Chapter 17

Pan glared at the lawyer "So you are saying that is we fight this thing Gina will lose?" Pan threw herself into the chair next to her husband. "I don't get it? Why is Gina even bothering to fight this?"

The lawyer shrugged "Grief makes people do stupid things."

Pan muttered under her breath "More like greed in this case."

Trunks looked over and Pan and nodded slightly. "Normally I would just let Gina buy it out at a ridiculously low rate and forget it. But this is not my holding we are talking about. This was left to Aiko by her Uncle Mark." He looked back at the lawyer "Even though my sister never married they guy, I knew where it was going. Bra is devastated and losing Global to Gina may be the thing that drives her over the edge. We are going to court." Closing the folder he sighed. "It's not going to be fun. I am not looking forward to being in America so much. No offence, I like it enough there. Still I would rather be with my wife and child."

"I am going with you." Pan added as Trunks turned to her in surprise. "I can help. I have background in business in America. This is my daughter's inheritance. She will not be losing it to a person like Gina Devero."

The lawyer stood up. "I think I will leave you know. I need to put a team together on this. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mark Devero was perfectly sane and capable when he wrote out the will. Gina Devero has never been actively interested in the company until now. I see no reason for a judge to substantiate her claim."

Trunks stood up and walked around the desk "Thank you for your time."

The man smiled and shook firmly "Not a problem Mr. Briefs."

As the lawyer left the room Trunks turned to Pan and smiled "So you really want to go to America with me and hash this thing out?"

Pan leaned back in her chair seductively. "Why not? Our parents can take of Aiko for a while. When this is done she will be the most powerful child on the face of the planet."

Trunks looked down at his wife. "Great exactly what she needs. More reasons to scream commands at us."

Pan laughed, "Commands. She can't even talk."

"As if that has stopped her from making her wants known." Trunks leaned over and kissed his wife.

Melody was having a different conversation on the other side of the earth. "How can you expect me to just go back to school? Mom, you are barely recovered fro the surgery. You can't contest this will. It makes no sense. Trunks Briefs is a very respected businessman. You left the company in Mark's hands for years and never worried about it."

"Mark was my son and he had no divided loyalties between companies. Trunks Briefs' first and foremost concern is Capsule. I will not have him draining Global to strengthen his own business." Gina was finally able to stand on her own since the surgery. Which in her mind had been a complete and total success. With Mark gone there was no longer the stigmatism of having a freak in the family.

Gina knew there were underlying circumstances that had to be deal with, but that would have to wait until she had taken care of Aiko Briefs. Aiko Briefs, Gina frowned, even the child's name was annoying. The price and the effort to find people equipped enough to deal with the baby were mind-boggling. There weren't many people out there with the stomach to murder the child. Her young age was surprisingly not the problem. Most of these killers had no care at all for those types of details. What bothered them were the child's family, World tournament fighters and powerful family business with seemingly endless flows of cash. Gina smiled at her own genius in tossing the lawsuit into the mix. With the child's father out of the picture it would be all the easier to get at her. She was snapped out of her thoughts by her daughters irrigated sigh. "You need to get out of here and back to you classes. You education is important. When Global is back in my control you will have lots of work ahead of you."

"Me?" Melody stopped and looked over at her mother.

"This situation has made me see I will not be around forever, Melody. You will have to learn to run the company on your own. It will assure me that you will be taken care of." Gina looked up at the confusion on her daughters face.

"Mom? I have no idea no idea how to run a multi billion dollar business." Melody shook her

"Don't be silly. You just have no idea about the security a company like Global can afford you. Even if you have no desire to run it yourself." Gina sat down gentle.

"Some on else run it?" Melody scoffed "Like Trunks Briefs?" Melody tossed in. She saw no difference between Mr. Briefs running the company and some hired stranger. But obviously Gina did, because of the seething look was cast Melody's way,

"Don't say that! Dear Lord there is a world of difference." Gina scowled at her daughter "You are going to have to grow up soon and stop living in this childish world of make believe. Not everyone is looking out for your best interests. You will have to gain some kind of control over your life."

"I am going to school to be a teacher. I know that the pay isn't the great in the world, but I love children and it is what I want to do." Melody did not want to relive the arguments they had when Melody had chosen her profession.

There is no real financial security there, dear. We have been over that." Gina shook her head

"I am not having this conversation with you. I am not you and I am not going to relive your life." Melody walked out of the room. Slamming the door she looked up at the ceiling. Some tines she got the feeling her mother was not all there.

Somewhere else entirely:

A dark haired woman ran into the room with a syringe in her hand. The two burly attendants held the struggling man down. He was strapped down to the bed, but the way he was fighting the restrains of his arms where going to break. He was still half drugged as he fought and brought his leg free. Kicking the man on his left and sending him across the room. The woman screamed in panic and dropped the syringe. To scared to get close. The man that was left was doing his best to hold bound man down as a doctor ran in and picked up the needle and rammed in cruelly into his victims flesh. In second the struggles subsided to faint twitches.

"Stupid." The doctor shook angrily. "I will have to find something new. That medication is wearing off to fast now." With that he left the room followed by the uninjured aid.

Clara pushed her loose hair back and sighed in relief. Turning she help the fallen man up "So Steve, who is this guy?"

Steve rubbed his shoulder when it had connected with the wall. "I am not sure. The bought him here a few days ago. Be careful though. He is mean as hell when he even gets a bit coherent." With a grimace Steve added, "I am going to have this shoulder checked out. He booted me pretty good."

Clara nodded and turned to look at the man on the bed. He was devilishly handsome, and oddly familiar to her. She felt like she had seen his face before somewhere. That was silly, she shook her head. Who could forget such amazing green eyes?
