0Author notes:

Originally this story was suppose to be written after I wrote a different story on the origin of GoAkia and how she came about. But I seemed to have misplaced the disk that story was on, and I will not rewrite it. So I started this story (which I was planning anyway).

Enjoy

p.s. Ohh I forgot…don't hate me forever when you learn `the secret' there is a reason that the particular character did what he did. You'll learn about it in the other story, when I find that darn disk. For I ain't totally destroying his personality for my own reasons

In the land of the dead, it is said that the souls of those that have departed leave a piece of themselves behind. If they died well the landscape suffers no harm, but if their deaths are filled with sorrow…and fear, then the land shall become a reflection of their pain. Most of the earth now belongs to the dead. Thousands of lives snuffed out, their fear stains the ground and the land grows dark. Black storming clouds now obscure the sun, casting their dreary shadow, allowing no light to penetrate. And upon the ground filth and sludge clogged every crack and pore, filling the air with a sickly sweet rotting stench that stains the very walls with it putrid stench! Not even the never ending rain can wash away the smell.

Have you ever wished for the sun? Wished for a clear blue sky with all your heart and soul. Wanted it so badly that you would kill just for a moment of release.

I have.

I want nothing more. Nothing more than the sun on my face and a clear sky. Is that too hard to image, is that asking too much?

Am I being selfish?

Rain nothing but rain for days and days.

I would like to think I'm not selfish but I know I am wrong. With so much pain in the world, so much death, I should be worried about how to fix things after the androids. But I can't, I can't think pass this damned rain!

Trunks emitted a strange noise from the back of his throat before kicking a slab of stone, almost as big as him self out of the way. He was looking for survivors. The rain that he hated so much poured down hard soaking him to the bone. Every now and then Trunks would follow a sound into a dark ally, only to come face to face with a dead end. So was the story of his life. A few times though, those sounds were `would be' muggers, which of course he easily took care of. He would then leave a marker for the servant bots to pick up the unconscious bodies and take them to Cap. Corp.

Trunks sighed as he sat down on an old broken bench. Oh boy was he exhausted. The old bench creaked under his weight. He looked down into a puddle and laughed sourly. Kami he looked terrible, his long normally clean and silky hair lay plastered against his face, it was dirty and dull looking now. Not only that his cloths were even worst with mud, oil, blood and god knows what else streaked all over them. I probable smell like I look, terrible!

Trunks leaned back and propped his feet onto a hunk of sidewalk that was uprooted. It was been two weeks since he had gone back in time. Two weeks since he had fought the androids with his new power. Somewhere in that time Android 18 met a very painful and not so quick death at his enraged hands. (17 had gotten away but not for long) Two weeks of rain and two weeks of searching for 17 and what few humans were left and at least 4 days since he had a bath he thought bitterly!

A sudden noise startled Trunks and he leaned up listening. I thought I heard something…? He sniffed the air cautiously even as his eyes scanned the dark streets. He cursed the dark cloud; they made it hard to penetrate the lengthening shadows. Shadows that could be hiding anything from a starving human to a murderous 17.

"I hate this."

The minutes pass slowly but when nothing else tipped his senses he reluctantly leaned back again and resumed his dark thoughts.

Lazily a thought he had been avoiding surfaced. For as heartless as it sounded it irked him that he had to be the one looking for these people. Hadn't he done enough? He had fought his whole life, lost his mentor, his father everyone! He went back in time for these people, had died for them and killed for them! And now they even made him look for them in the cold pouring rain!

Suddenly Trunks screamed in frustration and slammed his fist into the bench. Trunks shook his head as he stood up and his seat crumbled. Becoming just another destroyed structure amongst giants.

"Why did I do that? Lost a good siting spot…(sigh)…I wonder what father is doing?"

