Black Flowers ; chapter 16, 'Free'
Cadell winced as he finished his tale. Bulma started to go to him, but he growled at her. She stopped, confused. He moved his hand to his side, and dark red stained his hand as he put pressure on it. "There's more... more you need to know." He continued.
Gohan frowned, watching his grandson struggle to ignore the pain of his injuries. "This can't wait?" he asked. Cadell locked his dark blue eyes on his in response, and Gohan could see Pan's stubbornness shining there in her son's eyes. He understood.
"The army… there was officers in particular. Raven, Razor, Pepper and others. We were under their control. We fought independently as a squadron, but these officers outranked us. Challenging them was foolish. Razor in particular... he knew. You could see it in his eyes as he looked at us with scrutiny. He knew long before we made our move…" Cadell explained grimly.
"What are you trying to say?" Vegeta demanded. "That you were careless in your scampering?"
Rhiamon frowned at the prince. "We weren't cowards." He snapped threateningly. As he gritted his teeth, his canines were visible. Arienne put a calming hand on his shoulder, and he was startled. But reluctantly settled. "When we made our move… they were ready for us. The bastards had known all along! We fought our way out. From the main deck of the ship, patrols had been planted. We took them out one by one. We had no other choice.
Cadell raised his head at the gunfire. "MOVE!" He barked. He leapt in front of Rhiamon's right side, halting the bullet with his ki. He crushed it in his leather gloved palm. The youths ran down the stark corridor, hearing the legion of footsteps approaching from all directions. Cadell looked around wildly. He skidded to a halt before the control panel for the main doors. He punched in the code. The red neon letters flashed 'Denied'. He swore loudly, punching the panel with his flaming gold fist. The panel began to sound an alarm, echoed all the way down the corridors. The hallways flashed neon red in blinks of an eye. Arienne stumbled into his side, and he roughly pushed her along the corridor in the direction of the pods. Her face was wild and confused. Cadell brought up the rear of the youths. "MOVE! THAT WAY!" He yelled viciously. They all scrambled, exploding with SSJ3 light and power. They reached the end of the corridor.
Rayne fought to keep her eyes open in the debris and flashing lights. "They've sealed the fucking doors!" She screamed above the unbelievable noise. Suddenly she was grabbed from behind, the strong arm choking her. The arm pressed against her airway, and she struggled wildly, the dead scent of leather filling her dilated nostrils. She clawed down the rough and weathered skin, drawing beads of blood with her nails. She felt the blow that contracted with her attackers head. He slumped over, dead. She fell to her knees, her throat burning and she gasped and wretched. Her eyes saw the man's knarled face, frozen forever in pain. Rayne was dragged up to her feet. Tristian clutched her arm tightly, bruising her creamy skin.
"This is no time for a damn tea break!" He scolded her viciously, still managing to crack a joke in their desperate situation. Suddenly, the air was filled with cries as patrol after patrol flooded the space like locusts.
Cadell was lost among them, fighting his way, trying to wildly look for the others among the carnage. He screamed a hoarse primal cry. His hair flashed blinding gold as he strained his power to the limits. The power exploded in waves around him, taking out his assailants all around him. The angered roar was all he heard as he spun to face the large soldier, slicing the sword through the air towards Cadell's skull. Cadell's eyes widened. There was no way out. Suddenly, the soldier choked, his mouth filled with blood, running down his chin in streams. The large form slumped to the floor, the sword he had been brandishing slicing through soldiers either side of him. Rhiamon stood behind the soldier's body, his eyes cold and void of humanity. Cadell smirked. The comrades stood back to back, roaring, all their Saiyan strength radiating from them. A figure joined them at their side, her long golden hair whipping around her hardened face. At their other side, another two figures. The man's thick braids burnished gold, the incredibly long strands of SSJ3 hair beginning at the nape of his neck. The girl, Her ditzy face cold, standing beside her brother, no fear in her kind eyes. The last took her place beside Cadell. He didn't look at her, but he knew who she was. Her shorter hair billowing as all six threw back their heads, screaming with incredible rage… and desperation. They must get out of this. You could see the whites of their eyes as each enemy around them was vanquished with the combined force of their power. Killing. This was their life. Killers. Mercilessness and cold. They all screamed at the same time when an intense metal bond clicked in all their heads. They all stumbled out of formation, images flashing before their eyes,.. Al the people they had slaughtered. All the blood... the screams. Some doubled over with effort, fighting the horrific and obscene pictures. The room seemed colder, all the more surreal as a presence seemed to approach. The other soldiers melted away around them. They all knew. The figure seemed to float along the corridor, his black cloak billowing behind him. He gracefully stopped, and the youths feverishly tried to look at him.
"My dear children…" His voice, so soft, so nurturing…"My dear, dear children…" So welcoming. It filled each youth with a yearning, a desire to be close to him. The remembrance of their childhood, they were suddenly small again. Their tails swishing with happiness. Purring with content at his feet. Fingers lightly tickling their chins. Curling up like kittens, the warmth, the security. The innocence of killing. The praise for blood shed. The kind words at such horrific and brutal acts. Their heads were filled with confusion, fighting the calm peacefulness. Fighting the cold… The cold that they were praised for.
"No!!!!" Cadell growled, clutching the fine purple hair in his hands, the silky strands slipping through his fingers. "It isn't right! It isn't right anymore!"
"My poor, poor Cadell..." the figure said softly. A warm hand caressed his cheek. "My poor, poor kitten."
"I won't kill like this anymore!" Cadell screamed. His throat was hoarse, tasting the burning electrical wires, their retched fumes choking the air. "We don't belong to you anymore! We won't kill innocent people!"
