Chapter 3 part c

Yesterday

"Looks like trouble in paradise," Mamako said as the majins watched Goten fly away from the house. Koshi's eyes narrowed at the unprecedented flair of power Goten emitted, but it was gone almost as soon as it had flared up.

"What do you suppose happened?" Muzai asked as she watched the man's quickly disappearing form.

"Either Leeli told him about us or something else," Ka guessed with a shrug as she juggled Tsuko's weight in her arms.

"I dunno," Tsuko said, reaching up and grabbing hold of Ka's shoulder to steady herself, "that doesn't really seem like Leeli's style. Y'know, to tell him and let him fly off. I bet she wouldn't tell him and he got his feelings all hurted," she said, sticking out her lower lip mockingly.

"That does seem probable," Kristel agreed with a nod, raising an eyebrow as Tsuko threw a leg around Ka to keep from slipping out of the woman's grip.

Koshi thought about it as she looked towards the house with the fence Mameko so hated. Tsuko was right. It was hardly like Leeli to just blurt of vital information, and, even if she had, to let someone fly off without talking about it.

"Tsuko, Ka," Koshi shouted and the two women snapped to attention as best they could, considering the position they were in. "I want you two to go to the house as planned. If she has indeed broken the news to her family and is ready to leave back to our dimension simply go back to our rendezvous point. If not, continue with the plan as we talked about."

"Roger, boss lady-sama," Tsuko saluted, glad she was out of Koshi's reach.

"Yes, Koshi-sama," Ka said with a nod as she flew off.

Mameko watched the women fly toward the house before turning to Koshi. "What's your plan?" she asked expectantly.

"If Leeli hasn't broken the news to him," Koshi said turning towards the direction Goten had flown off, "then perhaps we can be of service."

---

Goten couldn't remember the last time he felt the way he did.

It wasn't quite anger or rage, but it wasn't sadness. He felt… upset, he finally decided as he reached a clearing in the woods that he often came to. Setting down on the grassy field he let out a sigh. He wasn't exactly sure why Leeli had yelled at him. He probably deserved it, he decided, as he walked toward a large boulder. Maybe the way he phrased what he said had been wrong.

The boulder exploded into small fragments before Goten even realized he'd hit it. "Never was good with words," he mumbled, stepping back from the dust-cloud that had formed. "I'm sure it's no where near as bad as she thinks it is," he said to himself as he began to punch the air in rapid succession.

His mind raced as he jumped off the ground and began kicking as well. The women did feel like Kull, he was sure of that. It wasn't just his paranoia talking there; they really did give off the same aura. But why would Leeli feel that way?

He sighed. It was strange, very strange.

So wound up in his own thoughts was he, he didn't notice the four approaching powers.

---

Trunks wasn't sure what exactly was going on other than the facts: Goten had flown off in a huff, Leeli was sitting almost catatonic in the living room, the children were being insane, and the doorbell was ringing.

Disentangling himself from the Kim and Chris who were trying to play London bridges falling down with his legs and stepping over Billy who was reading in the middle of the hallway he stumbled forward to open the front door, praying it was the pizzaman. He wasn't sure how much more of Elijah's complaining that, 'good dad would have had dinner ready by now,' he could take.

"Hello stupid purple haired man," Tsuko smiled, baring her teeth. "Can Leeli come out to play?"

Trunks' eyes narrowed. "Hello, overbite-woman," he replied, wondering how much yelling would ensue if he slammed the door right now. He tipped his head to the side slightly. Goten was right. They did feel a bit like Kull. Sighing in resignation Trunks stepped out of the way. There was no reason he could keep them out of the house. They were Leeli's friends afterall. And if they were like Kull then shutting the door in their faces would only make the situation bad, and there were children to think of. Besides, maybe they could snap Leeli out of the funk she was in. "She's in the living room."

---

"Hello Goten."

Goten jerked around. He'd been so lost in thought he hadn't noticed anyone approaching. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the woman who had spoken. "Hello," he replied cordially, "Koshi, right?"

"I'm glad you remembered," Koshi almost smiled as she set down on the ground, the rest of the majins right behind her. "We couldn't help be notice that you were flying away from your house and thought we'd make sure everything was alright."

Goten blinked for a moment. "Of course, why wouldn't everything be alright?" he asked. Sure, he and Leeli had a brief confrontation, but that didn't mean things weren't alright… did it?

Koshi made a motion with her shoulders that Goten could only guess was supposed to be a shrug, the gesture looked a bit forced. "Oh, I don't know," Koshi said, taking a step forward. Goten felt the urge to leap backwards, but restrained himself as the woman continued talking in a conversational tone. "Just wondering if Leeli had gotten around to talking about our relationship in the other dimension."

Behind her the majins smirked.