Try as he may Trunks just couldn't let the memory of his father rest. Every day he visualized his father's cold farewell that was so much more than it seemed. Whenever he let his mind wander his thoughts rested on those in a world he left a better place. He sometimes even wished to go back and be a part of their world. He would even go back into that horrible time chamber just to talk to his father. Trunks still had the time machine and it was charged ready to go. As a precaution in case Cell was more than he could handle. It was a useless jester for he wasn't about let Cell even become partially complete. And as far as visiting even for fun, Trunks knew better than to interfere in their lives anymore just for his own pleasure. I must be content with my own or I will never be happy.

Trunks sighed and looked about the ruined city those streets he wandered. Destroyed building and silent streets were all that was left of Ruggland City a once bustling beautiful town. It was amazing how things like this weighed on ones soul. The very sight of the place with its deathly silence made it difficult just to go on. Its as if the people that died that day are jealous of the living and what us to join them. This was the 8th town they hit. How many innocent souls died that day and are still dying. A violent need to shudder gripped Trunks and he held his breath, listening even harder for sounds that weren't there. Everything about this place tempted Trunks to do what he must not, but he would endure not matter how much it unnerved him.

"Maybe I should go home now. No one in their right mind would be out in this!"

Trunks had just about made up his mind was going to fly off when an explosion rocked the earth and an ear-shattering scream pierced the air. He lost his balance as the earth rocked underneath him. The very pavement cracked and rose up trying to swallow him. Dark billowing smoke filled the air choking him with its sickening stench. Trunks got up quickly not even bothering to dust himself off and flew toward the scene. For among the noise and screams he heard a familiar sound, a familiar laugh, a cold laugh!

"Well human ready to die?"

On the ground in front of the Android a bundle of cloths moved but did not speak. 17 sneered disgusted at the shapeless wrap.

"You know we could have had a lot of fun. All you had to do was please me and I'd let you live. But no you had to be feisty and fight me. Now you will die sweetheart! Ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!

The wrap moved and a tiny feminine voice spoke out. It was weak and unsteady but all the same a deadly threat lingered around it.

"You…you killed my family…and…and no matter what! You WILL pay you monster!"

Trunks watched silently wondering who had such courage to challenge such a monster when they didn't have a chance in hell to win. Then slowly the wrap stood up to reveal the most beautiful woman Trunks had ever seen. His very breath caught in his throat as she tossed her cloak aside and assumed a fighting stance. She was gorgeous. All three figures remained still not yet willing to break the silence that had settled with the sun. Trunks wondered if he should interfere, but one look at the woman told him no.

Let her fight her battle, of course I'll save her before he kills her, but some battles need to be fought alone.

Suddenly the woman launched herself at 17, and faster than anyone would have guessed she popped him a good one on the chin. 17's head whipped to the side and he almost felled down. For a second he just stood there bent over holding his chin. Then slowly he turned and glared at down at her. Trunks eyes nearly popped out of his head as he watched with morbid fascination a tiny stream of blood that poured from his lip.

She actually hurt him a little. She actually drew blood! But how?!

Trunks then took another good looked at her. She looked human and he could sense a ki from her so she wasn't an android. Suddenly Trunks saw the reason she was so strong and he nearly choked. Looking down one could just make out a tiny little light brown thing wrapped tightly around her waist. SHE WAS AN SAIY-JIN!

"No way! This can't be how can she be a Saiy-jin."

Trunks head whirled. OK only four Saiy-jin survived Frieza. So she has to be at least half-human. Although there was no way she was Vegeta's kid. I hope. So that narrows the field a bit.

"She doesn't really look old enough to be Rattizes or Nappa's. So who?"

Suddenly an answer came to him. It's possible that she's Gohan's child.

"But why didn't he tell me…and if she is, he had her when he was really young. Probably only a few years after the androids."

Trunks shook his head. His answer sounded about right but…then why was he having doubts. I don't know what it is but for some reason…I don't really think…she is…Gohans?

Trunks got a grip on himself and watched the fight that had started. For not being a super Saiy-jin she was doing all right. Although it was painfully obvious that she wouldn't win.

"I have to get involved now if I am going to question her anytime soon."

