It was raining now; so cold and fierce that you could almost feel the chill inside the humble church. Trunks sat on a front pew, surrounded in a sea of black, his face hard as stone. He couldn't let anyone around him see what he felt inside. Those around him, dressed in the clothes of the mourning, wept and trembled. They prayed for the safe journey of the dearly departed.

"We're gathered here today, to celebrate the life of one loved by many; Son Goten. He was taken from us in his nineteenth year. Far too short a time to have lived."

Trunks closed his eyes for a moment, drowning out the rambling of the simple priest. He wouldn't let anyone see what he was feeling. If they knew, they would live in fear of him.

As they should.

~It was a Monday when my lover told me ~

~Never pay the Reaper with love only ~

~What could I say to you except I love you? ~

~And I'd give my life for yours ~

~I know we are, we are the lucky ones ~

~I know we are, we are the lucky ones ~

~I know we are, we are the lucky ones dear ~

Trunks wasn't sure how long he had been in love with Goten; possibly since they were children. He didn't know, nor did he care. All he knew was that he felt. There were so many strong, mixed up emotions inside of him. Every single smile, gesture, gentle touch, set his soul aflame; and he would have died happily in that inferno of passion. The longing he felt was sure to consume him. He knew that if he did not do something soon to let Goten know how he felt, he would die from the heart ache.

It was on a hot summer evening that he allowed his feelings to shine through. Goten was spending the night over at CC with Trunks, camping out in the back yard as they used to when they were children. As they lay upon the grass, Trunks mused about his companion; how young and full of life and enthusiasm he always was, his whole life ahead of him. They spent hours lying there, talking about useless trivial things Often times, they would slip into a comfortable silence, content just being in each other's presence.

"Chibi?"

"Ya?"

Trunks turned onto his side, propping himself up on one elbow so that he could look at his friend.

"Do you believe in love?"

Goten was silent for a moment, never tearing his gaze away from the stars as he thought on his answer.

"I don't really know, Trunks. It all seems kind of pointless to me. Why do you ask?"

Trunks now sat up, afraid to look into Goten's eyes when he heard what he was about to say.

"Because I am in love, Goten," he took a very deep, staggering breath, "I'm in love with you."

The stillness that followed cut Trunks to the very core, and he wouldn't have been surprised if Goten had left. After a moment, Trunks felt a warm hand against his bare back, sliding up and down his skin in a comforting way. He let out the breath he had been unconsciously holding, the first tremors of sobs starting to quake through his body. Soon, strong, welcoming arms circled around his shoulders, drawing him into a soothing embrace. Trunks turned in those arms, burying his face into Goten's neck.

"I've loved you for so long, Chibi." he sobbed, his body shaking with every attempted breath.

"Shhh.." Goten crooned, his fingers running through that soft lavender hair, trying his best to calm his weeping friend. Trunks clung tightly to the younger man, terrified of letting go.

"Please Goten... please..." he managed a hoarse whisper, scarcely recognizing his own voice. Goten let out a soft sigh, and lowered them both to the ground, cradling Trunks against his chest allowing the older man to cry.

After a long while, Trunks had managed to calm himself enough to look into Goten's eyes. He slowly lifted his head from that powerful chest, so very uncertain if he could handle what emotions might be expressed on his love's face. Never in his life had he been so afraid. He raised his head, eyes still closed.

"Do you really mean that, Trunks?" Goten whispered softly to him, slightly calloused fingertips caressing his cheek. Trunks swallowed, trying to find the words within himself, but nothing came. With great effort, he nodded his head. Before he knew what was happening, soft, warm lips were pressing against his own. Trunks let himself exhale his breath through his nose, his hand reaching up to cup Goten's cheek, his own thumb caressing his love's cheek. He had wanted this for so long. So very, very long.

~The first time we made love I wasn't sober ~

~And you told me you'd love me over and over ~

~How could I ever love another ~

~And I miss you every day ~

The kiss became feverish, tongues dueling for dominance as hands absently touched and fondled exposed skin. Trunks panted heavily, having broken the kiss to lean his forehead against Goten's, still not opening his eyes.

"Chibi... I.." His words were cut short when Goten kissed him again, a whining moan coming from Trunks. He wrapped his arms around Goten's shoulders, drawing him closer, needing the contact more than anything he had ever known. Goten pulled away far too soon for him.

"Where-" He was silenced again when a third, sweeter kiss met his mouth.

"Let's go into the tent." Goten whispered into Trunks' ear, his breath hot and heavy against his neck. Trunks nodded, his heart beating faster and faster at the implied invitation. He allowed Goten to take his hand, pulling him into the two man tent which lay no more than 3 feet away from them. The zippered doorway was soon shut, blocking out all light. They were alone in the dark, the only awareness being the smell of each other.

Trunks reached out for Goten, pulling him into another tender meeting of lips as he carefully lowered him to the ground. Goten relaxed under the weight of his friend, leaning his head back to allow access as Trunks delicately kissed his way down the strong jaw line to his ear lobe, taking that bit of flesh between his teeth to suckle on it like a new born kitten.

