~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``` Chapter --Choose
I watch the hope I had disintegrate before my eyes
I take a minute and reflect on all your fucking lies
Behind the door, you have two choices, but you don't get to choose
You can survive or you can die - either way you lose
Stone Sour- Choose
Vegeta watched his son speak to his mother in the camera. Tears were pouring down both their faces as Trunks relieved a terrible moment in his life. Bulma whispered her reassuring words, comforting him as only a mother can.
His own mother was the same type of warm-blooded creature Bulma was. Maybe that was what he saw in her. She reminded him of his mother. That was the first time he ever thought that. It kind of scared him.
Vegeta had momentarily forgotten about the cure, smelling a battle approaching. But now that he was sitting in his ship, he had cursed himself for ever walking out without ordering Gideon to give him the cure. Now he would have to wait for they were now close to the black hole. Six hours were left until the scientist would die. Trunks safely had another twenty hours left. But that didn’t make him feel any better.
Trunks exited with a bright smile on his face which surprised Vegeta as he walked past him, “She wants to talk to you.” It was a grin that Vegeta narrowed his eyes upon. Apparently him getting in trouble was a pain-reliever for his son.
She screamed her mighty head off when she saw him come on screen. “How could you take him to that damn planet! What they hell are you doing to my son, Vegeta! I thought you were going to protect him, not give him over to fucking maniacs.” A switch shut off, her eyes were darting around her, and apparently she was in her office which meant many on-lookers. Her cheeks blushed with embarrassment but her blue eyes were still as cold as ice when they finally set upon him again. With a much quieter tone she spoke, “I don’t think I like this journey anymore. I think it would be best if you two come home right now.”
“Woman. He is fine.”
“He is traumatized, Vegeta!” She whispered in a violent yell, a contradiction he knew but she managed to pull it off. “And from just listening, I’m traumatized. He is too young for space. Bring him back right now.” Vegeta rolled his eyes, willing himself to shut the off button but he knew the trouble he would be in if he did. Vegeta however caught something that maybe she was trying to hide. He scrutinized her appearance making her very, very nervous as she started to fidget. “What happened to your arm?”
“What is happening?”
“What do you mean? Nothing.”
“Something is.”
“Nothing is.”
“You are lying.”
“You are wrong.”
“Woman.”
“Man.”
His hand smashed on the complete board, damaging only a few unimportant buttons. But it scared her enough to talk. “Mom’s sick.” Her eyes instantly sprung with tears.
“Sick of what?”
“I don’t know. Since dad died, she’s been more distant then ever before. And she’s been forgetting things.”
“She’s old, woman. I thought that is what happened to old humans.”
“She’s only sixty-eight. She shouldn’t be forgetting anything yet. Anyway, we will talk about this when you come home in a few hours.”
“Woman. I will not be coming home just yet. After this last mission, then I will come back, leave Trunks and go back into space.”
“Are you cheating on me?”
Vegeta faltered only mentally as he stared at his mate. She narrowed her big blue eyes, folding her arms as if trying to intimidate him. He didn’t even want to know how that thought had been conjured during this conversation. “I will make contact when we return.”
“Vegeta, wait!” He stalled his finger from the off button. “Come back, soon, okay?” He smirked; making her smile then clicked the off button.
Trunks stayed glued to his side as they went to the navigation wing. Pure Horns and Amorites seemed to get along beside the species difference. Pure Kitaya landed on the deck with a smaller Pure Horn beside her. “This is Dynasy. He is the third born. He will be your guardian, young one.”
Trunks took a quick look at Dynasy. He was a foot smaller then the First and he did not wear a symbol on his chest but other then that there was nothing more to make him stand out. He wondered momentarily how they keep themselves organized. He smiled softly but shook his head, “Thank you, but I don’t need any protection.”
Vegeta cut in, “He will stay with you. I will be too busy to look after you.”
“Dad, I don’t need--”
“Quiet, boy.” Vegeta growled caring nothing for the rolling blue eyes he received. He knew Trunks could take care of himself. This was the same boy that fought against Buu and every other dark creature that’s been in their life. But outer space was a lot different. Not to mention, Vegeta didn’t know when the illness that was eating greedily at Trunks’ insides would present itself.
Vegeta took over the helm, hoping he remembered how to fly. It was different on all of Frieza’s ships and Bulma’s. The ship knew how to fly itself. But this large machine was completely manual. A whole line of Amorites sat next to him, taking care of other important aspects of flying. What they were actually for, Vegeta couldn’t figure out.
It only took a few minutes for the nausea to set in letting Vegeta know he was doing it correctly. And they weren’t dead so he felt smug about proving the truth about black holes. Though going through a black hole was a lot different then coming back out of one. But he’ll deal with that obstacle when it approaches.
The planet quickly came into view. A light red floor about the size of Earth’s moon appeared, except this landscape held no craters; No clouds, no planet life, just a rock solid ground. The landing was tough since the atmosphere was so thick and after reading an odometer Vegeta assured his son that the planet was breathable.
