Trunks stood in the shadows, peeking into his little sister's room with a feeling of disgust. Everything had changed with her birth, and knowing himself, Trunks did not adapt well to such a drastic change within his family. He almost hated her, but he couldn't. None of this was her fault-she was only four years old. But it was her existence which drove him to near insanity; the fact that she now cuddled in her father's lap while he rocked her to sleep.
Bitter jealousy twisted inside his stomach. How could Bura earn the love of a man that treated Trunks and everyone else like shit? What made her so goddamned special? Tears collected, threatening to fall down his face. He had always been at the receiving end of Vegeta's verbal abuse.
He watched his father stroke the aqua-colored hair with a gentleness he had never seen. Vegeta had never touched his son, other than the day he died in an attempt to destroy Buu. Even then it wasn't a real hug.
"Arrogant bastard," Trunks whispered, quietly, so that the pair inside the room could not hear. He dared to say that to his father's face, knowing that it meant certain death. He chuckled darkly-yes, he believed Vegeta would really murder him if he uttered such words.
A parent killing his own child… It wasn't a new concept. Over the years, Trunks grew to feel as if he were dying, painfully slow, by Vegeta's lack of compassion. An unhappy life was not worth living at all. Fortunately, Trunks found other reasons to continue on.
His best friend, Goten, seemed to love his own father to pieces, despite being gone until late in childhood. When he did reappear that one day at the tournament, the first thing he did was drop to his knee and embraced his new son. Love and warmth radiated from Son Goku, values that he desperately sought out for his entire life. That mutual bond gave Trunks hope-love really existed out there, not just in the movies.
But no such love that he could ever experience. He came to the conclusion that he was the `failed child' of the family, and now Vegeta was trying to start anew with Bura. Poor Trunks, there was no use to try to save him; just set him out on his own because the only thing Vegeta inadvertently taught him was how to survive.
He turned away from Bura's room and headed for his own, which curiously was the furthest away from the rest of his family members. His self esteem suffered-he was not supposed to be here. He was a mistake-born to a loveless family.
Well, no more would he cause such an eye sore for his father. Trunks opened his bedroom window and flew outside, away from the pain and negligence of his broken home at Capsule Corp.
