Chapter 1 part a

Solda'en'tar'a

"So, then we," Leeli flipped the channel as Leela droned on about her date with Lotanks. Love her sister as she did, Leeli still couldn't stand the purple and black haired pansy boy. But Leela liked him, and in situations like this that was all that mattered. As her sister continued with the story of the date to Disneyland Leeli finally found a channel that pleased her, an infomercial about raisins.

"...and at the beach we were watching the sunset and Lotanks commented on what a beautiful sunset it was and how the reds seemed to reflect off the water and looked like a rose or something," Leela continued and Leeli winced. She let out a small sigh as she remembered her own story of the beach, in her own dimension, with her own boys.

//Trunks tackled Leeli and the two went rolling in the sand, finally coming to a stop with Trunks sitting on Leeli's back. "I can't believe you put sand down my shorts," Trunks tried to yell, but was too busy laughing to put any real force behind it.

"Well, you needed something down there," Leeli smirked, trying to struggle out from under the seventeen year old boy, "I mean, as I keep tell you, super-saiyin, you are not."

"Take that back," Trunks said, his voice almost a giggle. "Goten, gimme a hand here!"

"No, help me!" Leeli laughed as Trunks tickled her.

Goten walked up behind them and raised an eyebrow. "I think I should be getting jealous here," he said, looking out at the ocean. "Hey, check out that sunset. Wow, the red is reflecting off the water in a really neat pattern."

"Kinda like a flower," Trunks said, finally letting Leeli up.

"Yeah," Leeli nodded, brushing the sand off as she stood up. The three watched the sun go down, casting its rainbow of light across the sea, like an aurora. It was a wonderful moment.

"The sunset it nice," Trunks said, breaking the spell, "but I think the real point here is that you should help me put sand down Leeli's suit."

"You bring up a good point," Goten nodded, smirking evilly as Leeli took a head start running screaming and giggling down the beach.
//

"Leeli? Leeli. Leeli!"

Leeli jumped to attention as Leela shook her. "You okay?" Leela asked, looking concerned. "You look a little pale and kinda sad."

"I'm okay," Leeli replied, checking her cheeks for tears as she mentally reminded herself those days were gone and wouldn't be coming back. Not while she was in this dimension. Besides, Goten would never understand the Majin thing. Sometimes she didn't even understand it.

"Let's go get something to eat," she said, getting up from the couch and waving for her sister to follow.

"It's like a PTSA meeting, only less crappy."

Mameko glared out of the corner of her eye at Kristel who shrugged under the glare as she took at seat across from Leeli who hid a smirk behind her hand. Next to her Leela cooed at pictures of Muzai's children.

"They're growing so fast," Leela said, taking the picture of Michelle and showing it to Leeli. "Someday I hope Lotanks and I have cute children like Muzai's."

Leeli blinked, remembering the baby pictures, and kept her own council on the matter. "Uh huh," she said simply, wondering if maybe Lotanks should have a little accident. "Where's Tsuko?" she asked, changing the subject as Leela handed the picture back to Muzai.

"Damn sun," the woman in question grumbled, setting her umbrella by the door as she entered the room. "It was supposed to be cloudy today with only twelve hours and nine minutes of sunlight. I'll have you all know I counted twelve hours and eleven minutes of sunlight and no bloody clouds!"

"Could be worse. It could have been twenty-four hours of sunlight with no clouds," Leeli shrugged as Tsuko jumped up on the table to sit

"That," Tsuko smirked, "would suck."

"Ladies," a stern voice said, catching all of their attention. "If I'm not interrupting your chit chat, perhaps we can start the meeting. Unless someone objects." The way Koshi cocked her eyebrow didn't leave room for objections. As everyone began to shift slightly uncomfortable she continued. "Alright then. Is everyone here?"

"Looks like it," Ka said.

"Fine," Koshi nodded. "Now, Kristel asked that this emergency meeting be called so I will let her speak."

Kristel stood up, her dark hair swinging as she walked to stand where everyone could see her. "Today marks the beginning of the Solda'en'tar'a…" she began.