They quickly exited. Vegeta beside Trunks with the two Pure horns standing beside them. Lord Gideon walked in front of them, his wings spread out long and wide taking the span of twelve feet. Trunks eyes were darting around, he looked back to find soldiers exited out in a hurry to form ranks of twenty. He was amazed to realized just how many there were. “Dad. Are we going to have a war or something?”
Vegeta took a glance back. He responded in Japanese, using Gideon’s lack of knowledge of their language to his advantage. “I have a feeling Gideon wants those crystals for himself.”
Pure Kitaya leaned her snout down. “I will watch him. I plan to destroy the crystals. We will see where his allegiance lies.”
“What’s that?” Trunks quickly pointed out, looking over Gideon’s large wings.
On the horizon stood a wall of Demons. Their bodies flickered in the wind protecting the city and castle that lay behind them. Gideon shouted back, “Form Ranks!”
“We will not start war.” Pure Kitaya cut in.
“If you look ahead you will see we are at war.”
“We speak to the queen, no one starts anything.” Vegeta shouted back.
“Haven’t you noticed, Prince? You are not in command of this army.”
“You fight and the rest of your men they have will die.”
He barred his black fangs, drawing his wings down behind him. “Fine. But one foul move and my soldiers will attack. Whoever stands in their way.” Gideon got behind them mumbling to himself bitter curses.
Vegeta straightened and heightened his ki which Trunks responded and did the same. Having Gideon behind him made Vegeta even tenser. Pure Kitaya spoke in the Demon language and a messenger flew back to the castle.
Thousands of Demons stood between them and the castle. No one moved except each time the wind blew their bodies disappeared until it stopped. Trunks was getting a bit anxious. “Dad, what are we doing?”
“We are waiting for the Queen.”
The crowds of their enemies slowly parted. And there stood Queen Kana.
Like the rest of her people, Queen Kana held no color. A dull grey was all they were. Even the clothes they wore straight down to the boots. She kept coming closer, her people staying put behind her. Vegeta made a move and all five of them followed until they met her in the middle of the battlefield. Trunks narrowed his eyes in confusion as he turned to his father.
“Queen Kana.”
“Prince Vegeta.” She smiled, her body fluttering transparent, “You are alive. What a surprise. I welcome you all. Do you have my crystals?”
“Where are our people?” Pure Kitaya asked.
“They are being kept in containment cells. I want my crystals.”
Vegeta took the first step, however upon doing so Queen Kana took an unexpected transformation. Blood red eyes stared upon him now and a smile played softly on her light red lips. Her long black hair flowed down her back contrasting with the white dress that shined silk. He heard Trunks gasp behind him, witnessing a transformation for the first time. “Your games hold no sway over me.”
“So we will see.” Queen Kana took a step forward, getting closer to Vegeta who refused to move. She took another step. “You look well, my son. Time has treated you nicely.” Her hand reached down to touch his cheek but he moved away from her. “After all these years, is this how you treat your mother?”
Another, sharper gasp exhaled from Trunks. That boy just couldn’t shut up. Vegeta growled violently but before he could respond Gideon came barging forward, “Enough! Give me my soldiers. Now, Queen Kana.”
The red eyes went to him and she tilted her head. Soon another transformation over took her form down to the floor on four paws. Big black eyes now gazed up. Mischa was among them. Vegeta’s eyes went to Trunks who stared with wide, tearful eyes, confused and happy. Vegeta went to the boy, grapping his arm when Trunks tried to go to her. “She is not real. You must not let yourself believe.” The boy looked at him as if his dream had just been crushed into a nightmare.
Queen Kana thankfully did not stay in that body long for she transformed back into her old colorless form. But it had done what she wanted it to do. Gideon shrunk back, wrapping his wings tight around him as he stared off into the distance. “None of you have my crystals.” She bit violently swinging around and going back to the protection of her people
They knit their brows as she flowed away. “Something is not right.” Pure Kitaya said. “I need to reach the castle. You must distract her. If you can. Defeat her.”
“Kill a demon!” Lord Gideon outraged. “What is there to kill, they are air itself. It was a mistake coming here.”
“You must find a way. Our races depend on it.” Pure Kitaya quickly ran toward the ship, trying to get out of sight.
Queen Kana yelled across the field. “You show up with nothing and you expect to leave. You are not as important as you may think you are. I will find others to get my crystals.”
Trunks nudged his father, “Dad, can we defeat them?”
Vegeta just stared unsure of what they were going to do. He couldn’t figure out what had changed with her. She had been so different. She wanted no part in the universe. None of it made sense. All facts made him believe it was an imposter. But what other creature could transform into creatures of the mind? She had to be Demon. Right?
No, that couldn’t be right. Something was definitely different.
His mind was forced to drop the debate as he looked ahead. Ghosts were coming for them. Back to the question at hand, could they defeat them? Vegeta wasn’t too sure. He came here for what reason? To talk. He didn’t want to fight. He was tired of fighting. But it seemed that no matter he did to avoid, it was becoming necessary. He either fought and won, or refused and get caught in situation that he didn’t know how to get out of.
Either way, he was going to lose one way or another.
