Chapter 4

Unrequited Love.

"Still pining to be alive again?" Illana asked, smiling. Her long hair blowing in the calm breeze. It was a nice day in Heaven, but then again, everyday was a nice day in Heaven!

"I don't know. I mean, I wish I were still alive, but I'm so happy here with my family." Tristan said, looking away from the small pool. She came here to look into the living world every now and then.

"I'm just glad I have my own body back!" Illana joked.

"I didn't ask you to get in mine anyway!" Tristan said, poking her.

"You two at it again, I see!" The two women turned around to see Tristan's father, Toshyo, walking past.

"She started it!" Tristan said.

"I did not!"

"Well, at least I have wings." Tristan said. Illana stuck her tongue out at her, then both burst out laughing. After their laughter died down, Tristan spoke again, looking back at the pool. "I miss him so much."

"Why don't you go down there?"

"He wouldn't be able to see me, and if he does, he'll be scared out of his mind."

"At least he's trying to bring you back. You're better off than me." Illana said, sitting down next to her.

"How so?"

"If you get wished back, you'll be with Trunks. But now that we are separated, I won't go back with you. And since he hasn't died yet, I still won't see Tadashi for a while. Even if he wanted to wish for Tadashi to come here, it would still take another year for that to happen. Consider yourself lucky." Illana said.

Maybe she's right. Maybe I am lucky that someone loves me that much. Tristan thought, still looking into the pool.

I pressed the button and released the capsule house. It was larger than I expected. It was two stories high, full kitchen, bathroom, a living room, but only two bedrooms. Of course Shay would get one, so that meant me and Goten had to fight over the other. We decided to set up camp in the middle of where the Dragonballs were located since they had scattered in a circle. It was easier than taking the capsule house everywhere. Once we were all settled in, we decided to split up and start looking for the Dragonballs. That way we would have two of them by the end of the night. I told Shay and Goten to go ahead, I knew I wasn't going to be good company. I just didn't feel like talking much. I told him to call me whenever they found a Dragonball.

I found the first Dragonball without too much of a problem. It had landed in a birds nest not too far from where we had camped out. I just had to wait for the giant eagle looking bird to leave its nest. It was the two-star Dragonball. Holding the shiny orange sphere in my hand gave me more hope than anything or anyone else. Since it was still daylight outside, I went to find another. This was turning out to be easier than I thought. We would have the Dragonballs by next week at this rate, just as long as all of them were this easy to find.

"You think he's gonna be okay? Shay asked Goten.

"Yeah. He should be. I'll bet he'll start perking up once we start finding more of the Dragonballs." They were walking through the woods looking around. It had been a few hours since they started.

"So, is Bra this girlfriend you were talking about?" Shay asked.

"Nani?"

"The one that was giving you a hard time about coming out here."

"Oh, no-no! She's just a friend!" He laughed nervously. "Why would you say that?"

"Well, let's just say that if her eyes were daggers, I'd still be stuck to the wall at Trunks' house right now." They both laughed.

"She does have a temper as bad as her father's sometimes. We talk, but we aren't together, not really." Goten said, looking at the ground.

"Do you like each other?"

"Well, to be honest, I like her and she acts like she likes me. But…" He trailed off

"But what?"

"She's Trunks' sister, and I don't want to upset Trunks by trying to make a move on her. Besides, I don't know if she really likes me or not."

"Trust me, she does. Anytime a girl would get jealous over a guy who isn't her man, it's because she likes him, even if just a little. Why do you think I thought you two were together? And I'm sure Trunks wouldn't mind you dating his sister. You're a good guy."

"I guess that makes sense." He said. They continued walking in silence for a while.

"Geez, we should have come across the Dragonball by now. Have you seen it?" Goten asked.

"Describe it again?"

"It's an orange ball, about the size of my hand, with dark orange stars on it." Goten looked at Shay, who had a guilty look on her face. "What?" He asked when Shay put her hand behind her head, smiling.

"Heh, heh! Silly me!" Shay reached in her backpack and pulled out the six-star Dragonball. "I guess I forgot what it looked like. I thought it was a gem or something!" Goten fell backward (in the classic anime style!).

"I'll just call Trunks." Goten got off the ground and reached for his cell phone. It wasn't still hooked on his pants where he put it. He checked his pockets and still couldn't find it. "Kami, Shay! Do you have my cell in that bag too?"

"Oh, this one?" She reached into her backpack again and pulled out the small, silver phone. "You dropped it back when we were taking a break! I just thought I would hold on to it for you since you almost lost it!" She said, handing it to him.

"I did? Thanks!"

He is so cute! Why didn't I notice before? Too bad he already has a girlfriend. Shay thought to herself. She watched him as he talked to Trunks on the phone, wondering why her breakup with Toshyo wasn't affecting her like she thought it would. Maybe our relationship was already dead before we split. It's no matter. I'm not looking back now. I have better things to do.

Goten hung up his phone and looked at Shay. "You ready to go back?"

She smiled. "Hai." Goten picked her up and flew back to their temporary home. Shay looked up at Goten's smiling face. If only he was single…
