Purple Surprise-Part 3
By: Bulmafox
"Open the door right now!" Piccolo yelled from outside of Bulma's house. It hadn't taken him long to figure out where Vegeta would have run off to, and Piccolo had taken off for Bulma's house, mad as a nest of hornets. "I said open the door!" Piccolo started banging on Bulma's steel-reinforced front door.
Inside the house, Bulma had locked up her doors and retreated to her lab in the basement. All right, stay calm. Maybe if I ignore him long enough, he will go away. Bulma thought to herself, trying to stay calm. Bulma stayed silent in her lab as the shouting and pounding increased, until Piccolo used his trump card.
"You wanna play that way, fine!" Piccolo shouted as he rose into the air and pointed at her house. "I guess you don't really value your life. MA-SEN-KO---"
"Don't shoot me!" Bulma said in a panic as she raced to the door and unlocked it. "All right, fine. You win. Just do whatever you're gonna do so you can get out of here already."
"Gladly." Piccolo flew down and immediately began ransacking Bulma's house.
"What do you think you're doing?! You're wrecking my house! If you ruin any of my equipment, so help me Kami, I'll make you replace every last bit of it!"
Piccolo grabbed Bulma by her shirt collar. "What did I say about that name!? It's forbidden. Forbidden! By the way, where did Vegeta go to?"
"I don't know."
"You better think twice before you lie to me. You're this close" Piccolo put his index finger and thumb together, "To everyone knowing who's carrying Saiyan Prince Jr."
"Maybe it isn't such a bad thing. Go ahead, tell the world. See if I care!"
"Is that what you really want, Bulma? Do you really want Goku and Yamcha to kill Vegeta and all your friends send you to a psychiatric ward for the rest of your childbearing years?"
"They wouldn't do that! Would they?"
"Let's see: Bulma and Vegeta together? Goku and Yamcha would certainly fear for your safety and try to kill Vegeta before he kills you. And Chi Chi would wonder what on Earth possessed you to sleep with the man who tried to murder her husband and son. And let's not forget Krillin, Oolong, and Roshi. They would never let you live it down."
"Go ahead, tell them. I don't care."
"We'll see about that." Piccolo picked up the nearest phone and dialed Chi Chi's number.
Right as Piccolo pushed the seventh digit, Bulma slammed the button on the cradle down. "Fine, I'll tell you where he is, you toad! He's not here."
"Liar. He is too here. Now tell me where he is or I really will call Chi Chi."
"I'm telling you the truth. He really is not here!"
"You really expect me to buy into that lie?"
"You wanna know where Vegeta is? I'll tell you where he is. He's in the back yard."
"If you're lying you're going to get it."
"Yeah, whatever", Bulma sighed as she followed Piccolo to the back yard.
Piccolo examined the circular scorch mark on the grass for a while, the he turned to Bulma and said, "He's in outer space, isn't he?"
"I told you he wasn't here"
"And you're going up into space to get him."
"No I'm not. I'm not doing your dirty work here."
Piccolo walked back into the house and dialed Chi Chi's number. "Yes, Chi Chi? Bulma has something very important she would like to tell you."
"What is it, Piccolo?" Chi Chi asked.
Bulma snatched the phone away from Piccolo. "Uh, what he meant was, he's spending a couple of nights here, but he's too shy to tell you himself."
"What?!!" Piccolo asked in disbelief.
"But why?" Chi Chi asked.
"Because he's tired of eating fish every night."
"But Bulma, Nameks don't eat food-"
"That's what Piccolo told me. He's getting grumpy now, bye!"
"Nice save, Bulma", Piccolo commented, "But you won't be able to worm your way out of every call like that."
"If I build the spaceship, will you leave me alone?"
"I might."
"Fine, let's get started." Bulma and Piccolo walked down to the lab.
"I expect it to be done in two days."
"Two days? I can't do build a spaceship in two days! I'd have to be Albert Einstein himself to pull that one off!"
