Black Flowers; chapter 1, 'Forced Beginnings'
Vegeta let Bulma gently down on the ground, after many urges to drop the irritating woman mid flight. During the relatively short flight over the desert, he had heard comments such as her skin was drying out, and he wasn't carrying her steady enough, or the flight was too long. Their usual bickering had followed, including many threats to drop her into the oblivion of dry sand below. But, he still held onto her. As he had all these years, when his saiya-jin common sense had told him otherwise. He never fully understood why, in all these years of being married to her. Why was she still able to keep him so captivated, so intrigued? Kept him so he didn't have any desire to let her go, but to hold her…
He brushed off these thoughts as he landed, and Kakkorrot and his offspring landed a small distance from him. His own children touched down as well, Trunks and his sister. Bra was gently let down by her older brother, and she looked around her with a disdain. Her floor length sporty dress began to collect dust at the bottom. The dress was like a wet suit material, with a hood and toggle ties. She had swept her hair into a messy knot, and her face was a natural made up.
Accompanying Gohan and his daughter was Videl. She stood beside her husband, holding his hand like a smitten teenager. He smiled at her affectionately. Goku was gazing around him like Bra, carrying a contemplative expression. Vegeta snorted at what was so fascinating and frowned when he saw nothing of interest. Vegeta walked forward on the hot sand, intending to fight with Kakkorrot or his elder son. A strong wind began to pick up, and the gang looked around in bewilderment at the sudden break of the desert stillness. Strange lights appeared in the distant sky, and colours flooded over the sands in brief flashes. As they strained to see in the sudden sandstorm, six figures appeared, their silhouetted forms blinking rapidly before becoming solid. The floating sand fell like dust as the wind died down as quickly as it had started. The silhouetted figures became coloured as the sunlight hit them.
"Who the hell?" Yelled Vegeta. In front of them stood six strange youths. There were three girls, one with short teal coloured hair, one with long dark hair, and a third was a long wavy haired brunette. Among the males, there was a lavender haired one, a short dark haired one, and another with still short dark hair, but it was twisted back into several twists. They stepped forward confidently.
Pan stared at them for a moment. "You all look really familiar…" She said.
One of the boys with lavender hair smirked. "Not suprising." He mused. Neither was he surprised when Vegeta attacked him. He held out a hand, and Vegeta stopped against his control, and floated into the air. He thrashed and struggled, but the boy's attack held firm.
"Why don't we just tell them, instead of messing around?" Said one of the girls with short, pixie cut hair. She nodded towards Vegeta. "Let him down."
The boy did, and Vegeta fell to the ground. "So, what are you going to tell us?" Vegeta snarled. He was fast growing impatient with the six strangers. Especially by their strange ki signatures.
The girl looked around the other youths as if for confirmation. "I'm sorry if this sounds crazy-" She paused, not helped by the number of eyes looking at her intently. "We're your kids from the future." She said carefully. The youths waited expectantly for the response.
A wave of surprise passed around the gang before it crashed and the full effect of the girls' words hit them.
"Really?" Said Goten with awe. He looked at the youths. "Any of my sprogs?" he asked jokingly. Two of the youths nervously waved, one of them was the long- brunette haired girl, and the other was the boy with dark twisted hairstyle.
"Who's the Mum then?" Asked Trunks, curious as the others on this matter. "Anyone we know?"
The girl pointed to Bra. The gang stared at Bra with surprise. "My sister???" Said Trunks with shock. His eyes scanned the features of his baby sister. A mother… She nervously brushed her hair behind her ear. She seemed so young, even now at her age. He had always been here, watching her grow from an irritating child, to a young woman. But she was always his little sister. He looked between her and his mother. She was Bulma all over again. Blessed with that enchanting youth that made age seem impossible to the laws of nature. Is this how everyone felt when they were told of Bulma's child with Vegeta? His eyes scanned over the form of his best friend. Goten's face clearly showed shock. And why not? He had just been told he was the future father of one of best friends' child.
Vegeta growled with irritation. Bulma put her hand over her mouth, her mind alive with the idea.
Gohan's eyes scanned the youths. "What about the rest of you?" He asked cautiously, eager to know the origins of the others.
The youths looked at each other. "I'm your son." Said the dark haired boy to Gohan. "…But not Videl's."
Gohan's eyes widened. This information hit him hard. Not Videls? Had he strayed? He sub-consciously began his mental guilt. No, he couldn't possibly… He couldn't bear to think he was capable, he had always kept his standards of himself, from work to home. His love for Videl was simple and pure, but also deeper. He brought himself to ask the words he feared the answer to. "…Who?"
"Bra." The boy said with a frightening simplicity.
