ChiChi floated in the cool water, staring up at the darkening sky. She enjoyed the feeling of being weightless, and loved the silky feel of the water on her skin. Her dark chocolate hair fanning around her, looking black from being wet. She looked the most normal out of her sisters, her dark brown eyes and hair could almost be mistaken for black. Maybe that was why her father had chosen her…. or maybe it was because he knew she wouldn't protest? When her father still loved them, he had often said that she was the most like their mother, because of her sweet temperament. But it was that same caring nature that made it so easy for him to take advantage of her.

Flicking the water, ChiChi realized it didn't matter anymore. Ever since her father had pushed her onto the streets, a part of her died. It was easy to act like nothing was wrong or different, but that didn't stop the torrent of tears she used to shed every night until…

Until she decided to not cry anymore. To no longer be weak. It was her one small act of defiance, and it wasn't a very big one, but it seemed as if it was the only thing that kept her going at times. With a graceful flip, she went underwater. Resurfacing she gasped for air, and swam to the edge of the lake. It was getting dark, time for her to go home and time for her to get to work….

As she got out, she reached for her towel, and the pad of paper, and pencil on top of it. Enveloping herself in the warm towel, she went to sit in her customary spot, a large rock that seemed to collect the sunshine, and had a good view of the lake and the surrounding scenery.

Sitting down in a cross-legged style, she flipped upon her notebook of paper, and held her pen arched over the paper. This was one of the few times she felt truly at peace. Letting her inner feelings flow across the paper in a torrent of words. She seemed separate from the world around her when she wrote, as if she wasn't really alive, just observing everything around her. She wrote whatever caught her fancy at the time, however her notebook was mostly filled with her emotions, and sometimes about nature. Eyeing the sky, as it changed to various colors as the sunset, she craned her neck, leaned down over the paper, and pressed her pen to the paper.

Dark sapphire blue fades into soft black.

Wrapping the world in a blanket of darkness.

Light emanating from stars.

That twinkle like tiny jewels in the midnight sky.

The moon shines it luminescent glow on the world below.

Like a mother watching over her sleeping children.

Only to be chased away by the morning sun.

Casting shades of colors and light into the somber sky.

Like a painter adding color to an empty canvas

She couldn't hate the night, even though it meant that she had to work. Maybe tonight, she wouldn't work. Maybe tonight would be different…

Maybe tonight she would finally tell her father no.

Vegeta walked purposefully down the hall. He was in a good mood, until his father decided to ruin it. He wondered what was so important that his father would pull him from training sessions, but couldn't think of anything. Lately his father hadn't really been focused on matters of the kingdom, and left most of it to a very bewildered Vegeta. He had taken the reigns as well as he could, and made some progress with whipping the Royal Guards into shape. Just it was hard to undo what years of slovenly habits encouraged indirectly by his father had caused.

"Ah Vegeta…" His father began.

"What do you what?" Vegeta scowled.

"To remind you of this evenings entertainment. Tonight, there is to be a ball…." He began.

"A ball?" Vegeta replied. "Since when?"

"Well…we have had this planned for quite some time now, it was just never convenient to tell you." His father replied. There were innumerable times they could have informed him of this ball, but they did not, for fear that he would find some other excuse not to go. Now it seemed as if Vegeta was going to have to go, unless he could miraculously think of a way out of it by supper.

If not, it would be another boring night, be suffocated by well-meaning ladies who spewed fake pleasantries in hopes of making him fall madly in love with them. Vegeta snorted, as if that would ever happen.

"Does this amuse you?" The king asked, as he peered at his son.

"Not at all father. " Vegeta replied stoically.

"Good. Then I shall look forward to seeing you at the ball this evening. There are several young women from prominent families attending. They are said to be quite beautiful…" The king began earnestly. It was about time his unruly son settled down and chose a mate. The sound of a slamming door caused the King to stop talking as he realized his son had left. At least Vegeta would be at the ball tonight.

"Hey vegetable-head! Why the long face?" Kakarrot asked, as he saw a very angry Vegeta stalk back into the training room.

"My father is having a ball tonight." Vegeta snarled.

"Yeah…You just heard about that?" Krillen replied.

"You mean to say you guys knew about this and didn't tell me?" Vegeta looked at his friends' incredulously.

"Well….we weren't allowed to tell you…" Krillen began.

"And I forgot." Kakarrot said, smiling. "If I had known it would have made you this upset, we would have told you."

"Fools! You know how I detest my father's social gatherings. Now I have no choice but to go… But at least I have time to give you two a severe beating before we have to get ready." Vegeta smiled evilly.

"That's what you think, my prince!" Kakarrot cried, as he powered up.

"We have no intention of losing to you today." Krillen shouted, as he got into his fighting stance.

"Are you ready to go out and make your father proud?" Master Roshi asked of his middle daughter.

"I won't go." ChiChi stated.

"What? What do you mean you won't go?" He roared.

"Exactly what I said. I won't go, and nothing you can say will make me do otherwise." ChiChi said, her dark eyes glowing with an inner fury.

"Oh you will pay for that….Oh yes indeed…" He began as he powered up.

"No, she won't." Bulma replied calmly.

"You can't hurt us anymore." 18 added. ChiChi looked at them stunned. Where had they come from? It seemed as if they had just appeared from the shadows. Had they been there this whole time? Looking over at them, she saw them looking at her with pride.

"Since when do you two care what you slut of a sister does?" Master Roshi shouted.

"We never interfered before old man, because it was her decision to make. We will support her no matter what she chooses, even if it does break our hearts." 18 said coolly.

"You will live to regret your decisions on this night." Master Roshi said, as he, much to his daughters' surprise, left the house. Leaving his other two daughters to comfort ChiChi.

Okay, next chapter things start to pick up, so sorry if these chapters seems kinda blah.

And I hope you guys like the way I portrayed the characters, their traits will become important later, and I am not trying to make chichi the "weak' one or 18 the "mean" one, they are more in-depth then that.