"Two days. That's all I'm giving you. You will build a Saiyan spacepod; that'll take the least amount of time."
"Uh, but only one person can fit in there."
"I'm sure you and Vegeta wouldn't mind getting cozy in there. It's not like you two have never done it before."
"You know what? The sooner I get this spaceship done, the sooner I can get you off my back, so if you don't mind, I'd like to get started now." She got out her tools and got to work.
Approximately forty-eight hours later, a frazzled Bulma, who had lived on nothing but coffee and power bars, finally finished her creation. As soon as she put the last component into place, she climbed inside the ship and blasted off right in her lab, destroying the roof and whatever rooms lay directly above it.
Bulma finally woke up from a long slumber a week after she blasted off. She casually looked out the window and said, "Nope, he's not here." Not that she was actually looking for Vegeta. Bulma had it all figured out: stay out in space as long as possible, until Piccolo forgot about her. If by some off chance he remembered her and Vegeta, Bulma could always tell him that she spent forever looking for Vegeta, which would explain her long absence.
Bulma had prepared for her long voyage by stashing some food capsules in her pockets and filling the spacepod with fuel until it almost burst. When Piccolo asked her why she needed so much fuel, she lied and told him the pod was a real gas-guzzler and she couldn't make it any more efficient in such a short amount of time. As soon as she had the pod built and fueled up, she blasted off, not caring that the pod destroyed her living room, and jetted out of the solar system as quickly as she possibly could before setting it on auto-pilot and catching up on some much needed sleep.
Bulma got out a snack from one of her food capsules she had been snacking on periodically since she left the planet and settled in for a little meal. After Bulma ate her fill, she dozed off for a little nap, but right at the last minute before she fully closed her eyes, she saw a bright yellow beam of light radiating from a nearby planet. She landed the spacepod on the planet and got out to see what had caused the light. Bulma could not believe her eyes when she finally saw the power source
She saw, standing right in front of her, a short man, about her height, with sparkling green eyes, a blonde gravity defying mane and the biggest widow's peak she had ever seen smiling deviously at her. "You-you're a Super Saiyan, Vegeta", she told the man, "How did you do it?"
"It was easy," Vegeta explained, "All I had to do was get mad enough."
"Liar. You mean you killed yourself all this time in the gravity room for nothing?"
"No, not for nothing. I'm much stronger than Kakarot now."
"All right, let's get back to Earth now." Bulma abandoned her spacepod and she and Vegeta took off in his spaceship.
Vegeta and Bulma hadn't been in space too long when Vegeta asked an important question. "Hey Bulma, why are we going back to that mudball?"
"Because it's our home."
"And who's waiting there?"
Bulma made a flat face. "Oh, I see what you mean. I guess there's no point in going back if our secret's gonna be let out upon arrival, so why don't we stay out a little longer?"
"Exactly. Staying out in space won't hurt us any more than going back. However, we are returning for the tournament so I can show Kakarot who's boss." Vegeta seized the controls and turned the ship around.
"Where are we going?"
"Planet Frieza number 79."
"Not there again! What if we get vaporized? Oh my gosh, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die!" Bulma started hyperventilating.
Vegeta shook Bulma by the shoulders. "Snap out of it, woman! I killed everyone left on it, remember?"
Bulma came back to her senses. "Oh," she said.
As soon as the spaceship landed on Planet Frieza, Bulma and Vegeta set up the ship as their campgrounds in the middle of the woods. There they lived semi-comfortably, with all of their supplies with them--and whatever they did not have, they could certainly get from the forest-until it was time to go back to Earth for the tournament.
Bulma and Vegeta returned to Earth the day before the tournament, and Bulma checked her messages upon arrival. To her amazement, there were 37 messages from Chi Chi, each one sounding more panicked than the last. After the tenth message, she called Chi Chi.