Tristian gasped for breath, his heart beating against his rib cage like a frightened rabbit. "It isn't right…" he echoed. "You can't make us kill for you!"
A smirk grew on I.R.Evils' face. "You can't change what you are…" He purred. "Change who you are. You're mine... each of you." Each youth felt something grasp them deep in their chests. "My pets…"
Rayne mentally tried to push away the persuasive force. "WE'RE NOT YOUR PETS!" She screamed. With a force of effort she didn't know she had, she screamed, exploding back into full power. She felt the hold on her loosen. "We're stronger than this! We can change!"
Her words stirred something in the youths. Something that seemed desperate, lost. Slowly, each of them stood straighter. Somehow, they managed to find each other's hands. Stood back to back, linked, they began to collect their power. Arienne's eyes held onto I.R.Evils. Even though they were now the colour of a warm blue lagoon, they seemed just as black as they naturally were. "You can't control us..." She growled, a manic smile found her lips. "You're going to die at our hands."
They heard his hoarse and pain filled scream as they unleashed their deadly energy. When the light faded, each youth stumbled with exhaustion. Cadell surveyed the carnage. He was gone… "Now! Let's go!" Trunks' son screamed. They broke into a run, their limbs weak and trembling. Rhiamon kicked the door, flaming with energy. The machine was unguarded. The soldiers abandoned their posts to hunt down the escaping rebels.
Tristian laughed hoarsely. "One bit of good luck. The bastards are making this too easy." He joked.
"Don't get arrogant just yet!" Rayne scolded him wisely. She smashed the shield on the controls, furiously typing.
"Hurry!" Cadell roared angrily.
"READY!" Rayne confirmed. The portal swirled into life, the youths not wasting any time in leaping through it. The tunnels of time and space were alive with colours and distant voices. "Stay together!" Rayne yelled worriedly. "If you're lost, you're lost forever!"
Eira looked back in the swirling abyss. "They're coming!" She shrieked. "They're here!"
Cadell swore loudly. "They've followed us! Our only hope now is to destroy the controls on the other side!"
They almost couldn't breathe in the immense pressure as they neared their destination. Tristian faced backwards blindly as they were sucked towards the end. "KA… ME…HA…ME…HA!!!!!!!" His last reserve of energy. The blast exploded at an amazing speed in the abyss. The explosion was heard far back, echoing like some far away nuclear blast. Tristian's body fell limp, raked with exhaustion he slipped unconscious.
Cadell took one last look at the blast's impact, hearing the battle cries much further behind than before. He allowed himself a manic smirk. He grabbed the scruff of Tristian's neck as they disappeared. "We're not losing you yet, little brother!"
They tumbled through the other end into the control room. Hordes of technicians cried out in confusion and surprise at the youth's intrusion. Rhiamon threw a blazing punch at the main control panel, and it fizzled and smoked. "It's gonna blow!" He cried to the others. They all ran out of the control room, Cadell carrying Tristian as the explosion erupted behind them, scorching the emblem on the back of their gi's.
"They may have landed anywhere within mere years of here." Rayne said as they stopped. "We have to go, now! Compress you ki's... All of you!" They all clutched onto Rayne's tattered gi as she held her hand to her forehead. She frowned with concentration. A choked sob almost escaped her lips. "I can feel my father! Goku!" She cried out. "Here we go!"
They all disappeared into thin air as the patrols came skidding around the corner. They all stopped with confusion, the intruders gone without a trace.
Rayne fell to her knees as they materialized. They looked around the seeming barren landscape with confusion.
"Where the hell are we?" Rhiamon choked out. His voice was filled with desperation. "Have we failed?"
They were at the bottom of a crevice, the area surrounded by tall rocky mountains. It looked dry, deserted. Most likely a kind of desert. Eira fell to her knees too, her slender fingers digging in the hot sand. "Where are we...?" She whimpered. "I want to go home!" She cried.
Rhiamon spun to face her, his face angered. "That wasn't home!" he yelled at her. He watched as her dainty face crumpled with tears. She began to tremble with fear at his harsh words. "Oh Dende... Eira-chan... I'm sorry!" He stuttered.
Suddenly, each youth shivered. Something was approaching. They looked up as the group flew overhead. They felt the ki's of the Saiyans. The brilliant blue sky was striped with perfect vapor trails. Cadell laid Tristian gently in the soft sand. He laughed unnaturally. "Our... our parents!" He cried out.
"We're repressing our ki's, they can't sense us yet!" Rayne laughed. She spun to face the others, her dull eyes now bright.
Cadell knelt down to his baby brother. "You did good, bro. I'm proud of you." He said. He looked up at the other youths. "We'll wait until Tristian recovers before we pursue the group." He stood up shakily on his strong but weary limbs. With a defiant gesture, he tore the black gi top from his body, letting it and it's symbol float down onto the sand. He faced the other youths, his face solemn but victorious. His stance was of a leader, defiant and true. Rayne, Arienne, Rhiamon and Eira each tore away the symbol of their captors too. The black gi's fell into the pile in a heap. Suddenly, a sixth joined them. The youths spun to see Tristian, shakily leaning upwards on his elbows, lifting his torso. He too only wore the deep purple undershirt like them.
Eira dried her tears. "Are we… are we free?" The youths drew each other into their arms, all laughing excitedly. Cadell allowed himself to be hugged in celebration, but far away, his mind knew the harsh truth. With a frown, he lifted his hand, letting the ki energy from his hand set the gi's alight. The youths fell silent, watching the fire burn.
