Chapter 4
Willpower

Chi Chi picked the washing from line and folded them carefully in her plastic basket. The sun was basking her cheeks a moment ago, the warmth like a much needed friend, but now a chilly shadow crept over the Earth and Chi Chi opened her eyes. The sky had gone darker despite the time of day. Huge, dark and looming clouds gathered in the sky and she watched as lightening crackled in the distance. She wondered what was going on, knowing all too well that such an act of nature was severely unnatural this time of year. She suddenly felt a bitter chill on her skin which matched her spite; where was Goku? He sure was gone for a long time. He had told her that morning that he was going to see what that thing was from the sky. Did that `thing from the sky' hold a monster and wasn't he fighting it now?

“Oh, if I get my hands on him!” Chi Chi clenched her fists and rolled up a sleeve, looking forward to giving Goku a good punch. How could he?! Didn't he know that she needed his ass here with her, especially now that Goten no longer lived with them?! How could he?!

“Hi Chi Chi!” came a familiar voice. Chi Chi turned and was greeted by Krillin, a friendly smile on his face, his hands waving at her. Chi Chi felt even angrier now. Krillin of all people, Goku's fighting buddy!

“Hey, weird weather ha?”

“Yes, it is,” she managed to say, “Well, what can I do for you?”

“Well um, 18 and Marron have gone shopping so I hoped Goku and I could spar! I mean, while I'm still looking for a job there's not much to do…” he trailed off mumbling.

Chi Chi frowned in disapproval, “Well he isn't with me,” and she quickly added a “sorry”. Krillin nodded and felt a sudden jolt in his spine.

“Whoa, do you feel that? It's enormous!”

Chi Chi looked at him and screeched when he suddenly darted past her and knocked her washing basket over, blazing into the sky. He headed for the direction of the clouds, which, she estimated, were coming from about a million miles away. `That's where Goku's fighting that monster no doubt...'

Chi Chi sighed and picked up her washing as her anger subsided. As long as he comes for supper, she thought wearily and returned back into her house.

The Gobanian had pierced another spell in Vegeta's head and his eyes blurred considerably red. He could feel his palms sweat profoundly and the stench of the Gobanian increased ten fold. Vegeta thought he was going to gag. He immediately braced himself for any coming attack.

“Hah ha ha ha ha ha ha!” it cackled in pleasure. His voice had that affect on Vegeta again; a chill and cold fear that created a lump in his throat and his heart to freeze.

KCHACK!

Vegeta fell to the floor and coughed out blood. He felt a throbbing at the back of his head and an ache in his gut. How did he get attacked at two places at once? He didn't even notice the Gobanian move! What the hell?!

BAF!

Vegeta was kicked in the rib and into the dirt. Another attack was coming, but Vegeta blocked it. Holding whatever it was he was holding to, Vegeta got to his feet and threw the creature into the air. He swiftly raised his hand in the air; thumb, index and middle finger lifted and aimed at his opponent's gut.

Eat this you son-of-a-bitch!

“Atomic Blast!”

The attack went straight through the Gobanian's left gut, missing his target slightly. He inwardly cursed at his wary precision and rubbed his eyes fiercely to rid himself from his vision impairment. The Gobanian was too surprised to utter a scream and fell to the ground like a ghost, his mouth wide in shock. Vegata smiled wickedly.

When Vegeta looked up he watched the Gobanian stare at him with hatred beyond compare. Vegata was used to that, he'd be surprised if he didn't see that in the creature's eyes. But something wasn't quite right… he wasn't bleeding! If Vegeta knew his alien anatomy (which he knew fairly well), then he had destroyed several ribs and one of his 7 stomachs. Vegeta could only smell a fair amount of blood, but not the huge tidal wave that is supposed to be coming from his body now!

Vegeta watched again and thought he was dreaming. Sparks were soaring from its side and a weird metal was protruding from somewhere... he couldn't tell how or where dammit, his vision was killing him!

“Ow Vegeta, ow!!” he spat, “That, was stronger then I expected. Guess I should have paid attention to instructions….”

Vegeta blasted off for another attack and aimed a kick for his head. It ducked and punched Vegeta in the gut. A surge of pain and Vegeta cried in pain. Another swift steel kick from its stubby foot into the face: Vegeta was too stunned to block it. He was hurtled right towards Capsule Corp and crashed into the building. His head throbbing, Vegeta raised his hand to wipe the blood that trickled from his cut lip.

A sudden outcry: people were running in panic!

“Help!” they shrieked, “He's trapped!”

Havoc was coming…

People that had been working in the building were trapped under the rubble. Those who recovered from shock ran to help eachother… attempting and failing to aid their colleagues in dire need.

