Falling In Love The First Time

Chapter 14 - Disappointment

Everyone had assembled to see Trunks return to the future. Bulma was holding baby Trunks when she noticed Vegeta's presence. He leaned casually against a tree, strategically away from the crowd. He was dressed in more casual clothing, which implied that he had at some point returned to Capsule Corp for a change of cloths without her notice.

She watched closely as Trunks halted to look at his past father. Vegeta placed two fingers together in what must have been some symbolic manner. Trunks seemed to understand as he returned the gesture. 'Must be a Saiya-jin thing,' she though as she then watched her son continue to his capsule and hop inside. Soon the time machine was in the air, and in the blink of an eye her future son was gone.

It was not long before everyone departed. Bulma said her goodbyes and then turned to go and speak with Vegeta, but he was gone before she had the chance. "Mom will you watch Trunks for a little bit?" She handed her baby to the blonde woman before heading into the house without answering any of her mother's questions.

"Vegeta?" Bulma called as she began searching the house for him. After quickly concluding he was not on the first floor she moved to the second. She finally found him in the spare bedroom where all of his things had been moved after Trunks was born. In all honesty she had given Trunks Vegeta's room out of spite, but now she began to regret it as she walked in to see the proud Saiya-jin prince throwing some items into a capsule trunk. "What are you doing?" she blurted out surprised.

Vegeta made no physical movement to recognize her as he replied. "I would imagine that even a creature of your pathetic intellect could conclude that I am taking a few items on my voyage into space. Though I would rather rid myself of everything earthlike I do need a few choice possessions around here. Do you have a problem with that?" he asked the question in a tone that projected his disinterest in her response.

Bulma immediately felt a knot tie in her stomach as she approached him. She did not want things to be like this between them. "Don't go," she whispered as she loosely grabbed his arm, stopping him from packing any further. "I was wrong. I don't want you to leave."

Vegeta raised an eyebrow as he turned slowly to look into her deep blue pools. He had not admired them so thoroughly in, at least for him, years. "Why not?" He asked in his typically indifferent tone. She would not get any satisfaction from his turmoil over the situation.

"Because," Bulma gulped, trying to find the right words, "we have a son together and… and I want us to raise him together."

"Is that all?" Vegeta did not intend to sound as cold as he did, but held his stance nonetheless.

Bulma's head dropped slightly in defeat, hiding the swelling of her eyes. "No," she whispered weakly, "but I'm not foolish enough to ask for anything more."

"You are willing to sacrifice your own happiness for the boy's?" Vegeta asked somewhat confused. "After all, I recall making it very clear what I wanted in return, and you didn't--"

"I know," Bulma stopped him. She was not ready to hear his narcissistic manner; it would make it harder for her to say what she had to. "I remember your terms," she said as calmly as possible. "What I am suggesting are my terms."

"Yours?" Vegeta held a chuckled. "I do not see wh--"

"Hear me out before you start with your objections," she interrupted him with restrained anger. "I know you claim to want nothing but an heir to train and a little sex on the side, but you are not getting either. What I am offering is a son to teach and a wife to share a bed with. That is the only form in which I will allow you to remain under this roof." As soon as she finished her thought, Bulma mentally braced herself for whatever soul-shattering backlash her counterpart would unleash upon her. Shockingly enough, there was no cruel response or offensive insult, only an unexpected admission.

"I have lived my entire life as a disappointment, woman," he spoke in a numb tone as he slowly took a seat upon the bed, "whether that be to my father, my people, those I was forced to work for, or myself. I will not stay and live as a disappointment to a mate and a brat."

"A disappointment?" Bulma almost stuttered the words as the awe they struck in her were almost too much to bear. "You think you're a disappointment?" She walked over to the bed and sat down next to him, gently placing her palms on either side of his face. "Vegeta, you are not a disappointment; you are anything but. I mean look at everything you have accomplished! Everything you have lived through! A lesser man would have long ago given up, but you kept your determination and did everything you set your mind to, even becoming a Super Saiya-jin!"