With hate burning in his mind and soul, Trunks calmly walked out into the open. The Android was so wrapped up in beating the crap out of the girl he didn't notice him. Until Trunks brazenly tapped 17 on the shoulder. The Android spun around and gasped as he realized who had come up behind him.

"Trunks…"

His young voice wavered with unseen fear. He started slowly backing up looking side to side for an escape.

"Not this time 17! I let you go the first time…now join your sister in hell!"

In less than an instant Trunks transformed and attacked the android. Mere moment later after one clean swipe, a headless body fell limply to the ground. A cold smile touched Trunks handsome face. As he wasted no time destroying every last gear and circuit with a fiery frenzy that only pure hate could fuel. When he was done nothing but a scorched ground and a red bandanna was left. Still smiling a smile not unlike his fathers he put the bandanna in his pocket. This would be a souvenir, a trophy of war, just like 18's pearl necklace was.

Turning away from the carnage in front of him Trunks walked softly to the girl 17 was attacking. When Trunks attacked the force had thrown her back.

Trunks felt a stab of guilt, he shouldn't had done that. He should have waited to make sure she was OK first

Trunks reached out to shake her hoping she was alive and conscious.

"Is it…dead."

"Uhh…ya."

The voice startled him. He didn't even know she was aware of his presence.

"Here let me help you. Are you hurt? What's your name?"

A millions question buzzed in his mind as he helped the girl to her feet…no not a girl. After getting a better look at her body and feeling her soft curves as he lifted her up, defiantly a woman.
"Not so fast one question at a time."

Trunks slowly let go of her so she could stand herself, big mistake! He had barely let go of her when her legs gave out from under her. Trunks caught her easily. To her credit and Trunks admiration she didn't cry out.

She looked at him as she fought another wave of dizziness then quickly looked away a blush touching her beautiful face.

"Sorry I'm just a little dizzy."

"That's to be expected after such a beating."

He slight blush turned into a blazing inferno. Trunks helped her to a rock, which she could rest comfortably. Then taking out a capsule he clicked it and a refrigerator came out.

"So what would you like? There's about everything in here…um I'm sorry I don't have a medkit with me."

"That's ok. I'm fine really…umm thanks I'll take grape."

Trunks smiled and handed her a can. There was a moment of uncomfortable silence as she sipped her drink. Trunks took this moment to get a good look at her again. Her hair was longer than he thought and it had a familiar shape although he couldn't think why.

Her eyes were a strikingly bright gold even through the black eye that was starting to swell already. She shifted uncomfortably and gazed up at him. He lost himself in her eyes.

"Hehe…um well thank you anyway? Um I best get going?"

She jumped up and handed him the drink. He looked at it then her surprised. That was it! No explanations no nothing!

"Wait a freaken kami's minute!"

She stopped and looked at him a slight look of fear in her eyes.

"Listen mister…I…I know I owe you and you can make me if you want. I'm not strong enough to stop you but please…."

Now it was Trunks turn to blush. She must think…well no wonder I bet every man she's ever met has tried to get her in bed. She's so beautiful.

"No no no I ain't…I mean…just wait please."

The young girl looked side to side slightly nervous, but deciding she better wait.

"I have some questions for you miss. Um this may sound strange, but who are your parents?"

Her golden eyes rested on him surprised at such a strange question.

"I…I don't know. I was adopted when I was a baby."

Trunks suddenly stood up and glared down at her. Her eyes widened with unseen fears.

"Listen this is very important! Please tell me the truth! Who are you parents!"
"How dare you call me a liar! You jerk!"
She jumped up and pushed him aside very angry and no longer scared. He was once again surprised by her strength. She would make a great fighter.

"I'm leaving! I don't care if you saved my life! Nobody calls me a liar!"

Suddenly Trunks flashed in front of her his steely blue eyes piercing through her.

She gasped as her reached and grabbed her arm. She winced as he gave it what he thought was a gentle squeeze.

"Listen this is very important if you truly don't know who your parents are it'll be all right. But if you're lying…well lets just say all the worse for you."