Vegeta could smell the ugly dust and dripping, slithering blood: a few people had been seriously injured. He should help, but his hands were too full. He painfully got to his feet and with one eye (the other one was swelling) looked in the direction of the Gobanian.

“Hah ha ha!” he blurted, green goo seeping in even larger quantities from his face, much like when you push toothpaste from its tube. Another evil plan was etched in his brain. Vegeta could hardly move…

“Oh my God, look out!” a man suddenly cried in terror. A large steel beam was being forced from the soil and suddenly jerked into the air. Because of the movement, a large chunk of the ruined ceiling dislodged and fell. A young woman was just below it. She slowly looked up in terror.

`Shit!' Vegeta fired a blast and it shattered in midair, `Do I have to do everything?!' he cursed. He watched as the couple grabbed one another and ran for it. The other people were still trying to help eachother.

“Hm hm hm…” the Gobanian smiled. The iron beam levitated on top of his head, his arms raised in control. “I am the puppeteer,” he explained, “And this is my puppet. The whole planet is my puppet.”

With full force the Gobanian threw the iron beam straight at Vegeta's gut.

And met him full on target.

Vegeta was pushed further into Capsule Corp, damaging more property and shattering windows. Light gleamed in his eyes and a chunk of thick glass sent a deep cut in his thigh.

The Gobanian stared at his work. It was beautiful how he destroyed things. Too bad Vegeta was strong against mind control. He could have made the Saiyan do so many beautiful things. He slowly lowered his hands, waited a moment.

The Saiyan was dead.

The Gobaninan lifted the iron beam through the rest of Capsule Corp, cutting through it and crushing it again and again. “HAH HAH AHHAA HA HA HA HA HA HA!” he cackled with glee, “Yes! I've done it! Vegeta's dead! VEGETA'S DEAD!!!”

Once he made sure he destroyed everything in Capsule Corp, the Gobanian returned the iron beam towards him and levitated it above his head. Pure madness in his eyes, he smiled wickedly at the sound of people screaming.

“Let's see… what next?” he thought evilly, and scanned the area. He spotted a group of people helping a young, bleeding man into an ambulance. The police had rushed to the scene too, the sirens whining through the streets. The Gobanian's smile widened.

`Krrr' came the static in the policeman's megaphone, “You are under arrest! We have the place completely surrounded! Raise your hands slowly and come quietly!”

“What, like this?” the Gobanian slowly raised his arms, the iron beam rising slightly.

“That's right! Now make your way to the vehicle slowly!” and he whispered to another officer beside him, “Get ready to grab him.”

“HA HA HAH HA HA HA!! SUCH A STUPID PLANET!”

The iron beam swooped everyone in sight right off their feet and crushed them against the roads and buildings. Police cars flew into nearby skyscrapers, exploding them on contact. The Gobanian cried in joy.

“You are all my puppets! Let's see… What should I make YOU do?!”

Just as the alien was about to grab a helpless woman and wailing child, a vicious, scarred and torn glove pierced through his heart and chest. His face torn in shock, he slowly looked down at the bloody hand.

“N…n…no… H…how coo…dd…”

“And I'm the scissors. And I've just cut your puppet's strings!” Vegeta sneered heatedly. Violently and painfully he yanked his hand out of the creature's body. He let the fowl thing fall to the earth.

It was dead.

He pulled his gloves off, disgusted by their scent and threw them away. He slowly looked at what the creature had done to his home and the people that had become critically hurt because of their little fight.

Now what?

The Earth wasn't brightening and the rain clouds grew ever darker. What the hell was happening?

Someone had been missing from the picture for a while, and quite conveniently, he made the first contact since the whole Pod incident.

“Oh, King Kai! What's up?” Goku grinned. Everyone else heard him too and listened intently. The Kai didn't normally speak to them, so this must have been very important indeed.

“Everyone! I'm afraid I've been a lousy Kai,” he began (there were no reply's in protest) “I was so into what chibi Trunks and Goten were saying that I neglected the rest of the Earth for a while. Pardon me… it was quite intriguing. But now I have grave news which may alter the course of things: Trunks and Tilo are fighting a man right now I believe to be Scar.”

“What?!” Chibi Trunks and Goten blurted, “Impossible,” Trunks continued, “There must be a mistake!”

“Well, What did he look like?!” Goten cried.

“Hmm. Well, there is a lot of static in the air right now, but the most striking features is his muffler and scar going down his lips.” Kai replied, “That's the guy right?”

“Woah, Kai your good!” Goten complimented, unaware of the situation they were in right now.

“Yes well, that and the man revealed his name as Scar.”