"After a third class weakling achieved it!" Vegeta pushed her hands away. "So what! I claimed my birthright, but to what pinnacle? I am still weaker than a third class reject and his half-breed son of eleven years! I failed to defeat the bastard that murdered my people, including my own father, the only person that ever believed in me! I could not even fucking avenge him! Let alone myself for all of the atrocities Freeza and his lackeys inflicted on me! You think becoming a Super Saiya-jin means a damn thing when I cannot even kill the man who avenged my own people, an honor meant for me! Do you honestly think I can live on this planet, the planet where the ultimate obliteration of my pride began?! Do you honestly think I would suffer the humiliation all for you, a mere Earth woman? Have you even thought about this, Bulma? I am a Saiya-jin; you are human! Our cultures and customs do not mix! You want an affectionate mate like that weakling you used to be with. You want this ridiculous 'marriage' you humans join in. You want to be 'loved' and cared for. I cannot do any of that. I won't! I am a warrior, not a father or a… husband." He forced the words out sickened. "Go find an earth male to throw your life away with, because I sure as hell am not going to waste mine with the likes of you, no matter how perfect your delusional mind thinks you-"

Bulma stopped Vegeta's tirade by slamming her palm across his face. The act was all she could do to stop the tears she felt forming from the harshness of his words. "Enough!" she growled through her teeth as she ignored the stunned look upon her counterparts face. "I will not put up with your bullshit anymore!" she screamed as her fists flailed, striking any part of his body they could make contact with.

Vegeta, shaking himself out of the shock that she would dare try to attack him, halted her attempt by grabbing her wrists and locking them together. "This is useless woman; you will only hurt yourself!" he warned. The last thing he needed was one of the few people he gave a damn about, admitted or not, wanting to kill him.

"I'll hurt myself?" Bulma stopped her thrashing, as she looked her former mate dead in the eyes. "You know, you're probably right; I will hurt myself." She ripped her arms away from his and stepped away from the bed as though it was on fire. Vegeta could only watch as the venom began spewing from her mouth. "Because apparently I am the only one who can get hurt! I mean, you're not only stronger than me physically, but I guess you are mentally too! Damn it Vegeta, I have tried everything with you! I tried to be accommodating, I have tried to give you your space, I tried to be understanding, I tried to go toe to toe with you; hell, I even tried to give you everything you want, but nothing I say or do is ever enough! You don't want me to be nice, you find it humorous when I try to hold my ground with you, and you insult me when I show emotion before you. So tell me, 'Almighty Saiya-jin Prince' what the fuck is it going to take to get you to step outside of your selfish little bubble and pay me and your son some attention!? What the hell do you want!?" The tone of her voice had risen to a scream by the time she had finished; she ended taking deep breaths, waiting for some kind of useful revelation to come from him.

Vegeta remained silent as he watched one of the strongest women he had ever met break down before him. Yes, she had meager physical strength, but her emotional strength rivaled his, no matter what she thought. No one had ever dared stand up to him as she just did, and yet even with all the courage she had shown before him, he had managed to break her. Such a strong woman, nothing but a distraught mess before him, her emotions controlling her every thought and her sense of reason lost. All she could feel was her hurt and pain. She dared to attack him physically one minute and in the next breath beg his explanation. And why? All because the poor creature took pity on him, allowing him to share a bed with her in his time of need. She cared enough to give him a chance at happiness, a chance at a family, a real life. But what could he say to rectify the disastrous fate he had bestowed upon this undeserving female?

The truth seemed to be the easy way out. To look into her eyes and tell her all he wanted was her. Yes her body, but even more so her affection, her consideration, her boldness, her spunk; everything that made her who she was. Dende help him, he wanted all of her, but how could he tell her that? To start a life with this woman would inevitably result in the destruction of both her and their child. No, for as selfish and inconsiderate as Vegeta could be, for once in his life he knew what he had to do. He had to do what was best for someone else; he had to let her go. For as easy as it would be to wreck the woman's life, in exchange for his own happiness, Vegeta could not do it. The woman had selflessly given of herself to him since day one. How, when he finally had the power to do what was right for her, could he ignore his chance?