"Ahhh I don't know I really don't know! Please!!"

Trunks nodded and let her go and motioned for her to sit. Which she did so gingerly while rubbing her bruised arm.

"Listen this may come as a shock to you but I may know who your father is."

She gapped at him her mouth hanging open then she shook her head and looked excitedly at him. Trunks drew his conclusion that she wasn't lying about not knowing.

"What! Are you serious!"
"Yes, you see your father and I have a lot in common. We're both half-breeds."

"Half-breeds?"

"Yes half human, half Saiy-jin."

"Saiy-jin what's that?"

"An alien species that's almost extinct. You and I are all that's left."

"Wait if you and I are all that's left then that means my father is dead."

"Yes I'm sorry. He died a long time ago."

Um…how do you know that I'm a Saiy-jin!"

"Your tail."
"MY TAIL! AAAAHHHH Oh my gosh it must have come out! I was hiding it! Don't you look you pervert!"

"Hehe no no all Saiy-jins have tails."

That got her attention.

"Really? Do you have one."

"Well no it was cut off when I was a baby."

"Oh…so what was my fathers name?"

"Well I not really sure. There are five different people it could be. Rattizics, Nappa, Vegeta, Gohan, and Goku, but I personally think it might be Gohan.

"Gohan? That's really weird…you may be right."

"Uh why?"

"Well I was named by my real parents…at least what is what mama said."
"Well what you're name."
"It's GoAkia."
"GoAkia?"

Trunks thoughts raced `GoAkia' no doubt about it she must be Gohan's. I wonder who her mother was? I didn't know Gohan even had a girlfriend.

"Hey listen GoAkia if you don't have anything better to do how about you come over to my place Cap. Cor. My mother would love to meet you, and maybe we can take a trip up to your Grandma and great-grandpa.

"I…I have a family."

"Yes if your dad was really Gohan."

GoAkia nodded absent-mindly, rubbing her bruised arm.

"Ya I'll go. Besides it seems like you know a lot about these Saiy-jins…and my father?"

Trunks smiled things were starting to look up for a thin ray of sun just broke through the stormy clouds and the rain slacked a bit.

(back a caps.corp.)

Bulma was excited. For at long last the package she had been expecting had come. The rather large plain brown box didn't even come close to signifying how truly wonderful it was.

"Oh I can't wait until Trunks gets here he will be so excited!"

Just then right on cue Bulma heard the front door open then slam shut.

"Darn that boy! How many times do I have to tell him not to SLAM THE DOOR!!"

Bulma looked up when Trunks didn't answer her. Where is he?

"Trunks were are you? Hello Trunks?"

"I'm in the med-room."

Pure terror ripped through Bulma as she dropped her notebook and raced for the med-room, even the wonderful package was forgotten at the thought of Trunks being hurt.

Turning a corner Bulma entered the med-room and ran to Trunks.

"Are you hurt? Let me see! Oh Trunks I told you to be careful!"

Bulma was panicking as she forced his jacket off and looked for mortal wounds.

"Mom…mom…MOM!"

Bulma stopped her examination to look up at her son.

"I'm not hurt…she is."

Bulma blinked and looked over to the examination table. A pretty little girl was sitting calmly on it looking slightly embarrassed and amused.

Blushing to her purple roots Bulma stood up and laughed.

"Oh silly me…hehe…well now lets see what I can do for you miss."

"Mom?"

"Yes son."

"My jacket?"

Bulma looked at her hand and the jacket that she had a death grip on.

"Oh um yes here son…deep breath… DON'T YOU EVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!!"

Trunks just laughed as he accepted his coat and found a seat.

Bulma now calm since she knew her son was fine grabbed a stethoscope and got to work on the young lady.

An hour and yards of tape and Band-Aids later Bulma patted herself on the back and proclaims GoAkia fit. All though out the session Trunks watched GoAkia and the way she interacted with his mother. She was friendly and talkative but reserved. It amused him that his mother hadn't even noticed Goakia's tail. Of course she's doing a really good job at hiding it. Maybe I should bring it to mother's attention and get her view on it.