Before the first ring was completed, she heard Chi Chi pick up the phone and say in a panicked voice, "Bulma, is that you? Are you still alive? Oh, where have you been?"
"Whoa, whoa, Chi Chi, one question at a time, please!"
"Okay, where have you been all this time?"
"In space exploring."
"Run that by me again?"
"Uh…I just went out for a little sightseeing and I guess I lost track of time. Vegeta was training as usual, so I had to take him with me-"
"Wait, you said Vegeta went with you? Did he hurt you? Don't worry, I'll be right over!"
"But Chi Chi-" Too late. Chi Chi had hung up.
Almost as soon as Bulma hung the phone up, Chi Chi came barging through the door, dragging poor Gohan behind her. "Where is he? If he laid a finger on you the wrong way, I'll kill him!"
"That's very sweet of you Chi Chi, but he didn't hurt me."
"Are you sure he didn't hurt you?" Chi Chi looked all over Bulma for any sign of a cut or bruise.
"Chi Chi, will you stop that? Vegeta is not going to kill me on a whim!"
Chi Chi suddenly looked at Bulma as if she had grown six heads. "Bulma, are you crazy? Of course he will!"
"No he won't!" Bulma grabbed Vegeta the arm as he walked downstairs. "Vegeta, you won't kill me on a whim, will you?"
"Sure I will," Vegeta said calmly, "That whim just hasn't come up yet." He left for the gravity room.
"See?" Chi Chi said smugly, "I told you so."
"Aw, hush up." Bulma said.
"Hey, you know what?" Chi Chi asked, "I bet you're starving right now. Why don't I cook us a meal and we can rent something totally sappy on pay-per-view?'
"You know what? That does sound good. I'll go see what they have." Bulma picked up a remote and surfed through a pay-per-view menu while Chi Chi departed for the kitchen to make a fabulous meal.
While Chi Chi cooked her fabulous meal, she casually glanced over to the counter and noticed something strange. "Hey Bulma, are you pregnant?" She called into the living room.
Bulma shot straight up. "What? What kind of question is that!?"
"It's a very simple one. Are…you…pregnant?"
"Wh-what? Of course I'm not! Where would you get a stupid idea like that?"
"It's not stupid! And besides, you have a big bottle of prenatal vitamins sitting on the kitchen counter."
"How do you know they're prenatal?"
"Because they're the exact same vitamins I took when I was pregnant with Gohan."
"Oh, isn't it funny? Those are the exact same ones my doctor prescribed for my nutrition deficiency. You know me, stay up `til five a.m., living on nothing but coffee and sweets."
"Bulma, you've got to take better care of your body. What if you want to have a child someday? You can't go wasting your body." Chi Chi lectured.
"I guess you have a point. Hey, what about that movie? It's coming on in five minutes, you know."
"OH, I have to hurry!" Chi Chi finished the meal in four minutes flat and served it just in time for the movie. After everyone ate, Bulma and Chi Chi sat back and watched the rest of the movie while Gohan took a nap on a nearby chair.
After the movie ended, Chi Chi excused herself for a bathroom break and went upstairs. Gohan chose that exact moment to wake up.
Gohan walked right in front of Bulma and asked, "Are you pregnant?"
Bulma shot up and asked, "Gohan, where did you learn that kind of stuff?"
"Come on, Bulma. I'm nine years old. I already know about the birds and the bees? So, are you?"
"What makes you think that?"
"Because you're getting fat."
"Maybe I'm a big couch potato who eats too many sweets."
"No, only your stomach's getting fatter. The rest of you looks fine. Please tell me. I can handle it." Gohan put on the big sad puppy eyes that no one in their right mind could resist.
Bulma looked around to see if anyone was nearby, then she whispered to Gohan, "Yes, I am."
"Yippee! I knew you and Yamcha would make everyone proud one day."
"It isn't Yamcha's," Bulma said nervously.
"So then who is the father?" Gohan put on the puppy dog eyes again.