---

Leeli looked up as Tsuko and Ka entered the living room. She blinked a few times before deciding they really were there and not a figment of her imagination. "Hello," she said after a moment as they sat down on the couch across from her.

"Hey Leeli," Tsuko smiled and Ka simply waved. "You doing okay?"

"Could be better," Leeli said, looking away. In the background the doorbell rang.

"What happened?" Tsuko asked, "did that bastard Goten do something mean?"

"Goten's not a bastard," Leeli said defensively, then trailed off, "Trunks is."

"Oh, your parents weren't married either, Leeli," Trunks said as he walked through carrying about twelve boxes of pizza and left again.

"Not the kind of bastard I meant you bastard!" Tsuko screamed after him, before turning back to Leeli. "You wanna come back now?"

"Huh?" Leeli looked up. "No," she said, but it was easy for Tsuko and Ka to see the uncertainty on her face. "I need to tell them what I did…" she trailed off, more talking to herself than the other two women.

"Come on," Ka said, tipping her head to the side and trying her best to look sympathetic. "Do you really think people like this are going to understand?"

"Really, Leeli," Tsuko nodded in agreement. "I mean, they're so … nice. They're sure to be way too judgmental about your past life. And I can see this is hurting you. Why not just come back and spare everyone the pain?"

---

"No," Goten said, eyeing the majins and wondering what was so funny. Somehow he got the feeling he wasn't going to like it. "She… wasn't ready to tell me yet."

"Ah," Koshi said with a nod, "that's a shame. I'd have thought she'd like telling you she joined a little organization set on dominating the world."

"Whoops," Mameko smirked as her eyes glared holes into Goten, "I don't think you were supposed to say that, Koshi-sama."

Goten looked pale.

"Silly me, making such a slip up," Koshi said her tone calm and unapologetic as she looked at Goten. "I'm sure Leeli wanted to tell you about that oh so much."

"She wouldn't do that," Goten said quietly.

"Tell you?" Muzai asked.

"No," Goten snapped, feeling rage begin to well up in the pit of his stomach. "She wouldn't try to take over the world."

"Of course she would," Koshi said with a smile, "you know, destroy a village or mountain here and there. It's fun to reek havoc and chaos among the masses."

---

Tsuko saw the look in Leeli's eyes. It was a defensive argument brewing, but the common sense of what they were saying was defeating the argument. A small smile twitched on Tsuko's face. In a few minutes they might have their Leeli back.

"Whee!"

Tsuko and Ka jumped at the sound as two little boys ran out from the kitchen, dropping pizza in their wake and taking a fast turn to go up the stairs. One was yelling something about wanting his book back while the other just seemed to be chanting book, book, book over and over again.

"Leeli! I'm having a little emergency in the kitchen with the blender," Trunks yelled from in the kitchen, "can you deal with Chris and Billy?"

Leeli blinked at the kitchen door, then at the trail of pizza. "Yeah," she yelled back, jumping up from the loveseat and running up the stairs.

"Dammit," Ka cursed as they watched Leeli leave. "We almost had her back."

"You saw it too?" Tsuko asked, glaring in the kitchen's direction. If only that bastard had kept the children under control and in the kitchen.

A little girl bounded out of the kitchen. She cocked her head to the side as she caught sight of Ka and Tsuko and then smiled. "HI!" she yelled, running over. "My name's Kim. Who are you?" she asked as she bounced up and down in front of Tsuko.

"My name's Tsuko," she answered with a smile. Cute kid. Obviously not one of the purple-haired jackass's. "That's Ka," she said, gesturing toward the woman still watching the stairs for Leeli.

"Hi!" Kim said again. "Uncie Tunk is having problems with the thingy that goes 'whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' and Elijah's being mean to him," Kim said, sticking out her lower lip, "they always do that. So I came to find Mama!"

Tsuko blinked. "Who's Mama?" she asked as Leeli came back down the stairs.

"Mama!" Kim yelled as she ran over and latched onto Leeli's legs.

---

"That's not true!" Goten growled, wishing his mind would stop reminding him that Leeli did feel like Kull had. "Leeli would never hurt people for fun!"

"We had her for ten years," Kristel said in the background, "you've only had her back for almost four. Who do you really think knows her better?"

"I'm her husband," Goten yelled.

"And I'm her empress," Koshi said coolly, "why do you think she calls me Koshi-sama?"

Goten opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He didn't know what to say. He just wanted these women to stop talking. He wanted Leeli tell him what was going on. He wanted Leeli to tell him the truth. That these were lies. That they were all lies. They had to be.

"You should have seen her face when she was destroying those villages," Mameko said with a small laugh. "It just lit up. I don't think she's ever been happier."