"So GoAkia how about showing Mom?"

Bulma turned to give her son a questioning look, then looked at GoAkia. The girl fidgeted casting a shy and embarrassed glance toward Trunks.

"I don't really want too."

Trunks gave her a very hard look borrowed from his father; it even sent a shiver down Bulma's spine. Where did he learn that? And look at that poor girl, I can tell she's scared to death of him. What did he do to her to scare her so?

All thoughts were rudely interrupted when much to Bulma's surprise a small brown furry thing appear from out of no where.

"Mother, we talked and the best I can guess is that she might be Gohan's daughter."

"Wow Gohan's daughter…I can't believe it…and talk about timing!"

"What are you talking about."

Bulma jumped up her eyes sparkling and cheeks flushed. She smiled a smile that suggested that she knew something he didn't.

It's about time I did something for this world too Trunks. You've had way too much weight on your young shoulders.

"Come on I'll show you."

So GoAkia and Trunks followed Bulma into the lab. She then picked up the forgotten package and handed it to Trunks.

"Open it."

Trunks gave her a strange look but shrugged and tore into the paper. Inside was a round glass-like thing…with a bright gold star in the middle. It was a DRAGON BALL.

"But how?"

Trunks couldn't believe his eyes a dragon ball. Where did it come from and how did mother get it? He watched his mother under hooded eyes she looked so happy.

"The Nameks gave it to me!"

"The Nameks…That Great! So how many more do we need to collect!"
"None this is a one ball Dragon complements of the elder Namek!"
"Mother? Does you mean…"
"Yes we can bring forth the dragon today!!"
"But how…Mother I thought that there had to be seven? Even the Namek balls had seven."

"Well those other balls were for people that had yet to prove their worth. This is a special Dragon, the Elder Namek creates it to reward someone that has done a great deed and has already proven worthy. So there's no searching and it can be summoned only once after that the ball disappears and can never be made again by the same Namek! That's why there is only one ball. And from what I understand the Gold Dragon hasn't been summoned for thousands of years, it's a great honor!"

"Wow."

"Yes Trunks, you see I contacted the Nameks almost three years ago and asked if we could go to the new Namek and use the Dragon balls. Well to make a long story short the Elder Namek told me about the Golden Dragon and how powerful and special it was, and that he was willing to make it. Because of what Goku did and because we let them stay at our place. I just got it today!"

Trunks ran his hand over the beautiful glass surface. Like the Earth balls it could fit easily into ones hand but that was were any similarities ended. Instead of being kind of red and orange with a red star in the middle the outside of the gold dragon ball was a beautiful white opal and inside unlike the other dragon ball those colors remained the same. This one had many barely visual colors fading in and out making it hard to decide the right color. Another difference is that the star was a glowing deep gold. He could actually feel the power pulsing under his hand it was amazing.

"And guess what! Unlike the Namek and Earth balls this Dragon is so powerful that she can even bring back people that died a natural death!"

"Mother, that means…Goku…let's bring them back."

Bulma nodded and followed her son out the door with GoAkia trailing behind. Once outside Bulma handed Trunks a note with the password written on it. Trunks shook his head as he set the ball on the ground.

"No mother you do it. You deserve this honor more than I."

Bulma took a deep shaky breath and nodded. Then steeling herself she closed her eyes and recited the words that were now etched into her heart.

"Miea codiea te som more!"

For a moment nothing happened…then dark billowing clouds filled the sky and the dragon ball started to glow. They all held their breaths as the seconds passed with the slowness of eternity.

When the Dragon came out it was grand! Trunks had never seen anything like it. Gold and white lights race toward the sky and after a blinding flash a beautiful creature lay before them. She wasn't nearly as large as Shan-lung but Trunks could feel her awesome power. It was amazing what those Nameks could do.

"I am Kiwiwana the Gold Dragon. I will grant you who are worthy one wish, chose your words carefully."