Reaching between their bodies, Trunks found his way beneath Goten's pajama pants to grasp his member, finding it unresponsive. He lifted up to finally look at Goten.

"Chibi? What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I'm just really tired. Don't stop..."

Trunks would have protested, but Goten had matched his idea and had grasped his stiff erection with both hands, fondling him in a merciless way. Trunks shut his eyes tight as his teeth ground together in a vain attempt to silence the pleasurable whine that echoed from his throat. He knew that Chibi would be good at this. He leaned down again, capturing his true love with another fiery kiss, pushing down his pajama pants to give Goten a better angle to work with. He absently ground his hips into Goten's, pushing his stiff cock back and forth through his cupped hand.

"Chibi..... I ... I need you." Trunks managed to gasp out, already feeling his climax building. Goten stopped his ministrations to reach over to his back pack, pulling from it a small bottle of hand lotion. He took Trunks' hand, squeezing a generous amount in his palm, then guided that hand to his erection. Trunks smiled down at his lover. He was so brilliant.

Trunks stroked himself for a moment, then reached down to Goten's tight entrance, swirling his fingertips around the outside, teasing him, making him writhe. Slowly he pushed his middle finger in, being careful not to hurt his Chibi as he loosened that entrance. Pulling away, he gripped his member once more, guiding the head to that sweet orifice. He paused momentarily to look down into Goten's face, waiting the approval.

Goten closed his eyes tight.

"Do it, Trunks."

It was pure bliss. The heat around Trunks' cock was something so intense, so REAL. He buried his face in the crook of Goten's neck as he slid himself in, then out of his lover, his breathing broken and erratic. Goten matched Trunks' thrusts, fingernails digging into his back as he growled and panted along with him. Trunks moved faster within the burning flesh, placing unpredictable kisses along his throat and shoulder. In one aching cry, Trunks found his release, spilling his seed deep within his love, his body shaking and trembling. They were both unable to speak; only feel.

~Remember the time we made love in the roses?~

~And you took my picture in all sorts of poses~

~How could I ever get over you?~

~And I'd give my life for yours~

"Would you all please bow your heads in prayer."

Trunks lowered his head, his eyes still closed as he mumbled the verse without feeling.

"Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses. As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen."

The many people stood now, going to move into a line as they walked past the open casket, taking one last look at he who was their friend and family. Goku stood before his son, his eyes dead and detached as he held an arm around his hysterical wife. They both looked so very, very sad. As Trunks made his way before the casket, he almost smiled when he noticed that the morticians did a very good job of hiding the rope burns around his Chibi's neck. He reached down, brushing the backs of his fingers against that cold cheek. He was so very pale.

Trunks was the one who had found him, that ever dreadful day. It had been a week since he had confessed his undying love. A week since he had touched Goten. Since he had been able to look into his eyes. Since he had heard his voice. Goku and Chichi weren't home that day. He didn't know where they went. He had walked into the house without knocking, as he usually did, since he was basically family anyway. Immediately, the smell of death assaulted his senses, and in a blind panic he ran to Goten's room, to find him dangling from the ceiling fan, a thick rope around his neck. The once beautiful face was covered in deep scratches from his struggles, his wide dead eyes had exploded into a sea of red when the capillaries burst. Drying foam was clinging to his chin and lips. Beneath him was a kitchen chair that he had kicked away. Trunks turned quickly to empty his stomach on the carpet, unable to stand the sight for another second.

When he finally composed himself enough, he had burned the rope in half, his love's immobile form dropping into his arms. He fell on the bed, cradling the cold, rigid body in his arms. Long moments passed as he rocked back and forth, holding his dead lover, weeping harder than he ever had before. Each powerful sob hurt so terribly much. When his sobbing had ceased, his eyes swept around the room, searching for anything that might tell him why Goten had felt the need to end his life. His gaze settled on a small sheet of yellow paper sitting on the desk on the far side of the room. Placing Goten's body on the bed, Trunks stumbled over to the desk to read the quickly scribbled note.

"Please don't hate me for what I did. I couldn't live with this guilt, but I'm at peace now. We won't hurt each other anymore."

In a rush of enlightenment, Trunks finally understood. The lack of words. The failed arousal of his friend. The detachment afterwards. Goten had felt sorry for him. It was pure pity that made Goten allow Trunks to have him. He never wanted this. He never wanted the contact. He never wanted love. He never wanted Trunks.

~ In each and every single way ~

The rain poured down on the last few mourners as they lowered the casket into the ground. Trunks blinked through the blinding rain, his hair clinging to his face and turning a darker shade of purple with the heavy water. He squatted down, his fingertips running along the smooth lines of the coffin as it slipped away from him.

"I'll miss you Chibi. Please know that, wherever you end up."

He turned, heading for his car, wondering who would find HIM.