"Okay, do you promise not to tell anyone?"
"I promise."
Bulma looked around again and said, "Vegeta."
"Whoa, Vegeta? I'm really proud of him. Why, just three years ago, I bet Vegeta wouldn't even look at another woman, much less have a child with her."
"Really?"
"Really. Hey Bulma, you wanna hear something? I think Vegeta had a crush on you on Namek."
"No way!"
"Yes way. Remember when I went to get the dragon ball from that lake? Well on the way back, I saw Vegeta carrying one and I asked him where he got it from, and he said," he put on his best Vegeta voice, "'I got it from that bald headed friend of yours, and that gorgeous girl he was with.'"
Bulma was wide-eyed. "I can't believe he actually said that. I know he wouldn't be caught dead saying it now."
"Well, he did. Anyway, congratulations. I'm sure you and Vegeta will make great parents."
"Aw Gohan, you're just saying that."
"No, I'm not. I really do mean it."
Bulma was moved to tears. She knelt down to Gohan's level and hugged him. "Gohan, I hope my child grows up to be just like you."
"Aw, that's so sweet, Bulma."
Right then, Chi Chi came walking back down the stars. "Aw man, that dinner was a killer-Bulma, what's wrong?"
Bulma stood up and wiped her eyes. "Nothing, wrong, Chi Chi. Gohan's being a very sweet kid, that's all. I told him if I have a child, I want it to grow up to be just like him."
"Yep, my little Gohan's gonna be a heartbreaker when he grows up, that's for sure." She turned to Gohan and dragged him out he door. "Now let's go, Gohan. It's getting near your bedtime."
Bulma turned away and said to herself , "What a nice boy." Suddenly, she bumped into a rock-hard wall. "Vegeta, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be training."
"I came to make sure you didn't blab the news to Kakarot's family. Well, did you?"
"Um, I kinda sorta, you know, told…" Bulma said in a small voice, "Gohan."
"You idiot! Now the rest of the world will know about us!"
"But I made Gohan promise not to tell anyone."
"For someone who invents machines, you have a thick head. You may have sworn Gohan to secrecy, but his mother doesn't count as just `anyone'. I bet he'll go right back around and tell her everything you told him. And you never swore her to secrecy, now did you?"
"Oh my gosh, I have to stop him!" Bulma rushed out the door and drove to the Son house at breakneck speed to stop Gohan from telling his mother about the pregnancy.
When Bulma open Chi Chi's door, she saw an irate Chi Chi standing in the kitchen with her arms crossed. "Uh, hi Chi Chi", Bulma said feebly.
"Hi nothing. You lied to me, Bulma", Chi Chi accused.
"Uh, what about?"
"You're pregnant with Vegeta's child and you lied to me about it. Bulma, I'm your best friend. Why didn't you tell me any of this?"
"Because I thought you were gonna put me in the loony bin."
"What?! Bulma, you're my best friend. I'd never have you put away! I would wonder what on Kami's green Earth possessed you to sleep with that man, but I'd never lock you up. Now let's have some nice, hot tea, and you can tell me everything, right from the beginning."
After the women finished their tea and Bulma came clean about everything, Chi Chi said, "Oh I see, that's why you didn't want to tell anyone. I can see how Yamcha, Krillin and Oolong would react. You know, Yamcha's still sore about the break-up. He hasn't seen another girl since you two ended it. He really wants to mend things between the two of you."
"Whose side are you on, Chi Chi, mine or Yamcha's? I don't want to go back to him."
"All I'm saying is that Yamcha would react badly to any new man in your life, especially Vegeta. Anyway, whatever you do about Vegeta and the kid, Gohan and I support you one hundred percent. Now go home and get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a big day and I don't want you falling out in the middle of all the action."
"Thanks, Chi Chi. Bye now. And tell Gohan I said bye, too." Bulma left and drove home to rest up for the big tournament that would take place the next day.