"Bra???" Yelled Gohan. He looked at the teenager. "Bra????"
"Hey, I thought I was with Bra?" Asked Goten with an expression of puzzlement that made him look so much more like his father. He looked suspiciously at his older brother. Gohan gazed back, knowing exactly what thoughts were crossing his mind. The hurt that flashed unconsciously in his features.
"Goten! I would never…" Gohan tried to protest. He wouldn't hurt the people he loved in this way!
"BRA would never." Said Vegeta decidingly. "The sons of Kakkorrot? Impossible!" He said this with such certainty, but behind all that, his mind toyed with the possibility.
The girl with short hair looked away and cleared her throat. "…And Kakkorrot." She said, ashamed at the distress she was causing by the news.
Vegeta stumbled backwards, losing his well-known posture. "KAKKORROT?????" He roared. No, this couldn't be! Not him! Deep inside him, the deep loathing he had felt for his rival, the burning hatred was somewhere rekindled. The vicious fights, the jealousy that had eaten away at him, tortured him…until his hardened soul couldn't take more… Not with his princess. This was something that he wouldn't tolerate. Bra symbolized so much in Vegeta's life. The turning point, the realisation that he cared, however little, for this pathetic planet and it's inhabitants. The realisation of love for his son… and for his wife. The point where the darker part of himself was finally laid to rest, and the horrific deeds he had carried out were balanced by that selfless act… He had given his life. Bra was his life. As was his wife and son. They were his family, and that, was the thing that allowed light to enter into his soul. Like the sunlight forcing it's way in a smear of clean glass on an otherwise black coated windshield.
"Bra???? You're such a slut!" Trunks said with shock, saying words he hadn't meant to. "Goku, Gohan AND Goten???"
"It's not true!" Bra whimpered. She was conscious of everyone's eyes on her. "It can't be!" The sun sunk lower into the sky as she stood, and the softened light made sharpened highlights on her teal blue hair. She was unable to digest the conversation that had revealed so much of an unimaginable future. Was that her? Was she, as Trunks had maybe accidentally pointed out… a slut?
"Of course it isn't Pumpkin." Said Vegeta reassuringly, using a pet name for her and suprising the others. His eyes were blazing angrily, a restless part of him awakened revealing the face of a killer, of perhaps a monster. The remaining youths shivered as his eyes passed over them. "What about the rest of them?" He asked huskily, the dark tremors of his voice striking the hearts of the listeners.
The lavender haired, styled dark haired boy and the brown haired girl pointed to Pan. "She's our Mom." One of the boys revealed.
The group turned to stare at Pan, and Bra sighed with relief as the pressure left her, but surprise for her best friend set in.
Gohan swung around back to the youths, and they all jumped nervously. "Who's the father?" He growled, more than anxious to know.
"Trunks is mine." Said the one with lavender hair. "I don't know if you can kinda tell." He tried to laugh light-heartedly.
"I knew it!!!" Gohan roared, his voice laced with accusation. "He's always looking at Pan!"
Trunks was frozen with amazement. "Pan… I would never! Gohan, honestly!" He pleaded. "Please believe me! Pan is one of my best friends." But, deep in the recesses of his mind, self-doubt of his own pleas began to form. They were close, but never… She was his friend, and he could never hurt her. He loved her, but as a companion, maybe like he loved Bra or Goten.
"You're all Trunks' then?" Asked Goten. He was perhaps the least surprised to learn of the child's heritage.
The other boy and girl shook their heads. "My father is Vegeta." Said the dark-haired girl.
"VEGETA??????" Gohan screamed maniacally. "You're lying! He's a cold-blooded killer! Not my little girl! Never!" He continued screaming. Gohan began coughing and spluttering, and Goten thumped him repeatedly on the back helpfully, trying to take in the news for himself. "Vegeta…" Gohan wheezed.
"Don't even bother." Vegeta snarled. "I would never lay a hand on your offspring." He said, with arrogance and disgust. "It's only too obvious they're lying." Especially about my baby girl, he added mentally.
The second boy of Pan's with dark hair waved his arm. "You forgot me." He interrupted.
"But you're Pan's aren't you?" Goten asked. He paused. "Hey…I thought you were one of my kids?" he said with confusion.
The boy smiled weakly. "I am." He said.
Gohan stopped spluttering and listened.
"Are you Goten's or Pan's then?" Trunks said impatiently, agitated by the day's events.
"I'm Goten's and Pan's." The boy said quietly.
"Pan????" Gohan screamed. "PAN????… Pan AND Goten???"
The boy nodded.
"How??? Why???" Stuttered Gohan. "Pan is Goten's niece." He growled threateningly at the youth. "You're lying!" He snapped.