Chibi Goten and Trunks clenched their fists. They could feel the hatred and fear within them. The frustration in their minds boiled to the surface when Trunks yelled, “Gaah! How is this even possible?! Scar isn't supposed to appear until tomorrow at noon! And who the hell is Tilo?!”

Bulma had never felt more awkward in her life. The sentence that came from her mouth sounded so absurd even she felt a little ridiculous speaking them. How would they react when they actually saw each other, face to face? It was weird, really.

“Tilo is your son,” she said, and the feeling of those words sent a realisation in her mind, `I am phrasing things wrong these days!' “What I meant was; he's my grandson, Trunks' son from this timeline.”

Chibi Trunks raised an eyebrow.

“What I want to know is, why isn't there a Tilo in your timeline?” Goku asked seriously.

“You don't want to know, believe me,” Chibi Goten said, “It's a long story. I can't really remember much but I think Trunks made his girlfwend cwy!”

Kai shook his head. The other Kais had assembled next to him to find out what all the commotion was about. Mumbles ran through the ever growing crowd of the deceased.

“I'm ashamed of you Goku,” Kai suddenly said, “The power that those three are emitting is huge. Krillin is on his way there now and Trunks is on the verge of death: he's lost too much blood. Tilo…” Kai trailed off, “Tilo's not really visible right now.”

As Kai spoke those words a jolt of electricity zapped through the Saiyans bodies on the lookout.

“Woah!” all three men called, “Dad, why didn't we detect that?!”

Goku shook slightly. The excitement in him was building. True, they hadn't detected them, but that was because of the sheer distance they were fighting and the fact that, as King Kai put it, there was some static in the air. Vegeta wasn't there either, which was good, because if they needed it, they'd have to fuse.”

“Gohan, I've got a plan,” Goku quickly revealed and stood tall, “Ok everyone, I think we should go ahead like this: Gohan, Goten and I are going there now to help Krillin, Trunks and Tilo. Goten will bring Trunks, Krillin and Tilo here. Revive Trunks with a senzu bean and as soon as you do, begin training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Gohan and I will make sure Scar can never stand up again!” he looked at Bulma, “Bulma, I know that in your condition you're slightly, eh, unfit, but I need you and anyone else who can help to collect the dragon balls. If worst comes to worst, at least we have those. Dende and Mr. Popo,” he looked in their direction, “I don't know if Scar knows about the dragon balls but the two of you must stay safe.” They nodded.

“Gohan, Goten, grab hold, we don't have much time!” Goku called as he placed his fingers on his forehead. Within the next second they vanished: vanished into the eye of the storm….

“Gah!!” Trunks spat more blood. He gathered as much energy as he could so he could up heave Scar from his aching gut. Tilo watched in horror as his father tried to free himself. Tilo could barely heave himself from the ground… he was still too weak to move.

From nowhere a familiar cry rang in the air. Tilo couldn't believe it. What was he doing?!

“Krillin!” Tilo called. Was the man a fool?

Scar looked at the man heading straight for him and did a roundhouse kick in the man's face. Krillin was knocked out with one blow.

“Where was I?” he looked down at Trunks who stared at Krillin in disbelief. Scar raised his feet and dug into Trunks some more, issuing painful screams from the Saiyan.

With a final stabbing-kick to make sure Trunks wouldn't ever stand again, Scar leaped backwards and into the air. He looked at Trunks, the ki balls thundering with power in his hands.

He plummeted with them head-first towards Trunks.

Tilo watched from the ground. With effort, he rolled onto his shoulder and onto his back. He thrust his arms forward in Scar's direction. Scar was a metre away from Trunks.

“Take this! AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Scar froze. He stared at Trunks in shock. Trunks eyes looked back in disbelief. I'm still… alive?

“No way!” Trunks thought, “This is the binding technique that Bojack and his group used! When did Tilo learn it?”

The binding technique… He was lucky Mirai Trunks paid them a visit when he was twelve old. The man from the Android-devastated world came for the World's Martial Arts tournament and surprised everyone when he used the technique on Goku. Trunks was so impressed with his older version that he pestered the man the rest of the day to teach him the technique. Through a lot of effort Trunks had learnt the technique and was reminded that it was `Bojack's move: new and improved!' He also learnt a few other moves from the man and since then worked on combing Mirai Trunks' genius with his own. The Bojack technique however, does take a lot of ki and mental effort. Trunks could only hold the technique for 20 seconds the first time learnt it. What more his son?!

Not wasting his chance Trunks rapidly writhed like a madman until he was free from the ki-chains. He rapidly thrust the palms of his hands in all directions, as though trying to hit an invisible foe.

And as son as he started he stopped, stretched his arm, extended al his fingers as far apart as possible, and shouted.

“BURNING ATTACK!!!'

