1: Air

Red takes his first breath, and his Father holds him close as the medics work to stabilize Delia's dying body.

 

2: Apples

His crimson eyes are lovely, but Lance's favorite part of his child is the apples blooming in his cheeks.

 

3: Beginning

Red's first word is `Fada', and Lance smiles.

 

4: Bugs

Red giggles as he hugs Caterpie close, and Lance knows this birthday present was a good one.

 

5: Coffee

Lance yawns as he sips the steaming black liquid, and Red wrinkles his nose when he tastes it; his Father laughs.

 

6: Dark

In the deep of winter, they sit underneath a tent of blankets, toasting marshmallows over Charmander's tail flame.

 

7: Despair

The first time he breaks something, Red is in tears for days.

 

8: Doors

The doors in their house are always open, so Red spends many afternoons dozing on his Father's bed while Lance types up computer reports.

 

9: Drink

Lance drinks one glass of wine every year, on New Year's Day, and Red doesn't begrudge his Father this.

 

10: Duty

When they move back to Indigo Plateau, Red doesn't mind, because he knows Father has to do his job.

 

11: Earth

Lance pins the man to the ground as Red watches, hidden in Dragonair's coils, and his Father's eyes are a wicked blaze of gold as he stabs daggers through the man's wrists.

 

12: End

“You shouldn't have tried to take him away,” Lance purrs, and the kidnapper groans in pain.

 

13: Fall

Red smiles and kisses his Father as the police drives away with the man, and Lance doesn't care that they've just fallen off the bridge of propriety.

 

14: Fire

Indigo Plateau burns behind them, but they escape on Dragonite into the night sky.

 

15: Flexible

Cosmos is pretty, and the Champion grants them sanctuary, no questions asked.

 

16: Flying

The first time they make love, Red feels as though they are soaring above the clouds.

 

17: Food

Lance makes pancakes, mixing creamy batter together as Red watches with a happy smile, watching the oil sizzle in the frying pan.

 

18: Foot

It's hard re-taking the League challenge, but as he enters the Mercury Gym, he can't contain his excitement.

 

19: Grave

When he sees Pikachu collapse, coughing green blood, he stares in shock as Father rushes forwards, releasing Chansey, but it's too late.

 

20: Green

Pikachu's new home is carpeted with green, soft grass, and he only cries a little as Father holds him tightly after the funeral.

 

21: Head

He's Champion of Cosmos now, as Charlotte places the golden pins in his hair, and Father watches with a proud smile.

 

22: Hollow

Even Father can't bring pokemon back from the dead, and Red feels guilty that his victory came at the price of another's life.

 

23: Honor

Still, he has to try his best for those still living, and now that he's Champion, he can make the rules.

 

24: Hope

That's always one thing he's liked about Cosmos, that the Champion has the power and not some Governing Council like Kanto - so he writes the laws into place.

 

25: Light

No one here knows Lance is his Father, and no one objects when they are married on a bright summer's day.

 

26: Lost

Lance kisses him gently as they lie in bed together on the first night, and Red knows he is lost.

 

27: Metal

The metal of his Solar System badge glows black, next to Father's badges from Kanto and Johto.

 

28: New

Red is a bit nervous about moving into the Champion's residence, because he doesn't want to kick Charlotte out, but she smiles and says she doesn't mind keeping a small suite in the East Wing, so no one has to leave.

 

29: Old

It's nice having her around, she's like an older sister, and Lance is glad someone keeps an eye on Red when he leaves in December.

 

30: Peace

They sit on the front lawn, sipping strawberry lemonade and watching the stars.

 

31: Poison

Lance coats his dragon blades with Arbok venom, and Red watches in fascination.

 

32: Pretty

Red thinks Father looks pretty when he wears silk, especially the black catsuit that clings to him like a second skin.

 

33: Rain

Lance picks Red up at school, holding a bright yellow umbrella.

 

34: Regret

Sometimes, Red regrets never knowing his mother, but mostly it doesn't bother him.

 

35: Roses

Lance grows blue roses in his window box, and Red grins after he reads the language of flowers.

 

36: Secret

At night, Red cuddles up next to his Father, and whispers secrets he has learned during the day at school.

 

37: Snakes

Jenny's Arbok collapses as his Gyarados roars, and Lance smirks at the dumbfounded woman as Red claps.

 

38: Snow

They both fall down the mountain as they attempt to learn how to ski but the snow is soft and giggles are infectious, so no one gets hurt.

 

39: Solid

He feels hardness between his legs as he watches his Father lecture, and wriggles against the desk, trying to hide it.

 

40: Spring

Gyarados and Aerodactyl have a clutch of eggs, and as he and Father take care of the baby pokémon, Red feels happier than he has been in a while.

 

41: Stable

He clings tight to Father as Rapidash takes off, because riding a horse is very different from riding a bird and he doesn't want to fall.

 

42: Strange

Wine makes him looser, and Red is pleasantly surprised to find exactly how athletic they are in bed that night.

 

43: Summer

Lance licks melting strawberry ice cream off Red's fingertips, as Red giggles.

 

44: Taboo

Everything about their love is sick and wrong, but they quit caring long ago.

 

45: Ugly

When the reporter from Kanto comes along, they both notice how pinched and orange her face is.

 

46: War

She threatens to go public with their relationship unless they pay her a million yen, and Red snarls as he reaches for Scyther's poke ball.

 

47: Water

Lance doesn't like a mess, so he takes Red off on a quick flight while Gyarados cleans the house.

 

48: Welcome

When they return home, there is no evidence left.

 

49: Winter

As winter comes, the blizzards howl and they lock the doors against all intruders.

 

50: Wood

There is something decidedly sinful about sleeping in the bed where he was conceived, Red thinks, but it quit bothering him years ago.