As ironic as the situation seemed to the Saiya-jin prince, he let his pride take control of his vocal cords, only this time for the benefit of another. Rising slowly from the bed, Vegeta walked over to the furious woman. He crossed his arms over his chest and placed a flawlessly arrogant smirk upon his face. Hurting people was what he knew best; it would not be a difficult task to find the words to rectify the mistake he made the night he took her to his bed. "I want you and your pathetically weak emotions to be vanquished from my presence. I told you the first time you slept with me that all I wanted was your body. My 'feelings' on the matter are still the same. Yes, the boy is my heir; I am willing to suffer through a few more years on this worthless planet to train him, but… I will not take you in any other form besides the physical sense. Unless…"

Vegeta paused briefly as took a step closer to the now shocked woman before him. He lowered his arm to her stomach where he extended his index finger and slowly drew its tip up to one of her supple breasts, where he allowed his finger to draw lazy circles around her nipple. The entire image he was projecting was nothing more than lust, the only image he wanted her to see in the clearly blinding rage building inside of her. "Unless," he repeated, knowing full well that the next words would be the cruel end to whatever possible future he might have had with this woman, "you wouldn't mind whoring yourself off to me as you did before. After all, it's not everyday you get a chance to be fucked by someone so high above your station in life. If I were you, I would jump at the chance to pleasure me again."

As soon as he finished with his harsh words, Bulma froze in shock. What had she done to deserve this? Was it some punishment for having casual sex? Or was it due to some greater sin that she was supposed to be humiliated and degraded by the father of her son, a man who… Who she had… Who she… "Fine," she whispered so low almost Vegeta did not hear her. "You win."

The words astounded the Saiya-jin prince. As he watched in utter bewilderment, Bulma began removing her shoes, socks, and shirt. She was in the process of removing her pants when he demanded an explanation. "Woman, what the hell are you doing!?!?"

"What do you mean?" She asked, confused as she dropped her pants on the floor before removing the band holding her hair back. "This is what you want? My body? That's what I am giving you." The words spilled from her lips in an almost challenging tone. As she spoke, she finished discarding her remaining garments and then stood proudly, naked before her once mate. "So take it," she held her tears as she spoke; he would not have the privilege of seeing her suffering. "What are you waiting for?" she demanded. He made no move to touch her, only maintaining eye contact, not once taking in all of her body. "This is what you want!" she reiterated. "Here," she hissed, grabbing his hands, placing one on a bare beast, the other against the soft turquoise curls above her essence. "This is all you want from me; the parts of me that bring you pleasure… So take them."

"Enough woman," Vegeta broke his silence as he pulled his hands away from her body. "I don't want you like this," his tone was surprisingly hurt, as he had never anticipated such a reaction.

"You don't want me like this?" Bulma repeated mockingly. "You just said you want me to 'whore' myself off to you again! So, I'm offering you my body, I'm offering you a mindless, guiltless fuck! That's what you want, so take it Vegeta. Take what physical gratification you can from me because Dende knows you have taken everything else! I have given you a roof to live under, clothes on your back, food to nourish you, a gravity room to help you become strong, I… I even gave you a son. So why not complete my humiliation Vegeta? Destroy right know what little self-respect I have left, because you sure as hell destroyed every other part of me. My pride, my soul, my heart! Can you see how you have beaten me, Vegeta!? You must be so proud! Oh, but, I won't give you the satisfaction of crawling into a little hole and dying over your rejection! You want emotionless sex? You want my body and nothing more? Then take it, because this is your last chance. After today we are finished! After today Vegeta, I'm finished with you."

Bulma paused long enough to release a harsh chuckled before continuing. "You are so wrapped up in yourself that you can't even see the irony in this situation, can you? You think you are doing me a favor by 'letting' me pleasure you. You think you are lowering yourself to be with me!? You, Vegeta, are the lesser of the two of us. You have no title, no lineage, no power, no means to support yourself; you have absolutely nothing to offer a woman but your body. That's all you have, that's all you ever had to offer me! You have no soul, no heart, and no conscience! All you have is hate running through your veins. You, 'oh mighty Saiya-jin prince,' are a waste. You don't deserve my aid, my kindness, or my concern. Hell, you barely deserve my pity, because it's completely wasted on an SOB like you. Here I am, willing to give you everything a person could ever want in life… for absolutely no restitution, only your care! Not even love or affection!!!! All I want in return is for you to give a damn! But you can't even do that!"