Her voice rolled like thunder yet was gentle as a summer breeze. GoAkia stared up at the wonder mystified beyond belief. Yet something was amiss for as Bulma was getting her wits together GoAkia slowly walked forward strangely drawn to this beautiful creature.

The Dragon for the first time looked down and the world stood still, not even the wind blew as Kiwiwana gazed at the small girl.

"I…I've seen you before."

That simple sentence caused Trunks and Bulma to stop in their thought tracks and stare at her. Trunks took a step toward her a concerned expression on his face.

"GoAkia what…do you mean…"

Trunks looked up at the dragon and grew silent. She was looking at GoAkia a thunderous expression on her face. Now you did it! But Kiwiwanna actually words were kind and confused him beyond belief.

"So you have finally come. Many centuries I have waited, but you may have come to late. I can see much Child but then again so do you.

"What do you mean by see?"

The dragon actually startled at her simple question and glared hard at her.

"Has your mother taught you nothing!"

"What? I never knew my mother. I was adopted when I was a baby.

"WHAT!"

Kiwiwanna voice rolled like thunder. All present covered their ears against the fury.

"You have not be trained. You know not what you see. So much the worse of this world, for dark days are coming. Alas sooner than expected."

"I don't understand!"

"You don't need to…now."

"Dragon!"

A scream erupted from Bulma's throat it was a cry of despair. Tears streaked down her face as she ran forward to stand beside GoAkia.

"I can't stand it! What do you mean? Haven't we suffered enough! What dark thing is coming!"
"That Earthling I can not answer only the one that sees can penetrate the darkness of the void."

Bulma shook her head hardly daring to believe that another nightmare was starting. Steeling her resolve Bulma looked up; the dragon was staring at her. Her eyes grew wide and she lip trembled as she looked into their deep depths. Something strange was happening. Bulma could feel it in her bones. Her head felt light and the world started to spin. With a gasp Bulma fell back, her son easily caught her and gave the dragon a hard deadly glare. The dragon merely nodded.

"Things are not as they should. The darkness has been here and caused chaos. The one is unknowing, and only one key is present. Without all three of the keys, everything will be lost!"
"What do you mean by the three keys?"
"They are the teachers of the one. To be whole the spirits of the mind, body, and soul, must be united. It is against the rules…but your kind has suffered so much. I will try to fix all I can. I fear I have come too late to undo all damage. The red one has been before me and wiped this planet clean. So I will grant your one wish and do what I can. Now please make your wish. I can not remain in this world much longer."

"Oh yes…I…we wish for the Z-fighters to live again."

The Dragons seemed to smile and her eyes started to glow as she concentrated on her task. The air around them grew hot and heavy, it even hummed so great was her power.

"You wish well Bulma. It is granted I bid you farewell and good luck."

And with that the Great Dragon Kiwiwana disappeared and the dragon ball turned to stone and crumbled.

What keys, and what teachers, and who's the student?"

GoAkia stood beside Bulma her face thoughtful.

"I think I'm the student. I don't know why but somehow I know…?"

Trunks nodded a fierce look in his eyes.

"I think she's right mother."

Bulma turned to GoAkia. And not for the first time Bulma noticed her eyes. They seemed to be an even more vivid shade of gold than before. They somehow reminded her of the golden dragon with the way they shimmered and sparkled in the darkness. I wonder if those are the eyes that can pierce the darkness?

An eerie silence settled after the Dragon departure, no bird or breeze dared to interrupt it. Slowly Trunks turned to GoAkia. She was visually shaken her wide eyes locked onto Trunks and he shivered. Something dark was coming he could feel it now, now that the clouds have parted some. He had been too wrapped up in his misery to notice. He didn't have much time; he would have to train like never before if he was to be ready. Trunks still gazing at the lovely GoAkia made a promise to himself and the to the Gold Dragon. He knew she wanted it that way that's why she granted their wish. He was to protect GoAkia; and protect her he would to the death and beyond! I swear on my honor and everything I hold dear Kiwiwanna. We will beat this thing!