Scar was hurled upwards, the clothes and skin on his chest getting singed. He dropped onto the ground like a lifeless doll.

Trunks got out of his prison and stumbled over towards Tilo. His son gave him a weary smile and slowly fell into unconsciousness.

“Its all right son,” Trunks smiled reassuringly, “He's dead.”

“Who is?” said a deathly voice. Scar stood inches behind Trunks.

Trunks froze in absolute fear.

Impossible... he's dead! He has to be after that...

Scar grabbed hold of Trunks and mercilessly began to hit him in another fury of punches and kicks. The last one flung him into the distance at an incredible speed.

`Move!' Trunks screamed at himself; but there levitated Scar, waiting for him. He back-flipped and dealt a kick to Trunks' spine.

“AHHHHHH!” Trunks felt the pain killing him.

Scar began drilling Trunks into the ground. The anguishing screams from Trunks were deafening.

The butcher stopped for a second. He looked into the distance. For a second Scar thought he sensed an immensely huge power coming towards him. If it was, it was nothing by far he couldn't handle.

Smirking he grabbed his prey by the ankle, and lifted him out of the hole. Still holding onto Trunks' ankles, he ran towards a valley with rocks and sadistically battered him into every rock and boulder he could find. Then he saw the one he was looking for: a small, sharp one that could pierce a person instantly.

The numerous broken bones and gashing wounds left Trunks defenceless.

Scar tossed him towards the rock and then a sickening crunch was heard along with a scream of pain. Trunks lay still: he barely managed to shift himself to avoid instant death. He held the bloody jagged rock that had stabbed him with both hands to keep himself upright. It dripped with thick blood. Lightning rumbled in the heavens deafly.

CRAAACKKKK!!

“Give up you half breed idiot,” Scar said cruelly, the pale light from a flash of lightning lightening up his face. “You're already dead. You just don't know it.”

Scar rose to the air slowly and extended his palm.

“Let me show you one of my personal moves…” ki flitsed into place.

Mortuus Nox” (note: this means `dead of night')

A soundless pitch black beam shot towards the helpless Trunks.

`Oh well, I did my best, I hope it was enough…' Trunks thought morbidly and drifted his eyes closed, ready for death.

The beam was about to hit Trunks when Goku appeared right in front of it, defending the both of them from the beam.

Lowering his singed and bleeding arm, Goku spoke:

“YO! Watsup?” he said with a grin.

Goten and Gohan had flitsed into place as well. Gohan gasped when he saw Tilo and Trunks lying out-cold in the dirt and the pair of them rushed over to their friends, taking little notice of Scar. Goku gave Scar a glare before attending to Trunks.

“Hold on to me,” he instructed and Trunks groaned in pain as Goku slowly released him from the blood-drenched rock. Slowly they levitated to the ground. Goku said reassuringly, “Hold on… Goten will take you to the lookout. We'll save you Trunks!”

Trunks smiled knowingly. His shredded tie flapped in the wind. “What took you so long…” he managed to say.

Goku nodded and looked over his shoulder. Scar couldn't contain his hatred. His fists were clenched painfully as he could barely restrain himself from killing the Saiyans. Was this planet diseased? How many offspring did he say he had?!

Goten rushed to Trunks. “Hey buddy, I got you,” he whispered and carefully held onto Trunks. “Dad, I can't carry Krillin and Tilo too…”

“I know,” he looked over at Gohan as he lifted Krillin over his shoulder and went over to the young teenager. `Gohan,' he said telepathically, `you have to take them with you.'

“What?!” Gohan blurted, “No dad, I'm not leaving you with this guy!” he yelled.
Goku never took his eyes off Scar. The muffler flapped violently in the wind, his clothes slightly shredded. Beyond him Gohan held both Tilo and Krillin under his arms.

“I'm sorry son, but I'm not going to use instant transmission this time,”

“But Dad!”

“Just take them. I'll be fine. You'll find me here. Now go!”

Gohan stood still for a moment, not sure whether or not to argue. That look in Goku's eyes, the one he had when he looked at Cell or Majin Buu, it was when no one could reason with the man. He mumbled a `fine,' under his breath, cursing his father's selfishness. “But I'll be back before you can do any damage!”

Goku smiled and gave his son a thumbs-up.

Gohan nodded and together with Goten they flared Super Saiyan and rushed with amazing speed to the Lookout.

Scar watched as they escaped the storm. His face had become unreadable. “It's OK,” he said nonchalantly, “I'll get them anyway. No one is safe anymore.”

“We'll see about that,” Goku replied coolly and assumed a fighting stance. His blood was pumping and he couldn't contain his excitement.

“Prepare yourself for a real fight!” Goku announced. Both men disappeared out of sight and reappeared.

The battle began.
