Chapter 11 - Life Goes On
Goku arrived back home, he had just visited Master Roshi and Krillin at Kame House and was exhausted. Chichi sat at the table with her father, he was reading she was writing a shopping list.
"How were they, dear?" she asked absentmindedly, clutching her stomach as she stood to check the stove. She was due any month now.
“They miss her, but other than that, they are fine.” He said, sitting down and adding things to the shopping list.
Chichi nodded and stirred a big pot on the stove. Goku finished writing his ideas for meals and leant back in his chair, he sensed Piccolo near but after he had aided them fight off Fureiza, there had been some truce so he wasn't too concerned.
“Poor Yamcha, how is he coping?” asked Chichi, picking up a pamphlet called `A name for your baby'. Goku gave the leaflet a worried look, and rested his chin on his hands.
“Well, I haven't seen him for awhile. He had to get a job to have enough money. I hope he is managing good enough, I'm sure he misses Bulma terribly” mused Goku, snatching the leaflet off Chichi and looking through it.
“Hey!” Chichi snapped, and tried to grab it back, but Goku turned away and held it just out of her reach. “I'm in delicate condition, you should be nicer to me! Goku! Son Goku? Are you listening to me?”
“This doesn't have my name in! It has Gordon and Gertrude, but no Goku!” cried Goku.
“Does it have Chichi?” asked Chichi, stopping a second from trying to grab the leaflet. She instead stood up and peered over Gokus' shoulder to read it.
The Ox-King laughed. “It shouldn't do, your mother and I chose that name because it was so unique in fact, I think Kaasan made it up”
Chichi smiled sadly to herself. “I promise myself I will be there for my child the way my Okaasan would have wanted but couldn't be. I'll be involved in every part of their life until, inevitably, they become a scholar! Imagine that! A scholar!”
“What about a martial artist? Imagine the pride we would feel in our child as they won the Takenchi Boudakai! How much they could help, we could all train as a family!” Goku enthused. Chichi tutted and shook her head. Goku looked at her, confused and apologetic.
“We have talked about this. No fighting. It only gave trouble you and your loved ones. Our child will grow up, unsullied by fighting and combat and death! And that is the end of the matter!” Chichi snapped, before turning back to the stove, and Goku and the Ox-King sat in silence, thinking about what she had said, or food.