"The what?" Muzai blinked, completely confused.

Kristel let out an annoyed sighed. "It's a collection of solar flares that arc extremely close to earth and cause mild disturbances in the atmosphere, that are mostly unstudied since normal people do not have to technology to analyze them." She looked at Muzai again, "now, if I may continue."

"Excuse me for breathing," Muzai mumbled, leaning back in the couch and crossing her arms.

"Anyway, the Solda'en'tar'a only occurs every five years," Kristel said and Leeli's ears visibly perked up, "I was prepared to study this occurrence last time with my Solenstra5 but, unfortunately, an incident occurred," Kristel glared at Leela out of the corner of her eye, "and the Solenstra5 was destroyed."

"I broke my arm," Leela yelled, "it's not like I intended to fall out of a dimensional portal and bust your machine."

"We can get a senzu for your arm, but there were no senzu's for my Solenstra5, now where there?" Kristel said, holding a hand to cut Leela off. "In conclusion, I have built the Solenstra6 and am preparing to study this occurrence at length. That is all." With that Kristel sat down, leaving the majority of the majins more confused than before.

"With that said," Koshi coughed, standing again. "We should talk about the sortie on the northern border. It should be a simple one person attack from above, maybe taking out a mountain or two, to show that we are serious and if they do not respond correctly we'll take another run at them in a week."

"Haven't we given them enough chances?" Mameko snorted. "I say we just clobber the little bastards."

"Second that," Ka said, raising a hand.

"Third that," Muzai said, raising her hand as well.

"Actually, I'm with Koshi on this," Tsuko said, raising a leg instead. "Though, for obvious reasons, I ain't flying the mission."

"They both seem like such good ideas," Leela said, looking back and forth between Koshi and Mameko, "I'm down with whatever you all decide."

"I don't care as long as it doesn't interfere with my research," Kristel said, waving her hand dismissively.

Koshi looked over at Leeli who had remained strangely quiet. "What do you think Leeli?" she asked.

Leeli jumped, looking around as if she'd forgotten where she was. "Huh? What?" she said, looking up at Koshi. "Oh, I think you're right. We should get pretzels." Everyone looked at her. "We weren't talking about pretzels, were we?"

"No," Koshi said simply. "Do you think we should perform the sortie as planned or, as Mameko has suggested, clobber them?"

Leeli blinked. "Go with the sortie," she said numbly, as she faded back into her spaced out state.

Koshi raised an eyebrow but said nothing. "Alright. We fly the attack as planned, but if they don't respond in three days, we clobber the little bastards."

"Sounds good," Mameko nodded. "So, who's flying the mission?"

"Volunteers?" Koshi asked, her eyes scanning the assembled majins.

"I haven't done any damage in a while," Mameko said, standing up. "I'll do it."

Koshi nodded. "Remember. We're not destroying them. Yet." She looked around at her warriors. "Is there any other business to discuss?" A mummer of no went though the assembled women and Koshi sighed. "Then the meeting is adjourned."

Muzai sighed. "Damn, I need to go get the kids from daycare."

"Why not have Trunks do that?" Ka asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Because that would make him seem like a pansy-boy," Tsuko murmured, giving Muzai a smile and waving when the cyborg glared at her. "Sorry, but kids don't help anyone's macho image."

"It's because he has work," Muzai informed her. "I'm sure he would love to pick up his children at daycare."

"I have to go," Leeli said suddenly, jumping from her seat and quickly walking out the door without another word to anyone.

Tsuko blinked at the open door. "Uh, that was weird."

Mameko shrugged, "maybe it's that special time in a young girls life."

Tsuko laughed. "Don't have that problem myself." Leela smirked and Koshi simply stared at the open door, her eyes narrowing.

