It Will Happen: Another Bulma & Vegeta Get Together
Chapter Eighteen
Questions
After The Buu Saga ...
VEGETA! A proud Saiyan Prince, a great warrior and a fierce opponent was dead!
And as he sat in a dimension, of afterlife, in between good and bad none of those things mattered to him. Not his strength, not his race and not even his pride. And that's why, for only the second time in his entire life, he cried.
Oh, he still did not sob out allowed or snivel in pain, but the salty liquid that ran freely down his handsome cheeks was proof enough. He had lost!
Not a battle, not even his life, no those things didn't matter anymore for what he had lost meant far more to him than he had ever realized. Until he had looked at his son.
"Dad, wake up! Please dad wake up." Vegeta could still here Trunks' pleading voice as he lay badly beaten on the ground.
"Is he dead?" Kakarot's youngest son had asked.
"No he's not!" Trunks had yelled at Goten. The eight year old boy sounded as strong and proud as his father. But it was his son's next words that had given Vegeta the strength to get up.
"My mother told me that my dad used to be the Prince of every single Saiyan. He's the toughest guy in this world and there's no way he would just loose to some monster."
Yes, Bulma and Trunks, that's what he had lost! They had shown him unconditional love and faith. They were proud of him and his heritage. And he had never realized how much he meant to them until then, because he had only just realized how much they meant to him.
In that moment when he stood, bloodied and bruised, in a deserted land he had made his decision. He would not let his mate, his wife and his son suffer from evil. He would give his life to protect them. And he had!
He had not known that Bulma spoke such praise about him to their son or that his son held him on such a high pedestal. It was unbelievable even for someone as arrogant as him. For he had not been the best person before he met Bulma and he had not treated her as he should have during there time together until they had finally bonded.
But she never complained for as long as he held her in his arms each night she was content. For as long he was would his son, training or not, they were content! They understood him.
But due to his sinful past and sacrifice today he was stuck in an in between dimension. Neither good nor evil. But it was hell for him. All he had were his thoughts and his memories and a gut wrenching pain in his chest.
Pain for he would never see her beautiful face again, hear her soft laughter or touch her creamy skin. Pain for he would never feel pride when his son trained at such intense levels or looked at him with such admiration or when he simply called him father.
And that's why tears were falling from his coal black eyes. Although his classic smirk still played on his sensual lips for he knew, without a doubt, that he would sacrifice his life a million times if only for his loved ones.
"Trunks, Bulma ... I do this for you!"
"Vegeta? Are you ok?" Goku asked with concern, bringing Vegeta out from his reverie.
He shouldn't be replaying his afterlife experience in his head anymore, he had spent enough time in that dimension. Though it came to him now for he had a million doubts and questions running through his mind.
Goku looked at Vegeta who had pulled him away from one of Bulma's parties so they could talk and he knew exactly what Vegeta wanted to talk to him about.
Goku already had his answers ready because he could see the change in Vegeta. The man would always be proud and slightly arrogant and he would never openly show affection but what Goku truly cared about was that whatever trace of evil that lingered in Vegeta had been permanently erased.
And Vegeta had already paid his debts, in the most selfless ways imaginable. Goku could finally call him a friend. 'Not that I'll tell him that.' Goku thought jovially.
Yes, Bulma had been perfect for Vegeta and Trunks and her had finally thawed his heart, completely!
"Why did you not tell Bulma that I allowed Babidi to take over my body? Why didn't you tell her that I wanted to forget her and Trunks and be evil again? Why didn't you tell her that I purposely killed all those innocent people so I could fight you?" Vegeta asked the questions quickly just so he could get it out.
Goku sighed. "Vegeta you made up for it! Without you we would have never defeated Buu. Besides that, you were wished back because you were truly good and if that doesn't prove it then listen to this."
"Your heart never let you forget the ones who truly mattered to you and you sacrificed your life for Bulma and Trunks. That beyond anything else proved your love for them."
But before Vegeta could reply a broken sob caught their attention.
"Bulma!" Goku and Vegeta said at the same time.
"You allowed Babidi to take over you because you didn't want Trunks and I anymore. You still wanted to beat Goku." Bulma whispered in shock as pearly white tears ran down her cheeks.
"Bulma ..." Vegeta began and took a step towards her but she took a step away from him, her hand to her chest.
She shook her head. "No! I cried for you, wanted you, loved you and you wanted out! You didn't change. All this time you were still the same cruel monster hiding behind a facade, waiting to be brought out."
Vegeta growled. Off all the times, did the woman have to hear this now.
"Bulma ..." It was Goku who spoke but he too was cut off by her.
"No Goku! You should have told me. My best friend and you protect this evil secret from me. You let me mourn a man I should despise. How could you? How could you both?" And with that she ran off.
Vegeta was about to run after her when Goku stopped him. "Give her some time. She needs to calm down, there's no way you'll make her see reason when she is so irrational." Goku advised.
Vegeta knew he was right but he couldn't erase the distraught look on Bulma's face from his mind. He had wanted to tell her for a while now but he didn't know how to.
In his mind he knew he was afraid of this very reaction. She had been so happy when he had been revived, she and Trunks both, she had been so proud of how he had helped save the Earth and now she despised him.
He didn't know if he could handle her hatred for him!
"Come on. Let's go back, everyone will be wondering where we are." Goku said ruefully.
Vegeta nodded and went back to the Compound. What started as a happy day turned out to be a blasted nightmare for him. But what surprised him was Bulma. She was chatting happily with her friend as if she had not been crying seconds ago. She laughed at something Chi Chi said and then she replied, which even elicited a smile from Eighteen.
He saw her excuse herself and go over to one of the bots, no doubt telling them to clean up, and he saw his chance.
"Bulma." Vegeta said softly from behind her. He saw her shoulders visibly stiffen at his voice but she turned around to face him.
He felt like she had slapped him in the face. Her expression was cold and emotionless. He couldn't help but flinch. Minutes ago she was smiling and laughing and now she was looking at him like she couldn't stand to be in the same room as him.
'Maybe because she can't.' A nagging voice mocked in the back of his head. 'No!' I won't let that happen. The pain he felt from her icy demeanor and the prospect of loosing her again hurt more than any battle he had fought! Even battles that lost him his pride.
"Yes?" Even her voice sounded like it was covered in frost.
"We need to talk." Vegeta told her.
"After the party. Ok hun." And with that she walked off.
To anyone else Bulma's response would have sounded calm and rational, but he knew her too well to be fooled.
She was raging inside and yet she was cold and emotionless on the outside. He heard her words clearly and he especially heard how she had said the word 'hun'. She had never been this hurt before because she wasn't crying and she wasn't showing her anger. And he knew that she was determined on showing him how it felt to be heartless and emotionless.
She wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine, not knowing that he felt every ounce of pain from her behavior.
He would give her time, he knew she needed that and hopefully she would be able to get past his betrayal because he knew in his newly uncovered heart that he would never, ever hurt her again.
And he knew that tonight would definitely not be the night they spoke. He sighed heavily.
