The sun, slowly sinking beneath purple waters, reminded him of tears. Wanting to fling himself-face forward-into the stinging saltwater, Trunks nonetheless remained standing. He didn't know if he could reach the face behind the tears, no matter how much he wished to. Besides, Marron probably wouldn't let him.

"I...Marron." It wasn't a question. But, neither was it a statement. Not truly.

"Trunks, please. Don't make this harder than it has to be." Blonde hair hid her face, almost purposely, as Trunks took her arms in his hands.

"Harder than it has to be?" His voice, whisper quiet, held a mirthless laugh. "I've never done anything harder in my life. I don't know what to say, or how to say what I don't know." Sea spray traveled down his face, as he pulled the slight figure to him.
"No. Marron, please, don't fight me on this. I have to.." Trunks trailed off, unwilling to commit a fuax pause, even now. Especially here.

Nodding, she encircled her arms around him, turning her face into his sweater. "Do you really have to go?" Marron tensed, waiting for a reply as Trunks sighed. She shook her head. "Never mind. I know it's not important. That..." Marron swallowed hard, and forced herself to look at Trunks, " that...I can't be important."

"But you are! To me, you are-are my guiding light! I'd be lost without you."
"And I can't be." Marron ruthlessly suppressed her tears, as well as her love. Determined to stay strong, she forced herself away too, masking her pain. "After all, I'm not a star."

Knowing what she was doing-or trying to-Trunks didn't press her for the truth. He couldn't; there was just too much at stake. He wouldn't even tell her how much her words cost him. To bring such pain and not be able to wash it away, not to soothe and comfort her, or to honor and obey; suddenly, it seemed that his upcoming marriage was too overwhelming for words. Yet, something needed to be said. He needed to say it, or else it'd eat him up inside, knowing that he'd never have another chance in his life.

"Marron...you...know...I..."

"yes, Trunks." Marron's voice collapsed. She turned toward the hidden jewel, enveloped within the water depths. "I know."