Pan gazed at the boy's troubled face. "Oh Dende…you're not, are you?"
Goku, who had been silent up until now, spoke. "He's not…" He said solemnly as he searched the boys' and his groups' feelings.
"GOTEN!!!!!!" Gohan screamed with a murderous look in his eyes. But behind that, he masked betrayal. His brother, his daughter… As much as Goten couldn't believe Gohan would steal his woman away, Gohan could hardly believe this of his brother.
"Wait a minute! Me AND Pan?" Asked Bra with shock. "Goten, you're a slut too!" She said. As soon as the words left her mouth she regretted them. Like Trunks, it was hard to believe such things of the people you cared about.
"Pan????" Gohan yelled with disbelief. "PAN????… Pan AND Bra???"
Goten swung around to look at the two girls. "…" He looked at his still spluttering brother. "Quick! I think he's hyperventilating!" He gasped with concern.
"How did all of this happen?" Trunks asked with a new seriousness. "In Pan and Bra's defense, It doesn't really sound like them." He glanced at his sister. Bra, I am sorry. You're not a slut, this news must be hitting you just as hard. Your future, your hopes, dreams… Please forgive me, he added silently.
The short-haired girl smiled friendlily at Trunks. "You're right. They didn't choose this."
Trunks face darkened considerably, suddenly fearing the worst. "I hope you don't mean…" He murmured. A heavy atmosphere passed around the males.
"Don't worry, you didn't either." The girl continued. "I'll explain everything. Firstly, my name is Rayne, and my parents are Goku and Bra." Her hair was a greeny-blue like Bra's, and it was cropped short in a pixie style.
She wore a short red dress with an ethnic print. Her boots were knee high and military style. They were a tough material in a beige color, and had chunky buckles up them. Her face was soft and friendly, carrying Goku's carefree traits.
"Nice boots." Bra complimented her.
Rayne smiled. "Thanks." She said. "Standard issue though."
Gohan and Bra's son stepped up. "Hey, I'm Rhiamon." He said. Rhiamon at second glance thoroughly resembled his father. He had the same intelligent look in his eyes, the same goodness. Rhiamon was dressed in a deep blue sleeveless T-shirt and black trousers. His T-shirt definitley looked as though it had seen better days. Around his waist, he wore a technological belt that looked incredibly scientifically advanced.
"I'm Eira." Said the long-haired daughter of Goten and Bra. Eira was a brunette, her hair fell in luscious waves down her back, but half of it was pinned up messily, with loose tendrils curling at the sides of her face. Her hair was also streaked with blonde. She wore beige baggy cargo pants, and a dark olive green top. The top was cut diagonally across her midriff, and a small diagonal slash in the opposite direction cut across the chest.
"Tristian." Introduced Goten and Pan's son. He had dark hair that mirrored Goten and Pan's, and he had twisted thick strands back against his head. His black eyelined eyes were dark and like Pan's. He looked intelligent and alert. He wore a deep purple shirt and underneath a marl grey armour. He wore black baggy skater's jeans with a chain hung from the belt hoops.
The lavender haired boy stepped up. "I'm Cadell." He said. Cadell's resemblance to Trunks was suprising. His hair carried the same strange pigment inherited from his mother. His eyes were the same cornflower blue, and as much as a person's eyes can bear their souls, his did. His persona gave the others the impression he was holding back much from their eyes than what he presented. He had a calm about him, and worldliness. The way he carried himself and stood, portrayed confidence and faith in himself. He was wearing a black fighting gi similar to the traditional style, but his boots were militaristic like Rayne's, and there were tears in his gi pants. He had a strap across his chest, that held an unidentifiable weapon on his back. Around his neck as well as a thin black thong choker, he wore a locket. It was silver, with a black gem in it. It looked suprisingly feminine to be hung around the neck of a headstrong young man.
"And my name is Arienne." Said the last girl with long dark hair. "I'm Vegeta and Pan's daughter." She was wearing baggy gi pants, with sleeveless Saiya-jin style armour. She also wore long black gloves that reached her elbows, and down to her wrist, only covering one of her fingers in the black material. She did look like Vegeta, but her face wasn't harsh and hard to read like the princes'. Her expression was pleasant, but had a look of confidence and determination about her. The ends of her hair were dipped with a deep red.
Pan and the others gave their welcomes to them.
"Now, about the explanation." Rayne said. "Rhiamon, do the honors?"
Rhiamon complied, and began. "Okay, basically, it was a warm evening back in Autumn, roughly about 23 years back, my time. Vegeta and Trunks were sparring in an open area just outside of Satan City, on the outskirts. Goku, Pan and Bra were there too…."