Bulma stopped again as she roughly rubbed her tears away before finishing her say. "As I said before Vegeta; you have won. I will give up all my hopes-more accurately my delusions that you would give your son and I a chance at a real life. Since that's clearly not what you want, you can have your victory. Take what you want out of me and then go live your life however the hell you want to, because I'll be damned if I settle for anything less than a man who will be as devoted to me as his heart can offer." She ended coldly, her arms crossed over her exposed stomach and her face in a twisted expression of success and defeat. She held her head high as she observed his emotionless stance. She could only imagine how his mind was reacting to her words, but if she wished for a true gauge of his feelings on the matter, his physical reaction denied her an answer.

Vegeta displayed his typically detached exterior as her harsh words shot thought his mind. Each syllable of every pitiless insult had sifted through his thoughts all too slowly. It was almost as though every articulation of offense reverberated mercilessly through his mind before the next cruelty entered. After what seemed like an eternity of degradation, an unfamiliar numbness took control of Vegeta. He unconsciously took a step closer to Bulma, closing the gap between their bodies. Then, as unconsciously as the first act was, Vegeta placed his hands on Bulma's hips, slowly slipping them up her nude body until he reached her neck, where he calmly rested his palms.

Bulma suppressed any physical reaction to his touch as she could only imagine his goal, his hands perfectly placed to strangle her; all she could do was maintain what little pride she had left and stare straight into his cold, almost dead eyes, showing no fear of his actions. She wouldn't give him the privilege of knowing how much his attitude and actions wrecked havoc her heart.

Vegeta watched with a flicker of pride as his once mate looked courageously into his eyes. She stood naked before him, with no physical strength to defend her; he could do anything to her and she'd be helpless to stop him. And yet, here she was, as implacable as ever. If Vegeta hadn't been so damned broken by her words, he might have taken pride in her strength. However, her actions were not meant to impress him with her strength, they were only to further her rebellion from him. To prove her intentions to disregard him, to cut him out of her life, after, of course she offered her body one more time to him. Vegeta had been floored and inspired by her boldness, but her decision made it all too clear what Vegeta was truly losing.

Pulling whatever strength Vegeta had left, he had to finish what he started. He wanted to make certain this end left no question. "You are a fool," he whispered as he leaned his head forward to tickle her throat with his hot breath.

"Oh?" she spoke, unfazed. "And why is that?"

"Because," he kept his voice low and menacing as he removed a hand from her throat and slipped it around her back, pulling her roughly against his chest. "If you think this little tantrum of yours will turn my heart soft, and I'll start confessing my undying love… Then you have failed to learn anything about me these last few years." A sadistic chuckle left his lips before roughly pulling Bulma's against his in a bruising kiss. Then, after no more than a few minutes of ravaging her mouth, he pulled away just as quickly. "I'm done with you." The words left his lips almost as harshly as he pushed her body away from his. "I'll stay and train the boy, and you can go try and find that 'man who will be as devoted to you as his pathetic heart can offer," he chuckled frigidly. "Not that such a man could exist; you, woman, are nothing but a whiny self-righteous bitch. You are no more 'lovable' than I am. " He finished his blunt assessment without mercy.

Not taking time to look back, for fear of what kind of emotional damage such a sight would cause him, Vegeta left the room, slamming the door and heading straight for the nearest window. He had done enough damage to the woman's soul, whether she showed it or not, to last a lifetime. The least he could do was evade her presences for a few weeks, his only hope that her rage would conquer her misery and she would move on quickly, writing him off as a colossal mistake. He found that the only fair solution to the disaster he had made of the woman's life.

So it was decided; Vegeta would grant her space until she could calm enough to accept his continuance on the planet. He was not certain what would happen afterwards. He knew things would be wrecked between them for a while, but he had hope of a calm future; one in which she stopped hating him. Hating him for taking selflessly from her and her family, for using her body without emotion, for impregnating her without accepting her as his proper mate, for neglecting their son, and most devastatingly for his inadequacies; for not being and never being what she needs, wants or desires, for being exactly what his life had been spent as…a disappointment.