There was an audible snap and it took Goten a moment to realize that it wasn't in his head. It was Mameko's head snapping as she hit the ground.

---

"Mama?" Ka said raising an eyebrow as Tsuko looked on speechlessly as Leeli lifted Kim into her arms. "You have a kid?"

"Uh, yeah," Leeli nodded. "This is Kim."

"Hi!" Kim waved before latching her little arms around Leeli's neck.

Tsuko and Ka exchanged glances. This was a new and interesting twist that they needed to report to Koshi. Their leader would definitely find this interesting, and it was sure to change her strategy.

"Guess I was right," Ka said under her breath and Tsuko glared.

"Did anyone feel that?" Trunks said, walking into the room covered with whatever he'd been trying to blend and looking mildly concerned. Elijah followed making mocking gestures that Trunks was either not noticing or ignoring.

"What?" Tsuko sneered, "the level of intelligence in the room drop as soon as you came in?"

Elijah smirked.

"No," Trunks said distantly, not even acknowledging Tsuko's jibe. "I could have sworn I just felt Goten's ki flare up."

"He was going out to train," Leeli said, averting her eyes and hugging Kim tighter.

"Yeah, but this felt… angry…" Trunks said distantly as everyone looked at him.

"Good dad doesn't get angry," Elijah scoffed, crossing his arms and looking at his father as if he was a moron. But there was also a spark of concern that Trunks was right in the boy's eyes.

Tsuko and Ka exchanged glances again.

---

Mameko jumped off the ground and made a move to lunge at Goten. There was no way she was going to let such a powerless wimp get away with punching her. But before she could Koshi held out a restraining hand and Kristel and Muzai had latched onto her arms to hold her back. Mameko growled and glared at Goten, shaking Kristel and Muzai off. She stood tall and wiped the trickle of blood away from the corner of her mouth. "Guess there's some saiya-jin in you after all," she sneered.

Goten said nothing. He seemed far to surprised that he'd thrown a punch to do anything other than back away in shock.

"Why so upset?" Koshi asked, letting her hand down when she was sure Mameko wasn't going to move to attack Goten. "I mean, if Leeli wouldn't do such things, why are you getting so upset?"

Goten opened his mouth and let out a strangled sound before shutting it again. He took a deep breath and tried again. "… it's not true…" he managed to get out this time, and with that he jumped into the sky, streaking back home.

Koshi crossed her arms and watched the man fly off as Mameko cursed in annoyance, kicking the ground. A small smile crossed Koshi's face. This was proving to be interesting.

---

"Where are you going?" Leeli asked as Tsuko and Ka got off the couch and began walking toward the door. Leeli gave them a look that was almost pitiful and Tsuko couldn't help but wonder if it was a good idea to get Leeli to come back with them.

"We need to tell Koshi something," Ka said honestly, "but we'll be back."

"Sure you don't want to come?" Tsuko asked hopefully. "I'm sure anywhere has to be better than here," her eyes darted toward the purple-haired man who had a kicking Elijah over his shoulder and was ushering Chris and Billy to their room.

"I… need to talk to Goten," Leeli said with a sigh as Kim struggled out of her arms to follow Trunks and the struggling Elijah.

"Well, if you need us," Tsuko said, throwing her arm around Leeli's shoulders. "We're hanging at a mountain just past the city. I'm pretty sure you can find us."

"Thanks," Leeli said with a nod as Tsuko moved away.

"Remember Leeli," Ka said as she walked out the door. "You are one bad-ass bitch that don't take shit from no one. Don't let this Goten make you feel bad about yourself. He's not worth it."

"And we'll always accept you for who you are," Tsuko smiled as she shut the door, leaving Leeli alone in the hallway.

---

Goten set down in the garden and took a deep breath. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he knew those women were lying about Leeli… weren't they? He shook his head. He could not think things like that, not about Leeli. Closing his eyes he felt for ki's. Trunks was in his attic and it appeared that the kids were in their rooms. Leeli appeared to be in the kitchen. With a deep breath he walked in the back door.

Leeli jumped as he walked in, spilling her water all over the floor. "Welcome home, honey," she said nervously. "How was training?"

"Okay," Goten said softly, "Your…friends," it was hard for him to say that word in conjunction with the women who were telling such lies about Leeli, "came and talked to me."

Leeli went pale. "What did they say?" as she sat down at the kitchen table, Goten taking the seat across from her.

"They said that you wanted to take over the world, and that you liked to hurt people, and destroy things," his voice got soft, "and that you were never more happy than when you were doing things like that."

Leeli's skin looked white.

"But," Goten looked up, his eyes shining hopefully, "I didn't believe them. Just tell me it's not true."

Leeli opened her mouth and sighed, staring down at the ground. It was time to tell the truth.