Leeli crossed her arms across her chest as she flew. She wasn't really sure where she was going, but she needed some time alone. What Kristel had said had made her curious. If the solar flares occurred every five years, and the last set had happened when Leela appeared, that would mean that ten years ago the flares would have happened as well, the same time she appeared. "I wonder if it's just a coincidence," she mumbled to herself as she passed though a cloud and dangerously close to an airliner. "It seems too logical to be one, but… still… I've never been that lucky…"

Wham.

"Damn," Leeli yelled, rubbing her arm and looking at what she had flown into. The long roman style column that stretched from earth far into the sky stood there mocking her with its presence. "Okay, note to self. Pay at least some attention when you're flying around," she mumbled as the feeling began coming back to her arm. She looked over her shoulder and all around, letting out a small sigh when she realized no one had seen her.

"Hmmm," she pondered looking up at the platform that she couldn't quite see. "Maybe Dende has an answer." Correcting her flight path she shot up in the air, waving at Korin and Yajarobe as she passed. In a matter of seconds she arced up over the main platform of the Lookout.

Mr. Popo jumped upon seeing her. "Hello, Miss Leeli," he said politely, but she noticed the way he backed away as she approached.

"Can I speak with Dende?" she asked, deciding to let the little guy off easy for once. She could still remember the time Mameko roughed him up. That had been a less than pleasant experience. Of course, they had needed use of the Room of Time and Space; still, Leeli couldn't help but feel a little bad.

"He is in meditation," Popo said and Leeli bit her lip.

She knew he was lying. Dende was the Kami of earth in this dimension and as such he didn't have time for such frivolities as meditation. Simply taking time off to attend the world martial arts tournament was a big faux pas. "I know he's here Mr. Popo," Leeli said slowly, weighing her words, "and I know he isn't meditating. If he doesn't want to speak to me just say so."

Mr. Popo opened his mouth to speak and then shut it, physically bracing his body as if expecting a blow. Leeli sighed and turned to leave.

"What may I do for you, Leeli?" Dende's voice said from behind. She turned as the namekian walked out of the temple. "It is very surprising you would visit without the rest of your friends." Dende gave a hard, almost accusatory, look at the majin M on her forehead.

"I was just curious about these solar flares that I heard about," Leeli shrugged, trying to be nonchalant and knowing that Dende was not buying it.

"Ah, yes, the Solda'en'tar'a," Dende nodded, not calling her on it. "They occur every five years and for the most part go unnoticed. Though they do create spectacular aurora in the northern cites. Also, they tend to signal the opening of several unstable dimensional portals." He said nothing for a moment, then added: "Including the portal to your dimension."

Leeli shrugged and looked away, trying to hide the emotions building up inside. Her mind ran over the information. A chance to go home. Her heart soared at the very thought, unfortunately her brain caught up, reminding her she had been gone ten years. No matter how faithful Goten was, by now he was surely married with children. A knot formed in her stomach and she almost felt physically ill.

"From what I know of the Solda'en'tar'a and its effect," Dende said, breaking her from her thoughts, "the portal to your home will open at ten p.m. Sirin time today at about the same location you first appeared. I do not know how long it will stay open."

Leeli forced a smile. "Not.. not that it really matters to me," she said, walking backwards to the edge of the Lookout. "I was just asking for the sake of science as Kristel always says. Thanks for the thought though." With that she stepped off the edge and plunged back toward earth.

Dende said nothing as he walked to the edge of the Lookout and looked down to watch matters unfold as they would. Behind him Mr. Popo let out a sigh of relief.

"Home," Leeli mumbled numbly, opening the door to her apartment. She felt herself shut the door and lock it. She felt herself walk across the floor and flip on the TV. Still, it was a complete shock to the senses when she sat down on her couch. "Home," she repeated, putting her face in her hands and ignoring the television and its infomercials.

It had been so long since she had given up any hope of returning to her dimension that she didn't know what to do. She knew she had to kill the hope building inside her. Kill those thoughts of returning to Goten and everything else she'd left behind. "Because those things aren't there anymore," she mumbled to herself, wrapping her arms around her stomach and leaning forward. "I wish they were…" she said, almost feeling the urge to cry as she remembered the day she left...
