"Sis! He's waking up!" a small voce whispered.

"Quick! Go fill a bowl up with cool water and bring it back here with a washcloth," a slightly deeper voice ordered. Tiny footsteps were heard running away. A cool hand rested on slightly warm skin.

"Mmm . . . " rumbled from deep within his throat as he slowly opened his eyes. Images were blurry as they swam out of proportion, causing him to close his eyes for a few passing seconds then opening them again.

A figure leaned over into his line of vision and though it was still blurry, he could tell it was a woman. When his vision cleared he began glancing at his surroundings and the woman looming over him.

A small room with two doors on either side. A nightstand beside him, a dark oak dresser across the room, a few pictures hanging on the brown-painted walls and a small lamp lit on the other nightstand on his other side.

The back of a small hand on his forehead directed his attention back to the other presence. Shoulder length deep-blue hair with many thin white stripes, eyes a few shades lighter than the hair, a small pointed nose, and full lips pulled tight in concentration.

"Nice of you to wake up," the woman muttered with a tiny smile, her eyes warm. She turned when she heard the tiny patter of a child's feet. His gaze was flicked to a small girl running in with a small bowl and blue cloth.

The girl wore a yellow, knee-length gown and her hair, as deep as the woman's, was messy and tangled. It was obvious she had been sleeping.

"Here ya go, sis!" she said as she handed the items to the older female. The child's light-blue eyes locked with his. They stared each other down in mutual curiosity. A grin then broke out on her young features as she dragged herself onto the bed he was lying on.

"Hello! I'm Kelly!" she stated proudly. "What's yours?"

"Kelly!" the other female scolded softly though her smile still remained. Her gaze locked with his as she said, "I apologize for my sister. She loves making friends even in the worst predicaments. In this case, bothering an injured man." The woman nudged the child with her elbow, winking.

Kelly tilted her chin up and said, "Just because you don't want to have friends doesn't mean I can't have any!" Her voice lowered so only he was supposed to hear, "That's my older sister, Kathryn. She's no fun."

"I heard that, little girl," Kathryn said. Kelly crossed her arms and turned her head away.

"Where . . . am I?" his voice came out as a croak because his throat was dry and needed some kind of moister. Kathryn heard this ordered Kelly to go get a glass of water.

"Deep in Forest Gemry. You've been out for two weeks straight now. We though you'd never wake up," she said as she squeezed water from the small cloth and dabbed it on his forehead then along his cheek. "You're running a slight fever so try not to do anything hasty. We don't need you hurting yourself any more than you already have."

Kelly soon came back with a glass of cool water. With the help of Kathryn, he was able to sit up and down the refreshing contents from the glass.

"Feel better, now?" Kelly spoke from his side. He nodded and swallowed hard, helping to clear out his throat so he could talk more clearly.

"So, what is your name?" Kathryn asked softly, setting the bowl aside, but kept dabbing his face for a few more seconds. He was quiet for a while before gazing at them both.

"Brolly."
