat upright in the middle of the table, eyes groggily trying to stay awake. “When Zarbon said that Briefs had sacrificed a lot to come to this Planet, he wasn't lying. Briefs was a highly successful businessman on his home world, he had more wealth and respect than Royalty, which he has left behind to travel here. Four of them set out from Earth, Zarbon, Briefs and his mate, and this child. Approximately two standard weeks ago they came across a re-con vessel under command of Freeza. Zarbon has never told me the details, all I know is that Briefs mate was killed. That is why we can trust them, you know vengeance when you see it. And I reckon that science guy is ready to unleash all sorts of vengeful sin on Freeza and his soldiers.”
The room remained quite silent, with some murmurs of understanding now that they knew more about Briefs and Zarbon. The stillness was interrupted by almost simultaneous bleeping coming from every scouter in the room. An Elite Saiyan guard burst through the doors of the chamber, making all within stand alert. Bulma lay in the middle of the table, groggy. “HIGHNESS! He's here! Freeza is here!”
Nappa shouted to no one in particular. “How can he have gotten here so fast for fucks sake! We estimated another three weeks!”
The King hissed under his breath. “Freeza...”
